This is close to the best team Pakistan has at the moment bar a few squad changes here and there. The problem is that bar Malik and to some extent Imam, the rest of that batting line up is really struggling. But there are no Tendulkars and Kohlis waiting in the wings so you have to back the players you have. The top 3 is still fairly inexperienced. The goal should be to make sure that is your top 3 for the next 5 years. Sarfraz and Malik won't be there in 5 years but maybe Shadab can step up to bat in the top 5.

Malik is worth his spot in the team. No point in changing the captain/keeper before the world cup. Re-evaluate that position after the world cup by all means. There are no Gilchrists and Dhonis in domestic cricket either.

Also the suggestions I'm seeing are ridiculous as well. The cancer that Umar Akmal is. Umair Masood has hardly played any cricket at all. Rohail Nazir is 16. Mohammad Rizwan is the only decent shout but he really really struggled in Australia.

Think that's probably the best we can field for now. Talat allows us to play a proper batsman at 7 and gives us a fifth bowling option. Don't think we have the batting strength atm to select a bowling allrounder or a hitter down the order, need someone who can build an innings too.

Babar as opener gives us right-left combination again, and Babar can focus on accumulating less on upping the ante, Fakhar can be hidden a bit from the new ball by playing lower down (could even drop him to 4 and switch with Haris). Haris is in simply as I think he's one of the best players of pace in the team.

Usman isn't needed in the UAE and unless we can find an explosive lower-order batsman, Akmal should be brought back.

Sarfaraz should just be used as a floating batsman. Bring him on if we lose a couple of early wickets and the opposition's spinners are bowling, otherwise just let the guys who can slog better bat above him.

Problem with Hafeez is that he will play in the top 4 and not at 6, and his bowling in recent times has lost its potency. Hussain Talat may be a better option at 6.

I can't understand the hate for Shinwari on this forum. Among the bowlers, Amir's the only one who needs to go. We need a proper spinner for Nawaz and a wicketkeeper batsman to replace Sarfaraz. Those are the only changes we can/should make at the moment.

I agree that M. Musa should be under the selector's radar but now is not the time to introduce him. He's a good skiddy bowler. As for Rizwan, he's as mediocre as they come. As someone else said, Umair Masood or even Rohail Nazir would be better.

Outside UAE, Hafeez can sit out for Asif Ali, and outside Asia, Zafar Gohar can sit out for Faheem Ashraf.

We thought the same way in 2016. I wouldn't get too down-the real work has to be done at the lower levels of the game and the academies. I believe we have the right people in place there, but it will take 5-7 years to see the results of their work.

Emotions were running high after the bad performances yesterday and against India.

I've realized that dropping Sarfaraz right now would be a mistake.He's been rubbish with the bat,but dropping him right now would mean that whoever is the new captain will have to face New Zealand,South Africa,Australia and England(a total of around 20 ODIs),apart from the World Cup.

Sarfaraz will,and should,continue as captain until the World Cup.
