This will make for a mouth watering experience. Who do guys will win if this match happens this year?

Looking at the success and popularity of franchise leagues now, I think Champions League can be a blockbuster event which unfortunately no one is exploring. When it was implemented last time, T20 leagues were still growing but now it has the potential to be the best cricket tournament along with world cup if implemented correctly.

I think its an opportunity for other cricket boards (cough..read PCB) to pick up this project. It has loads of money making potential.

Just checked the Lahore bowling attack and there is some serious quality there. Shaheen, Rauf, Rashid Khan..... probably the strongest bowling attack in all franchise cricket.

But batting looks quite weak with only Fakhar and Billings being the notable names. So I think it will be a close low scoring affair with slight edge to LQ. :)

Champions league only works if it's a proper home & away format and not if the entire tournament is held in one country. Noone will care to attend or watch the neutral games or the ones that do not involve any IPL or PSL side. Because let's be honest here...only Indians and Pakistanis would watch the tournament as franchise cricket isn't that big anywhere else for the fans to tune in.

It was an absolute borefest to watch Cape Cobras take on the Otago Volts in Bangalore with empty seats everywhere back when the tournament was on..

If you play at Chepauk CSK will be heavy favorites. Having said that CSK was definitely not the best side on paper considering a lot of players are either retired or completely raw. Just that the way they build their side enables them to face any kind of scenarios. GT is a much stronger side than CSK. Harder to beat side.

My idea of Champions league is - it should be home & away and also it should not be a tournament at a stretch. Meaning it should not have a separate window in international calendar. It can be spread across various months and can be played when international calendar/IPL window is free. It will be very similar to Champions league football where they play 1 leg and then the next leg is a month later.

All I am saying is, it has a lots of potential.

I don’t watch the IPL but I’d imagine having dhoni as captain would be a significant advantage?

Would be some match up though!

CSK is not the best team. They just punched way above their level to win it.

I feel MI were the best team followed by RCB, GT and CSK in that order.

MI this current season also punched above their weight. Their bowling was nonexistent. Yeah with Bumrah and Archer fit they probably have a better all-round side. GT were the best all-round side of the tournament, RCB wasn't which reflected in the fact that they did not make it to the play-off's. RCB is top 3 or nothing. MI was a batting heavy side who lost because their bowling did not fire often. CSK for all the flaws had a very good balance even though with a less experienced bowling line up. RR actually were a very good side who lost their way. GT & RR were the two most balanced teams in this year's IPL.

Manufacturing a diehard following doesn't quite work in cricket yet. Nobody really cares that much about who wins out of Mumbai Mountains or Cape Town Tigers. Most viewers are still just interested in seeing entertaining cricket played by big stars and will watch any team or league that provides that.

Fans will struggle to get hyped for a game once per month based on a league which drags on potentially for a full year.

Player availability across a year would be an issue as well as mercenaries having to somehow choose between sides.

You could argue that the World t20 is already a form of champions league cricket. Having it every 2 years will provide us enough satisfaction for high quality cricket, big followings and bragging rights.

MI is crap without Pollard. Once he was gone they ain't winning anything. Guys like Malinga/Pollard pulled off some incredible wins for them. I don't expect them to win many more like they did in their heydays unless they find some new foreign talents.

Rajasthan Royals is a very good side. But oversmart sangakkara came up with absolutely insane strategies and botched the chances. Jaiswal/ Buttler/Samson/Ashwin/Chahal/Boult

This would be a logistical nightmare.

Imagine the entire Mumbai Indians squad travelling all the way to Jamaica to play one single game and then returning back one day later. It just doesn't/wouldn't work.

Chennai has one of the worst bowling attacks ever. This dehspande guy always makes a 50 with bowl.
That being said i dont this CSK were the team to beat this tournament.

CSK team looks very poor when it comes to bowling and Lahore may have assembled the GOAT franchise bowling line up.

It will be a very good match.

I think Multan and Lahore could go toe toe with any franchise team from around the world.

What would the actual strongest XIs be?

Lahore Qalandars:

Fakhar Zaman
Mirza Baig
Abdullah Shafique
Sam Billings (Wk)
Hussain Talat
Sikandar Raza
David Wiese
Rashid Khan
Shaheen Afridi(C)

Chennai Super Kings:

Ruturaj Gawkwad
Devon Conway
Ben Stokes
Ajinkya Rahane
Ambati Rayudu
Moeen Ali
MS Dhoni (C)(Wk)
Ravindra Jadeja
Deepak Chahar
Maheesh Theekshana
Tushar Deshpande

Fakhar > Gaikwad
Baig < Conway
Abdullah < Stokes
Billings > Rahane
Talat < Rayudu
Raza < Moeen
Wiese > Dhoni
Rashid > Jadeja
Shaheen > Chahar
Rauf > Theekshana

Rahane vs pace strike rate 232. Highest this season for any batsman. He is a transformed Rahane. Never had a strike rate over 140 in 15 IPL seasons. This season his SR is 172. One of the main reason CSK won the IPL. How is anybody better than Jadeja? Besides Pathirana would feature in place of Deshpande.

Very practical view. The soccer Champions league is probably working because comparatively have very less travel time between countries within Europe

I would play Harry Brook over billings as he is way better. But would need to find local keeper then instead of Mirza Baig. Can't recall who else they had for keeping.

Lahore easily beats Chennai.

Lahore has a bowling line up that plays international cricket. Chenai has weak Indian batters.

Lahore would lose to RCB due to Kohli able to play pacers but not the seam and swing bowlers that Lahore doesnt have

You need to account for minus 2 with Hussain Talat in the LQ XI

And how in this God’s world is Wiese > Dhoni

Jadeja = Rashid in my view

Lol this is such a flawed way of comparing sides.

I can easily swap Conway and Gaikwad and say Conway > Fakhar and Gaikwad > Baig. Same with Theekshana > Zaman while swapping the last two CSK bowlers. And voila...CSK are in the lead.

Better to compare the overall batting and bowling units with each other rather than this flawed comparison by randomly mapping the players.

Batting - CSK >> LQ

Bowling - LQ >> CSK

Strategy/Tactics/Management - CSK >> LQ

If we do this man to man comparison lot of teams in the IPL were superior to CSK formwise. But what happened in the end? Been the case since first edition of IPL. Dhoni has the knack of getting the best out of ordinary team. Nobody can match that. After a long time i see that trait in Pandya.
