Even as President Donald Trump issued a warning Monday to Iran against threatening the United States, and Secretary of State Mike Pompeo tore into the Iranian leadership during a speech Sunday, it looks like the harsh rhetoric from the U.S., along with the renewal of sanctions against the oil-rich country, would not hurt Iran's economy too much. Two of the world's largest consumers of — China and India — are increasing their import of Iranian crude, the mainstay of the Middle Eastern country's economy.


Between April and June, India imported 5.67 million tons of Iranian crude, or 457,000 barrels per day, a figure that moved Iran above Saudi Arabia in Indian crude imports (Iraq is India's biggest supplier of oil) for the quarter, according to data made public Monday by India's oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

It’s not that simple.Even now Indian insurance companies stopped insuring the transportation and Iran itself covering it.Once the final step implemented then it will be difficult for finance institutes as they will get sanctioned by US.If European banks continue to transact with Iran then may be its possible to continue

No we didnot. We kept buying oil and half the money was paid in rupees. The other half was kept pendingband paid when sanctions were lifted.

This is one thing that all Indian governments have been good at - they've balanced relationships between various powers and countries very well. Whether that's America and Russia, Saudi/the Gulf and Iran, Israel and the Palestinians etc etc. I hope it can carry on. Cozying up to one side over the other is a diplomatic disaster.

Are they wrong? Iran hasn't invaded another country for 200 years ,check how many the US has half this time. Iran's democratcillay elected leader was over thrown and a US puppet was installed. US has been aggressive towards Iran for decades now but unlike other nations they are not scared. It is Israel which is scared of Iran because of it's missile technology and also because it helps arguably the strongest resistance movement on the planet, Hezboallah. Israel and America have been itching to attack Iran for a long time now but know it would be a stupid move.

One simple reason. It wants to switch to the Euro to sell it's oil (has been trying on and off for a long time actually, thus the sanctions under the guise of nuclear threat etc before), the latest sanctions are also coming because it has recently again switched to the Euro.

It could start a domino effect which could lead other countries to follow suit which could destabilize or even devastate the dollar and the US economy.
