The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had to pay heavy price for moving high court for due share in China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects for the province as the Chinese embassy has refused to issue visas to KP ministers and bureaucrats.

Sources in KP bureaucracy told Khyber News that a delegation comprised of KP ministers and bureaucrats wanted to visit China to study the mass transit transport system and then start the same system in Peshawar. However, the sources said, the Chinese embassy has rejected their applications for visas.
The Sources said that the KP government’s reservations over CPEC Western Route and challenging the matter in Peshawar High Court (PHC) was the main cause of visas refusal.

Earlier on November, Speaker Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly submitted a writ petition at the Peshawar High Court (PHC) over the western route of the China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
Asad Qaisar named the federal government, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chairman National Highway Authority (NHA) in the petition questioning whether the western route of the CPEC is part of the project or not.
Qaisar said he, his party nor his government was against the CPEC.
In fact, he said, the provincial government was willing to see the project achieve great success in the future.
But, Qaisar maintained that all provinces must be benefitted from the grand Pak-China project equally.
On the other hand, the Federal Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal felt remorse after the KP government approached the court on the CPEC.
However, he hoped that Islamabad would be able to resolve the issue after negotiation with the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) led provincial government.
Earlier, the federal minister had dispelled an impression that the province of KP was being neglected in the CPEC, adding that the project would benefit the less developed and previously neglected areas of the country.
In a statement, he had stated worriedly that if the KP govt took a legal turn, it would create problems for the province only in terms of attracting foreign investment.
Iqbal had said the construction work on the western route of the corridor was underway in full swing and that the Gwadar-Quetta road would be soon completed before the set time.

Seems like CPEC is not China - Pakistan agreement but China - Punjab agreement.

Also people go and google pictures of CPEC Western route and CPEC Eastern route.

The Eastern route seems like a modern six lane highway of which even developed countries would be proud. The Western route is just two lane normal road.

Again further driving home the point that if you are not Punjab you do not matter.

China Punjab Economic corridor

Well served. I've noticed many hardcore Afghan and Baloch nationalists whine on twitter about CPEC without any substance, this what they get for trying to work on Afghanistan's agenda. That said, PTI is not anti-Pakistan unlike the former rulers of KP, but it serves of them well for trying to politicize this project by playing the regionalism card.

Yes asking for your rights is regionalism card?

Why was the route changed so that it passes through Punjab? Why are the roads being built in Punjab so much superior than those being built in other parts of Pakistan.

Using that kind of racist language works in favor of Pakistan's enemies, you could articulate that better without stooping down to that level.

The only thing that works in enemies favour is diverting all funds and attention towards one province. Obviously they would concentrate only on one province, they hardly win a seat from anywhere else.

Only in Pakistan you can win seats from one federating unit and rule over the entire country.

That's only partly true but I understand hyperbole helps you get attention.

Pervez Khattak didn't bother to attend majority of these CPEC meetings and then later on cried that KPK has been discriminated against.

This is the result of their self-inflicted alienation.

I hope Imran does a dharna against the Chinese Embassy now along with the Junoonis.

Are you even for real?

He stopped attending the meetings when it because increasingly clear that the agreement is just between China and Punjab.

All Chief Ministers apart from chotay Sharif should have stopped attending those futile meetings.

So in a 'democratic' country you are not even allowed to demand your rights?

As incompetent as Pervez Khattak may be, this is absolutely not true. Whatever their other faults, and there are many, the KPK government has raised a lot of hue and cry, mostly through legal channels, over Punjab Sharif and his brother essentially committing daylight robbery and redrawing the entire route map of CPEC to benefit their kingdom at the expense of KPK and Balochistan(bar a small strip of highway from Karachi to Gwadar). This is simply a case of a party that controls the federal government and one province using their power to redirect a potential windfall from one province to theirs. An equivalent scenario would be a federal government where ANP has absolute majority using their influence to redirect all development projects to KPK.

Look I don't deny that the Sharif brothers always have had a very strong bias for Punjab. However, refusing to attend CPEC meetings is the reason why they have been refused visas.

This self-alienation does not help. PTI has always taken the wrong route to stage its protests and voice its concerns. Instead of doing so in the parliament and establish their presence, they end up boycotting it and resort to dharnas on the streets and boycotting CPEC meetings.

Pervez Khattak doesn't meet state guests. Last week, leadership all provinces including Kashmir were present to meet Erdogan except Pervez Khattak.

In 2014, Nawaz Sharif took all CMs with him to China but only Pervez Khattak refused to go. Yet he has the audacity to question why CM Punjab accompanies the PM on foreign tours and receive state guests.

He's painting a negative picture of KPK. This self-alienation will not do him any favors.

Given that the Chinese are funding these projects via heavily-subsidised soft loans you can't blame them for concentrating on the routes which will maximise their profits and get the projects completed in the quickest time.

So in a 'democratic' country you are not even allowed to demand your rights?

You are, but you need to channelize your concerns in the right manner. Refusing to attend CPEC meetings, refusing to accompany the PM on a foreign tour and refusing to receive state guests is not the right way of protesting/demanding rights.

It will not help.

The Chinese wanted the route to go directly north from Gwadar, through KPK and enter China. Going through Punjab was the demand of the Punjab Muslim League - Nawaz.

You build your roads and railways such that they pass as close as possible to the major population and industrial centres of the country.
The Chinese might be using this route, but the total Chinese through traffic will still be a small percentage of the overall volume of traffic using this transport system.

The rail and road infrastructure are meant to move people and goods from point A to point B, and all the points in between. Furthermore, you build it according to the max volume of traffic that is likely to be using it (allowing for growth over a reasonable time frame). You don't build 6 lane highways through sparsely populated regions if only a fraction of it's capacity is ever likely to be used.

By all means oppose PTI, I probably do so more than you, but do it for the right reasons at least and don't let your opposition to them blind you to the facts.

Unfortunately that happens to be the least priority for atleast three provincial governments.

China is defn a Dragon and is unapologetic about its attitude remarkable.

The problem started during the time when Chinese premier supposed to visit Islamabad but the dates had been changed multiple times due to Imran khan's dharna. So now Chinese ego 1 vs Pti kpk"s attitude 0

Sorry guys the Chinese ambassador has clarified that this is false news since all Pakistani ministers/bureaucrats have blue passport and do not need visas for China.

See twitter account of Muhammad Lijian Zhao who happens to post on behalf of the Chinese ambassador.

It sure did help to identify such "Pakistanis" who do not want to see parts of Pakistan to progress because they are ruled by a rival party.

Bhai sab Badshah Salamat ki gulaami shoro kardian, tab ja ke humein Pakistani mano gaye?
