Christchurch attacks: NZ suspect ordered to undergo mental health tests

The man accused of killing 50 people in last month's attacks on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand, has been ordered to undergo mental health tests.

He would be seen by experts to decide if he was fit to stand trial or insane, said high court judge Cameron Mander.

The suspect faces 50 murder charges and 39 attempted murder charges.

Australian Brenton Tarrant, 28, appeared in the courtroom - packed with relatives of some of the victims - via video link from prison.

He was not required to enter a plea.

It is the deadliest mass shooting attack New Zealand has ever seen.

Well it was only a matter of time. If an attacker is white, he must be mentality ill, any other colour, a terrorist. Why no such tests for non-white attackers?

Laughing at those who ridiculed users for stating the media should describe the attacks as an act of terror.

Not sure if this is a serious question or not but speak to anyone involved in the judicial system of a developed nation and they will tell you that anyone accused of a crime has the right to be medically assessed to see if they are fit to stand trial or not. If a lawyer didn't ask for this they wouldn't be doing their job properly.

It is a serious question. Law of a developed nation is one thing, agenda is another.

I am happy to be proved wrong. Can you cite and report/article stating a non-white terrorist was given the opportunity to take such a test, and the ensuing results? Time frame last 10 years.

How is it this guy who systematically planned, and filmed, this attack is possibly mentality deranged?

In my opinion non-whites are tried by the media before they get to court, where as white suspects are given the opportunity to massage their motive.

Well the media did start off by calling him a "sweet angelic boy".... so its hardly surprising that every effort will be made to give him relief just because he is white.
