New Zealand tour of Bangladesh to play 2 Tests (2023)

Day 2 cannot be started at all as the rain is spoiling the party for Bangladesh bowlers. They were on top yesterday on Day 1.
NZ yet to start their innings at 55/5.

The first session has been washed out due to rain.

BAN 172
NZ 55/5 (12.4) CRR: 4.34
Day 2: Lunch Break - New Zealand trail by 117 runs

Today's play might be called off as rain is not stopping. The ground will be wet like a puddle and will take some effort to get it ready for today's play.

I saw the full highlights of the Sylhet Test last night. What a beautiful little ground. Makes a refreshing change from the typical desi concrete jungles.

Play on Day 3 cannot start due to Wet Outfield. Bangladeshi bowlers will be bitting their nails off as they were dominating the opposition and could have produced favorable results in this test as well.

This test is going more towards a draw now.

4 sessions have been lost in this test match as Lunch has been taken on day 3 of the test match. Pitch inspection due soon

The players have returned to the field, with New Zealand’s batters, Phillips and Mitchell, poised and ready. The pitch has been under covers for quite some time, and it’s intriguing to ponder how it will behave now.

As day 3 session 2 begins after the rain spoiled the 1st session today, Bangladesh continues where they left as Nayeem Hasan picked up 2 wickets. NZ is 7 down ATM for 128.

Glenn Philips destroying Bangladesh. BD could not win test series against ZIM, SL and WI even at home. Now losing a great opportunity to whitewash NZ at home.

No point playing Test cricket at all if they can't even win this particular series.

New Zealand has a 1-run lead as Glenn Phillips took his team out of danger single-handedly.
NZ score is 173/8 now.

Shoriful Islam gets the wicket of Glenn Phillips for 87, while Taijul Islam removed Southee as NZ is all out for 180. Lead of 8 runs for the KIWIS. Good fight back from Glenn. At one time things were not looking good for NZ at 55/5 but Glenn changed the game on his own.

These are pretty tough conditions for batting, alot of variable bounce. Southee should get Jamieson on soon, he could be lethal

The players have gone off the field due to bad light. Five boundaries and two wickets in this 8-over phase after Tea. Bangladesh are 30/2.

Play has been called off on Day-3

Bangladesh will begin day four at 38-2 in their second innings, having given up an eight-run lead.

The second test between the Black Caps and Bangladesh was delicately poised on a third day shortened by rain in the morning and bad light in the afternoon.

When play began at 12pm local time after a lengthy delay due to a wet outfield at Sher-E-Bangla National Stadium, Glenn Phillips led a counter-attack which ultimately secured New Zealand an eight-run first-innings lead.

By the time the light had faded too far less than three hours later, they had taken two Bangladesh wickets while conceding 38 runs, which left them trailing by 30 heading into day four on Saturday.

Keeping Bangladesh’s lead under 200 – and ideally under 150 – will be crucial on day four if the Black Caps are to have a shot at squaring the two-match series.

Phillips was the penultimate New Zealand batter dismissed, after he made 87 off 72 balls to help his side get their noses in front, hitting nine fours and four sixes in an innings far above the other 24 completed so far in this match.

After leaving the field at the end of day one, Phillips and Daryl Mitchell had four sessions indoors to decide on their approach once the conditions improved and allowed them to resume, with day two washed out entirely.

They chose to go on the attack, putting together a partnership of 49 off 60 balls for the sixth wicket, having come together at 46-5 on the first afternoon.

Mitchell fell for 18 off 39 to an excellent diving catch by Mehidy Hasan Miraz down the ground and Mitchell Santner fell soon after, caught at first slip by Najmul Hossain Shanto. Nayeem Hasan was the bowler for both dismissals.

Phillips had already begun the day brightly but truly took charge from there, sharing in a partnership of 55 off 53 for the eighth wicket with Kyle Jamieson, who contributed 20 off 28 before he was caught by Shahadat Hossain at first slip off the bowling of seamer Shoriful Islam.

Shoriful also accounted for Phillips, caught behind by Nurul Hasan, while Tim Southee was caught by Mehidy for 14 off 15 while trying to hit Taijul Islam down the ground.

Ajaz Patel opened the bowling for the Black Caps and struck in his first over, with Daryl Mitchell taking a one-handed catch at the second attempt to remove Mahmudul Hasan Joy for two.

Southee then had his fellow captain Shanto caught by Kane Williamson at mid-on for 15 off 24, with the call that the light had deteriorated too much coming just one delivery later.

BD need to bat out the entire 4th day and give NZ a target of 300 on Day 5. That should be enough to secure a series win.

BD just need a draw to secure a series win. Win would be a bonus.

Bangladesh is not going to score more than 170 forget about 300. If rain/ bad light stay away then nz is going to win this test match

Are you saying that based on performance in 1st innings? Even NZ scored only 180.

This is BD's home turf (Mirpur). I say 250-300 is quite possible if they apply themselves.

50 is up for BD.

Lead is worth 42 runs.

Pitch seems to be assisting bowlers. 200+ target should be tricky.

Southee is bowling like a right-arm medium bowler. 125 -126 kph from him

Southee is trundling at the moment. He knows the pitch is not good enough for fast bowlers so he is not trying to bowl any faster than 125 KPH.

BD - 72/3 (16 overs).

Leading by 66 runs.

Need to set a target of 250 minimum. Pitch is assisting spinners. Batting on Day 5 should be difficult.

ICC should take action against this pitch too. Too much spin-friendly and nothing to offer for batters and pace bowlers. Not good

This is classic test match contest , shame it does not gets limelight now

Agree.

Pitch needs to be more sporting. Both green top and dustbowl pitches should be discouraged.

4th one down. Again it was a spinner. Mushfiqur is one for 9. Bangladesh is 82/4.
LOL at this pitch.

Here you go. Another one falls down against a spinner. LOL.. BD 5 down

If BD manages to get a lead of something around 200 from here, which seems a bit unlikely atm, they can win this one.

BD need to stop playing in Mirpur if they ever want to improve and compete in the bigger stages. This toxic culture of wanting to give players flats, cars, etc after one measly win need to stop too.

Also, how convenient of BD management to setup a series right after taking L's from Netherlands in the WC.
I would suggest to play test on this type of pitch and ODI and T20 on the opposite type.

Can't believe they are not playing Ravindra who plays spin well. He and Ajaz batted for 10 overs for last wicket and saved a test in India against Ashwin/Jadeja/Axar.

This has been a joke of pitch now. another wicket for a spinner. ICC sleeping?

BD IS LOOSING IT FROM HERE.... GOOD FOR NOTHING NURUL AND DIPU SHOULD BE OUT OF THE TEAM

BD will be bundled out soon. 100 run lead is looking far far away now.

BD pitches have bite for 30 to 35 overs. After that ball comes on very slowly and you can play relatively easily. Despite playing for so long they still find themselves in this situation.

That is not true. Mirpur pitch is always tough on Day 4 and Day 5. Aussies and England lost Tests here before. Even India barely won here (won by 3 wickets last time).

This is a dustbowl pitch. NZ scored 180 also.

BD - 172-all out (1st innings).
NZ - 180-all out (2nd innings).
BD - 144-all out (3rd innings).

NZ need 137 to win.

Lead of just 136 but this pitch has snake spin in it. Kiwis are gonna have hard time chasing it/
