There used to be a time when I'd have french vanilla/double double four times a day! I was consuming in too much caffeine so had to cut down on that especially after I started paying attention to my fitness.

Why was it affecting your fitness?

I stopped drinking coffee a month ago and probably one of the best decision I've made in my life. I don't feel tired or lazy by evening like I used to.

Coffee is an overrated beverage, but Starbucks, Tim Hortons, Costa, Gloria Jeans etc. are even more overrated.

Never understood what the fuss is. I personally find McDonald's coffee better than all of this crap.

However, as I said, coffee is overrated anyway. Give me a good cup of tea any day.

If you like Coffee you should try make one from an AeroPress, those things make amazing coffees.

I bet you have never had Tim Hortons in Canada. But yes, Starbucks is massively overrated.

Because the amount of sugar was crazy and I was getting XL sizes. :))

I still have the addiction but only get coffee twice a day.

Lol ok ,so there is no issues as such when caffeine without sugar or cream on fitness.

Haven't been to Canada, but why should Tim Hortons be different there? Yes it is Canadian, but it also multinational. It should maintain its standard and quality across different countries.

you'' grow to appreciate it as you spend more time in US

because the tea you get there anyways is third rate so better switch to coffee soon

The drink that I hate with passion is hot chocolate. It reminds me of my childhood when my mother used to force me to drink Milo/Ovaltine/Nesquick etc., was a complete nightmare.

Also, the fact that I'm not a chocolate person doesn't help either.

I wasn't a coffee drinker but now I have it because it keeps me awake and jump starts my morning.

I drink one before I hit the road after a meal at someone's house. I have one when I go to work courtesy of Wait Rose.

I also have bought a Nespresso Machine this year for the missus and have a few from her.

Ovaltine was more malt than chocolate. I'm not sure if it even had any chocolate at all.

Did you ever have Horlicks? I for one remember Ovaltine and Horlicks with great fondness.

I was never really a chai or coffee person in my teens or early 20s, but ever since I started working I would have a coffee after getting to work and sort of became a habit. When I first started drinking it I would have one cup on weekday mornings and not on weekends. However, what I noticed was I was getting a splitting headache by the afternoons on weekends even if I had slept like a baby.

I was super tensed and thought I might have gotten a brain tumour and went to a doctor after the headaches recurred every week. The doctor didn't take long to figure out that I was suffering from caffeine withdrawal on weekends which is causing the migraines.

Now I drink a coffee everyday not because I want to but because I have to.

Yeah it was malt, but it didn't make much of a difference in hindsight because it tasted just like Milo.

Had Horlicks once, thought it was too heavy but certainly tasted better than the said drinks.

I love coffee but I don't actually drink it that much, only really have it occasionally at home but more frequently if I'm out. Costa, Starbucks and Caffè Nero are really the only options where I live so I guess I'll have to stick with them even though they're apparently "overrated".

Also Mamoon, surprised you actually like McDonalds Coffee, everything from there is disgusting in the UK.

As a child, I used to take half a spoonful of Ovaltine and half a spoonful of Horlicks, and eat them. They went great together.

I used to hate milk as a kid so my mother used to mix it with either milo or ovaltine and give it to me. I swear it was a real struggle for everyone to get me to finish the glass of milk I had to drink every day. It's really ironic now that I look back because I can't go without half a litre of milk a day now straight from the box. Tastes good + proteins

Milo was way superior to ovaltine. I used to love eating it with a spoon straight out of the jar.

Incidentally, when I started strength training, I read several articles about how progressive loads (5lb/2.5kg increments) help build strength, and each one referenced Milo of Croton, a famed wrestler in ancient Greece.

The story goes that Milo's cow had a calf. He started carrying the calf around with him. As the calf grew, so did Milo's strength. The story is probably apocryphal, because in a few weeks the calf was probably too heavy for even the strongest human, but its a nice story.

Anyhow, that's when I realized that the drink Milo was probably named after Milo of Croton. All those years of chugging down the drink and no clue of why it was named so. Ignorance, the bane of my existence...

Haven't had McDonald's in the UK for years now, but the KFC there is quite bad.

I heard about Milo of Croton when I was in 5th grade, and the first thing that came to my mind was that it the dreaded Milo drink must be in honor of his memory. For some odd reason, I asked my English teacher the next day and she made me stand on my chair for about 5 minutes for asking an irrelevant question.

It could've been worse. She could've administered the old-school murgha punishment. At least you can say that for those five minutes, you towered over the rest of the class.

I used to be made to stand outside the classroom. You could say I was an outstanding student.

Did any of your teachers hit you on the knuckles with a steel 'foota'? That was nasty. Other than having your parents involved, no punishment was worse.

Yes. In my day, the "foot" or "futta" was wooden, but with a blade on one edge, purportedly for cutting paper. The teachers would pull the blade out a bit for maximum effect, and then go to work.

Assuming the "chair" posture was brutal too. These days I do it to develop my core muscles. Back then it was a torture technique.

Agreed, not sure if it's in Pakistan, but Pepe's is an excellent replacement, only problems is that they don't do all the sweet stuff that KFC and McDonald's do. They have amazing chicken burgers and the fries are pretty good too. When I went to Pakistan I liked the KFC burgers but the wraps could be better.

Coffee is the best thing ever. I drink it all the time. I hate tea. It's disgusting but coffee is just yummy. I'm the only one in my family that likes coffee. Everyone else hates it. I can't get enough of coffee.

Personally nothing like Desi style Chai...Just take a big thermos filled with chai in the morning...have some in the morning and some in the afternoon.

Feel like a Indian sarkaari babu carrying it around but who cares..anything for a good cup of desi chai

I have always liked coffee but only became a big addict recently. I started a company 4 months back and as I have been working on keeping costs at a complete minimum I started working from a coffee shop in the mall close by - Cafe Nero. It has the best cafe latte in my opinion. The thing I love most about coffee shops is how they are associated with social gatherings, business meetings etc. I love working from a coffee shop I must admit. I have made plenty of contacts through this as well. That is where I feel tea shops have lagged behind. They have failed to brand tea properly. Even when u casually ask a girl out for the first time u will say " Let's go for a cup of coffee". Even My favorite TV show of all time friends is centered around a coffee shop. That being said I also love chai. Usually I maintain 3 cups of tea, 2 coffees per day.

I prefer Cafe Nero, as the quality is good and I also get a free one courtesy of O2 every Tuesday. You can get a free coffe after 9 cups.

Costas coffee is great too but I stopped using them as a lot of the stores I've been too , their staff are ill mannered.

Waitrose coffee is decent at my branch near work and I get a free coffee everyday with their loyalty scheme. Other branches aren't as good and coffee can taste bitter.

Greggs coffee is just ok. Their £2 deal with any doughnut is great value. I have them on weekends locally.

McDonald's in the U.K. is like drinking flavoured water. I read that there are also hygiene issues. There coffe loyalty scheme is great with a free coffee after 6 cups.

So hard to cross 2 pm without one nowadats, even if i can physically, mentally im not 100% at all. I do drink 2 green tea which at best is detoxifier.

Hate coffee and tea by the core of my heart! Milk is much much better especially with bourn vita or complan in it!

Horlicks was ok at best. Used to have their banana thing

lol is this for real?

so you started coffee for no particular reason other than just a morning activity of sorts

Yeah it was hard to get up at 6:30 even if I had slept on time, so to do away with the neend I started drinking coffee and then it became a habit

I tried maltova, milo, boost, complan, bournvita all those were okish with boost beig the best, have always hated horlyics.

I've weaned off my coffee dependency, I now only drink coffee twice or thrice a week and hopefully will cut it down to once a week. I feel more energetic without coffee.

At least two cups for me. I like a nice latte or cappuccino but I agree that Starbucks is at the lower end of what a real coffee should taste like. If you’ve ever been to South America, particularly Colombia the taste of the beans is night and day.

Now here I disagree - I was a late bloomer in caffeine as a morning pick me up and I was in a similar boat as you some years back but there is a world of difference between mainstream/heavily commercialised coffee and proper artisan coffee.

And if you take the time to invest in a proper bean to cup machine and take advantage of some incredible coffee subscriptions (whose mainstay is sourcing the best beans globally) - you will be amazed at the difference. If you have no inclination for that, there are many gem establishments - Black sheep coffee, Django coffee (only shop in London is around shepherds market in Mayfair) etc.

Don’t get me wrong, a good tea when brewed properly (which 99% of people don’t know and end up charring the tea leafs ) is amazing but so too is a proper coffee - Starbucks etc is the Tesco Value of coffee.

They opened a Gloria Jeans locally in the UK and had Lamborghinis come in for PR with Gloria Jeans smeared all over it. Looked quite tacky IMO.

I have heard they have halal options.

Dayyyaam - Just received my new beans from Caravan Roasters, The Xmas Bru - ripped it open and threw straight in the new grinder, set to medium to coarse, the perfect grind for the beast 'The Chemex', the most perfect brew ever.

I never had coffee before but I kinda wanna try it now. I’m just really confused how to order it.

Disgusting; tastes like burnt tobacco.

the first time i was offered coffe in university, I drink half the cup and threw it in the bin, only reason i drink it is to stay awake. no idea how anyone can even think of liking the taste of this bitter abomination

You guys don't know what coffee is until you have tried it from Australia.

Trust me on this, especially you Americans (filthiest coffee I have ever tried).

Special shout out to Vietnam, they come in 2nd after Australia.

Just go to literally any supermarket, store, restaurant, kiosk etc near you.

Coffee is an acquired taste and addiction, I personally hate it, unless its a cappuccino or latte machiato etc with lots of milk and sugar. The Mrs and most people I know can't have enough of the black version, Cafe Crema is most popular with Espresso etc if you want a more concentrated shot. Hell, I got the Mrs a 1400€ coffee machine for her birthday which she loves more than me and maybe even our daughter.

My advice is to go to a nearby coffee place or a couple and see if its something you like. Even if you order it there will be a hundred different brands which are better, better methods to make it, etc and you don't want to waste good money on high quality brands and appliances.

Have to give it to you guys. Your coffee is indeed the best.

Was in aus for work for 2 weeks when I tried your coffee. Back in Europe, I have stopped going to any of this Starbucks nonsense. Just look for an Aussie style cafe now.

Im glad you got to experience it :). I try and tell everyone, not in some patriotic kind of way, but because its just so much better then most other coffee.

There are a lot of great coffee shops in America not that starbucks cr*p, this is a huge country and there's certainly a lot more variety than in Australia. This "aussie style" coffee is actually coffee introduced by italian immigrants and there's a far larger italian diaspora here than in Australia so you can certainly find italian coffee over here among many other varieties. You need to travel most of America and check regular brick and mortar coffee shops not just the big chains.

Thats right it was introduced in the 40s and 50s by the Italians, it has evolved since then.

I am sure there are some great cafes in the USA, but the quality cafe culture is not in the USA like it is here in Sydney and Melbourne. Over here great cafes/coffee is embedded in our culture. There are hardly any coffee chains here (Starbucks is barely hanging on) because anything bad quality gets rejected.

Starbucks gets rejected in South India too where coffee is huge, India is among the top 10 producers of coffee, getting rejected doesn’t necessarily mean coffee isn’t good its just that the idea of coffee is different.

South Indians are accustomed to something called filter coffee an absolute must for their morning routine very unique and different from what Starbucks offers.

Uh..there is a great cafe culture here and I live in smaller college town yet we also have some great cafes. If you visit don't just do the touristy thing and eat at the big chains. Chains only thrive here not cause of quality but because of our fast-moving culture, people are always in hurry and going through the Starbucks drive thru is quicker than pulling up and stopping at some mom n pop coffee shop.

Amazing how you don’t want him to generalize America’s cafe culture but in past you were guilty of generalizing other cultures/habits.

I've visited 3 times and I rarely ever visit big chains of anything unless its In-n-Out or Five Guys.

If you visit Sydney or Melb you will understand what I mean by coffee culture.

Vietnam is another place with amazing coffee culture.

It has nothing to do with different ideas for me. Its just the quality of coffee.

Where are the beans from. What milk is being used. How skilled is the barista. These are all the thing I consider.

Nothing beats black coffee. Creamer and sugar ruin coffee.

I really don’t understand how people can drink that stuff. I have tried it several times but Max 2 sips and then I have to throw it in the washbasin.

Here in Norway even our meetings are delayed because everyone has to have their cups filled. And you are not considered grown up if you dont drink coffee here so I am still a youngster beauty:)

I have to admit it smells great but doesn’t taste at all.

try a proper one, pour over via a chemex with some good quality freshly roasted beans.

Take it to your meetings and you will be the star of the show everytime.

Coffee is wonderful but Kashmiri pink tea is the best. Who agree's with me?:faheem Sorry for the hijack of this thread but not want to start another one for this.
