Lets update this as frequently as we can whenever it is colder than the previous record!

Today the coldes place on Earth right now is Oymyakon, Russia at -44F. However, with windchill - Shepherds Bay, Canada feels like -68F! :stokes

Warmest place on Earth today is: Dubbo, Australia at 104F.

And what is that in human units of measurement?

Ah yes - in Celsius that would be right.

Rule of thumb - at temperatures around -40, celsius and fahrenheit are the same.

Not around, exactly at -40. This is the one and only temperature where the two scales intersect.

i dont know why people use units of Fahrenheit.
0°C is for the freezing point while 100°C is the boiling point of water and it makes much more sense. Scientists use kelvin scale because its zero is absolute zero. Also ΔT in Celsius is the same in kelvin scale.

Coldest is Around -42 and hottest is 40. I would've expected an engineer to know basic conversion. Disappointing:moyo

I actually know the conversion very well and use it practically everyday, however it wouldn't have been funny then :srini

:))) That was gold but I presumed Fahrenheit is commonly used unit in Canada.

Actually Canada is quite confused on this matter. Officially everything is in metric but alot of times we have to deal with the cow boys down south so alot of people are well versed in feets, inches etc.

To give you an example, our distances are given in kilometers and meters, but area of land (when buying/selling) is given in square feet. LOL

you sure? as in my case it was showing both but square meter was in bold.

I was looking at listings online and most had it in sq ft, but some had both. Officially it would obviously be sq m.

Now countries near equator have max of 33/34 year round...

and countries more north and south have mild winters and hot summers depending on the month

Following weather pattern last few days, Ndjamena, capital of Chad is a freakishly hot place.

It is well north of equator, so they should be having a slightly mild winter now, but average daily max last few days of January is 36/37 !

And of course in real summer, they will have 44/45 max....

and this is a place where even now i would guess many people do not have AC ....

Nanga Parbat is -46 right now. Since you didn't say city, I assume Nanga Parbat counts as "place" too.

Degree F is more human scale, where as degree C is Scientific, we are not lab rats or robots to like degree C... You are relate to temperature in 30s,40s,50s,60s,70s,80s,90s,100s in Human sense, for example: 50s is little chilly(you need light jacket), 60s pleasant but barely, 70s haven Kind of weather, 80s warmer but still pleasant, 90s getting hotter but barable, 100s hot stay inside, 110s extremely hot, its cooking... Where as things change dramatically from 31-35 degree C, scale is not wide enough for human's to express or associate with feelings...

Same goes for feet Vs Meters in height, 1.94m means what 6'4"? - Now I can relate to that but not 1.94, again difference between Scientific and Human scale...Kilos VS lbs has similar issue, tracking weight in lbs is more natural...

It depends on how you have grown up'

I can relate to feet and inches, but not Fahrenheit.

If you are used to Celcius, it is very intuitive as well ...

How?? - I had grown up in Pakistan, we never express weather in units...In Pakistan we say it's "garmy", "Bhoot Garmy", "Sardi" etc max we say today it's 40 plus(which means very hot)...

Where as in US, we express weather in units, its gone bee in high 60s today, which means pleasant.. I have not heard, today its going to be in low 20s or in teens in Pakistan, we use different adjectives to express weather...

Coldest place I believe is Yakutsk ...it got to -69 there once ...there are videos of boiled water vaporizing there ...

Coldest place I've personally lived in was Moldova ...-31 and it felt like more with windchill factor ...Actually unbearable ...
