England end Day 1 of the first Test against Pakistan on a record-breaking 506/4

“Bazball won’t work in Pakistan.”

“Bazball won’t work without Bairstow.”

Every bowler has gone for more than six per over.

Remarkably, Root is the starveling at the feast.

Wonder how PAK will bat on this deck…..

wow wow wow what we have witnessed today. England going at 6.75 runrate per over in test. If not light issue, they will end a day with 600 plus runs. Mamoon was right we fully deserve this humilation.

England becomes the first team in history to score 500 runs on day 1 of a test match.

500 plus runs in a day ! That is great bowling display by the so called best bowling line up in the world!

England creates history against Pakistan:

- First team to score 500 on Day 1.
- First team to have 4 centurions on Day 1.
- 2nd highest score on any day of a Test match.

- Bazball madness in Rawalpindi.

Today's up there with Sharjah 2002 amongst Pakistan's biggest Test humiliations.

Incredibly disheartening having waited 17 years for this series. Honestly no point sacrificing your sleep as long as Babar-Ramiz clown show continues.

Even Indian trundlers will bowl better than Pakistan "fast" bowlers.

What is the world record for 100 overs in Test cricket?

England could get 650 in 100 overs!

It wasn’t even BazBall

It was just positive cricket.

BazBall basically refers to the counter attack when the top 4 accumulators have failed or got out

Pakistan can still draw this match if they lose overs every day due to light conditions. Nature doing its best to save Pakistan from a mullering. #QudratkaNizam

Most runs scored by a team in a single day of a Test match:

Sri Lanka - 509/9 (104).

England 506/4* (75).

- A world record missed by inches, unbelievable stuff!

This is an embarrassment. PCB should be ashamed in producing a road totally playing into hands of England's attacking approach.

Ramiz Raja is very quick to take credit when things are going well, but usually does a runner on days like this. He should be grilled big time.

He is a coward and hypocrite both of the highest level.

If he wasn't a PCB chairman right now, he would be first criticising the team selection, pitch and Babar's captaincy from the commentary box and spitting more venom later on his YouTube channel after the days play.

Only positive of him being Chairman is our ears don’t have to suffer his drivel

At this rate England will definitely reach the level of late WI & Aussie sides' greatness! (They have a ODI WC & T20 WC triumph lately and now with this kind of performance in tests, they are an overall great team in the current era!)

Everyone from the chairman PCB to the selection committee and the team management need to be fired!

Predictable. Like I said weeks ago 3/0 is inevitable.

Chalo at least they can have a PCB party end of the series for the good performances.

Naseem Shah’s average against England reaches 101. :)))

Pakistan attack is very good in white ball no one cany deny that

In red ball not the case, you also have to look at the selection the team made, haris making debut, mohammad ali making debut ( no one heard of him prior to being selected) and playing one horrible spinner by name of zahid mahmood.

If they selected the right bowlers Pakistan attack would look a lot better.

England would still win imo, they are currently the best cricket team, and their depth and bench strenght is strong.

As bad as pakistan bowling was today, one must also apperciate their England batting.

The scorecard doesn't make great reading.

England amassed 506 runs on day one. They showed no signs of that bug that threatened to delay the start of the series. Apparently, Ben Duckett spent all of Wednesday in bed!

Nasser Hussain said England played with "style and grace", while Atherton doesn't expect the pitch to break up as the days go one, so "the open is the conditions do change because that's the only reason to play five days".

Sangakkara thinks England could bat for another session and half, get to 750.

"It will be a new challenge for Ben Stokes to marshal his bowlers. New ball is key, if they can break Pakistan with the new ball, once you get past the top three there is opportunity for England to put pressure on Pakistan."

Buttler added: "They (England) had added so much time and hopefully put on an imposing target. Anderson will be fascinating to watch on this pitch, and he will allow stokes to set an imaginative field.

"Pakistan aren't going to score at the same rate as England, that'll buy England time and create the 20 chances to win the game."

The bowling figures don't make great reading for Pakistan. Mehmood took two wickets for 160 runs.

was this the same ground where Aus and pak played that high scoring draw?
i think among Asian nations only Sl makes true sporting wickets - i remember india tour in 2015 , the three test matches had wonderful sporting pitches something in it for each trade of bowlers and also for batsmen
Pak makes motorways, india makes bunsen burners. BD the low bounce slow spin kinda wickets.

again, just have a look of stats for the last 5 years. india makes one of the mosts balanced pitches in the world assisting both pace and spin. one or two series of rank turners doesn't paint the whole picture. i repeat have a look at the stats not preconceived reputation.

England are mediocre in tests ,Test top teams are Nz,india,Aus.

What a rubbish pitch. Atleast England is making it enjoyable to watch, Pakistan will just dead bat and bore us out of our minds against this England bowling attack.

Unless Pakistan collapses, this will go down as one of the worst Test matches to watch in the history of the game.

Indian pitches support reverse. Also India uses SG balls. Even Anderson had a decent test. From India Umesh and Shami are beasts in Indian conditions.

Till date 509 is the highest in a single by a single team. England and Srilanka already hold that record. Today they had a chance to beat and missed it.

Pakistan overattacked on this wicket. The bowling captain should have put men on the boundary and instructed the bowlers to contain, bowl one side and stick to a simple plan ie Bharat Aruns inspired off, middle stump line, length with a packed leg side field.

Babar Azam's captaincy for Pakistan at the international level mimicks his Karachi Kings captaincy ie totally devoid of logic, planning, vision and game awareness.

Pakistan needs a competent captain for success in international cricket.

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan — Virus-hit England stamped its aggressive brand of test cricket on its first test in Pakistan in 17 years by amassing a world record 506-4 with four batters smashing hundreds on Thursday.

Zak Crawley hit 122 and Ben Duckett made 107 in a blistering opening stand of 233. Ollie Pope and Harry Brook blazed hundreds in the last session in an astonishing display of power-hitting against an inexperienced Pakistan bowling attack.

And the test almost didn’t start.

England confirmed it had a fit 11 and the match could go ahead only two hours before the toss. Then it destroyed a host of records in only 75 overs when play ended prematurely because of bad light.

The 506-4 total was the highest on the first day of any test, surpassing Australia’s 494-6 in 1910 against South Africa in Sydney. England also became the fastest team to score 500 runs. Four England batters scored centuries in one innings for the first time in 15 years.

“It’s unbelievable,” Crawley said. “I was pleased with how I played . . . I was annoyed when I got out because you always want more.”

Pope made 108 and Brook 101 not out.

Of the four centurions, Duckett was the slowest. He need 105 balls for his maiden ton. Brook took 80 balls, the third fastest by an Englishman.

Captain Ben Stokes, who won the toss and elected to bat after recovering in time from the viral bug, was not out on 34 off 15 balls. England batters smashed 73 boundaries and three sixes in a white-ball fireworks display with the red ball.

“It was exciting from England’s point of view,” Pakistan coach Saqlain Mushtaq said. “The pitch was similar to the one we had against Australia, but it should have been a bit supportive.”

The coach was referring to the drawn test at the same Pindi Cricket Stadium in March, when only 14 wickets fell in five days and the pitch was rated as “below average” by ICC match referee Ranjan Madugalle.

In the absence of injured spearhead Shaheen Afridi, Pakistan opted to hand debuts to three bowlers; fast bowlers Haris Rauf and Mohammad Ali and legspinner Mohammad Zahid.

But none of the bowlers could extract any help from a slow, grassless pitch. A maiden wasn’t bowled until the 39th over.

Surprisingly, Joe Root was the only batter to miss out when he fell to Mahmood, who finished the day with 2-168. Rauf (1-78) and Ali (1-96) shared the other wickets.

Crawley and Duckett plundered the first over for 14 runs and had 100 together in the 14th over. They combined for 233 at better than a run a ball before Pakistan picked up three wickets in the middle session when Mahmood and Rauf struck in successive overs with the old ball.

Mahmood broke the stand when Duckett went for a reverse sweep against the legspinner and Pakistan successfully went for a TV referral against on-field umpire Joe Wilson’s not out decision.

Rauf then swung in late and clattered Crawley’s stumps in the next over. But England’s intent to score at pace didn’t subside after the dismissal of the two century-makers.

Root was out lbw for 23 when he was struck on the back leg while attempting a sweep.

Crawley was on 99 when Naseem Shah trapped him on the back foot, but Crawley successfully overturned the decision as video suggested the ball would have missed the leg stump.

Two balls later, Crawley achieved the fastest test century by an England opener off 86 balls with a cover-driven boundary, and Duckett reached his maiden hundred by pulling Rauf to the legside for four.

“Pretty special day,” Duckett said.

Pope lashed 14 boundaries. Brook struck six boundaries in one over by debutant part-time spinner Saud Shakeel in the final session.

Crawley and Duckett stormed England to 174-0 in the first session.

They have to win everywhere. Even this match is not a certain win. In all likelihood Pakistan can make a slow 500 and match will end in a draw.

Knew we will be in for chasing leather but this sort of cow lashing was not expected remarkable, Pakistan had no answers

exciting batting on a dead track

but looks like a draw.

Eng too dont have the bowling to force the issue

29 less overs though

It's shame pak is making graveyard for bowlers ,These kind surface don't invoke and encourage bowlers to play test matches

Absolutely ridiculous day of cricket.

Amazing effort from England but awful from Pakistan.

Flat track - let's wait to see how Pakistan bat before we decide if it is or not.

I predict Livingston and Leach will wreck us.

Lol I had to read it twice to make sure it was correct, they are becoming a very dangerous side now but doubt will be able to tackle good spin.

Do you realise Pakistan handed out 4 Test caps. I think the Bhangra should be delayed for now.

Pakistan made a huge mistake preparing these roads literally for one player; Sir James Anderson.

You could somewhat justify it for Australia’s multidimensional attack but England?

wow!
500 lmao

i bet pak lose this by over 300 runs and innings

Anderson alone can blow away our entire team.

But even then this does justify this cowardly approach of preparing dead tracks, whenever you prepare a pitch, you look at how your bowlers can take 20 wickets rather than worrying about what the opposition will do.

Outstanding performance from the England batters.

So impressed by these boys.

Amazing leadership from Stokes and Baz.

That's why the selection is even more stupid by playing 4 bowlers.

What a performance from England!

Pakistani attack seemed undercooked. Two debutants.
