Come PSL 9, and Pakistan's ICC World Cup 2023 woes will be history

This is the way of the Ninja as far as Pakistan is concerned.

PSL 9 is like the opium of the masses - we will get enthralled by the performances we see in T20s and forget all about this time.

Players will be selected for all sorts of formats depending on how well they did in PSL 9. Come next ODI WC or Champions Trophy we will be in the same boat again.

PSL is to Pakistan what the IPL is to India. We can't change what happened in the 2023 ODI WC. We have to move on.

Test and odi selections should not be based on PSL or any other t20 league

Test and odi selections should be based on domestic only

Lot of people won't agree as their superstars don't play domestic or are very poor in domestic

This is exactly what will happen.

Some new face will hit 148 and will be selected for T20 and ODI teams, if not the test team as well

Likely some young batsman will hit a flashy 60-something, and will be thrown into the T20 team, where he will come in at 7 for one game

The leading wicket taker will somehow not be selected for any T20 team

Sharjeel Khan will have a string of low scores, then a random 80+ score at a 180 strike rate and fans will want him back

Same for Mohammad Amir, who will look like vintage Amir for one or two matches and otherwise be average

Shadab will continue to bat at 3/4, give himself 4 overs regardless of his performance, and refuse to play Abrar Ahmed, Zafar Gohar, or any other Paksitani spinner in IU who would threaten his spot

Fans will continue to think we'll have any chance of being contenders for the T20 world cup

No point blaming T20's for what happened in the World Cup. After the Australia tour, PCB need to seriously consider what formats need to be prioritised. If it's another ruthless 3-0 thrashing at the hands of Australia, PCB need to, imo, forget about Test cricket and play more ODI's whenever there are windows in the international calendar.


South Africa have already made it clear that their best players will be playing white ball cricket ahead of Tests.

Remember, Pakistan were ranked #1 in ODI's with Naseem Shah in the squad. PAK are highly unlikely to reach those heights in Test cricket. So you have to choose wisely

Lol I stopped followed Psl in recent years as was only interested in how they perform internationally. Bowling or batting against only players who are willing to travel to Pakistan. Not the ideal way to select your national team. In recent years preference has been to bringing cricket to Pakistan, sacrificing preparation for world cups which could be done by playing better teams even in a neutral venue like uae, or away.

Thats actually a great thing and it shows how well PSL has developed. The purpose of cricket is entertainment and if one league makes you forget about the past tournaments, that only shows how well the league is doing to make you forget about other things.

Thats how it should be.
