It also seems the updated budgets were more than enough and given the bidding habits (which changed significantly from the first few bids) no team will likely be in a place where they are short of too much cash so seems appropriate to go for the strategy you've outlined above to increase probability of active users

Interesting bidding dynamics (talks to my background as an economist!)

Do individuals in auctions usually hit their budget? Don’t follow IPL to that degree but I would imagine not unless they really blow their budget early on. In fact, I would say Islamabad blew a bit too much of our budget early and were lucky that we picked up about 6-7 uncontested bids at the base price. This is something you don’t plan for. If those bids were contested, you can add a couple crore to each of those picks which brings that remaining amount down by about 10-15 crore.

With any remaining cash, we would have splurged on [MENTION=138318]Belawal2014[/MENTION].

Managed to get high value acquisitions we targeted. We bid upto 50 million for you, the max we could afford. Squad could easily be filled with the remaining non active players at their base price once all other teams have either exhausted their purse or completed players quota. No other team has 6-7 active players
