Consecutive series wins - India equals record by winning 9th Test series in a row

It will end in SA.

Great run, but SA are in prime form and will take down India. I am expecting good fight from India though.

Test squad is fine. ODI and t20 teams are below average.

India will face really tough task of winning in SA or on any other overseas tours as the selection policy is horrible. We say yesterday how Dhawan and Rohit bat when there is little bit help for the bowling. Except for Dhoni, no other batsman was able to score any runs. I agree India were missing Pujara, Rahane, Vijay and Kohli but again it was a really poor performance and Rohit as captain failed big time to set the tone.

You cannot set the tone if you cannot put bat to ball and get beaten for 5 consecutive balls only to finally nick one.

Same with Dhawan. Mathews totally owned Dhawan with his 120k unplayable deliveries.

The rest of the squad was simply not good enough even if it was a flat pitch.

I am not going to read much into MSD's batting. He thrives in these hopeless situations and raises the hopes of the fans. Then when the time comes to acceleration, he kills all the momentum. But he is the best WK in ODI's. So he deserves his spot.

I still have high hopes from Test squad. Vijay/Pujara/Kohli/Rahane/Rahul followed by Saha/Pandya/Ashwin/BK/Shami is a decent batting lineup even on away tours.
Hopefully India can win a Test and if lucky and all batsmen hit the form at the right time, we may have a chance to pull it off.

Thats the reason I am worried as Kohli is likely to play both Sharma and Dhawan in SA. Rahul has been shunned pretty poorly from the ODI squad and his test chances are going in the same direction. Dhoni is the only one who can play this way in the current Indian team. He has done it so many times. 29/5 against Pakistan, 130/7 against Sri Lanka recently etc. He needs to be in the team until we form a side which isn't an FTB group.

Agreed its not going to be easy but I doubt it will be such a one sided contest like today. It will be interesting to see what kind of pitches SA rolls out.

For India's sake, they should roll out Green pitches. The likes of BK will be tough to negotiate for them.

On flat pitches, BK/Ishant will be useless. Leaving only Shami to make some impact and Ashwin will be useless too on flat tracks. India will be demolished.

Also share the record of most number of home series played consecutively.

The game of cricket involves both batting and bowling. A flat track is an invitation for the Indian batting lineup to score 600+ as they have done a record number of times recently.

India won 6 series at home and 3 away (2 SL, 1 WI)
But the great aussie team (2005-07)
also won just 3 away series (WI, BD, SA)
on course of their 9 consecutive series win.

Their record is only slightly better than us because of that 1 away series win in SA.

Nowadays its become a trend to demean home team's performance as if its something like club cricket. Its still test cricket and its tough.
Winning overseas is the pinnacle along with WC win but winning test series at home too is the next best thing in cricket.

This record will have a meaning only if they win in SA.

People would rate their home record higher if they didn't doctor their pitches. Jadeja is the #1 test bowler :yk

Also the fact that India haven't played against Pakistan should also be considered.

What is stopping touring teams spinners to exploit those doctored pitches? Lyon and O’Keefe did fantastic job for Australia in India. If they can do it, why can’t spinners from england, wi, SA , NZ do it?

Indians are already up with their excuses of the fact when they lose in SA, LOL.

All records about winning at home and no doubt India has shown that over the past 12-18 months, but as mentioned by some, it ONLY means when you win away that would count for more.

We have the potential to take down SA in Tests. But however, we will get destroyed in ODI's and T20's.

It really is a shame that during 2015/2016 there was no series between ind - pak in the UAE.

Really wonder how that would have been.
