What's new

Coronavirus in India

Some of them are special catagory states. They can claim more from the SDRF.

If govt wanted to play politics why give funds to congress ruled states like CGH Jhkd Punjab?

True, then why we are getting only 157 crores with this much positive cases even when the other non BJP states are getting more??

I want his TJ friends to be admitted in Hospital asap. I don’t care about him playing victim tbh.

I don't have any association with tableeg jamaat but I know they didn't do any of these shameful acts. It's all muslim haters media's conspiracy.

OTOH SS cadres are joining BJP as per reports by the state. The SS is no more a hindutva party and its very evident, Thackeray will find it difficult to get the hardcore SS votes to vote for SS.

With congress openly insulting Marathi Hindutva icons like Savarkar and SS keeping shut, they are losing voters.

There is a reason why Bala saheb never took a post and kept the family away from posts.

Now Udhhav is in a fix. If he leaves the alliance he will lose the CM ship and lose face as BJP wont give him CM post. And if he continues to be in the alliance then appeasement by INC NCP will eat away at SS vote bank.

In the circles I am part of, the hate against SS has dwindled. Uddhav has also made overtures to BJP and has shown inclination in working with the centre. The reason BJP saw a spike in support was due to Fadnavis being considered an able administrator. Uddhav has shown, he is just as effective and if he can navigate the current crisis well, they will be able to talk to BJP as equals.

I read the article as to who decided as well, want the formula.

That’s from planning commission happening from long time..My guess it’s based on population and historical disaster data..For example I don’t think Kerala has huge flood issues few years ago but Maharashtra have frequent droughts..May be from next commission Kerala will also have increased amount because of floods happening regularly in last couple of years.

Bu then financial commission didn’t take into account the economy of the state?
Maybe you need to visit those figures as well and see where Maha stands.

I can confirm or deny the "test-per-million" number for Pakistan and this number seems off. 67 test-per-million and 220 million population means Pakistan has conducted a total of 14,740 tests. This is simply not true since Punjab alone has done over 17,000 tests.

As per National Institute of Health, until yesterday we had conducted about 30,308 tests and that amounts to 138 tests-per-million.

Yeah the numbers are outdated/incorrect. There was also an issue with NIH and the number of recorded tests for Punjab until a couple of days ago.

Yes, the issue was NIH was only showing public labs test count and not private labs but was showing all positives so it was skewing the postive cases to test number ratio.

It's 60 now..Still dont think it make huge difference..Positive to Test Ratio is at ~ 3.9 ...

I think we are not testing enough, especially cases now being found in Dharavi, we cannot take chances. Mumbai itself should be testing 10K per day

Test kit shortage.I guess the million kit order we placed a month back delivery is comign now only..

Luckily Mylabs started delivering Made in India kits from today..Hope they ramp up..

"Proud Of You": Pakistan Air Traffic Controller To Air India's COVID-19 Relief Flights

New Delhi: National carrier Air India, which has operated numerous relief and evacuation flights worldwide amid the novel coronavirus pandemic, has received messages of praise from several countries. The latest nation to join that list is the one least expected - Pakistan.
The Air Traffic Control in the country not only welcomed Air India flights into its airspace but also appreciated the work the airline is doing in these uncertain times.

On April 2 Air India operated two flights from Mumbai to Frankfurt in Germany; these flights carried relief materials and European nationals stranded in India after the "total lockdown" announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 24.

"The flight took off from Mumbai at 1430 hours. We entered Pakistan airspace at 1700 hours. We tried to contact Air Traffic Control but did not get a response. So we changed frequencies and (then) managed to contact ATC," a senior Air India officer said.

The first words from Pakistan ATC surprised the pilots.

"As-salamu alaykum (Peace be upon you). This is Karachi Control welcoming Air India for relief flights," the Air India officer told NDTV, quoting the ATC.

"Confirm you are operating relief flights for Frankfurt," the ATC then asked, to which the Air India pilot replied: "Affirm".

According to Air India officials the Pakistan ATC also told the pilots they were proud of them for operating flights at such difficult times. "We are proud of you that in a pandemic situation you are operating flights, Good Luck!" the ATC said.

"Thank you so much," the captain of the flight responded.

The Air India official told NDTV that Pakistan ATC also saved the flight 15 minutes flying time by allowing them to fly closer to Karachi.

The Pakistan ATC's helpful stance didn't end there.

A short while later, when the Air India planes were entering Iran airspace but were unable to contact the authorities, Pakistan helped again.

"Here also Pakistan helped us and got in touch with Iran and gave our message to them. Normally in such flights we spend maximum number of hours in Iran airspace but Iran also gave us a shorter route," the Air India official told NDTV.

The Air India flights also received praise and welcome from Turkish and German Air Traffic Controllers.

"The flight was scheduled to reach Frankfurt at 0915 hours but it landed at 0835 hours," Air India said.

The national carrier is scheduled to operate 18 charter flights to repatriate German, French, Irish and Canadian nationals stuck in India, as requested by their respective embassies.

All flights, including ones bringing critical medical equipment from China, are being operated in adherence to safety protocols laid down by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

Air India is also scheduled to operate cargo flights between Delhi and Shanghai to bring in critical medical equipment for India; these flights will run till April 9.

The novel coronavirus pandemic has infected over a million people worldwide and led to nearly 50,000 deaths. In India the number of cases has crossed 3,000, with 75 deaths linked to the virus, the Health Ministry said on Saturday.

A South African Muslim cleric, who recently returned from India after attending the Nizamuddin congregation, has died after contracting the novel coronavirus, according to his family members

Moulana Yusuf Tootla, 80, attended the March 1-15 Tablighi Jamaat congregation in the Nizmuddin area, that has emerged as the epicentre for the spread of the coronavirus in different parts of India and abroad after thousands of people took part in it.

Now contact tracing need to be done for all the passengers from that flight..

Kerala has plateaued i see. Only Kasargod is the issue.

How is the plasma transfusion experiment going?

Around 80% of our cases are from abroad. When this was stopped it was comparatively easy to control the disease spread than earlier.

Plasma transfusion is still in its early stage. It will take some time to produce the desired results.

It's same for most states..Only now Nizamudden event added more local cases...I guess TN have 80% cases related to Jamaat..

They dont have huge amount of Nizamuddeen returns as well..TN/TR/Kar/AP etc have far more people who visited Nizamuddeen.

Govt has identified 60 people who attended the TJ event of which only 5-6 are positive as of now. Some of them are still waiting for their results. Good thing is that all of them where already in quarantine as they where coming from other states.

This should not have become this big issue if 5 Indonesians who tested positive on March 17th in Telangana revealed they went to Nizamuddeen. We lost precious 10 days in identifying this cluster..

now looks like 22000 people (both who visited Delhi ad contacts) related to jamaat are under quarantine across country.

Apart from thermal screening in the airport, did we actually follow up the foreign returnees?? I don’t think we did especially in those busy airports. They are also one of the major source of infection.

You can always have few slipping through,i guess same happened with Kerala family coming from Italy. Here the problem was they participated in a huge congreagation and then people went to 17 differnet states.

I know two of my colleagues who returned from Germany and UK where not just quarantined , but a nurse used to visit them twice a day for check ups . I heard in a friends apartment one guy who had escaped was tracked down to his house . This is Bangalore though , not sure about other places .

Agree never defended that TJ event and it’s the major cluster in India now. But we need to track back other clusters too at the same time before it gets out of our control.

How do you even track down thousands of people , it’s practically not possible with 100% accuracy in countries like India . We need a lot of luck here :(

Test Kit cocncerns i guess...a month back Govt was ordering 1 million news kits but supply issues are there.Luckily make in India kits are started and Kerala got 1000 kits already from Mylabs and getting another 2000 kits today.

In the initial stock of 1 lac kits Kerala & Maharastra got major share so other states has to struggle.Even in Maharastra they used 90% kits in Mumbai metropoliton area and rest of Maha had little testing.

Some idiots try their best to avoid quarantine without informing the health authorities. We have such cases here and they went on to infect few others too. That elderly couple who now recovered got infection from their son, daughter in law and grandson who came from Italy. They roamed in the town for a week before getting caught.

Coronavirus cases, India:

Maharashtra: 635
Tamil Nadu: 485
Delhi: 445
Kerala: 306
Telangana: 272
Uttar Pradesh: 234
Rajasthan: 210
Andhra Pradesh: 192
Madhya Pradesh: 179
Karnataka: 144
Gujarat: 108
Jammu and Kashmir: 92
Haryana: 84
Punjab: 65
West Bengal: 53
Bihar: 32

Yeah we had this list published , you can check if some one in nearby apartment is being quarantined. Had few near mine , but no positives yet .
The Pali Hill case in Mumbai scares me the most , apparently he stepped out just twice to get grocery and no travel history . He’s positive :(

We did it here in Kerala. I am sure for other states with better facilities will be able to do it faster than us.

Even the 1 lakh India had bought for money problem is not money but demand is too high..

I have problem with Shashi buying too..when there is shortage new to plan for all states otherwise huge clusters will pop up in places were testing done very little.

He may have got it from grocery que or shop..many details doesn’t appear quickly in media..Tumkur case where initially said as no source now turned out guy went to Nizamuddin.

India Bans All Exports of Trump’s ‘Game Changer’ Virus Drug

India banned all exports of hydroxychloroquine, a malaria drug that President Donald Trump has touted as a “game changer” in the fight against Covid-19.

Exports of the drug and its formulations are prohibited “without any exceptions” and with immediate effect, India’s Directorate General of Foreign Trade said in an April 4 order on its website. The trade regulator had last month restricted overseas shipments of the drug, allowing only limited exceptions such as on humanitarian grounds and for meeting prior commitments.

At a press conference on Saturday, Trump said he spoke to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and appealed for the release of shipments U.S. has already ordered. India is giving his request “serious consideration,” he said.

There’s no conclusive scientific evidence that hydroxychloroquine can treat the infection from the novel pathogen.

The ban reflects India’s rising concern over the rapid spread of the coronavirus, with risks of community spread rising in the country of 1.3 billion people.

India has recorded 3,374 positive cases so far and has lost 77 lives, according to the federal health ministry. The country has struggled to keep people indoors during a three-week lockdown that started March 25, raising fears of accelerating spread.

The study ( where HCQ was used ) says HCQ resulted in rapid lowering of viral load in 5 Patients .
How convenient to not mention the 7 patients termed as "lost to follow up". 3 of these 7 lost follow up because they died. Other 4 lost follow up because they were on ventilators .

So HCQ is more beneficial only in mild cases.

Damn cases beginning to jump in India. I hope these are the cases of TJ members who are already detained/quarantined with test results coming now, and not the general public.

New Delhi: Eight Malaysian citizens who were about to board a special flight to Malaysia were caught at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport today. Sources said they were part of the Tablighi Jamaat Centre at Nizamuddin, which has been marked as a hotspot for the spread of coronavirus. Though international flights are not operating, special flights are being operated by some nations to evacuate their nationals stranded in the country.

BCG pre-immunity, early lockdown & exposure to bacterial infections may slow Covid spread in India

Till 05-Apr-2020 , India has conducted 128,320 total COVID-19 tests in which 4288 have been positive cases. So, positive cases percentage is 3.3 % !

Countries like US, UK , Spain are not BCG vaccinated so there positive cases percentages (for total tests conducted) are 19.5 %, 24.4 %, 37 %

P.S : These COVID-19 test kits are not indian manufactured (till now) just in case if you are wondering.

ICMR updates it site for every to 2 to 3 days. Also ICMR says it is performing 11000 tests per day.

Since few days 500 + positive cases were reported per day which means at 8000 to 10000 tests are being performed. A test result usually takes 4 to 5 days.

India death toll rises to 109

In the past few minutes, we've got confirmation that the number of deaths in India has officially reached109, as confirmed cases climb to 4,067.

We had earlier reported that local media were saying 100 people had died from Covid-19, but this was not yet confirmed by the health ministry.

The country has been seeing a steady spike in cases recently, as the spread has been doubling every 4.1 days, according to officials.
