Yogi Adityanath took charge as the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh in March 2017.

The data showed that 266 accused persons were killed in police encounters since 2018, reflecting the state police's emphasis on what the DGP described as a “zero-tolerance policy” against crime following the chief minister's instructions.

In 2025 alone, police conducted 2,739 operations, during which 3,153 accused were injured, while 48 were killed in encounters. One policeman was also killed during these operations, the data showed.

During these actions, 1,783 police personnel were injured and 18 lost their lives, according to the data.

The figures showed that 2025 recorded the highest number of accused killed in police action when compared to each of the previous seven years, including 2024, when 25 alleged criminals were shot.

The UP Police has consistently maintained that the operations were carried out in self-defence and in accordance with law, as part of a broader crackdown on organised crime and repeat offenders.

Madhya Pradesh: Son kills mother in Shahdol over witchcraft suspicion, buries body in field

Shahdol DSP confirmed a murder case has been filed. The incident follows a similar matricide in the region just two days earlier, highlighting the dangerous influence of superstition and blind faith in rural India.

Bhopal:
A horrifying case of superstition and blind belief has come to light from Shahdol district in Madhya Pradesh, where a son brutally murdered his own mother, suspecting her of practicing witchcraft. The incident has shocked the local community and once again raised concerns over the deep-rooted problem of superstition in rural India.

Murder driven by superstition

The shocking crime occurred in Kutela village, located near the Chhattisgarh border under the Jhikbijuri police outpost in Shahdol district. According to police, 25-year-old Satyendra Singh suspected his mother, Prembai, of being responsible for his uncle’s death and the illnesses of children in the family.

In a fit of blind rage, Satyendra, along with his cousin Omprakash, attacked his mother with an axe and sticks. Despite her cries for mercy, he continued to beat her mercilessly until she died. When she stopped breathing, he strangled her to confirm her death.

Body buried to destroy evidence

After the brutal murder, Satyendra, with the help of his cousin and other family members — Gulab Singh, Aman Singh, and Amod Singh — buried the body in a nearby field to hide the crime. However, the gruesome act soon came to light when police, acting on a tip-off, dug up the site and recovered the buried body.

The entire village was gripped with fear and disbelief after witnessing the police recover the decomposed remains. All five accused have been taken into custody and are being interrogated.

Police investigation reveals disturbing details

During the investigation, police found that Satyendra had grown convinced that his mother was practicing witchcraft, which he believed caused a series of misfortunes in the family. Shahdol DSP (Headquarters) Raghavendra Dwivedi said,

“The accused buried the body in the field to destroy evidence. The corpse has been exhumed and sent for post-mortem. A case of murder has been registered against all the accused.”

Eyewitnesses revealed that the victim pleaded for her life, repeatedly begging her son not to kill her, but Satyendra continued to attack her until she stopped breathing.

Another similar case two days earlier

This is not an isolated incident. Just two days before, a similar case was reported in Barkachh village under the Byohari region, where another son killed his mother over suspicion of witchcraft. These repeated cases highlight the dangerous hold of superstition and witchcraft-related fears in the Shahdol region.

A grim reminder of superstition's deadly grip

The Shahdol murder once again exposes how superstition and blind faith continue to claim innocent lives in parts of India. Despite awareness campaigns and stricter laws, belief in witchcraft and “black magic” remains deeply rooted, leading to tragic cases where family members turn on their own loved ones.

Authorities have urged residents to reject such harmful beliefs and report any similar suspicions or practices to local law enforcement before they escalate into violence.

Six masked men wield knives, vandalise vehicles in Bhopal; incident caught on CCTV

Victims stated that they had no prior connection or dispute with the attackers. “They were complete strangers,” one victim said, confirming that the incident appeared random.

New Delhi:
Six unidentified men wreaked havoc at the Bhopal’s Raja Bhoj Complex in Gandhinagar. The incident occurred around 2 am, targeting vehicles parked near Gondi Pura Jail Road. The assailants broke the windows of two cars, causing significant damage. CCTV footage from the area shows two of the men wielding knives during the attack, while the group quickly fled the scene.

No known motive

Victims stated that they had no prior connection or dispute with the attackers. “They were complete strangers,” one victim said, confirming that the incident appeared random.

Police teams from Gandhinagar Police Station have begun searching for the six suspects. Authorities are reviewing the CCTV footage to identify the attackers and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Another such incident in Bhopal

The incident occurred just hours after reports of another violent attack in Bhopal, where a group of 20–25 masked men armed with swords, sticks, and baseball bats stormed a café. The attack took place at Magic Spot Café on Hoshangabad Road in the city’s Misrod area. CCTV footage captured the assailants, faces covered, rushing into the café and smashing property within minutes as terrified customers fled.

The sudden violence caused panic, with patrons escaping through side exits or taking cover behind tables to avoid being harmed. The cafe owner has filed an FIR naming five individuals. Police, however, have ruled out robbery as a motive and are investigating possible personal enmity or business rivalry.

Two suspects have already been taken into custody for questioning, officials said. A senior police officer stated, “This appears to be a targeted act of vandalism rather than theft. Three police stations, Misrod, Bagsewania, and Katara Hills are working together, analyzing CCTV footage and collecting witness statements to uncover further details.”

The victim, who works as a sales representative, registered a complaint at the Narsingi police station against the accused, who works at a cafe in the same building. The police have arrested the accused and produced him before the court on Friday and sent him to judicial remand.

The woman works at a garment store, the police said, adding that she was living in the apartment with two of her co-workers.

New Delhi:
A bodybuilder, Rohit Dhankar from Haryana’s Humayunpur village in Rohtak district, was beaten to death allegedly by a group of men after leaving a wedding in Bhiwani district. Police said the attack occurred near a railway crossing after an argument at the wedding earlier in the evening.

Dispute began over inappropriate behaviour

According to police and witnesses, Dhankar and his friend Jatin objected to a group of men using improper language and harassing women at the wedding venue in Rewari Khera on the night of November 27. Although the matter seemed resolved at the venue, the same group later intercepted their car while they were returning home.

Attack with rods and hockey sticks

Jatin said the men surrounded their car, blocked their way at a railway crossing, and attacked Dhankar with iron rods and hockey sticks. Jatin managed to escape, but Dhankar was severely injured. He was first taken to Bhiwani General Hospital and later referred to PGIMS Rohtak, where he died from his injuries on Saturday.

Police investigation underway

Bhiwani Sadar SHO Vikas said a murder case has been registered. Six suspects have been detained, and one vehicle used in the attack has been seized. Four names are listed in the FIR, while others are still being identified. Police said over a dozen men were involved in the assault.

He had represented India internationally and worked as a gym trainer. Former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had also honoured him in 2016 for his achievements.

Pistols, Hockey Sticks, Iron Rods: How Ritual at a Greater Noida 'Baraat' Turned Violent, Leaving 6 Critical

A dispute over a wedding ritual during a marriage procession in Greater Noida escalated into a violent attack involving firearms and sticks, leaving six members of a family critically injured and triggering multiple arrests.

What was meant to be a night of celebration in Greater Noida’s Dadri area spiralled into shocking violence on Friday, leaving six members of a family critically injured after a dispute over a wedding ritual erupted during a marriage procession.
The incident as per a report by Times of India, took place in Rampur village, where Devendra, a resident of nearby Jaganpur, had arrived with his relatives to attend a wedding.

Ritual Dispute Sparks Violent Attack

Police said tensions flared during a ritual that is traditionally performed by the eldest member of the family as part of the procession. What began as a verbal disagreement soon escalated into a brutal attack.

"An argument broke out over the ritual, after which one group retrieved sticks from their vehicles and attacked the other," a police officer was quoted as saying by TOI. The assault left six people injured, including a 73-year-old man, all of whom are currently undergoing treatment.

n his complaint, Devendra alleged that Leela, along with several others, surrounded his family while armed with pistols, hockey sticks, iron rods, and other weapons. The attackers allegedly issued death threats and vandalised the family’s vehicles before launching the assault.
Devendra sustained serious injuries in the attack, while his father and uncle reportedly lost consciousness after being beaten. Police said the First Information Report has been registered against 34 named accused and 10 to 15 unidentified persons under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including charges related to attempted murder.

Video, Old Rivalry, and Arrests

A video of the incident, accessed by TOI, captures the terrifying moments of violence. The footage shows several men beating another man with sticks in the middle of a road, while a groom’s chariot stands abandoned nearby. Wedding music can be heard playing in the background as chaos unfolds.
The FIR also points to a long-standing family rivalry. Devendra told police that members of Leela’s family had allegedly attempted to kill his relatives last year, a case that is still pending in court. He claimed the latest attack was not spontaneous but part of a larger conspiracy linked to the earlier dispute.
Police confirmed that Leela’s son, Jitendra, and a relative, Yogesh, were arrested on Saturday. Authorities said further arrests are likely as the investigation continues and efforts are underway to identify those seen in the video footage.

‘Hot Knife, Lit Candles’: Father Frequently Tortured Class 4 Boy in Tamil Nadu; Shocking Details Emerge

A Chennai man in Tamil Nadu was arrested after branding his 10-year-old son with a hot knife and candles, abusing him to vent anger over estranged wife school refusal incident.

Chennai: A 43-year-old father branded his 10-year-old son's body with a hot knife because the latter refused to go to the school. The incident occurred in Gudiyatham taluk of Kolimedu village in Vellore district, Tamil Nadu, earlier this week. The accused had also warned his family and neighbours against informing the police about the incident. However, a case was registered when the news spread through the town. Locals said Poovarasan's brutal act was motivated by the anger at his estranged wife.

The accused father is identified as N Poovarasan. On Thursday, he went to wake up his son, a class IV student, for school. Reluctant, the minor boy dismissed him, reported The Times of India. This infuriated the accused and he heated the knife to press it on his son's hands, body and thighs. The kid screamed in pain, grabbing attention of his grandfather resting in the next room. When he came to check on the child, the grandfather, Natrajan, saw the accused torturing the child physically.

The grandfather immediately called his neighbours and took the minor to Gudiyatham GH with their help. The boy was given urgent medical attention for his speedy recovery. Fearing legal action, the accused threatened everyone against filing a police complaint. But the news had already reached the police by this time. Following which, the Gudiyatham Taluk Police arrested Poovarasan and registered a case against him. They produced him before a local court, which remanded him in judicial custody on Friday.

'Used Lit

The police investigation revealed that the accused was having a dispute with his wife, Aimaavathi, so she had left the house to live with her parents for a long time. The accused, however, kept his son to himself and it was not the first time he assaulted his son.
Locals informed that Poovarasan frequently abused the child. He even used lit candles to burn his son. They said the only reason he always tortured the kid is to vent out his anger at his wife, Gudiyatham taluk inspector C Sivasankar affirmed, as per the media report.

Delhi Police busts Rs 4.3 crore racket selling expired imported food with fake labels, 7 arrested

These expired food products were being sold through major retail chains, shopping malls, and e-commerce platforms across India, posing a grave threat to public health, especially as several seized items included baby food and consumables.

New Delhi:
The Delhi Police Crime Branch has busted a large-scale racket involved in the illegal import, tampering of expiry dates, and repackaging of expired international food products, seizing adulterated items worth nearly Rs 4.3 crore, officials said on Tuesday. Seven people have been arrested in connection with the case.

According to police, the expired products were being circulated through major retail outlets, shopping malls, and e-commerce platforms across the country, posing a serious risk to public health. Several of the seized items included baby food and other consumables, raising significant safety concerns.

(Delhi Police @CrimeBranchDP
team busted a racket that was selling internationally branded food items and baby food by manipulating their expiry dates, affixing fake barcodes and repackaging them. These food items, which pose a threat to health, were being supplied through retail stores, malls and e-commerce platforms. The police team led by Inspector Manjeet Kumar raided two locations in Sadar Bazaar area and arrested seven criminals.Food items worth approximately ₹ 4.3 crores and machinery used for changing their dates, printing and sealing were recovered.)

7 people arrested

Acting upon specific secret information, the Cyber Cell of the Crime Branch conducted raids at Pahari Dheeraj and Faiz Ganj, Sadar Bazar, Delhi, an area known for dense wholesale markets. During the operation, seven persons including the main mastermind were apprehended, and huge quantities of expired international food products were recovered from shops and godowns.

Seven accused persons involved in the racket have been arrested, including Atal Jaiswal (54) of Rana Pratap Bagh, Delhi, identified as the mastermind and godown owner; Shiv Kumar (40) from Giridih district in Jharkhand; Bishwajit Dhara (25) of Malviya Nagar, Delhi; Vinod (43) and Arun Kumar (30), both residents of Darbhanga in Bihar; Vijay Kant (50) from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh; and Shamim (30) of Etah, Uttar Pradesh.

Officials from the Food Safety Department of the Delhi government were called to the spot to collect samples and carry out legal formalities.

What did the investigation reveal?

According to police, the investigation revealed that the mastermind, accused Atal, was importing near-expiry international food products at extremely low prices through Mumbai-based wholesale agents, who sourced consignments from the UK, USA, Dubai, and other countries. By the time these consignments reached India, most of the products had already expired or become unfit for human consumption.

Instead of destroying them as mandated by law, the accused illegally "remanufactured" the products by changing manufacturing and expiry dates, altering labels and product information, affixing fake barcodes, batch numbers, and MRPs and repacking products in fresh-looking wrappers.

Police said the tampered products were supplied in bulk to well-known retail outlets, malls, and online platforms across India, earning huge illegal profits while exposing consumers to serious health risks.

The recovery of printing machines, sealing equipment, and date-altering devices confirmed the existence of a full-fledged illegal repackaging and adulteration unit.

Police seized 43,000 kg of food products

A case has been registered under sections 275, 318(4), 336, 340, and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

The seized items include over 43,000 kg of food products and more than 14,600 litres of beverages, ranging from biscuits, chocolates, and snacks to sauces, condiments, and energy drinks of popular international brands.

Police said that strict legal action will be taken against all individuals involved in the illegal trade of adulterated and expired food products to ensure that such hazardous items do not reach the public.

Student caught buying alcohol in school uniform sparks outrage in MP's Damoh, collector orders probe

Madhya Pradesh: The incident took place in the Patharia Assembly constituency, which is represented by Madhya Pradesh’s Animal Husbandry Minister Lakhan Patel. Local residents have alleged that the liquor shop in question openly sells alcohol to school students and minors without any restrictions.

Damoh:
A shocking video from Damoh district in Madhya Pradesh has gone viral on social media, showing a student in school uniform buying a bottle of alcohol at a liquor shop. The video clearly shows the student arriving at the shop with a school bag slung over his shoulder, handing over money to the shopkeeper who, despite scolding him, eventually hands over the liquor bottle. This disturbing incident has raised serious concerns about the easy availability of alcohol to minors in the region and has triggered an immediate response from local authorities.

The incident reportedly occurred in Patharia Assembly constituency, the electoral region of Madhya Pradesh's Animal Husbandry Minister Lakhan Patel. Locals allege that the shop openly sells liquor to school students and minors without any restrictions. Many had witnessed such transactions frequently and one person recorded the footage, which then spread widely on social media. This episode adds to the ongoing political and social agitation over liquor issues that have gripped Damoh in recent months, including allegations of nexus between liquor mafias and local politicians.

Administrative action and ongoing investigation

Damoh Collector Sudhir Kochar has taken the matter seriously and directed the Excise Department officer to conduct an urgent investigation. Gujarat: Massive fire breaks out at wood warehouse in Godhra | Video

'Miyaa, Drink Kiya?' Hyderabad Top Cop's Warning to Drunk Drivers on New Year’s Eve

Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar issued a strong New Year’s Eve warning to revellers, urging them to avoid drunk driving and follow traffic laws.

Proving that humour can be the best law enforcer, Hyderabad’s top cop used Deccani wit to warn New Year’s Eve revellers to stay off the roads after drinking.

In a series of posts on X, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar asked people to make responsible choices and avoid getting behind the wheel after drinking. “Miyaa, drink kiya? Toh steering ko salaam bolke cab pakdo. Google ‘cab’, not ‘lawyer’. Don’t drink and drive, Hyderabad,” he wrote, making it clear that excuses would not be entertained.

The commissioner reiterated that Hyderabad Police follows a zero-tolerance policy on drunk driving. In another post in Telugu, he called on citizens to adopt a simple New Year resolution: not to drink and drive.
Referring to offenders who argue with police or claim influential connections after being caught, Sajjanar warned that such tactics would not work. “Drinks are fun when consumed responsibly. Driving drunk and pretending to be a legal genius at midnight? Not fun,” he remarked, cautioning violators against trying to outsmart law enforcement.

Known for his tough stance on traffic violations, Sajjanar reminded citizens that drunk driving endangers innocent lives. He warned that strategic checks across the city would leave no room for escape, comparing them to a “chakravyuh” that leads offenders not home, but to jail.
To enforce the drive, special drunk-driving checks will be conducted at 120 locations across Hyderabad on New Year’s Eve, with intensified enforcement continuing through the first week of January. Sajjanar said violators would face strict action, including heavy fines, vehicle seizure, imprisonment, and cancellation of driving licences.
Appealing to citizens, he urged them to use cabs or hire drivers if they had been drinking, adding that New Year 2026 should be remembered for celebrations—not for regret caused by reckless choices.

India: Newlywed man, matchmaker die by suicide after wife elopes

Police register cases after husband and relative take their lives following elopement.

A newlywed man and his family member died by suicide in Karnataka’s Davangere district after the wife allegedly eloped with her lover just two to three months into the marriage, police and local media reported. The case has prompted investigators to register multiple cases and is under active inquiry.
According to police, 30-year-old Harish married Saraswati from Gummanuru village roughly three months ago. On January 23, Saraswati left home saying she was going to a temple but did not return. Her parents filed a missing persons complaint after her absence raised alarm.

Subsequent investigation revealed that Saraswati had eloped with her lover, identified as Shivakumar, prompting shock among relatives and authorities. Upon learning that his wife had fled with another man, Harish allegedly died by suicide, leaving behind a purported death note in which he named individuals he held responsible for the situation, according to police statements shared with The Indian Express.

The tragedy did not end there. Rudresh, Saraswati’s uncle and the family member who had helped arrange the marriage, is also reported to have died by suicide after learning of Harish’s death. Police have registered two cases under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, reflecting the complexity of the incident and the involvement of multiple individuals.
Local authorities are continuing their investigation, including gathering witness accounts and reviewing digital communication records, as no arrests have yet been reported in connection with the deaths. The tragic sequence of events underscores ongoing challenges around familial conflict and mental health responses in situations of personal distress.

The biryani killer: Woman laces dish with sedatives before suffocating husband

She thought he was an obstacle to her love life

Biryani for dinner is known to leave one with a smile, but for one man in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh, it turned out to be a last meal.
In the Chiluvur village, an onion trader got home exhausted after a long day selling his wares. His wife – whom he had been married to since 2007 – had prepared a fragrant biryani – the meat and rice dish was flavoured just so… with about 20 sleeping pills.

The woman, who was reportedly having an affair with a male colleague, saw her husband as an obstacle in their love story, reported Times of India. Desperate to be with one another, the mom-of-two colluded with the boyfriend to poison the husband.
And so, on January 18, the feast was carefully prepped and fed to the unsuspecting spouse. Once he had passed out, at about 11.30pm, the boyfriend who was lying in wait, joined the woman – him, sitting on the seller’s chest while she smothered him with a pillow. Once they had confirmed that he had stopped breathing, the boyfriend left the house and the woman stayed watching the body all night long. In the morning, she raised the alarm, crying that he had died because of a heart attack.

When relatives noticed drops of dried blood around the victim’s ear and saw bruising on his body, they realized something was amiss. And when police took the body in for an autopsy, they discovered that he died by suffocation, leading to the arrests of the real culprits.
Further investigations are ongoing.

Bengaluru: YouTuber Held for Forcing Minor into Car; Accused Claims She Asked for Lift

A YouTuber was arrested for allegedly abducting and misbehaving with a 17-year-old girl in Ramanagara. Police noted inconsistencies in statements and are investigating all aspects of the case.

Bengaluru News: A YouTuber has been arrested for allegedly forcing a 17-year-old girl into his car and driving away near Magadi Town in Ramanagara district during the early hours of January 1. According to the girl, she was returning home from her aunt’s house around 2 am when the accused, who was allegedly drunk, stopped his car and asked her about a farmhouse party. She claimed that he then misbehaved with her and drove away. However, police said they noticed several inconsistencies while questioning the girl’s family and added that they are yet to record a detailed statement from the minor, who has given differing versions so far.

Police have arrested the accused YouTuber and sent him to judicial custody, reported The Times of India.

During questioning, officers said the statements given by the girl’s family were confusing, while the accused presented a completely different version of events. The police initially kept the accused in police custody for one day before sending him to judicial custody at the Ramanagara district prison. He has been booked under multiple sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Father's Version

In the complaint filed by the girl’s father, he said the incident took place in the early hours of New Year’s Day. He stated that his daughter was walking home alone after attending a New Year’s Eve gathering at her aunt’s house when a YouTuber stopped his car and asked her about a farmhouse party. When she refused to respond, the father alleged that the accused dragged her into the car and misbehaved with her. Another man was reportedly present in the vehicle.
"My daughter refused to answer. He dragged her inside and misbehaved. Another man was in the car. They drove some distance and parked. The two men consumed alcohol, and then the friend left, but the accused continued driving with my daughter. She noticed his phone in the car and used it to call her brother. We rushed to the spot and found the car rammed into a shop door. We rescued her," the father stated, according to the media report.
The complaint said the two men drove for some distance, stopped the car, and consumed alcohol. While the friend later left, the accused allegedly continued driving with the girl still inside the vehicle.
The girl then noticed the accused’s mobile phone in the car and used it to call her brother. After receiving the call, family members rushed to the location and found the car had crashed into a shop shutter. They rescued the girl from the vehicle.

Accused's Account

The accused, however, denied the allegations. He claimed he was returning to Tumakuru after filming New Year celebrations at a farmhouse when the girl asked for a lift, saying someone was waiting for her nearby. He said she later asked for his phone to make a call. He alleged that when her father and brother arrived, she suddenly accused him of forcing her into the car and misbehaving with her.
A senior police officer said the investigation had raised several questions. He said the family could not clearly explain why the girl was allowed to walk alone at 2 am and added that her statements contained inconsistencies.
Meanwhile, the girl’s family has also filed complaints against the accused’s friend who was in the car and the owner of the farmhouse where the New Year’s Eve party was held. Police said the investigation is ongoing and that all angles of the case are being examined.

In the past five years, Mumbai has witnessed a sharp spike in cyber fraud cases, including ATM frauds, card cloning, data stealing, OTP sharing and many more. The city has lost more than Rs 2000 crore in five years in nearly 20,000 cases; however, recoveries remain quite minimal.

The victims are falling prey to these cyber frauds not just by sophisticated scammers but also by banks that routinely refuse reimbursement despite RBI's zero-liability rules, according to a TOI report.
Out of all these cases reported in Mumbai, 4132 FIRs were for credit or debit card fraud, ATM fraud, SIM swap, cloning, activation and OTP sharing, which counted for Rs 165 crore; however, police just recovered Rs 4.8 crore.

How victims fell prey to cyber fraud

In one of the cases, a Sakinaka resident, who was a businesswoman, lost Rs 2.5 lakh after her credit card was cloned in April this year. When she was attending a meeting in a Mumbai office with her card in possession, fraudulent transactions were made. She alleged that her PIN could have been captured by CCTV during a shopping trip.

In another case, a 64-year-old retired engineer received daily calls from recovery agents and legal notices since March 2023 in four fraudulent fund transfers worth Rs 1.9 lakh. The man claimed that scamsters stole his card details to buy herbal products from Bihar. Despite his filing a complaint and blocking his card, the bank did not reverse his transactions.
Earlier in August this year, the Mumbai Police Crime Branch busted a cyber fraud racket that cheated victims of over Rs 60 crore by using bank accounts and SIM cards obtained from people belonging to low-income groups.
Officials said 12 people linked to the gang have been arrested. Among them are five original account holders who allegedly sold their bank accounts, SIM cards, and related documents for a few thousand rupees. The other seven accused include a couple who led the operations. Police clarified that since the account holders were aware of the illegal activity, they too have been booked in the case.

According to DCP Raj Tilak Roushan, the gang paid around ₹7,000–₹8,000 to each person in return for access to their accounts. In total, 943 accounts were purchased, of which 181 were actively used to transfer money generated through cyber fraud. The investigation began after 339 complaints were filed with the Crime Branch.

So far, the accused have been linked to scams worth ₹60.82 crore. Their methods included fake investment schemes, fraudulent loan offers, and so-called “digital arrest” cases. What Happened Before Bengaluru Business Tycoon CJ Roy’s Death? Legal Fight With Income Tax Department Emerges

Following the suicide of CJ Roy, Chairman of Confident Group, new information has surfaced indicating he had contested an Income Tax Department search operation prior to his death.

Bengaluru: Days after Bengaluru-based businessman and Confident Group Chairman, CJ Roy, committed suicide, fresh details revealed that he had legally challenged the Income Taz Department's seach operation before his death.

CJ Roy had filed a petition challenging the Income Tax Department’s order dated November 27 and the subsequent search conducted on December 3, terming both the search and the panchnama illegal.
The writ petition was filed on behalf of eight companies, including Confident Projects, Confident Airlines, Confident Resorts, Confident Entertainment, Esteem Building Technology, DJ Projects, Ziyan Hills Golf, and Confident Residential Projects, as well as in his personal capacity.

However, the petition was withdrawn within two days, on December 20. Investigators are now examining the sequence of events as part of the ongoing probe into the businessman’s death.

The Confident Group chairman, shot himself in the left side of the chest using an Austria-made pistol. The bullet pierced his heart and caused severe internal injuries, the autopsy revealed.
The death by suicide of Confident Group chairman CJ Roy has placed the Karnataka government under scrutiny during the course of the investigation. Key questions have now emerged over how far the probe should go, particularly whether allegations made by Roy’s brother, CJ Babu, against income tax officials warrant action or need to be examined with caution.

Who Was Chiriankandath Joseph Roy?

Dr Chiriankandath Joseph Roy, founder and chairman of firm Confident Group, shot himself dead on Friday afternoon when he was being questioned by income tax officials. During the questioning at his Bengaluru office, Roy reportedly went to another cabin and killed himself using his licensed gun.
Bengaluru Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said that Income Tax Searches had been underway in Bengaluru for the past three days.CJ, who was in his late 50s, suffered bullet injuries from his licensed firearm at his office near Richmond Circle in the city.
Soon after a gunshot was heard, staff members rushed to his room and found him lying in a pool of blood, sources said. He was immediately taken to a hospital, where doctors declared him dead. I-T sources said searches on Roy's premises had begun about two months ago.

‘Forced Into Car or Gave a Lift?' Bengaluru YouTuber Arrested as Teen Alleges Misconduct - What Happened?

A 38-year-old YouTuber from Tumakuru was arrested for allegedly abducting a 17-year-old girl in Ramanagara on January 1. The minor was rescued after alerting her family using the accused’s phone, police said.

A 38-year-old YouTuber from Tumakuru was arrested for allegedly forcing a 17-year-old girl into his car and trying to misbehave with her in Ramanagara, Bengaluru South District, in the early hours of January 1, according to a TOI report.

The police said that they have yet to record a detailed statement from the minor girl. Further, the teenage girl's family also gave confusing details, according to an investigating officer.

What the Girl's Father Said?

The girl's father, in her complaint, said that his daughter was walking home alone from her aunt's home around 2 am after a New Year's Eve get-together when the man stopped his car and asked about a farmhouse party.

"My daughter refused to answer. He dragged her inside and misbehaved. Another man was in the car. They drove some distance and parked. The two men consumed alcohol, and then the friend left, but the accused continued driving with my daughter," the father alleged.

He further said, "She noticed his phone in the car and used it to call her brother. We rushed to the spot and found the car rammed into a shop door. We rescued her."

What Did the YouTuber Say?

Contrary to the father's statements, the man denied the charges, saying, "I was driving back to Tumakuru after finishing the job of shooting the New Year celebrations at a farmhouse."
"The girl requested a lift, saying someone was waiting for her a little distance away. After getting into the car, she asked for my mobile phone and called her brother. When her father and brother reached the spot, she suddenly blamed me for forcing her inside the car and misbehaving," he claimed.
Following this, the girl's family filed a police complaint against the YouTuber and his friend, who was in the car.
The accused was held in one-day police custody before being sent to judicial remand at Ramanagara district prison and booked under multiple sections of the POCSO Act.

Family Called Friend, Who Lied to Them

Davinder’s cousin Hemraj told The Times of India that the family believed Davinder had gone to meet his close friend Shera on the day he went missing. To find out more, they called Shera and asked if he had seen Davinder. Shera told them that Davinder had come to his house to borrow his bike, but he refused to lend it. According to Shera, Davinder stayed for a few minutes and then left. At first, the family trusted Shera’s version of events.
However, later they decided to verify his claims. When they went to Shera’s house, they found it locked. They then checked CCTV footage from cameras installed near the house. The footage showed Davinder entering Shera’s house around 2:45 pm, but he was never seen coming out.

Accused Couple Took Several Suspicious Bike Rides After Midnight

Hemraj further said that the CCTV footage showed something suspicious later that night. Around midnight, Shera and his wife were seen carrying a white drum out of the house. After a few minutes, they returned without the drum. After this, they were seen making two to three trips on a bike.
Speaking about the possible motive behind the crime, Hemraj said that Shera worked as a carpenter but was also allegedly involved in drug peddling. Davinder would sometimes consume drugs as well. Hemraj suggested that there could have been a dispute between them related to drugs or money. He added that the exact reason would become clear only after the police arrest the accused and complete their investigation.

‘Achieved Something’: Blinkit Delivery Agent Refuses Poison Delivery to Crying Woman, Explains Why; Video

A Blinkit delivery executive refused to deliver rat poison to a distressed woman in Tamil Nadu, suspecting suicide, counselled her instead, and was widely praised online for his humane intervention.

Tamil Nadu Delivery Guy: A video circulating on social media shows a self-claimed delivery executive saying he refused to deliver three packets of rat poison to a distressed woman in Tamil Nadu, suspecting she might use them to harm herself. According to the video, the order was placed after midnight. During a phone call, the delivery executive reportedly heard the woman crying, which raised his concern that the poison might be intended for suicide rather than to kill rodents.

In a self-recorded video posted on an Instagram account named 'dilli rider', the delivery executive said he became worried after hearing the woman cry. He initially told her that her parcel had been misplaced, but after reaching her house, he confronted her directly. He said he tried to calm her down and urged her not to consider suicide, regardless of the problem she was facing. As per the Instagram post, the delivery executive appears to be associated with quick-commerce company Blinkit.

What Happened?

The woman denied the suspicion, but the delivery executive remained firm in his decision not to hand over the poison. He argued that if there had been a genuine rat problem, the order could have been placed earlier in the day or the following morning, rather than late at night.

"But after reaching the customer location, I told them that they missed the order on the way. I told them not to cry like that. After that, I went to them and told them that no matter what the problem is, don't take it as suicide. I told them that they placed the order for suicide. They told me that they placed the order for suicide. I told them that they are not lying."

Following a detailed conversation, the woman eventually cancelled the order. “Today, I can say this openly. Today, I feel that I have achieved something,” the delivery executive said.

'Cut Her Lips Off, Tried To Assault': Class 12 Student in UP's Mainpuri Attacks Teacher With Sharp Weapon | VIDEO

A Class 12 student in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri allegedly assaulted his teacher and cut her lips off while she was walking on the road. The boy tried to force himself on the woman and was later attacked with a sharp object.

In a disturbing incident, a class 12 student allegedly attacked and harassed a female teacher in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri, sending shockwaves across the city. The incident happened in broad daylight when the teenager brutally attacked and cut her lips off, leaving her bleeding on the street. The boy tried to force himself on the school teacher before attacking her with a sharp-edged weapon.
After the incident, an FIR has been lodged based on the complaint given by the teacher. The accused immediately fled the scene after attacking the teacher. The police has began the manhunt to nab the student, saying that this is not the first time he harassed the teacher, as he was involved in such activities in the past too.

What the Woman's Brother Said In Complaint?

The teacher's brother alleged that the class 12 student started engaging in undesirable behavior with his sister, adding that when his sister complained about this to his mother during a P.T.M. (Parent-Teacher Meeting) at the school, he again harassed her a few days later by blocking her way and "engaging in indecent and obscene behavior", according to the FIR.

Distressed by this, my sister left her teaching job at the school midway and started teaching at another school in the city. Even then, the student, intoxicated by his power and influence, continued to harass my sister by blocking her way to and from the school. Surrounding the petitioner's sister, making obscene gestures and threatening her with physical assault to force her into sexual relations."

On January 26, the teacher was going somewhere at approximately 5:30 PM, when the accused, who was already present with illegal weapons, grabbed the woman with "malicious intent, making obscene gestures and dragging her into the street."

The complaint added, "When my sister refused to succumb to the immoral pressure exerted by the accused Pradeep for sexual relations, Pradeep tried to touch her lips with his mouth. Later, he attacked her face with a sharp weapon, causing the upper and lower lips of the petitioner's sister to be severed from her face. This resulted in permanent disfigurement for my sister."
After the incident, the woman called her cousin, but by the time, some unknown people had taken her to the district hospital for treatment. She was then referred to Safdarjung Medical College. "Since a plastic surgeon was not available there at that time, she was admitted to Pushpanjali Hospital, Agra, for immediate treatment," according to the complaint.

Kanpur Shocker: How Wife's Same-Sex Affair Led to Rs 60,000 Murder Plot for Her Husband

A Kanpur woman and her female partner allegedly hired hitmen to strangle and slit her husband’s throat for Rs 60,000, police recover phones and rope used in the murder plot.

A chilling murder conspiracy from Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur has drawn attention of police where a woman along with her female partner, allegedly hired contract killers to murder her husband in Fatehpur’s Asothar police station area. The case came to light after the victim’s body was found in a pigeon pea field, exposing a carefully planned plot driven by a secret relationship and months of covert communication.

A Secret Relationship

On January 14, locals in Teekar village alerted police after discovering a man’s body lying in a field. A murder case was registered, and investigators began piecing together the victim’s final movements. As the probe progressed, suspicion turned inward toward the victim’s family. Police soon uncovered that the deceased’s wife had been in a homosexual relationship with another woman.

According to investigators, the accused's partner frequently visited the victim’s house to meet his wife. “The accused’s partner often visited the victim’s house to meet his wife. When their family learnt about the relationship, they stopped their meeting,” said SP Anoop Singh. The restriction, police said, did not end the relationship but pushed it underground.

After being stopped by family members, the two women allegedly began communicating secretly using a keypad mobile phone. Police said that during these conversations, a conspiracy was hatched to eliminate the husband. Investigators found that the accused contacted a contract killer and fixed the deal at Rs 60,000, paying an advance of Rs 8,000.

Strangled and Stabbed

On the day of the murder, police said the victim went to the field as usual, unaware that assailants were waiting. As soon as he arrived, the contract killer and two aides allegedly strangled him with a rope and later slit his throat with a knife, leaving his body in the field.
During interrogation, the victim’s wife allegedly confessed to her role in the crime. Police arrested her, her partner, and an associate, while the contract killer and another accomplice remain absconding. “Several police teams have been formed to arrest the absconding accused,” SP Anoop Singh said.
Investigators recovered three mobile phones used for planning and secret conversations, along with the rope allegedly used in the murder.

Saurabh was killed on the night of March 4 at his house in Indiranagar in Meerut district. Muskan and her alleged lover Sahil Shukla are accused of drugging him and stabbing him to death.
It is alleged that they dismembered Saurabh's body, severing his head and hands, and hid the body parts in a blue drum filled with cement.
After the incident, both of them went to Himachal Pradesh.
The investigation into the sensational case revealed that Muskan had allegedly been planning the murder since November 2023, according to the police.

Why Did Muskan Killed Saurabh

Saurabh was killed "not because of tantra-mantra, but because he was an obstacle in their love affair," the police claimed.
Muskan was arrested along with Sahil on March 18. Earlier, Muskan "confessed" to her family before she and Sahil were arrested.
Police sources said that according to the initial plan, the two accused wanted to pack the body in a suitcase and throw it away. A piece of bone was also found in the suitcase.

No Proof, No Witness - Just a Torn Piece of Paper: How a Dog Cracked 70-Year-Old's Murder

A crumpled piece of paper and a sniffer dog helped police crack the murder of a 70-year-old farmer in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind, exposing a deadly land dispute involving his own family.

For two months, the brutal murder of 70-year-old Shivnarayan Kaurav cast a long shadow over Gangepura village in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind district. Found dead in his field with his throat slit, Shivnarayan left behind no eyewitnesses, no clear suspects, and a chilling silence that gripped the community.
The case as per reports reports, appeared cold, until a crumpled piece of paper and a sniffer dog reopened the trail.

Police, as per a report by NDTV, have now arrested three men: Shivnarayan’s nephew Shivratan Kaurav, his grandson Mahendra Kaurav, and a villager, Badam Singh. An axe and an iron rod used in the killing have also been recovered based on their confessions.

A Family Betrayal

According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer Praveen Tripathi, the murder stemmed from a bitter dispute over nearly 50 bighas of ancestral land. After the death of Shivnarayan’s sister, her husband filed a court case claiming her share. Shivnarayan supported the claim and even testified in court, a move that allegedly sealed his fate.

Police said Shivratan and Mahendra had occupied the disputed land and were enraged by Shivnarayan’s stance. They allegedly conspired with Badam Singh to eliminate him.

On the night of November 14–15, Shivnarayan was sleeping in his field, guarding his crops, when the attackers struck. His throat was slit with an axe, killing him on the spot. By morning, the village woke up to a crime that seemed perfectly executed.

The Clue - a Torn Paper

During the initial probe, as per the report by NDTV, investigators found a small, torn piece of paper near the body, its scribbled names barely legible. The clue appeared insignificant, but police preserved it. When a dog squad was deployed, the sniffer dog was made to smell the paper.
It led straight to Badam Singh’s house.

Suspicion from villagers and family members further tightened the net. Badam Singh initially tried to mislead investigators, but sustained questioning broke him. He revealed the plot and named the nephew and grandson as co-conspirators.
Confronted with the evidence, Shivratan and Mahendra also confessed. The murder weapons were recovered based on their statements.
All three accused have been produced before a court and sent to police remand. Further investigation is underway to reconstruct the crime and rule out additional involvement.
What began as a family land dispute ended in a cold-blooded killing and what looked like a perfect crime unraveled because of a forgotten scrap of paper and a dog that followed its scent.
In Gangepura, the fields are quiet again. But the truth, long buried, has finally surfaced.

Ludhiana: Monetary dispute behind Bhora murder, couple held

During the investigation, cops obtained CCTV footage showing Shamsher and his wife Kuldeep Kaur transporting the same white drum

A day after the dismembered body of a 30-year-old man was found in six pieces, the police arrested his friend and latter’s wife for the cold-blooded murder. According to the accused, the man had died during a scuffle over a dispute over money. To dispose of the body, they cut it into several pieces using a saw. The accused told cops that it took him two and a half hours to cut the body in six parts.

Officials said one hand of the victim is yet to be recovered. It is suspected that some stray animal could have eaten it. However, teams have been deputed to trace the missing hand.

Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP, city 1) Sameer Verma said the murder took place on the afternoon of January 6 at the house of the prime accused, Shamsher Singh alias Shera, a carpenter, following a heated argument under the influence of drugs. Davinder Singh, a resident of Bhora village, who worked in Mumbai, had arrived in Ludhiana earlier that day to purchase digital printing machines.

The ADCP added that Davinder reached Ludhiana by train and called Shamsher to pick him up from the railway station. “Shamsher dropped him at his house with luggage around 2.15 pm. About 15 minutes later, Davinder left, telling his family he would return shortly. After that, his phone went unreachable,” Verma said.

When Davinder failed to return, his family lodged a missing complaint. The mystery deepened on Thursday when the police recovered his dismembered body from a vacant area near the Jalandhar Bypass. While his severed head was found stuffed inside a white plastic drum, the remaining body parts were recovered nearly a kilometre away.

During the investigation, cops obtained CCTV footage showing Shamsher and his wife Kuldeep Kaur transporting the same white drum. Both were tracked down and arrested near the grain market on Friday. During interrogation, they confessed, the police said.

According to the ADCP, Shamsher informed that he and Davinder consumed “chitta” (heroin) together at his house. “Both were intoxicated and got into an argument over an old monetary dispute. Davinder had borrowed some money from Shamsher and was not returning it. In a fit of rage, Shamsher pushed him. Davinder fell and lost consciousness following which Shamsher assumed that he had dead,” the officer said.

Believing Davinder to be lifeless, Shamsher allegedly used a saw to chop the body into pieces. At the time of the incident, his wife Kuldeep Kaur, a domestic help, was reportedly at work, while their two minor children were playing on the rooftop. “When Kuldeep returned home, the couple initially planned to burn the body but failed. They then decided to dump the remains at different locations and clean the house,” Verma added.

The police said Kuldeep Kaur later assisted her husband in disposing of the body and erasing evidence, leading to her arrest as well. A murder case has been registered against both accused.

Police Warn Of Rising Online Trading Scams

Sajjanar said fraudsters lure victims through social media, Telegram, or WhatsApp groups, promising high returns in cryptocurrency, forex, or stock trading. They use fake websites, dashboards, and apps to show false profits and convince victims to invest more.

Hyderabad: City police commissioner V. C. Sajjanar on Tuesday warned citizens about the alarming rise in online trading and investment scams, citing the case of retired IPS officer Amar Singh Chahal, who ended his life after losing ₹8.10 crore in a WhatsApp-based fraud. Sajjanar said fraudsters lure victims through social media, Telegram, or WhatsApp groups, promising high returns in cryptocurrency, forex, or stock trading. They use fake websites, dashboards, and apps to show false profits and convince victims to invest more.

“Citizens must avoid unverified platforms and never trust online profit guarantees,” Sajjanar cautioned. Explaining the modus operandi, he said scammers typically begin with unsolicited messages posing as investment advisors. Victims are asked to make small initial investments, show fake profits, and then persuade victims to invest large sums. DCP cybercrime V. Arvind Babu said victims eventually realise the fraud and are advised to report incidents via the National Cyber Crime Helpline (1930) or cybercrime.gov.in..

I'm Indian: Tripura students last words before he wa skilled in a racial attack, protests erupt seeking justice:

DEHRADUN: A 24-year-old MBA student from Tripura, who confronted a group of men hurling racial slurs at him and his younger brother, died in a Dehradun hospital on Friday after fighting for his life for over 14 days. The stabbing happened on Dec 9, minutes after Anjel Chakma said, "We are not Chinese... We are Indians. What certificate should we show to prove that?" The six men allegedly responded with brutal violence.

What began as a regular grocery run to the local market in the Selaqui area of Uttarakhand's capital city turned into
fatal confrontation that evening.

Anjel and his brother Michael, both students in Dehradun for over a year, were stopped and taunted by a group of men who allegedly referred to them in derogatory terms. When Anjel calmly stood his ground, the situation turned uglier.

Michael would later tell police and friends how his brother calmly but firmly corrected them. That assertion, of identity
and dignity, was met with knives. "Soon after Anjel replied, they attacked him and his brother while hurling abuses," said a friend of Anjel's, who remained at the hospital through the two weeks that followed. "Anjel suffered serious injuries to his neck and spine.

Michael is also injured and still in a serious condition.

The friend requested anonymity, but his voice carried anger and disbelief. "He was one of the calmest, friendliest
people. We're all broken by what happened." Anjel's body was flown to Agartala on Saturday, as Tripura erupted
in anger. His family was assisted by Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, chairman of Tipra Motha Party and a member
of the erstwhile Tripura royal family, who had been in touch with the family since the day of the incident and had supported his medical treatment.

Speaking to TOI, Debbarma said on Saturday, "It's tragic that the patriotic people of the northeast are called Chinese and attacked. Those who hurl racist slurs forget that it is because of the brave people of the northeast that China cannot enter the country. These incidents don't just hurt families. They divide our people. And when we are divided, we are vulnerable. We don't want that. We want Justice.

Suraj Debbarma, state president of Youth Tipra Federation, the youth wing of Tipra Motha, who helped coordinate Anjel's last rites, said: "People from the northeast face racial slurs and xenophobic attacks in the north regularly. But
when students from north Indian states come to central institutions in the northeast, they are welcomed like fellow countrymen. We lost an innocent soul in a hate crime. That's the tradegy.

Police said the case was registered on Dec 12 on a complaint filed by Michael Chakma, 21. Five of the six accused - including two juveniles - were apprehended on Dec 14.

Senior sub-inspector Jitendra Kumar of Selaqui police station said on Sunday, "Yagya Awasthi, the main accused, is suspected to have fled to Nepal... Two police teams have been dispatched to track him down and nab him, and a reward of Rs 25,000 has been announced. After Anjel's death, we added added additional BNS sections - 103(1) (murder) and 3(5) (committing crime with common intention)."

Initially, the FIR was filed under BNS sections 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 118 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), and 351(3) (criminal intimidation). On Dec 14, based on doctors' statements, sections 109
(attempt to murder) and 61 (criminal conspiracy) were added.

The charges were upgraded again after Anjel's death. Friends recalled how Anjel, in his final days, struggled but never regained full consciousness. Protests have begun in colleges, in the northeast, demanding a national law against racial hate crimes. In Dehradun, too, student organisations are begginning to speak up.

Why THIS Delhi Bridge Is Under Armed Guard Watch? Here's What Triggered the Security Alert

Delhi has stepped up security at the Signature Bridge after a rise in theft and vandalism. Authorities will deploy one armed guard at night and two unarmed guards during the day to protect infrastructure and ensure the safety of existing security personnel.

Delhi has tightened security at the northeast Signature Bridge and has decided to deploy armed security personnel to prevent theft and vandalism of its infrastructure, according to the officials, PTI reported. This comes as incidents of theft saw a sharp rise at the bridge.

Here's The Plan For Signature Bridge's Security

The PWD officials told PTI news agency that one armed guard will be posted primarily during night hours, when major incidents happen. Moreover, two additional unarmed guards will be deployed during the day.

"There have been several incidents, including theft, happening at the bridge. Sometimes the thieves attacked our guards with knives. Hence, we plan to deploy one guard with a gun at night for safety purposes," a senior PWD official told PTI.

Two guards without guns will also be deployed during the daytime, the official added.

About Delhi's Signature Bridge

The first asymmetrical bridge in Delhi was opened for public use in 2018. Built by the tourism department at a cost of more than Rs 1,500 crore, the bridge has been in the news for suicide incidents, most recently in July last year, by a Delhi University student.
The maintenance of the bridge is maintained by the PWD following a request by the tourism department, citing a lack of funds.
The PWD has issued a tender of Rs 1.5 crore under the annual maintenance head to deploy the security guards in eight-hour shifts. They must not be above the age of 55 years and must speak English and Hindi.
The bridge connects Outer Ring Road with other areas in Wazirabad, Karawal Nagar, and Bhajanpura and provides connectivity to Grand Trunk Road, Shahdara flyover, and further towards Ghaziabad and ITO.

Ghaziabad ‘Human Sacrifice’: Three Men Kill Friend, Burn Body in Greed-Fuelled Murder

Three men in Ghaziabad allegedly killed their friend in a ritual “human sacrifice,” burnt his body inside an auto-rickshaw, and confessed to the crime; police arrested two accused while one remains absconding.

Ghaziabad ‘Human Sacrifice’: A horrific crime has come to light in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, where a group of friends allegedly killed one of their own and set his body on fire to destroy evidence. Police have arrested two of the accused, who confessed to committing the murder as part of a so-called “human sacrifice.” A third accomplice is currently absconding, and a search operation is under way.
The case surfaced after the victim’s brother filed a complaint at the Tronica City police station when he failed to trace him. Police later identified the deceased as Naveen, also known as Nandu, a resident of Milk Vikas Nagar in Loni. His body was found burnt inside a battery-operated auto-rickshaw, reported The Times of India.

Following the complaint, police registered a case and launched an investigation. Officers scanned CCTV footage from nearby areas and used local intelligence to identify the suspects. Two men were arrested on Saturday.

The arrested accused are Pawan (25) and Sagar (24), also known as Pandit, both residents of Nishant Colony in Ghaziabad. The third accused, Naseem, also known as Iqbal, remains on the run.
During interrogation, the accused told police that Naveen was their friend and that they had taken him to Delhi to meet a tantrik. According to police, the tantrik claimed that performing a human sacrifice could bring wealth and divine blessings. The accused further said that Naveen had asked whether the sacrifice could involve a friend.
Police said these conversations influenced the accused, who later conspired to kill Naveen. On the night of January 13, the group gathered at Sagar’s room and consumed alcohol. They then attacked Naveen with a gas cylinder, killing him on the spot.
To destroy evidence, the accused wrapped the body in a blanket, placed it inside a battery-operated auto-rickshaw, and set the vehicle on fire.
Police recovered the auto-rickshaw and the gas cylinder used in the crime from the accused. Officials said both arrested men have previous criminal records, including cases of murder, robbery, theft, and violations under the Arms Act.
Further investigation is ongoing, and police said efforts are being intensified to arrest the absconding accused.

'They Kept Giving Excuses': How a Delivery Agent Risked His Life to Save Noida Techie Trapped in Sinking Car

A Flipkart delivery agent risked his life to rescue a trapped software engineer whose car plunged into a water-filled construction pit in Noida, but the techie died amid alleged safety lapses.

Moninder, a Flipkart delivery agent, was among the first to respond when he heard desperate screams coming from a water-filled construction pit on a foggy Friday night in Noida. What he witnessed would haunt him. Inside a sinking car, a young software engineer was struggling for breath, holding a torch and pleading for help.
Moninder did what trained responders hesitated to do. He tied a rope around his waist and jumped into the dark, 70-foot-deep ditch in a last-ditch attempt to save a life.

A Drowning Cry

The victim was Yuvraj Mehta, a 27-year-old software engineer who was returning home from work when his car plunged into the flooded basement of an under-construction mall near Sector 150. Dense fog and near-zero visibility caused the vehicle to lose control at a road turn. The construction site reportedly had no barricades, warning signs or lighting, turning the stretch into a deadly trap for commuters.

Passersby gathered after hearing Mehta’s cries, but the car was already being swallowed by water. Trapped inside, Mehta managed to call his father, Rajkumar Mehta, in what would become his final conversation.

“Dad, I've fallen into a deep pit filled with water. I'm drowning. Please come and save me. I don't want to die,” he said before the call cut off.

All Set, But No Action

Police, divers and teams from the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) soon arrived and began a rescue operation that would stretch for nearly five hours. Mehta’s father also reached the spot as rescuers worked through the night.
Speaking to Times Now, Moninder said fire brigade personnel were reluctant to enter the pit in the dark. “The fire brigade kept giving excuses; the boy was alive then for almost two hours. Even the car had not drowned. The fire brigade, despite having a boat and life jackets, including a crane. How can they not save him?,” he said.
Realising that Mehta was running out of time, Moninder took matters into his own hands. Despite his effort, the young engineer had already succumbed by the time he reached the car.

"I spent almost 30 minutes in the water, but no sign of him. When his voice stopped, I thought he could have fallen unconscious," Moninder added, stressing that the fire brigade is to be blamed for this.
Moninder also alleged that authorities had ignored earlier warning signs. He said a truck had fallen into the same ditch around 10 days earlier, yet no safety measures were put in place.
The car was eventually pulled out of the water, and Mehta was declared dead. His family later filed a complaint, accusing authorities of negligence for failing to install reflectors or secure open drains along the service road. Knowledge Park Police Station in-charge Sarvesh Kumar said the matter is under investigation and legal action will follow if negligence is established.

311 Endangered Turtles Seized From AC First-Class Coach In Bhopal

The 311 turtles were recovered from coach attendant Ajay Singh Rajput, who was allegedly working as a courier for the syndicate.

The plush privacy of AC First-Class coaches long considered the most secure and elite travel space on Indian Railways has now been exposed as an unlikely corridor for wildlife crime. An inter-state racket has been using these luxury compartments to smuggle rare and endangered turtles from Uttar Pradesh to Madhya Pradesh, before distributing them across western India.

In a major breakthrough, the Madhya Pradesh State Tiger Strike Force (STSF), in a joint operation with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) and the Bhopal Forest Division, seized 311 rare and endangered turtles from the AC First-Class coach of the 19322 Patna-Indore Express at Sant Hirdaram railway station in Bhopal.

Investigators revealed that the racket sourced turtles from the rivers of Uttar Pradesh, primarily the Ganga and Gomti and their tributaries and transported them concealed inside AC First-Class coaches to Madhya Pradesh. The smuggling operation allegedly used the services of coach attendants to stash the turtles during transit.

The 311 turtles were recovered from coach attendant Ajay Singh Rajput, who was allegedly working as a courier for the syndicate. Among the rescued species were endangered Crowned River Turtles, Indian Tent Turtles, and Indian Roofed Turtles, all protected under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Wildlife officials described the scene as disturbing. The turtles were packed in suffocating conditions, many dehydrated and stressed after long hours of concealment.

Further investigation led the STSF to Uttar Pradesh's capital, Lucknow, where a 17-and-a-half-year-old teenager was taken into custody and later sent to a detention home in Bhopal. Officials say the minor was part of a larger river-based poaching network operating in districts including Lucknow, Kanpur, Unnao, Sultanpur and Amethi.

According to investigators, local poachers extracted turtles from riverbanks and wetlands before routing them through railway channels into Madhya Pradesh. The consignment was allegedly controlled by a kingpin operating from Dewas district in western Madhya Pradesh.

That kingpin, identified as Asif Khan, managed to evade arrest for several days before being arrested from Dewas city on February 10. He has been remanded for interrogation, and officials believe his questioning could unravel deeper layers of the syndicate including financiers and interstate distributors supplying clients in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.

Sources in the STSF indicate that this racket has been operational for several years. The method exploiting train routes and insider access within premium compartments suggests meticulous planning and insider coordination.

This is not the first time railway routes have been used for wildlife smuggling.

In October 2023, during an all-India crackdown codenamed "Operation Kachchhap," the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) rescued 955 live baby Gangetic turtles in simultaneous raids across Nagpur, Bhopal, and Chennai, leading to six arrests. At that time, turtles were recovered from trains passing through Itarsi and Nagpur.

Even earlier, the Madhya Pradesh Tiger Strike Force had arrested a gang smuggling rare turtles through the Yeshwantpur Express. Since then, suspicion had grown that a larger interstate syndicate was active, a suspicion that now appears confirmed.

Investigations into similar wildlife cases have previously revealed international links. Agencies have uncovered plans to traffic turtles to markets in China, Hong Kong, Myanmar, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, and Bangladesh, where demand for exotic pets, meat, and traditional medicine fuels illegal trade.

In a landmark 2021 judgment, a special court in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh, sentenced 13 poachers linked to an international syndicate to seven years' imprisonment for trafficking pangolins and turtles, sending a strong signal against wildlife crime.

Under the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, capturing, smuggling or trading protected turtle species can attract imprisonment up to seven years and a minimum fine of Rs 25,000. Many of the species seized in the recent bust including the Indian Tent Turtle and Red Crown Roofed Turtle are native to the Ganges and Chambal ecosystems and are already under severe ecological stress due to illegal sand mining and riverbank destruction.

Wildlife experts warn that removal of turtles disrupts aquatic ecosystems. As natural scavengers, turtles play a vital role in maintaining river health.

For Rs 1 Lakh: Odisha Man Sells Toddler to West Bengal Doctor; Baby Rescued, Middleman Arrested

Odisha police rescued a two-and-a-half-year-old boy sold by his father to a West Bengal doctor for Rs 1 lakh, with both father and buyer detained.

Odisha police on Friday (February 13) rescued a two-and-a-half-year-old boy who was sold by his father to a man for Rs 1 lakh. The child was rescued following a complaintby a social worker, who got to know of the incident via a video. Rakesh Kumar Behera, a resident of Barisahi area under the Nilgiri police station in Balasore, sold his two-and-a-half-year-old son to a doctor in West Bengal through a middleman.
Officials said the accused father and the buyer have been detained. The incident came to light after a viral video showed the father bargaining with a potential buyer. Following this, a local social worker filed a complaint at the Nilgiris police station.

According to the complaint, Behera, a mason, allegedly sold the child to a doctor in West Bengal through a middleman in a deal for Rs 1 lakh, and the father received Rs 50,000 as an advance payment.

Nilgiri SDPO Pramod Nayak said that, the child's mother lives elsewhere and the father is addicted to drugs, so he gave the child to someone else to raise. According o reports, the father took the step due to financial distress.

The Child was rescued by police from West Bengal and will be now handed over to the Central Wildlife Protection Commission (CWC). SDPO Nayak added that legal action will be taken once evidence of the child's sale is established.
The case comes months after a month-old baby boy was allegedly sold by his parents for Rs 50,000 due to poverty, but was rescued by Jharkhand Police.
While the child’s mother had denied selling her baby, according to news reports, the woman, a mother of four, handed over her son to her sister-in-law a week after his birth on August 9. The Child Welfare Committee (CWC) said it had “rescued” the baby after taking cognizance of media reports.

UP Horror: Man Bludgeons Mother and Wife to Death in Kushinagar, Chews Flesh Before Villagers

A labourer in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar brutally killed his mother and wife in a shocking rooftop attack, prompting a double murder case and a probe into his mental health.

A quiet village in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar woke up to unimaginable horror on Monday morning when a domestic dispute spiralled into a crime so brutal that it left everyone shaken.

The incident took place in Parsa village under the limits of the Ahirauli police station, where a 30-year-old man allegedly killed his mother and wife on the rooftop of their home as villagers watched in disbelief, a report by Times of India stated. The accused, identified as Sikandar Gupta, was arrested at the spot after residents alerted the police.

According to villagers, as quoted by TOI report, the violence began with screams that echoed through the neighbourhood, prompting locals to rush towards the house. What they witnessed next triggered panic and chaos, with people retreating in fear as the situation escalated beyond comprehension. Police teams arrived soon after and took Sikandar into custody.

Victims Were Wife and Mother

Sikandar, a labourer who had been working in Mumbai, had returned to his village around a month ago. Residents alleged that he was addicted to alcohol and ganja and had a history of assaulting both his wife, Priyanka, 28, and his mother, Runa Devi, 60. They claimed he often threatened to kill them during arguments.

Police said the accused attacked both women on the rooftop using sticks and later inflicted fatal injuries using a cement brick. Both victims died on the spot. Investigators also said the bodies were severely mutilated following the killings, a detail that has added to the shock surrounding the case.
“A case of double murder was registered, and police are also examining the accused's mental condition as part of the investigation,” said Kushinagar superintendent of police Keshav Mishra as quoted by TOI.

Severe Psychological Disturbance

The disturbing nature of the crime has raised questions about the accused’s psychological state. Independent criminologist Ashok Srivastava, who studied at National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Gujarat, and assists state police forces as well as CBI, said such acts point to extreme mental disturbance.

“In cases like this, cannibalism is frequently planned and driven by a desire for total domination over the victim. The act creates a perverse sense of permanent possession, as the perpetrator believes the victim can never leave or escape,” Srivastava said as quoted by TOI.

He added, “By consuming the body, the offender reduces the victim to an object. It is an ultimate expression of power and control, often rooted in deep-seated frustration, feelings of inferiority and damaged self-esteem.”
Lucknow-based senior clinical psychologist and counsellor PK Khattri said the accused appeared to be suffering from psychosis, a severe mental health condition marked by hallucinations and delusions. He noted that the accused was highly agitated and unwilling to communicate, pointing to a deeply disturbed mental state.

The investigation is ongoing as police await further medical and forensic reports to piece together what led to one of the most chilling crimes the district has seen in recent years.

Indian envoy dismisses Canada's allegations on Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing

India, which had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020, had strongly rejected the allegations as “absurd” and “motivated.”

Ottawa: Indian High Commissioner Dinesh K Patnaik has dismissed Canada's allegations linking New Delhi to the killing of a Sikh separatist leader, asserting that the case is against four individuals and not against the government of India.

In an interview with CBC News on Tuesday, Patnaik also pointed out how the investigation into the Air India bombing has still not yielded anything and not a single person has been convicted of it, despite New Delhi talking about terrorism in Canada for the last 40 years.

The remarks by Patnaik, who took charge in September 2025, coincided with British Columbia Premier David Eby's visit to India on a trade mission amid the improving relationship between New Delhi and Ottawa.

The ties between India and Canada strained after the then-prime minister Justin Trudeau's allegations in September 2023 of a “potential” involvement of Indian agents in Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing outside a gurdwara in Surrey city on June 18 that year.

India, which had designated Nijjar as a terrorist in 2020, had strongly rejected the allegations as “absurd” and “motivated.”

Patnaik was asked how the two countries move past the 'gap' of more than a year after Trudeau's accusation.

“Well, where is the evidence? Every time you keep on saying credible information, which is fine,” Patnaik said.

“We have always said, it's preposterous and absurd. It's something we don't do. These allegations … have not been backed by evidence. There's always … (it is) easy to make accusations,” the Indian diplomat said.

Patnaik also pointed out how the investigation into the Air India bombing (of June 1985) has still not yielded anything. “Nothing has happened on the ground. We've been talking about terrorism in Canada for the last 40 years. What has anybody done about it? Not a single person has been convicted of it,” he said.

The case in connection with Nijjar's death is against four individuals, he said, “You have a case going on in Surrey, which says very clearly against four individuals. There is no case against the government of India. The government of India does not do such actions ... never.”

India will take action if Canada provides evidence, he said, adding, “What we need is for you to give us evidence, for us to take action.”

Patnaik repeated that Canada has only been providing information, but no evidence. He cited several examples of cases where prior information provided by India was not acted upon but later turned out to be true.

“When you accuse us, what happens here is ... my accusations need evidence, your accusations don't need evidence?" he said, and then went on to add: “When I accuse you, and you tell me, 'evidence is not enough', I agree with it. And I say, 'Yes, you are telling me evidence is not enough, when I find evidence, I'll give it to you'.”

“When you accuse me, and I tell you, ‘evidence is not enough’, please accept it with the same alacrity with which you have,” he added.

When the interviewer pressed on by saying, “It's about the activities of the state of India. It's about allegations about the Government of India,” Patnaik said the government of India never does something like that.

“If there are people in the government of India (who) have done it, and you give us evidence, we will take action against them. We have never said otherwise,” he added.

Woman software employee murdered by ex-husband in Hyderabad

The victim's husband in a complaint stated that his wife was three months pregnant.

A 29-year-old woman software employee was allegedly killed by her former husband at her house here on Wednesday, police said.

The victim's husband in a complaint stated that his wife was three months pregnant.

However, police said it was not confirmed so far as the post-mortem report is awaited.

The accused, in his 30s, who worked as a software employee in Canada earlier, barged into the victim's residence and after noticing her in a room locked it from inside and allegedly stabbed her multiple times on her head with a knife resulting in her instant death.

The woman's mother-in-law was in the verandah of the house at the time of the incident.

After being informed by her family members and neighbours, police reached the spot and found that the accused had poured petrol in the room, which he brought with him in a can, and had locked himself in the washroom.

He threatened to set off fire in the room with a lighter he was carrying and after being convinced by the police officials he came out of the washroom and was taken into custody, a police official said.

The couple got married in 2022 and mutually divorced in 2024. She had a second marriage in April 2025, police said.

Based on preliminary investigation, police said the accused bore grudge against his ex-wife as she filed domestic violence case against him.

Police said after their marriage in India, the accused went to Canada, and the deceased later joined him there.

"Some differences arose between the couple and after staying with him for five days she later returned to India and subsequently filed domestic violence case against him in Maharashtra," they said.

The accused came to India from Canada in March 2025 following the death of his mother, a police official said.

A Look-out Circular was issued against him because of the case and his passport was suspended and he was unable to go back to Canada since then and was presently residing in his native place in Peddapalli district of Telangana, without any work.

The accused felt that he and his family faced mental suffering due to the case. He also felt that his mother's death was due to the mental agony caused by the estranged wife, police said.

The accused developed a grudge against her and decided to eliminate her, police said. He managed to locate her residential address through her social media account and came to Hyderabad two months ago and stayed in a hostel.

He also "recceed" the victim's apartment recently.

As per his plan, he came to the apartment on Wednesday with a bag containing two knives, a drilling machine, a can containing five-liter petrol among other items.

CCTV footage broadcast by local TV channels showed the man carrying a bag and walking in the corridor of the apartment.
