I've been watching football for decade so I think I have a decent knowledge of the game. Ronaldo is a great great goalscorer BUT there's a big difference between a GOAT goalscorer and a GOAT footballer. Maybe it's me, perhaps it's nostalgia, I'm usually enthused by players that can take you to places where you can't believe what you are seeing and this Ronaldo has never been that for me.

However, you keep bringing up is goals - I guess that's what it's all about to most and I'll keep bringing up Pele's and Romario's goals that they scored in their back garden :murali

Football is about winning trophies . To be the GOAT you have to win the World Cup along with club honours. You have to do something so special you change history , do the unthinkable. Of course then you have to have the elite ability with ball & finally physical ability ,

Ronaldo & messi aren’t in the running atm. They are current modern greats so those who have little knowledge of history always choose one of these two .

Manadona, Pele & Zidane are top 3.

But Maradona is way ahead.

Ronaldo vs Messi is not even a debate. Messi has always been in a league of his own.

It is very simple - Both Ronaldo and Messi are elite among elites when it comes to scoring goals. However, while Ronaldo is a below average creator/playmaker, Messi is arguably the greatest playmaker/passer the game has ever seen.

You take Ronaldo’s goals out and he is not even among the top 100 players of all time but if you take Messi’s goals out, he is still top 5, if not the GOAT.

Messi vs Ronaldo is an artificial rivalry created by the media. They needed a rival for Messi and Ronaldo was the best option because he was matching Messi in terms of goal scoring numbers, but purely in terms of football, Messi has never had and probably never will have a rival.

To prefer one over the other is normal.

To say that it is not even a debate is being salty like you always have been on this forum.

Ronaldo is the better goalscorer, Messi is the better playmaker. These are facts.

Goalscoring is the most important and most difficult thing to do in a football game. Otherwise every second player would have Ronaldo's numbers.

Firstly, why would someone take out Ronaldo's goals ? You don't win a game without scoring and Ronaldo is quite easily the greatest and most complete goalscorer of all time.

Secondly, his insane goalscoring numbers have overshadowed his playmaking abilities. His dribbling, chance creating and passing stats since his debut are just below the likes of Messi, Hazard and Neymar. So the notion that he is nothing more than "just a goalscorer" is rubbish as well, even if every player would die to be "just a goalscorer" like Ronaldo.

Finally, the most underrated aspect of his greatness lies in his longevity and his ability to adapt to different leagues. How many 37 years old players have you seen scoring hattricks in the most competitive league in Europe ? Pelé, Maradona, Zidane, Cruyff, R9, Ronaldinho, etc... were all retired a long time before they could reach that age, and Messi is struggling to score 5 goals in the easiest and least competitive league in the world, at an age where Ronaldo was scoring 30 goals in Serie A.

So true and it's frustrating how people can't see it...90% of Clasicos were Messi absolutely obliterating Madrid's midfield and scoring for good measure, while Ronaldo lurking on the edge of the box, having Benzema and co. sacrificing their natural game and waiting for a cross or penalty to put in most of the time.

Fair enough BUT Messi kind of carried his team to a World Cup final and was 3 Higuain sitters away from winning it but sometimes the luck isn't there. I like your top 3 but it's unfortunate R9 had his injuries.

I don’t agree that Ronaldo is a better goal scorer. This isn’t backed up by any evidence. Messi has outscored him more often than not, and his goal to game ratio is superior as well.

Still, even if we agree for the sake of argument that Ronaldo is a better goal scorer, the gap between the two in terms of goal scoring ability is negligible but the gap between the two in terms of playmaking and creativity is gigantic.

If Ronaldo is 10 as a goal scorer Messi is at least 9.5 (he is also 10 but again, for the sake of argument), but Messi is at least twice the playmaker Ronaldo is.

He is simply a much more complete player.

His biggest mistake to return back to Old Trafford. If he wins the World Cup for Portugal he will be the GOAT in my books.

Ive never seen Utd fans celebrate a home win against the bottom team of the league with so much joy. :)))

I see what you mean and my personal favourite is Brazilian Ronaldo, but also you have to agree winning the WC is dependent on a multitude of factors and it’s a team sport after all, but despite that CR7 has won a highly reputable international trophy in a tournament full of so many former world champions and that’s a big feather in his cap, it may not have been the strongest Portugal side either. However, if his team made it to a WC final and he failed that should defo impact how he is perceived. He is in the conversation and he has a strong case due to his freakish performances but from his era, I’d say he is the GOAT without a doubt by a country mile imo

Losing a child must be the toughest pill to swallow for any human being. No parent deserves to see his/her kids dying before him/her.

Stay strong, GOAT.

Horrible, the worst nightmare a parent must have. Hopefully his family overcome this tragedy

Football fans have paid a moving tribute to Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo with loud applause during his return to the pitch following the death of his newborn son.

Saturday's match at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium was his first time back in action, and with seven minutes on the clock - the same number as the Portuguese star's shirt - supporters of both teams rose to their feet to applaud him.

He went on to score his 100th Premier League goal, during the 33rd minute of the game in north London.

Ronaldo had missed Tuesday's clash at Anfield between Liverpool and Man Utd but said he was moved by a minute's applause from supporters, also in the seventh minute.

Cristiano Ronaldo joins illustrious Premier League club with goal vs Arsenal

Cristiano Ronaldo has become the 33rd Premier League player to hit 100 goals after finding the net for Manchester United against Arsenal.

The 37-year-old moved to 99 strikes in the English top flight following his hat-trick against Norwich City at Old Trafford last weekend. He was then absent from the clash with Liverpool following the tragic news that he and partner Georgina Rodriguez had lost their baby son.

Ronaldo was in everyones thoughts on Merseyside, with all four sides of Anfield rising to applaud the Portuguese, with the Kop singing a spine-tingling rendition of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’.

And the forward was back in the United squad for Saturday’s trip to Arsenal for a game they must win to keep their slender top-four hopes alive. However, United got off to the worst possible start, finding themselves two goals down before the half-hour mark.

But with the game threatening to run away from the visitors, Ronaldo popped up in the box to bring United back in the game and in the process bring up his 100th goal.

Ronaldo looked destined to end his Premier League career with a tally of 84 goals from 196 games during the six seasons of his first stint at The Theatre of Dreams. But last summer, some 12 years after his departure, the footballing icon returned to the club, joining on a two-year deal from Juventus.

And although collectively it has been a desperate season for Manchester United, Ronaldo hasn’t lost his scoring touch and he is by far and away the club’s top scorer. In total he now has 16 league goals to add to the six he managed in just seven Champions League games.

And his latest sees him join an illustrious club of Premier League marksmen, which includes the likes of Alan Shearer, Wayne Rooney and Harry Kane. Ronaldo becomes the 11th player to have appeared for United reach the landmark and the first from any team since Liverpool striker Sadio Mane brought it up earlier this season.

His century of goals in 223 appearances in the Premier League, mean he has goals-per-game ratio of 0.45, which is slightly higher than his old team-mate Rooney at 0.42, but lower than the likes of Thierry Henry and Sergio Aguero, who achieved rates of 0.68 and 0.67 respectively.

Ronaldo, who is also the leading scorer in the history of men’s international football with 133 for Portugal, brought up the 60th hat-trick of his career during the win over the Canaries.

“Very happy with this win and for getting us back on track in the Premier League,” he posted shortly after the game.

“Like I said before, individual achievements are only worth it when they help us reach our goals as a team, and the 60th hat-trick in my career is so much more important because it brought us the 3 points.”

Some of the players around him should be hanging their heads in shame at their level of performance.

Ronaldo is at towards the end of his career yet has still outperformed most of the so-called superstars in the United squad.

Gary Neville and Roy Keane agree Cristiano Ronaldo can have part to play at Man Utd under Erik ten Hag

Gary Neville and Roy Keane both believe Cristiano Ronaldo's goalscoring feats can make up for faults in his defensive game at Man Utd under Erik ten Hag next season.

Ronaldo moved level with Heung-min Son in joint second in the Premier League goalscoring charts with his 17th of the season on Thursday, earning United a 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Thursday evening with what was his fifth strike in his last three games for the club.

The 37-year-old has scored eight of United's last nine goals, including match-winning hat-tricks against Tottenham and Norwich, in an emphatic response to criticism that came his way earlier in the season during a run of one goal in 10 games.

Neville and Keane both highlighted Ronaldo's ill fit for Ten Hag's high-pressing style, but said the five-time Ballon D'Or winner's sheer quality meant he should have a chance to see out the second of his two-year contract at Old Trafford.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, Neville said: "He lifts the fans, he gets them on the edge of their seats, takes his chances, and it'll be really interesting to see what happens with Erik Ten Hag.

"We knows he plays with an aggressive press, he tries to win the ball high up the pitch, that isn't Cristiano's strong point and we know that. But he will want a goalscorer. He will want someone who can put the ball in the back of the net 20 or 25 times.

"Can Manchester United use him as a bridge next season to get them through Erik Ten Hag's first season? Ronaldo is a phenomenon. He's achieved everything and more in the game, his professionalism is beyond anything you could ever wish for, really.

"He still continues - his persistence, his determination to score goals is absolutely incredible. You can't speak highly enough of him, his goal tonight was wonderful and he doesn't really lose that belief in himself when the rest of the team is really lacking in confidence - his is still there.

"He's a sensation, an absolute sensation. I talked about the attitude of the players in the first half and I wasn't really talking about him, he's proven over a long period of time and what he's doing, the shape of his body and the recovery from the tragedy only last week to still perform, to get back on the bike and go when he could've easily said he was staying off for a few weeks. In a poor season for United he's been a bright light in some ways."

Keane highlighted Ronaldo's mastery of "the hardest part of the game" - scoring goals: he has scored 20 times in 12 consecutive league seasons, with the possibility to make that 13 in the final three matches of this campaign.

And the former United captain said the bit-part defensive role some former strikers, including Eric Cantona and Ruud Van Nistelrooy, had played during his time at the club shows how Ten Hag could build a pressing team around Ronaldo during his first season at the helm.

Keane told Sky Sports: "I know people are quick to criticise what [Ronaldo] doesn't do, in terms of his pressing, but he was never great at that anyway. He's the greatest at the hardest part of the game - putting the ball in the back of the net.

"That was his only chance tonight. Look at the chances Chelsea were creating; imagine if he'd been in the Chelsea team - he'd probably get 50 goals.

"Ten Hag will be having a sleepless night watching the team, but if you've got a player in the group who can score that amount of goals, they have to be involved. He'll want to play week-in, week-out, the new manager will come in and will be looking for another striker but Ronaldo's not hanging around unless he's playing.

"That's his biggest challenge, working with these personalities. As brilliant as they are, he has to get a team who can compete. And if that's winning the ball back high and pressing, Ronaldo is not good at that. But I still think you can have him in your team and have other players who can do that.

"Cantona, Van Nistelrooy wouldn't be great at chasing the ball back for you, but we had enough lads in the team who could win it. People say you need all your players to press, but you can get away with it with one player, and as long as they're producing the goods you'll forgive them."

Ronaldo this season has been the difference between United possibly earning a place in the Europa League and being 13th/14th.

Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted he is "very happy" to remain at Old Trafford and believes Manchester United will rebound from a dreadful 2021/22 campaign under new manager Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo returned to United last summer, 12 years after originally leaving the club for Real Madrid, and netted 24 goals in 38 games to finish as the club's top scorer in all competitions.

But while it was a strong campaign in front of goal for the 37-year-old, it was an unimpressive one for the team, with United finishing sixth in the Premier League and failing to lift a trophy for the fifth successive season.

Ronaldo has played in the Champions League for 19 consecutive campaigns and United's failure to qualify for the competition has led to speculation the Portugal international could leave Old Trafford for a second time.

But speaking in an interview with the club, Ronaldo said: "I was happy, of course, to be back in a club that really raised my career, so it was unbelievable, the feeling when I came back again. It was nice to feel the supporters - the happiness of them was great.
"I was and still am very happy to be here, and what I have to say to the fans is they are amazing. Even when we lost games, they always support us, they always are with us. The supporters are always in my heart and it's the people that we all should respect because they are always on our side.

"For me, the most important thing is to try to win the games and try to win some championship or some cup but I believe that Manchester will be where they belong. As I say before, sometimes it takes time but I still believe."

United's underwhelming season came under the stewardship of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was sacked in November, and interim manager Ralf Rangnick, who exited the club at the end of the season despite previously agreeing to stay on as a consultant.

Dharmesh Sheth explains why Paul Pogba didn't sign a new contract at Manchester United and where his next destination could be
Ten Hag has stepped into the managerial void after leading Ajax to the Eredivisie title, and Ronaldo says the Dutchman should be given time to turn around United's fortunes.

"I know he did a fantastic job for Ajax and that he's an experienced coach but we need to give him time," said Ronaldo. "Things need to change the way he wants.

"I hope we have success of course because if you have success all of Manchester are going to have success as well. So I wish him the best.

"We are happy and excited, not only the players but the supporters as well. I wish him the best and let's believe that next year we're going to win trophies."

A rare bright spot for United this season was the performance of their U18 side, who won the FA Youth Cup last month for the first time in 11 years.

That success, plus a desire to pass on the lessons he has learned during 20 years as a professional, means Ronaldo is keen to see United's current crop of youngsters given opportunities to impress Ten Hag.

"I'm in favour that we should give opportunities to the young generation, of course, because they will be the future," explained Ronaldo. "But you have to help them as well to put it in the right spot, because the pressure is a lot to play in the Premier League, which I believe is the most difficult league in the world by far.

"You have to give them time, give them the opportunity, and let them grow in a normal way without pressure, but I think we should give opportunities to the young generation.

"They understand to achieve success you have to [make] sacrifices, hard work, ethic of work, dedication, but of course if the kids ask my advice I will give my opinion and advice because I want to help."

Cristiano Ronaldo has been crowned Manchester United's Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year in his first season back at the club.

In his first spell at United, Ronaldo won the coveted award in three campaigns - 2003/04, 2006/07 and 2007/08. After an impressive return to Old Trafford, fans have voted for the Portuguese icon to receive the trophy, now presented by @adidasfootball, for a record-equalling fourth time.

David De Gea is the only other Red to have claimed a quartet of Sir Matt Busby statuettes.

Supporters all around the world took part in the online poll across ManUtd.com and the Manchester United App - thanks to everyone who voted.

Our no.7 has enjoyed a clinical campaign, registering 24 goals in all competitions and defying anyone who doubted whether the 37-year-old could still perform in the cut and thrust of English football after his long stints in Spain and Italy.

The majority of Ronaldo's strikes - 18 - came in the Premier League, a tally that positioned him third behind only Mohamed Salah and Son Heung-min who shared the Golden Boot prize.

Cristiano has produced a number of match-winning displays for the Reds across the season, including his hat-tricks against Tottenham Hotspur and Norwich City, and his second debut against Newcastle United when he netted twice in front of the ecstatic Old Trafford crowd.

In addition to his domestic goalscoring exploits, the Portuguese striker bagged six Champions League goals, demonstrating once again his ability to deliver at the highest level of club football.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner is no stranger to individual honours, of course, and the annual award announced today was preceded by five Player of the Month accolades during the season.

Ronaldo topped our monthly polls in September and October, and then again in March, April and May.

He was also voted Man of the Match 10 times, with his Champions League winner against Atalanta and his April equaliser against Chelsea among his other noteworthy performances.

De Gea - our Players' Player of the Year - was the runner-up to Ronaldo for the Sir Matt Busby award, while resurgent midfielder Fred emerged in third place. Both candidates joined Cristiano in demonstrating impressive consistency across what was a difficult season for the team overall.

Despite their challenges, our no.7 was a convincing victor in the end, adding yet another entry to an already incredible long list of achievements.

Congratulations, Cristiano!

Seems that the United dressing room had too many big egos.

Reminds me of the Pakistan dressing room of yesteryear.

The new manager needs to get rid of the selfish players who did very little for the team.

Almost like a farewell tour, returning to the humble beginnings. Going back to United was very charitable of him. It would be interesting to see him at Roma.

The Manchester United star is currently enjoying a well-deserved holiday on the Balearic Island with his family following a gruelling season and additional Nations League fixtures with Portugal. However, his break has been disrupted after his £1.7million valued Bugatti Veyron was crashed into the entranceway of a house on Monday morning.

El Periodico Mediterraneo reports that the car was being driven by an employee of Ronaldo at the time of the collision. While the driver is understood not to have suffered any serious injuries, there is said to have been significant damage caused to the front of the vehicle.

Ronaldo has a penchant for luxury cars and his fleet — that contains a Ferrari 599 GTO, a McLaren Senna and two Rolls-Royces, among others — is thought to be valued at approximately £17million. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner had the Bugatti, as well as a Mercedes-Benz G-Class, shipped from Manchester to Majorca for the holiday.

A report from The Sun adds that the car crashed into the door of a country house and then into a butane bottle booth in the residential estate of Sa Coma, Bunyola, Palma de Majorca. It's added that local police attended the scene and that the driver has signed an accident report.

Ronaldo is holidaying with his partner Georgina Rodriguez and their children ahead of a return to Carrington for pre-season training with United next month. While new manager Erik ten Hag will welcome a portion of his players back on June 27, Ronaldo and several other stars have been given extra time off after representing their countries in the June international break.

Cristiano Ronaldo expected to stay at Man Utd this summer despite reported frustration over lack of transfers

Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to stay at Manchester United this summer and will report back for pre-season training at the beginning of July, despite reports he is ready to quit the club.

Portuguese sports daily Record claim Ronaldo wants to leave after only one season back at Old Trafford as he fears new boss Erik ten Hag does not have the right tools to compete for titles, while he is also said to be frustrated with the club's transfer window so far.

However, it is understood the 37-year-old is expected to return for pre-season preparations once back from his summer holidays, which will be slightly extended due to his involvement with Portugal in their three opening Nations League fixtures in June.

A report in Spanish daily AS that Bayern Munich are interested in signing Ronaldo if Robert Lewandowski joins Barcelona is also wide of the mark, according to Sky in Germany.

It is understood that Ronaldo does not fit Bayern's transfer philosophy, while the club are still trying to persuade Lewandowski to see out the final year of his contract despite Barcelona's €40m (£34.4m) offer for the Poland striker.

The first players to report back to United's Carrington training base on Monday will be those who did not feature in international fixtures this month, while the rest will follow over the course of the following week.

Ten Hag confirmed during his introductory press conference at United that Ronaldo is part of his plans for the new season, and said he would contribute "goals" to his side.

This will work out better for United. Statistically he has done a good job but as team, United were worse with him than before he joined. You can blame the other players or the coach but United were terrible with him upfront.

Manchester United: Cristiano Ronaldo wants to leave club this summer

Cristiano Ronaldo wants Manchester United to let him leave the club if they receive an appropriate offer for him this summer.

The Portugal forward, 37, returned to Old Trafford from Juventus last summer.

However, while he was United's top scorer last season - and third in the Premier League - the overall campaign was seen as a big disappointment.

United finished sixth in the Premier League so missed out on Champions League qualification.

That means Ronaldo, who has a year left on his United contract plus an optional year, faces playing in the Europa League for the first time.

It is not something he is viewing with relish and the five-time Ballon d'Or winner feels there could be more attractive options available to him at this stage in his career.

Manchester United expect Ronaldo to stay despite Chelsea links
The former Real Madrid forward is anxious to stress he respects United but as he enters the final stages of his career, he wants to compete for the biggest prizes.

It is understood United do not regard Ronaldo as a player who is for sale.

While it would be a blow to United's prestige if they were to lose one of the greatest players they have ever had, it would also solve a few issues for new manager Erik ten Hag.

Ronaldo clashed with Harry Maguire over the United captaincy last season, while interim boss Ralf Rangnick's desire to implement a pressing game was thwarted by Ronaldo's refusal to fit in with such a system.

Although Ten Hag has said how much he is looking forward to linking up with Ronaldo, it is not clear how the forward's playing style would fit in with the Dutchman.

In addition, Ronaldo is the highest paid player in the Premier League and his exit would create more scope within United's summer transfer budget.

Ronaldo is due to return to the club for pre-season training this week. It is anticipated he will be on their pre-season tour to Thailand and Australia.

Italian club Napoli are interested in signing Ronaldo, while the Portugal international's agent has met Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly and Bayern Munich have been informed about the player's situation. (Athletic)

Cristiano Ronaldo will not return to pre-season training with Manchester United today. Most of United’s international players are expected to return to Carrington.

However, Ronaldo will be missing for family reasons in a move that has been accepted by the club. Ronaldo wants to leave Old Trafford this summer if a suitable offer is received.

However, United are adamant they want the Portuguese to honour the final year of his contract. United leave for their pre-season tour of Thailand and Australia on Friday.

Previous season, Ronaldo was the highest scorer for Man U, 3rd highest in EPL, he has a proven track record with any club he plays. He has earned the right to choose who he plays for.

Unlike Messi, plays in the farmer's league, and couldn't muster more than 6 goals despite PP football aficandos predicting he would score 25+. (@mamoon and his cheer leaders born in 93).

CR7 the GOAT.

I have repeatedly called Cristiano Ronaldo as the GOAT for me, so not sure why you had to resort to name calling to prove your point.

Yes, Messi has surprisingly flopped in the French league in his first season. I expected him to do better in the least competitive league in Europe.

Ronaldo did well, but unfortunately has been playing with a bunch of amateurs unable to defend to save their lives.

Lastly, I was born way earlier than 1993, and I probably possess more football knowledge than people who don't know and understand the game beyond Messi and Ronaldo or the Premier League.

Messi 'suprisingly' flopped shouldn't be a surprise for those who understand football.

Don't believe the hype.

You have clearly mentionned 93 in reference to my username.

Atleast have the guts to own your words.

As far as your football knowledge is concerned, it is quite clear that you don't know much about it beyond the current PL era and Messi/Ronaldo rivalry.

It is easily visible through your previous posts on this topic.

Grow up and stop being so insecure.

Mamoon was born in 93 hence my comment.

Messi will score 25+ in the Farmer's league. :))) :))) :)))

If only you were alive when Maradona was in his prime.

Yeah, right.

I was born and old enough to witness Maradona in his prime in Napoli. He remains one of the 4 greatest players of all time.

Yet, Messi trumps him, so does Ronaldo.

I have seen him play live, not on random YouTube reels.

Yet, Messi trumps him, so does Ronaldo.

You can't call Ronaldo the GOAT, and at the same time completely diss Messi like you and then call yourself a football fan with knowledge, unless you started watching it in the 2010s.

I am not dissing Messi insecure child, I am laughing at the so called PP self proclaimed oracles of football who can't even predict the weather let alone football, and are glory supporters.

'Messi will score 25+ in the farmer's league"

:))) :))) :)))

Neither are on the level of the late great Maradonna.

Utd should let him leave. Paying him £500,000 a week when he can only score , not run or create much is a waste.

Im not sure who will take Ronaldo for this money off Utd? Only Chelsea can afford him. If he stays, it will be big disruptions for Utd with him not being happy.

"Insecure child" and here come the emojis.

You have repeatedly proved that you are nothing more than a newbie to football who just got in the Messi vs Ronaldo debate through Twitter.

"Glory hunters" says the guy who supports and watches PL since 2020.

Yet you are a yoda in Football? 25 goals for Messi in L1? Wow. No wonder you were not around during the inception of the EPL.

There is no debate between CR7 and Messi. You agree with me above, CR7 is the GOAT between the 2.

Glory supporter.

At least Mamoon supports Arsenal, win or lose.

:)

No one can touch Maradona, one had to be alive and witness him play, unlike these newbie Youtubers who form their opinion on highlights.

But between CR7 and Messi, CR7 is the GOAT.

Maradona, OG.

Anyone who insults Messi isn't a true football fan but a Ronaldo worshipper. Same goes for a minority of Messi fans who go out of their way to bash Ronaldo but it's largely the fans of the latter who are the most obnoxious as evident by a failed DJ on this thread who's had too many nights out doing all sorts. The head must still be in a mess after all this time!

If I had to choose one of them in a world cup final or champions league final , I would have to go with Ronaldo. And Im a LFC fan.

Everyone expected Messi to smash it in Ligue 1, as we have seen him doing it in a tougher La Liga era.

Yes, he flopped and I could not care less. I am not a PSG fan, neither do I believe that he is better than Ronaldo, who was always the better one for me, with Messi being a close second.

What glory hunter ? Just because I support a club which is bigger than the PL itself ?

I have been with Real Madrid since the times Maradona was actually playing for our rivals.🤦*♂️

We went through tough phases and still remain the biggest club in the history of the game.

Bro,, youre taking this too personally, too emotinal.

Both are great players but for me CR7 is the one for the big games and he also can head like no other.

But its close.

Here's the thing, football isn't just about stats. Those who said Messi would fail in L1 like myself and KKWC, said so because beyond goals, Messi was in his comfort zone at Barcelona since childhood, where the team was built around him.

His surroundings changed, he flopped at PSG as predicted by those who understand psychology, and the rest is history.

CR7 on the other hand has been successful at every club he's played at.

Messi for all his skills couldn't manage 10 goals in a season with L1, let alone 25, proving how much of his success depenend on the other 10 players around him at Barcelona than individual skill.

Bro he constantly bashes Messi and comes up the most immature level of posting.

He's the one who's let his mask slip as Pakpak will tell you. Now he's claiming I'm from Bangladesh :))

Messi is not just an amazing playmaker but always boasts a wonderful goal scoring record without havign to resort to camping in the box. I don't buy this big game nonsense. Look at what Messi did to Man U in the 2 x UCL finals. He was also awarded best player in the 2014 WC when his team narrowly lost to Germany in the final whereas Portugal won the Euros without Ronaldo after 25 mins in the final. Furthermore, he has 2 x additional Ballon d'ors.

Unfortunately too many PL fans, whether it be on here or in pubs have no respect for Messi because he never played in the PL and that is what this all comes down too.

PL is the best but it's also massively overrated as evident by Real Madrid's UCL win.

Even if this was true, what's wrong with being from Bangladesh?. Well done letting your mask slip again with your racial undertones.

Markhor was right about you, you've spent way too many nights as a failed DJ. Your head is in a mess so I'll make a exception on the grounds of your special needs.

No go and play with your vinyl records.

Reals keeper kept them in the game, we should have hammered them but once in a while a keeper gets MOM while his team score one goal to win.

Ronaldo has 4 CL final goals, Messi has 2.

No disrpect to Messi, hes one of the ATG. But football is about opinions and personal choice. For me Ronaldo has more ways of scoring compared to Messi and also fights to the very end. It would be tough choice but I'd take Ronaldo in any final line up if having to choose between the two.

But I would take these players above both of them any day of the week. Most Ronaldo and Messi fans have no clue of football before them.

1. Maradonna.
2. Zidane
3 Pele
4. CR9

Many PL fans are also going against Ronaldo now that he wants to leave United because they can't fulfill his ambitions.

They basically hate everything not related to English football.

At the end of the day, as you said, Madrid and even prime Barcelona in the past have achieved heights PL sides can only dream about even in their absolute primes.

Today, the PL sides are at their best level, and yet, they have failed to secure European glory.

Messi has only performed well when surrounded by his surrogate team who pampered him, Barcelona.

Messi would flop in the EPL for this reason; he doesn't have the skill to stand on his own, heck Messi would flop if he was playing for Brentford!

If Messi was so great, he'd wipe the farmer's league with peasent teams in the L1 league, but no, one season, 6 goals.

World class my back side.

CR7 and Maradona proved why they are a cut above Messi. Any team, any season, all the goals and glory.

Messi's last memorable image of him at a press conference with aloe vera coated kleenex.

So basically Messi is not world class because he is inferior to Ronaldo and Maradona in terms of adaptability ?

Pelé and Maradona have their respective cases for being the greatest of all times, and for me, anyone who chooses one between CR7, Messi, Maradona and Pelé as the GOAT has the right to do so.

However, with all due respect to Zidane and the Brazilian Ronaldo, who were ATGs in their own right, they were never at Cristiano and Messi's level.

Zidane was arguably the greatest midfielder of all time after Maradona and possibly Cruyff, and the best player of the 2000s alongside Ronaldinho and Henry , but he doesn't compare himself to those two guys who took domination to a whole new level.

Ronaldo Nazario COULD have been a GOAT candidate, had he stayed free from injuries.
Eventually, his career and legacy was more about what he could have been instead of what he actually achieved. He peaked for 2-3 years, and then fell off because of injuries.

He failed in the UCL, a tournament that Messi and especially Ronaldo have dominated.

Yes, he has 2 WCs to his name where he was spectacular, but give that Brazilian squad to prime Cristiano, and he is winning the WC as well, with possibly even more goals.

For me, it has to be :

1. Cristiano Ronaldo.
2. Lionel Messi.
3. Pelé.
4. Diego Maradona.

...and then the rest.

UCL was different in those days. Far more games now.

Zidane and CR9 won the world cup for the nations, being the MOM, scoring in the final. The ultimate prize in football.

They are all great players, its difficult to separate them as doing so could be seen as not appreciating the other(s).

It's hilarious how someone can be so triggered about Messi that they feel the need to make a career on a cricket forum with such hyperbole and rhetoric against him.

We know your Djing never took but seriously get a life lol.

Well, they certainly have a more accomplished international legacy, but it's not as if Messi and Ronaldo have been duds at the international level.

Both have carried mediocre teams over the years, especially Ronaldo whose Portugal side were never a strong contender at any tournament apart from the 2006 WC. Only now are they becoming somewhat good, but yet, they don't hold a candle in front of France 1998 and Brazil 2002.

My point is the fact that both Messi and Ronaldo have been excellent with their respective countried, even though Zidane and R9 have better legacies.

The gap between them at club level is just too big to have any sort of debate though.

The funny thing is he's always on a constant streak of hate filled post towards Messi. He must be the most insecure person on PP :))

There's no problem with people having their favourites. My favourite footballer of all time is Thierry Henry but that doesn't stop me from embracing greatness because I truly love the game unlike a significant number of Ronaldo and PL fans who are desperate to see Messi fail.

Messi fans are upset their bakiri torpedoed their predictions. This is the truth.

Ronaldo is probably looking at the Manchester United squad and the lack of transfer activity and thinking what am I doing here, it's time to get out of this mess.

And who can blame him!

Look at the players United are signing and their lack of big transfers. This isn't how it used to be at Old Trafford.

I felt Ronaldo would always leave if Utd are not in the CL.

He has money, fame, trophies but is now playing for his legacy, already great but wants to finish at the top.

I have a feeling Chelsea will make a bid, they need a proven striker with CL experience and I wouldn't be surprised if Ronaldo took them to the title.

Wonder if Ronaldo will end up in North America or Asia somewhere on a massive contract to sell replica shirts and wind down towards retirement.

CR7 sells more shirts than Messi. His move to Man U busted Messi PSG shirt sales in a few hours.

Why the hell are you bringing Bangladesh into the conversation ?

You can prove your points without having to generalize a whole country. What do Pakistani football fans know about the game ?

Most of them don't even know anything about it besides Ronaldo.

You are just exposing yourself to another level here.

It's not all Ronaldo fans.

It's mostly some kids who got to know about football through Twitter and Instagram a few years ago.

Agreed.

He wants to finish his legendary career on a high note, and he clearly has understood that this club is not ambitious enough to win the big trophies.

City, Liverpool and the other big clubs have all made huge signings in the transfer window. Even Real Madrid after winning the UCL didn't hesitate and even prepared their midfield and defence for the next few years to come with the signing of Tchouameni and Rudiger.

And you have this joke of a club who are signing an over the hill Eriksen, while still keeping garbage like Maguire, Shaw, Rashford etc..

The man is 37, and still has more hunger than many young players who play for Manchester United, it is understandable to see him trying to leave.

He should have never left the biggest club in the world though, it is always downhill after Real Madrid.

I completely agree and I have no issues with anyone who rates Ronaldo above Messi. At the end of the day we all have our views and personal preferences. What matters is that we should cherish and respect the fact that they're still playing at the highest level.

Once they're gone, we'll miss them.

The level of delusion in this thread.

The narratives destroyed this season of Penaldo being a leader, not needing service (through and through poacher, carrying Madrid (won UCL without him)professional (faking excuses and forcing his way out of Madrid after leading them to Europa) and someone who loves challenges (jumping ship to avoid the humiliation of playing in Europa) lmao.

He was lucky not to have been there already with Juve, Pirolo benched him for the last game and Juve were able to qualify. Had Napoli not bottled Juve and him would have been in Europa, same this season with Watford, he wouldn't have been playing Europa but Conference league.

He's destroyed two dressing rooms and burned bridges with two sets of fans. It's no surprise locker rooms don't like him - Juve hated him, Utd hated him and Madrid seem closer than ever these days. Perez called him a nut job in leaked tapes and Ancelotti publicly rejected him on twitter when he tried to get a return back to Madrid. Madrid fans don't even want him back and the ones who do want him as a sub.

Now he's back on his European rejection tour with every major European team in the world rejecting him.
