Did Pakistan miss Wahab Riaz over Hassan Ali?

So we had Malik and Hafeez in our squad, what is the justification to oust Wahab? He is a far more skilled T20 bowler than Hassan Ali, he is a better fielder than him too. Hassan might be a better six hitter but Wahab is still more than capable to hold his own with the bat as well.

We don’t really have a 3rd seamer and I’m not sure if Dahani or Irfan jr will be ready for next year. Might as well get Vicky back into the side! The wrong precedent has already been set with Hafeez and Malik
 
Wahab does have his days but would’ve been hit around today another spinner was needed clearly could’ve choked Australia more before they had a chance to win we missed Raza Hasan.
 
Aussies love pace on the ball, i reckon if you wanted to squeeze them then the perfect man for the job was Nawaz in those middle overs or even giving Malik a go.

It happens we can't do anything about this.

I know you and your bf Mamoon are gonna love criticising but this Pak team endured a lot of heartache in the build up and they all gave it their best shot.
 
I think this is clutching at straws. Wahab often goes for 10 a over when his bowling as for the dropped catch can’t say much happens to all. warner and Steve Smith dropped catches too, however Nawaz may have done better today than Hasan, Imad bowled a good over in the middle and didn’t bowl his 4th and came out of the attack when the squeeze was on he should have been allowed to finish his 4th over instead Hasan came on to replace him.

If u offered me 152-0 against india at the start of the World Cup and a unbeaten run to the semis and scoring 176 batting first in the semi I would have taken it
 
And he performs well in the UAE. The problem was with that squad only Mohammed Wasim Jr was a replacement for Hassan Ali. That was brainless as Wasim Junior has no experience in world cup tournaments. If Wahab was in the squad, he would have replaced Hassan after the Afghanistan game and could have won us the world cup. Wahab has showed, he bowled better with age in the last couple of years.

Great chance as I don't think Pakistan would had a better chance than winning this tournament as next year in Australia will be a different ball game.
 
Am surprised no one is focusing on Haris Rauf, he was below par today as well.
 
Nah, wahab wouldnt have done any better, he is only a one watto spell wonder... thats all... we need to find newer talent, dahani needs to play find out if he is any good or move on to unearth further...

haris rauf was bowling predictable speed trends, fast slow fast slow fast slow, aussies did their homework on him... he needs more experience, gun fielder, will come good.
 
Yes we did in regards to him being a better fielder for sure. As I say in T20's all bowlers can tanked around such is the nature of the game. He too would have been spanked around.

Haris Rauf was our second best bowler in the tournament. Caught well in the field too. Don’t forget that he never came through the system like the rest.

They smash pace

Only chance would have been another skilled slower bowler

Tbf all pace bowlers were below par.

Hazlewood’s bowling was murdered today for the first time in the tournament
Cummins was pretty average until his last over
Starc was annihilated in his last two overs by Fakhar
Shaheen was smashed for 3 sixes in a row by Mathew Wade of all people

The problem is, Hassan has been poor throughout the tournament and he didn’t address the basics at all. He bowled the most no balls by any bowler in this tournament. That is unacceptable! Especially when your country depends on you to be the most experienced pace bowler. Hassan has played 3 ICC tournaments now and he has been a key player for a pakistans win in one of them. He is expected to deliver and not cower away like he did throughout!

Pace might not work but medium pace/trundling most definitely isn’t going to work on a flat track

Any bowler can have a below par tournament. Hasan has been doing well before coming for the tournament. The real problem was the Backup was very poor and then they never got tried out even
in insignificant games against minnows.

This team showed Rigidity of a dead wood and came with fixed ideas and plans and never improvised.

Other example of "Static" approach was to try Imad against Warner knowing well that he never succeed
against him. I hope Pakistan would take lot's of positive and start being more flexible and open minded
This Tournament has done a lot of good for them and hope they take it from here.

Well....while watching second innings I was thinking about Raza Hasan because I believe if we had another good spinner in the middle overs Australians could've been choked.

Where is the guy now.

Somewhere around 2012, he was an excellent t20 bowler.

What a waste...
 
Both Wahab and Hasan are having the worst economy rate in the 400+ runs match against England... We need a new bowler please..!
 
Look people are going to jump on Hasan Ali but he did deliver important wickets against India and he’s not the only bowler to get hammered tonight. We had other opportunities for sure. Wahab used to get slated in previous runs in the side too.

For those who think Hasan Ali is a good T20 bowler International economy rate 8.33 surely up there with the highest in the world?

Man, you have the habit of completely backing the wrong players every time.

Also, he's 36 years old. Which means he's probably 41...

No age for a fast bowler.
 
To be honest on the day anyone can be hit fore a few in the format, yes Hassan had an off tournament but its part and parcel of any sport. Statistically as well as factually Hassan has been one of our best players since his come back across the formats so really cant blame anyone here.

In the hindsight, Dahani with his recent whiteball form could have pretty decent but then again there was no solid reasoning to drop one of your best players during a world tournament. You have to back your key players to come good in the tournaments and Hassan was considered one of the key players, still is (Yes rhythm and form needs some work). Wahab on his bad days have gone for plenty multiple times as well so as mentioned its part of the game.
 
Wahab was one of THE most wayward fast bowler Pakistan ever produced, he put young Sami and Johnson to shame. He found his rhythm way too late in his career. He intimidated a spent all-rounder Shane Watson.

Hassan is a good fielder but he's had two key misses one in a test match we're they went onto loose and the other one was this time.

I think dahani will be ready for the world Cup in Australia.
 
Pakistan were not ruthless enough...you had two out of form players, Fakhar and Hasan...and unfortunately both played.

It was too risky taking a chance on both.
Fakhar paid off, Hasan didn't.

Hasan Ali's bowling in T20s is and has been toothless in recent times.

No swing, no movement, hitable speed and telegraphed slow balls.

He is more than useful in tests, if not our best and, with older ball, reverse handy in ODIs...but in T20s his time is up based on his current skill level.

Hope he takes time off from the format, reflects, adds a few touches and comes back strong.

Don't worry Hasan, ishq ke imtihan abhi aur baqi hain.

He has been extremely wayward throughout his career but I must say he has become better with age especially since the advent of PSL. An economy rate of under 7.5 is really good. Nothing against Wasim Jr, but Wahab should have been there on merit.

My biased preference would have been Rumman Raees though. His variations and ability to remain calm under pressure is priceless.
 
What they needed was a fit and firing Mohammad Amir to partner with Shaheen.

The fact he's lost his ability and is a shell of himself is a big loss.
 
I miss Wasim Akram, what’s the point?

We need to look for fresh new alternatives.
 
Wahab seems like a better option than Hasan.

Wahab brings in a positive vibe. Very energetic guy.
 
He couldn't be worst than this useless trundler Hasan Ali.

But rather than players like 45 year old Hafeez and other oldies, we should look for younger players.
 
Another fast bowler wasn’t needed what was needed was another frontline spinner in UAE it’s just common practise to select 2 full time spin bowlers in the squad unfortunately despite a lot of experience in conditions this didn’t happen.

Wahab was too hit and miss tho. In hindsight he seems like a better option but he could've sprayed a couple down the leg side and we'd be blaming him just like Hasan's last over. And as for saying "he'd have held the catch instead of Hasan" - that's pointless because the catch wasn't the turning point, it was the fact that Shaheen got hammered by Wade for 3 sixes and we couldn't pick a wicket for the last 80 runs of Australia's innings. We also batted to slow in the start of our innings and the below par total already meant we were on the back foot from ball one of Australia's innings.
 
No. Both are about on par as players. Can not say Wahab would have given fewer runs.
 
No guarantee but if he or Dahani had been in main 15 squad I am quite sure one of them could have been tried after 3 matches in first round. Selectors wasted 2 spots of wasim Jr and Sarfraz. Only time Sarfraz would have played was when Rizwan was injured and they could have replaced him from travel reserves. Similarly wasim Jr was never gonna play as our combination doesn't need pace all rounder in UAE. They would have been much better off minimally keeping Dahani and possibly also Wahab in main squad.

However, IMHO going with Nawaz would have worked best against Aussies who prefer pace over spin any day.
 
Wahab would have been useful with his experience, but in reality Pak only needed two pace bowers in most matches. If was not going to be utilised properly the Nawaz should have payed in pace of Hasa Ali. Most team struggled with slow bowlers.
