England were undefeated throughout the tournament, also having recently beaten the No. 1 ODI team: South Africa. They were already touted to win and some of my English friends already took a day off from work for the final.

Even on the forum nobody gave Pakistan a sniff of a chance. All my Pakistani brothers on here were satisfied on reaching the semi's and were just expecting a fighting attitude from the cornered tigers not a meek surrender.

Pakistan lost heavily to India in their opening game, but sprung back against South Africa, but the win was not as convincing now looking at the fact that Pakistan barely scrapped by from Sri Lanka in similar events and even that could have been a loss if it wasn't for a single catch. But the latter two teams were defeated in the end.

This trashing of England by Pakistan has got to be the biggest upset I've seen apart from the 2003 cricket World Cup final. How high do you rank this upset?

No. England is second when it comes to the most unpredictable team, I was expecting them to lose, if not in Semi Final, definitely in Final. Pakistan beat SA and now England more convincingly, calling it an upset is an insult to the Pakistani team.

Not even close .

England was always vulnerable against such a good attack .

How so brother Khan?

England faced Hazelwood and Starc, two of the best bowlers in the world yet came out on top. Those two bowlers were proven match winners for a long time unlike this Pakistani attack which was fresh.

So everyone was thinking that the Pakistani attack won't be that hard to tackle as the mighty Aussies were put down so easily.

England were strong favourites but no I wouldn't call it the greatest upset.

Pakistan are not that poor. Yes ranked 8th but still have decent enough bowling to cause significant damage.

Nowhere near.

The greatest upset has to be BD beating the ATG Aussie side back in 05.

That was a true miracle.

What is the bloody upset?? Any western team playing against Pakistan on this type of condition, they will loose 7/10 times. When reverse swing and spin comes into play, Pakistan is one of the best. We are getting our mojo back, we just announced it!!!

These teams are only good in certain conditions. There is no universal team right now, like Auses of 2000s or WIs of 80s that are good no matter what.

It's not an upset when one side wins with 8 wickets and 13 overs to go.

It was a one sided affair.

I am speaking about before the match, no one could have seen this happening. If you told a neutral that Pakistan will beat England by 8 wickets and 13 overs to spare they would've laughed at you and said "in your dreams"

Every once in a while there is a result (and the manner of victory) which sends shockwaves through the sporting universe, and everyone is forced to take notice.

This was one of those events. As comprehensive a win as you are ever likely to see with the overwhelming favourite on the receiving end.

Bro that Aus team was without Warne, he always destroyed weak sides when he played.

Are you serious? :))

They still had Ponting, Gilly, Hayden, Martyn, Hussey, McGrath, Gillespie, Clarke, plus good players like Katich, Kasprowicz and Hogg.

That is a serious team and whop all the teams today with ease.

I had a feeling England were due a bad game and that is what happened.

Yep this was an astonishing win really.

We didn't just beat them we annihilated them.

Always thought pak will win, england have a deep but fragile line up.

Bangladesh winnig against india will be a much bigger upset .

Lol, any Pakistan cricket fan who has followed Pakistan cricket since early 90s could tell you after Sri Lanka's match that something special is just round the corner.

We have had our moments in history and this victory will be added to that list.

Some of our glorious victories are just not digested worldwide as they are labelled an upset while millions saw how toothless England were against our bowling.

Some cricket fans will never understand how it feels when you win the match based on your bowling, I belong to the land who produced Fazal Mehmood, Imran Khan, Wasim Akram, Waqar younis, Shiaib Akhtar and Muhammad Asif. I have seen my bowling doing it numerous times and I can sense that Bangladesh will be in for a rude surprise against us and I will not label the victory of Bangladesh as an upset. If they beat India, they deserve to play final against us.

Pakistan had the same chance of beating England, as Bangladesh beating New Zealand. That's how I look at it.

Pretty viable comparison too.

Your post was good until the last sentence. I don't believe the Aussie team of the early to mid 2000s was easy. They were probably the best team in history. How is Australia of 2003 beating India in 2003 CWC Final an upset?

In terms of the final scorecard yes one of the most unexpected results . The ease & margin of victory was very surprising to any cricket fan.

Pakistan beating England, there was always a chance due to pitch , Pak bowling attack , English batsmen against spin and the form of the Pakistan team .

Because Sachin was a godlike batsman at that point, everyone was expecting him to score a century and win it for India.
