Did we lose our X-factor by dropping Mohammad Rizwan?

Playing a blinder atm. Have stood by this kid since his debut, fickle fans deserted him when he was sent in at 101-6 or 90-4 with the RRR at 9+, and when he couldn't play hero, they called for his head.

Now he's throwing dirt at the faces of the selectors. Should've taken him as back-up WK and over that 2-bit backyard cricketer Iftikhar Ahmed.
 
He should have preformed earlier, was given enough chances.
 
Iftikhar is average, but so is Rizwan. Will be a sitting duck vs spin plus isn't good enough against pace either.

Should've taken Sharjeel at least.
 
Let's be honest, being better than Iftikhar Ahmed is setting a low bar. His T20 SR is no better than Khurram Manzoor, he's a proper batsman not suited to be a late order slogger.

Would like to see him retained for ODIs and perhaps even open given he can play shots against the pacers, keeping him away from spin during the middle overs.

Rizwan is not average. He is temperately one of the best I have seen. He had played some of the best knocks in the domestic T20 league last year. If you give him the amount of chances Umar Akmal has got, he will turn out to be fruitful unlike him.
 
I still beleive in him as an ODI player, he is not a slogger that we are trying to make out of him. He should bat in top 5 in ODIs
 
Don't know why pathetic Iftikhar Ahmed is there but not Rizwan
 
He is a very talented batsman who finds ways to score his runs playing unorthodox shots. I was very surprised to see Rizwan not being selected.
 
It's ok there would other world cups too and plenty of cricket after World Cup. Rizwan is potential but not a gun right now. Let him keep improving.

Almost every Pakistani batsman has some weakness, Kid shouldnt have been dropped altogether.

I am a firm beleiver that Rizwan can play Test cricket for Pakistan and Its not like he has been a total failure.

So Rizwan is average but Akmal and Amin are the best bats in the country? Rizwan is better than them and if he gets to play 6 years for Pakistan like a certain someone, he will have a much better career than him
 
Rizwan as lucky today... this guy surprisingly has lots of issues against spin

Rizwan and Akmal should open in ODIs. Dont know why you are discarding the former. Look at the Iftikhars and Manzoors and then lookat Akmal. He also looks like he has matured mentally since NZ t20s

Actually, had he failed in asia and world t20 then he might not even have got a chance to play in odis for pakistan. But since pakistan's chances are bleak this time(not that they have ever been great, be it 2009 2010 or 2012), so in case if pakistan botches up in asia and wt20. Then atleast, he wont get axed and will be back to pakistan odi and t20.

I'm not discarding Akmal. I didn't say that he shouldn't be in the T20 squad.

Yeah so much class that Akmal can't even make the test and ODI teams anymore and Amin can't even make the Pakistan team in any format. Rizwan is better and we will see that in 5 years time.

Umar and Rizwan are very similar with Rizwan having a somewhat better temprament and Umar better against spin (with the exception of the SLA :srt).
 
I think the thing we lost the most by dropping Rizwan was his superb fielding. When we're inevitably facepalming during the WC because of rubbish Pakistani fielding, I know some of us will be missing Rizwan then.

Other than that, I feel he has potential at the bat but he does need to improve significantly, especially since his recent performances have not been so hot. He did very well in the Sri Lanka series.

I was watching Rizwan's knock vs Islamabad. Some of the shots were exquisite timing. But in atleast 2 of his shots he got into really awkward positions while hitting them. Some of the shots specially when he is coming down the pitch look to cross batted and come at an awkward height to him. The execution is missing sometimes in what he tries to achieve.

Sometimes it seems he is even too quick for himself. That he plans to do something but he has check himself because he is too quick to the pitch of the ball sometimes, or comes dancing down the pitch and gets run out.. He will need to control his hyperness. His mind is sometimes slower than his body..
 
I liked Rizwan, but here's the thing if he comes in at 6/7 and rr is at 9+ we are dead. ATM he seems to be playing at a 100 sr which isn't good enough for the format, however I still think he should have made the squad. Am I the only person who wanted Misbah in the sqaud for the spinners!!! (I know he has retired)
 
There are already too many similar batsmen in T20s. I think he should only play ODIs at the moment.
 
Xfactor could have been sharjeel or any unknown spinner like ashgar or usama mir but certainly not rizwan..

Sharjeel is very unfortunate to miss out after his performances for 'A' side, and track record. The guy is real muscular
 
Honestly Rizwan on current form doesn't deserve selection. He's just a known name and people have attached "potential" to him and hence the outcry. He's one for the future certainty. But right now, he does NOT merit being on the T20 squad - there's no room for him, he's got a serious weakness against spin on tracks that will be spin heavy.

He hasn't done anything for people to be outraged he wasn't selected.
 
X factor in running out himself? He's good but there wasn't an iota of X-factor revolving around him.

Coming at 6 or 7, he should have scored some runs to save his spot.
 
wasnt a blinder , they were bowling short to him . plus he is very bad against spin . still he should have been in place of iftikhar
 
Yes you're right he is an X or a Z. and could have been taken instead of iftikhar malashi. But we have sarfraz as our keeper and umar akmal as his back up. this will keep him hungry, one for the future.

Coming from someone who thinks Sarfraz has been sent from the heavens . . . the irony. Your description perfectly fits the fat keeper but of course you don't see it.

On Topic: he should have been picked ahead of Iftikhar, miles better than him.

Come on yaar this is sharjah wicket here anyone can score runs get Nasir jamshed,kami they will also score century.
The thing is both sharjeel and rizwan were tested in dubai wickets but both horribly failed.
Dropping rizwan will only get him to work harder and regain his place.

If Rizwan is called X factor then What Mc Cullum, Guptil, Maxwell is? May be XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX factor.

I think it completely fits rizwan. He is too quick for his own liking. Proof : The amount of suicidal run outs he's been involved in are a bit too much for anyone's liking.

Sarfraz on the other hand times his runs to perfection. Did you see his knock vs Lahore? It was a masterclass knock, almost at a 200 strike rate but with plenty of singles and doubles. Ran 4 two's in one over. Thats probably more than Kami has run this entire year :kami

Sarfraz does try to force the pace often (coming down the pitch to Milne), but he's not as hyper as Rizwan.

I do agree though that Rizwan was more deserving than the likes of Iftikhar.

Also, to those saying that he's superior to U.Akmal, I definitely don't agree with that. I think junior is still a better player than him.
 
On the other hand no one ever doubted Rizwan's place in the side. There is no doubt he should've been in the team ahead of Iftikhar, which is almost as baffling and Manzoor's selection
 
X factor? Guy can't hit to save his life, cant play spin and can't play fast so where is the 'x' factor? Prolly in fielding, we don't need specialist fielder! I'm not sold on ifthikar but playing Rizwan late in the order doesn't make sense, Anwer has better hitting abilities than Rizwan. He should be kept away from t20 side, should be regular for Jamodis. One of the most unstylish player I have seen, his cuts and slices reminds me of gully cricketers.

Please keep note of how often Sarfraz has been involved in run outs since coming back into the team. He's the worst runner alongside Hafeez and Azhar, and is always restless at the crease.

Yes it was a legendary knock. Was exhausted in like 15 minutes, such is his fitness.

2 run outs since the World cup in ODI's.. Atleast check your stats
 
Look at Sarfraz play that classy knock.. after getting a fantastic 30 in the previous game carrying out his good form. Looks set to be the captain of the tournament so far.
Looks calm and composed against Ajmal while others have been sweating against him..

People think Rizwan can play as good as this are in denial. Rizwan is a sitting duck against spinners.. and even worse against pace.. only Rumman Raees is someone who is in his zone of hitting..
 
Should get to a well deserved fifty..
Sarfraz has been like a gladiator in the middle.. taking on challenge after challenge.. the crowd goes wild when Sarfraz 'maximus' ahmed takes on a spinner.. and at the end of the battle he shouts 'is there anyone else???'
But no one is able to match the skill set he possesses :))

Just because he took one diving catch down the leg side.. We should excuse his horrible keeping for the last 4-5 matches
 
Not surprised... Sarfraz fans feeling left out and maybe jealous that their favorite sweeper cannot play half the shots in Rizwan's repertoire let alone show his athleticism behind the stumps.

The heroic 50 Riz scored 2 games ago is better than any innings Sarfraz has or will ever play in his entire lifespan.

Most Rizwan fans are kindhearted and will usually not mention these harsh truths, but I think it's time to stop beating around the george bush.
 
Khurram Manzoor opening the batting will give any team the X-factor -- what more can you ask for !!

At the moment, Sarfraz is a better keeper than Rizwan, but there is no reason why he cannot improve on his keeping considering he's 24 only and a fantastic athlete. On the contrary, Sarfraz is 30/31 and in the prime of his career, and his keeping at this stage of his career is thoroughly mediocre. Looking at the bigger picture, I'm much more worried about Sarfraz's keeping than Rizwan's, considering there's hope for improvement for the latter.

Notice that I did not say anything about the World Cup, because it is a general observation (no necessary cut-off period) over the last 2-3 years since he has been a regular in the team. His running is hazardous and he has been involved in plenty of mishaps. I don't need stats to know that he is the third worst runner in the team after Hafeez and Azhar.

Even Pietersen was baffled with his calling and indecision.

i was reading dawn so this article about khurran manzoor caught my eye. KM was saying that i was speechless due to the fact that i got selected for wt20.

People in comments were saying that

"yes we all are speechless seeing you being selected for wt20 out of the blue" :))
 
Rizwan is another of those countless players who initially played well as he was new so no one had figured his batting out. As soon as he was figured out in came the low scores. A bit like Sohaib Maqsood. He had his chance, can still make a comeback but I dont think he did anything to justify a world t20 spot.
 
Had a brief chat with Rizwan a couple of days ago and he was very honest about him missing the World T20. He said and admitted he has not been good enough of late and needs to improve.

WoW... probably one of the rare breed of Pakistani batsmen who are ready to accept their faults and looking forward to improve their deficiencies in batting. Don't want to name others, but anytime a batsman is dropped, they reply something like "see I am still averaging better than others in the team, conditions were hard overseas etc etc." - so in essence putting the blame on selectors and never admitting their own short-comings..

This attitude may actually take Rizwan to become one of the best Pakistani batsman of current era. Keep working hard mate !!
 
The only thing we've missed out on from him is an excellent fielder. His batting was not suited in the lower order in T20's and should've played in the top order which is already occupied with Hafeez and Umar Akmal.
 
ODI top order should be

1. Azhar Ali
2. Rizwan
3. Hafeez
4. Babar Azam
5. Umar Akmal
6. Malik/Haris Sohail
 
This guy is seriously a joke at this point. Completely outclassed.

We kept saying how poor he was against spin. Turns out he's not all that good against pace either.

I totally understand that Rizwan wasn't able to justify his inclusion but why on earth Iftikhar Ahmed is doing with the team. What has he done to be part of the team?
 
He's back in the team now Alhamdullilah, Mickey knows there is talent within and I think this series will be the launchpad he needs to become a top tier threat in world cricket.

Kid has every stroke known to man, but his only weakness is that he is a confidence player like Kami which is why he seems a bit nervous. But I think management have given him confidence so only a matter of time. :hafeez

I hope management doesn't drop Rizwan, Mickey needs to back him and give proper chances. He is a team player will play at any position required by team unlike Umar Akmal.
I just love this guy young full of energy.
 
Should not be dropped. We could have gone past 300 yesterday if he was there
 
X-factor better performs today. His last few ODI appearances has been abysmal.
 
Now they have invested in him, stick with and give a few games and let him swim or sink. Qadir has become a disgrace for his comments, and should never be given an official role again.
 
To be honest we don't need any Akmal's, there are more talented guys coming through just love controversy free cricket.
