Do you think this World Cup has done enough to inspire newer generation?

There is absolutely no doubt that we have witnessed the best 50 over final ever but has this world cup done enough to make new fans? I don't think so and the reason is simple.

The rules of the game are too complicated and dumb to a large extent. Don't get me wrong, a regular follower of the game won't have any issues understanding the rules of the game but I am talking about new fans. Just a few examples.

Technology not being used properly. This umpire's call business needs to be kicked out. If it is hitting the stumps then its out.

Comical rules such as deciding the world cup final with who has scored the most boundaries.

Net run rate deciding who goes through the group stage instead of head to head record.

The DLS method used in rain affected games.

In my opinion the games needs to made simpler if ICC is really interested in its growth.

It was a fantastic game that was ruined by the rules.

Even a newbie would laugh at the tiebreaker rule. All other sports have reasonable tiebreaker rules in their finals (i.e. play until there's a winner) and not something as ridiculous as what we saw at Lord's.

Unless Cricket is not free to air in UK, nothing will change. The celebrations you see will not sustain much. And Soccer is a big beast, you can not replace it but cricket cannot even lower the gap, i think.

In fact it would have been great if kiwis had won it. Small population, easier to engage. I would say by percentage more kiwis watched the match in NZ than english men in England.

Saying that, Following the NZ coverages, it seemed like NZ people were more enthusiastic about the final than the englishmen(white). NZ, a small country happy that a moderately popular sport team of their country going to a final even if the sport is far less exciting to them than Rugby. They also didnt even care about the WC at the start.

The gap between cricket and rugby could have decreased. Also in recent years cricket participation of kids under 15 has increased in NZ, wherese in UK it has decreased despite ever growing South asian expats.

I am seeing many many tweets and comments by people who are saying that they watched the game yesterday and that they were wrong about cricket being a dull game.

People from places like Italy and Brazil were commenting that they watched the highlights on youtube and were thrilled by the game and commentary even though they didnt understand completely what was happening lol

I think cricket fans in UK need to lower their expectations cricket will never reach the support of Football however it occupies a strong niche in UK and continues to thrive well withing that niche. Netwest T 20 blast attracts on average 7000 fans per game. Test and odi's get on average 15000-20000 fans per day of cricket these numbers are similar to what Rugby games attract. There will be occasions like yesterday or Ashes 05 when cricket will get main stream occasionaly but mostly it will be Football younger brother along with Rugby.

And some fans(not you) should stop belittling Cricket saying its less popular than netball here or Rugby is way more popular. No, Cricket is still on par with Rugby here despite having a complex pay to view tv broadcast system.

Not just cricket, but this is inspirational for everyone out there, from both sides- England and New Zealand. It is the story of both the nation's and we should learn to apply it and inspire from it in our fields and our lives.

No. Most white people I know don’t care about the cricket.

Hopefully, our next generation were inspired by this and will right the wrongs of 2019.

The diehards are still here and will always be here but the casuals have gone and i will be interested to see what happens with them.

In England the White Rugby and Cricket fans overlap

It will always be that way.

Yeah. No one should challenge it. But i dont think cricket is even sustaining its core fan group. Due to its telecast not being free to tv.

Desi people should stop comparing cricket to Football. No we cant compete with soccer, especially in Eng. Cricket was never a more popular sport here than Soccer since 1940s..lol. But at least Cricket was moderately popular pre 2000 and one breif time in 2005. Being the 2nd best team based sport in UK was not a poor claims by english cricket back in those days. People used to care about the sport and some players were household names but now none of the players are known. Many fathers who used to watch cricket at young age sadly says hes son doesnt know about it. In the 1980s cricket was the only thing that was on tv during the day there were a handful of stations that were available during the day and suddenly this game was the one to watch after 14 years.

No cricket is not trying to surpass Soccer but at least could be 2nd feeder like it used to be..
