The recent tragic incident in India, where three individuals lost their lives due to an outdated Google Maps navigation, raises a crucial question about our reliance on GPS technology. While these navigation systems have undoubtedly made our lives easier, this heartbreaking event highlights the importance of exercising caution and not blindly trusting GPS directions.

It is essential for drivers to remain alert, observe their surroundings, and use their judgment when following GPS instructions, especially in unfamiliar or potentially hazardous areas. As we continue to embrace technological advancements, we must remember that they are not infallible and that our safety should always be the top priority.

Three dead after Google Maps tells car to drive off unfinished bridge in India

Three individuals died after Google Maps failed to update the changes to a bridge under construction and directed them to drive into it, causing their deaths.

Three individuals were killed Sunday while following Google Maps that directed their vehicle off a bridge that was still under construction, officials reported.

Three victims were driving from Bareilly to Dataganj in the Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh, India.

The incident occurred around 10 a.m. Sunday on the Khalpur-Dataganj road where the victims hurtled into the Ramganga River.

The front portion of the bridge had collapsed into the river due to floods earlier this year.

However, Google Maps had not updated to reflect the change.

Authorities found that the GPS guided the vehicle toward the weakened portion of the bridge and the driver, unaware, drove into it.

The absence of safety barriers or warning signs near the under-construction bridge also added to the fatality of the incident, local Circle Officer Ashutosh Shivam said.

The car was traveling at a high speed before it plunged into the river.
