What's new

Does Pakistan have enough talent to add two more teams to PSL?

As per a media report, the franchises have rejected the idea of 2 additional teams as "they believe that players' pool is already limited".

So it's not happening!

Contractually, the PCB can't add additional teams till 2025. I would like PCB to honour that agreement. However they also need to draw the line where they can't keep listening and bowing to the franchises and their demands of no new teams forever. Add the new teams from the 2026 season, hopefully by then the finances of the PSL will improve.

Look, personally I agree with you. The PCB needs to be driving the ship here rather than the franchises, especially as the PSL brand gains greater traction.

Further, given the recent performances of both the U19s, the Shaheens and, say the Tareen academy team in the Moin Khan Academy Ramzan Cup, I believe that there absolutely is now enough talent for two more teams.

However, the PCB’s focus for the next two PSLs needs to be to add more venues to the PSL. InshAllah for next year, we need to see a full season of 5 games in Peshawar and atleast 3 games in Quetta (increasing to 5 full games in 2025). Hopefully during this time both the Rafi stadium in Karachi and Sialkot Jinnah stadium get completed. Hopefully Faisalabad and Hyderabad can get a facelift as well, meaning that the ground will inshAllah be fertile for two more teams in 2026.
