Putin praises Trump’s ‘sincere’ peace efforts, signals possible US-Russia nuclear deal

Ahead of his highly anticipated talks with President Donald Trump in Alaska, Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that he could be ready to reach a nuclear deal with the U.S.

On Thursday, Putin praised the U.S. for making "sincere efforts" to end the war between Russia and Ukraine, which has raged for over three years. He said on TV that the U.S. was "making, in my opinion, quite energetic and sincere efforts to stop the hostilities, stop the crisis and reach agreements that are of interest to all parties involved in this conflict," according to Reuters.

The Russian leader also reportedly mentioned possible future "agreements in the area of control over strategic offensive weapons."

Russia and the U.S. hold the world’s largest nuclear weapons arsenals and have a treaty limiting the number of weapons they may possess, which is set to expire in February, adding more pressure to the upcoming talks. The New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) covers strategic nuclear weapons and caps the number of deployed warheads at 1,550 on each side, according to Reuters.

There has already been some nuclear tension between the two nations in recent days, as Trump ordered two nuclear submarines to move closer to Russia after the country’s former president made "highly provocative statements." The Kremlin downplayed the move but warned all sides to be "very, very careful" about nuclear rhetoric, according to Reuters.

Would love to hear the Indian spin on this, went from holding hands with Trump, to dumping him for Putin, and now watching their new bestie Putin shower praise on their ex.

Trump wants the Nobel Peace prize real bad. But he will not get it. The world is still run by leftists. Trump is more of an aberration and his reign will be over in 3 more years. Leftists will bide their time before putting the hammer on him.

This is international politics. No one is anyone's best friend. Its all alliances of convenience. Who would have thought that Pakistan will be in bed with Amreekans again...Trump will not be happy with Pakistan's alliance with China. It will come up soon. Trump is only siding with Pakistan to arm twist India into making hasty decisions. So far, India did not take the bait.

The question is: do you believe he should get it? What do most Modi supporters believe?

He has frequently caused friction with his allies including Modi and India, not only by duping them into starting a war with pakistan, assuring them the US backing and then suddenly jumping in to stop it - regardless of what Modi and India says, that's the publicly accepted narrative, and US and Trump will stick to it.

Not only that, he has slapped his ally Modi and India with tariffs and all this antagonistic behavior is not exactly reflective of a peaceful nature to me.

My personal take is Trump is a con-man and he has swindled everyone into thinking he is a man of peace. I don't think he deserves any peace prize.

Trump knows exactly where Pakistan and China stand, there’s nothing to cheer or get upset about. This is just Indian fantasy, wishing U.S irritation could fracture Pakistan-China ties so India can jump in bed with China. you stick to your Russian friends (y)

That is not a personal take, that is the well established fact if one were to observe his behavior over the years, not only he is a con man but also a racist.

I just wanted to give the parosi an in so I can chitrolify him further and now you have ruined that for me.

Yes I think he saved the world from nuclear annihilation. With the way Op Sindoor was unfolding and the abject failure of Pak missile forces and Op bunyan.. Paks defense was shredded and they were about to launch nukes or more likely ask for the nuke control codes from Uncle and we all know how that would have wiped out so many innocent people in Pakistan. So definitely credit where credit is due. It is good to see Pakistan do the sane thing and request for ceasfire, then thank USA publicly and nominate Him for the coveted prize.

So you are posting about trump just scared of answering pointed questions.

He’s most likely going to get it. Nobody in the history of this award has lobbied and literally publicly cried for it more than Trump.

Trump wanted Modi to nominate him for a Nobel Prize. Modi said no.
:klopp :kp
Weren't you the one doing a full aarti for Trump just weeks ago, standing on one leg, chewing Vimal like prasad, and circling a 'Cycle' agarbatti for Shri Dolaand Baba Trump? What changed now, bhakht ji? :kp :inti

He should, and Indian should nominate Trump for stepping in, after listening to Modi beg for a ceasefire following his failed ‘political strike’ on Pakistan. Trump practically saved India from stumbling into a nuclear war.

Seems like something big is cooking behind the doors.. too much praise for PM shehbaz Sharif and General Asim Munir is beyond my thoughts!

María Corina Machado wins Nobel Peace Prize

María Corina Machado from Venezuela has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2025.

In a post on X, the committee says it has awarded Maria Corina Machado the Nobel Peace Prize "for her tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy".

Fair play

Trump got caught snaking when he backed Israel for their genocidal activities and also their aggression towards Iran.

He did well though by ensuring India wasn’t nuked in May 2025

Aww bechare ko Nobal peace prize ni Mila? . He is psycho and psycho doesn't get the Nobel Peace Prize. :kp

Exactly this and it’s not about taking oil from Russia. That’s just an excuse, the real reason is about getting more access to the huge Indian market, which Modi is protecting for the right reasons. Trump wants US businesses to profit from that huge market.

US support for Israel in Gaza war is not hidden. He does not deserve the award anyway, just because he terms himself as 'peacemaker'.

Where is the promise of ending Ukraine war in one day?

Trump need another peace deal between Pakistan and TTP to claimed a Nobal peace prize. ::kp

This award should be abolished because it's completely political and cheapens the prestige of the other awards that are given to people who actually make groundbreaking achievements in their respective fields, be it science, mathematics, or literature. I mean, they’ve given this award to Henry Kissinger, Obama and Aung San Suu Kyi in the past. All responsible for the deaths of thousands of innocent people. Granted, they may not have known that Suu Kyi would turn into a genocidal maniac later on, but it still made them look really bad when it happened.

Even the decision to give it to Maria Corina Machado feels like it's driven more by the West's dislike of Maduro, with whom the US is currently escalating tensions in the Caribbean, and whom the CIA have tried to overthrow numerous times in previous years. Are you really going to tell me that the CIA is not backing/funding Maria Machado just like they were backing that previous opposition leader in Venezuela Juan Guaido?

Now Trump is going to cry for the coming few years how he got robbed from getting the Nobel Peace Prize.

He promised he will end all wars the day he takes office. Wars are still going on. No cake for Trump.

White House blasts Nobel Committee for not awarding Peace Prize to Trump

The White House has accused the Nobel Committee of placing "politics over peace" for awarding its most coveted prize to a Venezuelan pro-democracy activist over President Donald Trump.

On Friday, the Committee announced María Coria Machado would receive the Peace Prize for her "tireless work promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela".

Trump has been outspoken about his desire for the award, taking credit for ending several global conflicts. He regularly brought it up, including during his address to the UN General Assembly in September.

"The Nobel Committee proved they place politics over peace," White House communications director Steven Cheung said after the announcement.

Trump truly deserved one for saving the biggest democracy from total annihilation.

LOL. I expected this.

Orange man is very childish.

The only reason Trump wants it is because Obama was awarded it. I hope they give one to Biden, which will make Trump even more mad.

Obama getting the prize ruined it forever.

Trump is more deserving for sure.
I agree, Obama did nothing to deserve it and only got it for becoming President.

Trump on the other hand is complicit in genocide and doesn’t deserve it either.

Andhbhakhts talk about 1971 as if Feku was the Prime Minister back then. They love bragging about 1971 but can't bring themselves to give Congress the credit for it. :inti

Nobel Peace Prize Winner Maria Corina Machado Dedicates Award To Donald Trump

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize on Friday to President Donald Trump for his “decisive support” of their cause.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee (NNC) granted the prize Friday to Machado for “promoting democratic rights for the people of Venezuela and for her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy,” according to a press release. Machado promptly dedicated her prize to “the suffering people of Venezuela” and the American president.

Trump has long sought a Nobel Peace Prize. However, the deadline for nominations is Jan. 31, according to the Nobel Prize website. The prize was handed out to Monchado days after the first phase of a peace deal negotiated in part by the Trump administration was agreed upon between Hamas and Israel, potentially ending the two-year conflict.

“This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer freedom,” Monchado wrote on X.

This recognition of the struggle of all Venezuelans is a boost to conclude our task: to conquer Freedom.

We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic…

— María Corina Machado (@MariaCorinaYA) October 10, 2025

“We are on the threshold of victory and today, more than ever, we count on President Trump, the people of the United States, the peoples of Latin America, and the democratic nations of the world as our principal allies to achieve Freedom and democracy,” she continued. “I dedicate this prize to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump for his decisive support for our cause!”

A statement from Machado said she dedicates the prize “to the suffering people of Venezuela and to President Trump.”

Trump showed support for Machado in January for “peacefully expressing the voices and the WILL of the Venezuelan people with hundreds of thousands of people demonstrating against the regime.”

Machado was praised by the committee for standing up against Venezuela’s “brutal, authoritarian state” for years.

She secured election to the country’s National Assembly back in 2010, The New York Times (NYT) reported. Although nearly 8 million people have fled the country, Machado stayed behind to run as the opposition presidential candidate against President Nicolas Maduro, according to the committee.

Machado’s candidacy was blocked by the regime over allegations of financial irregularities from her time as a legislator and she endorsed another candidate in 2024, the NYT reported.

Machado mobilized observers across the country to ensure election transparency. The committee described the opposition’s efforts in Venezeuala as “innovative and brave, peaceful and democratic.” (RELATED: Republican Buys Dominion Voting Systems, Forces Them To Drop Lawsuits Against Conservatives)

The opposition claimed that they had won the election, but Maduro refused to step down, according to the NYT.

“María Corina Machado meets all three criteria stated in Alfred Nobel’s will for the selection of a Peace Prize laureate. She has brought her country’s opposition together. She has never wavered in resisting the militarization of Venezuelan society. She has been steadfast in her support for a peaceful transition to democracy,” the committee said.

Those three criteria are disarmament, a brotherhood between nations and peace congresses, according to the Nobel Peace Center.

Machado is a CIA puppet. She openly supports sanctions and foreign intervention against her own country, supports US attacks on Venezuelan ships. She’s even gone so far as to urge Argentina and Israel to help engineer regime change in Venezuela, and has vowed to open a Venezuelan embassy in occupied Jerusalem if she ever came to power.

Awarding this willing tool of American imperialism only reaffirms how meaningless and politically motivated the Nobel Peace Prize is.

Lol atleast he got some peace prize finally

United States President Donald Trump received the inaugural Fifa Peace Prize before the draw for the 2026 Fifa World Cup.

The award has been introduced this year by Fifa president Gianni Infantino, designated for a person who has "taken exceptional and extraordinary actions for peace" and "united people across the world".

It was widely expected that Trump - who arrived at the ceremony with Infantino and has made several public appearances with him in recent months - would receive the prize.

He was confirmed as the winner at the ceremony in Washington DC on Friday.

As well as receiving a large golden trophy, Trump was also given a medal and certificate by Infantino before making a speech.

Donald Trump was presented with the Fifa Peace Prize trophy

Trump stated he had saved "tens of millions of lives" through diplomatic interventions and "stopped wars happening just before they started".

"This is truly one of the great honours of my life," he said, before claiming that the 2026 World Cup has set a new record for ticket sales.

"Gianni has done an incredible job. It is a nice tribute to you and the game of football, or as we call it soccer. It is beyond the numbers we thought were possible," Trump said.

"The world is a safer place now. The USA was not doing well a year ago; now we are the hottest country in the world right now."

The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, and will take place between June 11 and July 19.

FIFA making up a peace prize for Donald Trump is quite possibly the most embarrassing thing I’ve ever witnessed.

This is more like Star Plus hero of the year awards 😂😂🤣🤣

The FIFA president recently awarded Trump a prize for his commitment towards peace and stopping conflicts.

1765275128583.png

Trump when accepting the award mentioned that stopping the war between India and Pakistan was amongst his accomplishements.

This war took place where cricketers were directly affected. The Indians tried to bomb Rawalpindi stadium resulting in foreign players being evacuated from Pakistan. An IPL game was also called off, as despite Indian attempts to downplay what was happening and keep the tournament going, the situation became so serious that they could not control the effects of any retaliation.

During this time, President Trump accepted Modi's request for a ceasefire and the war stopped. Some players left the region but the leagues ultimately continued much to the relief of cricket enthusiasts around the world.

Had the war continued then the Asia cup and 2026 T20 world cup would also have likely not happened. This would have been a crushing blow to the wider cricketing economy, and could have been catastrophic to smaller nations who depend on India Pakistan games in ICC tournaments. Trump's actions have probably saved cricket, and definitely saved the ICC too.

Fifa gave Trump a peace prize on behalf of 5 billion football fans, however, what Trump has done for cricket is arguably bigger.

As a humble fan of the game, I would like to request ICC chief Jay Shah to present Trump with the Inaugural ICC Peace Prize for his services to the game. Please join me in this movement and use all available channels to make sure that Jay Shah does the right thing and rewards him.

Thank you for your attention to this matter

Fifa accused of breaching own rules with Trump award

Fifa's ethics committee has been asked to investigate president Gianni Infantino, claiming he broke the governing body's rules on political neutrality in relation to United States president Donald Trump.

Infantino awarded Trump with the inaugural Fifa peace prize at the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington DC last week, and has also done social media posts and interviews in support of the 79-year-old.

Human rights campaign group FairSquare has written a letter of complaint, which BBC Sport has seen, alleging Infantino has "committed four clear breaches" of Fifa's neutrality rules.

"The award of a prize of this nature to a sitting political leader is in, and of itself, a clear breach of Fifa's duty of neutrality," the letter stated.

"The Fifa president does not have the authority to unilaterally dictate the organisation's mission, strategic direction, policies and values."

BBC Sport has contacted football's world governing body for comment.

Infantino and Trump stood side by side during the glittering ceremony at the Kennedy Center for next year's tournament, which takes place in the US, Canada and Mexico from 11 June-19 July.

As well as a large golden trophy, Trump received a medal and certificate from Infantino, who said "this is what we want from a leader" and "you can always count, Mr President, on my support" during a speech that followed a video before the presentation.

In October, the 55-year-old posted on Instagram saying Trump "definitely deserves" the Nobel Peace Prize.

During an interview in November at the American Business Forum in Miami, Infantino also added: "We should all support what [Trump] is doing [in the US] because I think it's looking pretty good."

FairSquare also alleged a video post by Infantino on Instagram in January - following his invite to Trump's inauguration - "indicates support for President Trump's political agenda".

Nicholas McGeehan, FairSquare's programme director, added: "This complaint is about a lot more than Infantino's support for President Donald Trump's political agenda.

"More broadly this is about how Fifa's absurd governance structure has allowed Gianni Infantino to openly flout the organisation's rules and act in ways that are both dangerous and directly contrary to the interests of the world's most popular sport."

Venezuelan Nobel winner emerges to collect prize in Oslo after months in hiding

Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado, who has been in hiding for months, has told the BBC that she knows "exactly the risks" she's taking by travelling to Norway to collect her Nobel Peace Prize.

Machado appeared in Oslo in the middle of the night, waving from the balcony of a hotel. It was the first time she has been seen in public since January.

The 58-year-old made the covert journey despite a travel ban and a threat from the Venezuelan government that she would be labelled as a fugitive.

In an emotional moment, Machado waved to cheering supporters who had gathered outside the Norwegian capital's Grand Hotel, blowing them kisses and singing with them.

To their delight, she then came outside and greeted them in person, climbing over the security barricades to get closer.

"Maria!" "Maria!" they shouted, holding their phones aloft to record the historic moment.

The Nobel Institute awarded Machado the prize this year for "her struggle to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy" in Venezuela. Earlier on Wednesday, her daughter, Ana Corina Sosa, accepted the Nobel Peace Prize on her mother's behalf.

Until Wednesday night, the mother of three had not seen her children in about two years, having sent them away from Venezuela for their own safety.

In an interview with the BBC's Lucy Hockings after her balcony appearance, Machado said she had missed their graduations, and the weddings of her daughter and one of her sons.

"For over 16 months I haven't been able to hug or touch anyone," she said. "Suddenly in the matter of a few hours I've been able to see the people I love the most, and touch them and cry and pray together."

During the BBC interview, Machado had many rosary beads hanging around her neck, which she said supporters had given to her outside the hotel.

There has been much speculation about whether she will be able to safely return to Venezuela.

"Of course I'm going back," she told the BBC. "I know exactly the risks I'm taking."

"I'm going to be in the place where I'm most useful for our cause," she continued. "Until a short time ago, the place I thought I had to be was Venezuela, the place I believe I have to be today, on behalf of our cause, is Oslo."

Considered one of the country's most respected voices in Venezuela's opposition, Machado has long denounced President Nicolás Maduro's government as "criminal" and called on Venezuelans to unite to depose it.

She was barred from running in last year's presidential elections, in which he won a third six-year term in office. The vote was widely dismissed on the international stage as neither free nor fair, and many nations view his rule as illegitimate.

The Maduro government has repeatedly threatened her with arrest, accusing her of calling for a foreign invasion and labelling her a terrorist for protesting against the election results.

Last month, Venezuela's attorney general said Machado would be considered a fugitive if she travelled to Norway to collect her prize, saying she was accused of "acts of conspiracy, incitement of hatred, and terrorism".

It made her journey to Norway difficult and risky.

The details of the trip were kept so tightly under wraps, that even the Nobel Institute did not know where she was or whether she would be in Oslo in time for the prize ceremony.

The Wall Street Journal reports that to escape Venezuela, Machado wore a disguise, managed to get through 10 military checkpoints without being caught, and sailed away on a wooden skiff from a coastal fishing village.

The plan was two months in the making, it reports, citing a person close to the operation, and she was assisted by a Venezuelan network that helps people flee the country. The US was also involved, the report says, but it is unclear to what extent.

Machado did not deny these details to the BBC, but also would not elaborate on the journey.

"They [the Venezuelan government] say I'm a terrorist and have to be in jail for the rest of my life and they're looking for me," she said. "So leaving Venezuela today, in these circumstances, is very, very dangerous.

"I just want to say today that I'm here, because many men and women risked their lives in order for me to arrive in Oslo."

Jorgen Watne Frydnes - chairman of the Norwegian Nobel Committee, who sat with Machado during the interview - had described her journey to Norway as "a situation of extreme danger".

Sitting next to her during the BBC interview, he said it was an "emotional" moment for him.

"In the middle of the night to have you here, it's incredible," he said. "It's hard to describe what it means to the Nobel committee and to all of us."

Machado accused Maduro's regime of being funded by criminal activities such as drugs and human trafficking, repeating calls for the international community to help Venezuela "cut those inflows" of criminal resources.

"We need to address this regime not as a conventional dictatorship, but as a criminal structure," she told the BBC.

Maduro has always vehemently denied being connected to cartels.

When asked whether she would support a US military strike on Venezuelan soil, given Washington's recent attacks on alleged drug vessels, Machado did not answer directly but instead accused Maduro of "giving away our sovereignty to criminal organisations".

"We didn't want a war, we didn't look for it… it was Maduro who declared war on the Venezuelan people," she added.

Machado says she and her team are ready to form a government in Venezuela, and that she offered to sit down with Maduro's team to work out a peaceful transition, but "they rejected it".

The BBC asked Nobel Committee chairman Mr Frydnes whether a possible violent takeover to unseat Nicolás Maduro would contradict her Peace Prize.

He said the burden for peace should be placed on the current Venezuelan government: "The power lies in the Maduro regime, they have the responsibility to make sure this is a peaceful transition."

Even after she was barred from the election last year, Machado continued to campaign for the candidate who replaced her on the ballot, Edmundo González.

Maduro was declared the winner, even though polling station tallies showed that González had won by a landslide.

After her Peace Prize win was announced in October, Machado made a point to praise US President Donald Trump, who is open about his own ambitions for the Peace Prize and is locked in ongoing military tension with Venezuela.

On Wednesday, he announced the US military had seized an oil tanker off the coast of Venezuela, a sharp escalation in Washington's pressure campaign against Maduro's government.

The Trump administration alleges the vessel was under sanction and was involved in an "illicit oil shipping network supporting foreign terrorist organisations".

The Venezuelan government accused the US of theft and piracy.
