England (130/2) inflict an 8-wicket defeat on India (124/7) in the 1st T20I

Pant debuted for India in February 2017. World Cup was in May 2019. Let's not make it like he was just born a year before the World Cup.

Not saying they should've picked him no matter what, but they didn't give him a lot of ODIs in those 2 years and then suddenly thrust him at the World Cup stage. That is just poor planning.

Everyone knew Pant was not a finished product at time of WC. and him debuting in 2017 in a t20 is not reason for him to be played in odis. so basically he was not in any plans.
Pant is 21 and Iyer 25 so nothing is lost in terms of time , will be main ones for next WC

Wait a sec... I thought teams like India blast big scores like 200+ regularly in T20...had this been Pakistan crawling to such a meagre total, the knives would have been out...

May be because it happens too often with Pakistan than with India? Have you thought through that before basing your entire opinion on one match.

And are you seeing any flowers being showered on Indian team now lol

Pant is 24. :afridi

England batsmen look like the most natural hitters currently in the world. Effortlessly they smash the bowlers

Like I said, poor planning. Pant, who hardly played any ODIs, being picked as a replacement over the player who Kohli himself said will be the No. 4 going forward, Rayudu. Not only Rayudu not make it into the initially announced squad, when one of the players in the squad got injured, he couldn't even make it over a player who only played a handful of ODIs. If you didn't trust Rayudu, then why back him for so long? Why waste so many games when it could have been better utilised on someone else?

If nothing else, they should have at least backed him till the World Cup was over. Backing him for so long then dropping him right before the World Cup shows Kohli can't identify the right talent.

Can anyone from India say why no Manish Panday in the present Indian side? This guy averages 44+ in T20 for India in 39 T20I!

Cant judge a player on couple of outings in SA. It's not just weakness agaimst short balls that determine plauer's overall ability. Players like saurav and raina have had successful careers in spite of being poor against short pitch balls

That doesnt cut it anymore. There shouldnt be any obvious weakness. Even if you do, you have to have special skills to compensate like Saurav did.

Answer is simple. He is not a box office and crowd pulling player like someone who averages just 18. :inti

He didn't grab his chances in the last few series. It was Iyer vs Manish and Iyer it is

The gulf between Eng and Indian pacers is just incredible. Bumrah takes this bowling unit to next level and is soo important.

I like the way how current Indian management do their homework with the match ups along with weak and strong areas of opposition batsmen. While it sounds like an obvious thing to do but, not many teams are able to successfully do that.

Roy is so dangerous. Soon Chahal would start doing the dew drama by rubbing his hands on the sand again and again.

Even alongside Bumrah and Shami, I believe Indian team needs one tall pacer with strong action in whiteball cricket as well to have that extra variety with bounce and angle. Hardik does that job sometimes but he isnt consistent enough and his fitness issues are there as well. Ishant at this age is being mainly considered a test specialist while Khaleel hasnt developed till now as expected. Tyagi is one option to add bit of variety if India can develop him, was really impressed with him at U 19 level.

India will need to prepare minefields like 3rd test to stop england from winning T20 WC

Dhawan out... Rohit in

Kohli out.... Kishan in.

Axar out...Jadeja in..

Shardul out... Natarajan in.

Bhuvi out.... Bumrah in.

Chahal out... Varun Chakravarthy in...

Then we'll have a good chance at reaching the T20 wc final and losing to England.

:jk

Agree. Shami's SR isn't that great either. But he's a wicket taker.

Kohli isn't going anywhere. :inti

Washington Sundar not bowling in the powerplay.... :)))

Kohli never fails to surprise with his ever growing stupidity...

England were idiots to rest Buttler for the tests!

He is capable of being a game changer just like Pant was for India. Foakes is a brilliant keeper but a timid batsman, cannot bat higher than 8.

Playing bess ahead of moeen and broad was the highlight

You forgot the playbook of this Indian team. It is expected to loose the first few matches badly and then comeback and win. Wait atleast till 3rd match.

Axar is taken to the cleaners. Don't think he will get another game. Three spinners is an overkill

Still remember Warner and Finch smashing us to smithereens at the Wankhede last year....

This looks quite similar. :inzi

I guess Indian bowlers are certified because they have bowled well against Australia...

They have made such a big stadium but the playing field is a mickey mouse one.

Chahal doing his usual stuff. Flighting up and Roy smashing SIX.

Dhawan and Patel were probably wrong selections. Should see some changes in the next game. 2 spinners should be enough.

Rob Key and Nasser Hussain giving it back to the Indians just like Isa IPL Guha used to when Pakistan would play England

Even a bowling attack of Bumrah, Starc, Ferguson, Rashid Khan and Shakib won't be able to defend anything below 170 against this English batting lineup.
