What's new

England (281 & 275) defeat Pakistan (202 & 328) by 26 runs to win the 2nd Test, win series 2-0

Rules have changed that soft signal only works if technology fails and it didn't...so it was Wilson's ultimate decions...but we should not have fallen for the leg side stranglw trap but not only did we did, but twice...this is of our own making...

Only found out about the rule change now.

Looking at the images on twitter does not look good.

Listening to Joel Wilson, he sounded like a man who did not know this rule.

Sounded like he was trying to convince himself it was out so he did not go against his colleague.

Aleem did nothing wrong in live it looked out, and rightly it got reviewed. 3rd umpire fault.

Yeah, people are just taking out their frustration on Aleem. Even on TV without slo-mo it looks out. It is Wilson who should have overturned it based on the visual evidence. However, he deemed it inconclusive and upheld Aleem's decision. Aleem has been atrocious in this test but it'd be harsh to pin this on him.

Salman agha needs to back himself. His last domestic innings was 158* and played very well. Needs to apply himself ,hog strike and become a jero.

Am I the only one who is seeing a pattern of Pakistani batsmen getting caught down the leg side? Is it a deliberate ploy by Eng or just soft dismissals?

Reality is 2 legside strangles, why play the ball like that when there is a leg slip in place, it's catching practice (in case of 2nd one not a catch)

Poor stuff from nawaz and Saudi.

England had a leg slip in place so was a clear ploy to get wickets.

Dismissal of Saud might free him up, yes. But he looks very unsure at the crease against pacers and looks like a prime candidate for bowled/LBW.
Furthermore, the complete incompetence of the tailenders means that he wouldn't be able to get the job done even if he starts playing well. They would attack with pace on both ends and it might be over in 15-30 mins after lunch.

Lot of magical victories have happened with lower order in recent times. SL's win in SA, England's win against Australia. So Pakistan should back themselves to scratch around and win it.

If salman can stay there and I think abrar can bat a bit. Just play positive and reduce the target. Take it each 10-15 runs. Maybe they can get there

I gotta say Pakistan did most of the things absolutely spot on. Targeting spinners. Playing out seamers.

Umpires can give leg byes if the batsman was taking evasive action. A batsman taking evasive action has nothing to do with whether they were playing a shot for an LBW.

Whether it is for LBW or not, a batter taking evasive action is CONSIDERED playing a shot. Don't try to make things up here. Here, the batter was clearly taking evasive action and hence playing a shot.

LOL.

Are Pakistan going to be 2nd time unlucky?

Shan masood is a better player of short bowling , he must play in the next match. Doesnt have to open ,may be in middle order somewhere.

Sarfraz ahmed should replace mohammaz rizwan.

Didn't they give soft signal last match?

Shafique was lucky to survive a confident caught behind appeal by Ollie Pope off a rising delivery. Although umpire Joel Wilson gave a soft signal for out, television official Marais Erasmus over-ruled it.

Again, you dont get what I wrote. I will quote the Cricinfo statement:

"Nitin: "Should have been not out. Soft signal is the worst idea in cricket." -- Just to clarify: the soft signal is no longer relevant in decisions like that, and is only used if the technology fails to load.
England vs Pakistan, England in Pakistan, 2nd Test

So going by what Cricinfo stated, the umps will still give the soft-signal, in case the technology is unavailable/down. Once the technology is available, then the third umpire needs to discard the on-field decision and make a decision purely based on what's presented by the replays.

You're wrong, nowhere in the laws does it state evasive action is playing a shot or should be considered as part of an LBW. The leg bye law states a batsman can score leg byes if they're playing a shot OR taking evasive action but that is all. Randomers on a forum getting this incorrect I can understand, an ICC elite umpire getting it wrong is pretty appalling stuff.

The team can go to hell after dropping second series on HOME against SENA teams. They can play anybody they like; they should get booed by people at Karachi.

Whether the catch is carried or not , this tickling down the legside bouncer not once but twice is something Pak does very often..

So many times they have done this, and im sure England got this data in their pocket, if nothing works just give them the juice of leg side bouncer and fancy the chances..

Fair enough. Joe wilson has the authority to over-rule.

Waqar while wanting to say that Pakistani batters should still take singles, "They should keep PLUGGING those singles"

If they do not get a wicket in the next over or 2, think you may see short balls at both ends with Stokes coming into the attack.

Either that or Stokes is not fit to bowl.

This will end soon. Abrar is only going to get 3-4 lucky boundaries with a technique like that.

Abrar showing more bravery than all our proper batsmen combined.

Oh yar khuda ke liye just be positive we will get these runs being brave and not technically correct!!!!

Easier to do that when nothing is expected of you as a batter.
Nawaz was playing fine, he just was silly with his shot selection. They had a plan and he fell for it.

Tail should bat exactly like this. England has already lost a test match by overdoing short ball against tailenders. Will this be the second one

Like I said, this was never going to last for more than 3-4 boundaries. You cant fluke you way to 30-40 runs, especially by playing shot a ball.

I’m not counting Nawaz in that statement, I always saw him as a bowling all rounder. Even though this year he stepped it up a notch

Zahid can bat too somewhat. Maybe not a trailblazer, but we have all the time we need to get these runs.

Nothing but respect for Abrar, no fear of failure for this lad and a good cameo.

Agha Salman at the other end is looking like a tail-ender to be fair.

I would wait till 5th/6th ball to get the boundary off Wood's over and then trust Zahid to block away Anderson/Robinson from the other end. Cant expose Zahid to Wood at all.

Salman looking like he's trying to do an Azhar in UAE and just take singles

Oh yar khuda ke liye just be positive we will get these runs being brave and not technically correct!!!!

O bhai, you cant score 65 runs by playing shot on EVERY BALL! See what happened to him in the end? There is difference between being positive and brainless/mindless slogging.

How Nawaz was playing generally was the perfect mix of attack and defense.

Once again Englamd finding reverse just when it was needed. Pakistan's seam bowling is utter trash. If you had a competent pace unit, it would have been 2-0 Pakistan.

To add insult to injury Pak paying millions in security just to get humiliated by aus & Eng in there own conditions!!

But England batting didn't really do much damage. They committed harakiri and gifted their wickets. Pakistan said 'hold my beer" lol with their first innings collapse

Again contended babar will say we fought till the end only to lose the match. Pathetic
