What's new

England [305/8] defeat New Zealand [186] by 119 runs to reach Semi-finals of World Cup 2019

We have played better cricket overall.

Pakistan at the moment is playing pretty well, with victories over England, NZ and SA they should have a claim to a SF spot. However, they blowout loss to WI and heavy defeat against India have put their NRR into a very deep hole. Got to be consistent at this level.

Turn the lights off, NZ are done and dusted.

The knives are out for Pak now. Shoaib and Ramiz will lead the way.
Poor Sarfaraz, i really pity his plight when he returns.

The most disappointing team of the tournament is south Africa if they had played well they would have been in the top 4 instead of nz who will lose badly in semis

It would be quite funny if New Zealand fluke the semi-final and final and win the World Cup.

Good to see you are back. Missed you on June 16th :)

I was around, was just not posting. Some of the Indian fans and their pessimism makes me sick. I miss the old days of 90s. Passionate fans but mediocre team.

Anyways I only saw the glimpse of match on June 16 was busy with work. I’m planning to take day off if we reach finals.

What you see here will be the same as what what you'll if Bangladesh bat first in a dead rubber, They'll make 300+ and Pak will crumble.

Grandhomme was playing against Pakistan like he is the next coming of Don Bradman and look at him today :yk

I always said Pakistan loss to WI will haunt them , not the loss but the big margin they lost by

That would require all the luck kiwis can get. At this point NZ seems weakest of the top four. If they don’t get their acts together it would be a massacre against Aussie.

I wrote pre-match opener, the WI game will be the key game for Pakistan in the tournament. Pakistan went in blind and foolish thinking plenty more games to go and now must accept this fatal peformance.

Time for Malik, Sarfraz and Hafeez to start thinking of retirement.

I believe that game against WI destroyed our NRR.

Blame should be given to Pakistan victories as well. With only 3 wickets down we should have chased down against nz in 45 over rather 50 and also against afg in 40 overs instead of 50. Our slow victories are also responsible for bad NRR.

Yeah, but Sarf needs to go because ultimately he has failed for the last two years, along with Hafeez and Malik.

Pakistan has been inconsistent that is what caused Pak to miss semi spot. Overall they played well. They should’ve destroyed Afghanistan, instead they were lucky to even win that game.

It doesnt matter if you've beaten England or not getting destroyed by WI and huffing and puffing against Afg negates the good wins.

And losing to India by 89 runs.

NZ lost last two 2 games by some margin and another huge defeat likely today. The defeat against WI was like losing four points

Just a bunch of trolls, or rather just two. I am sure you know who I am referring to, just ignore them.

RRR past 8, six wickets down. I think England are in the semis.

I hope.

The only odd one is SA who has had a disastrous tournament but pretty much the best top 4 sides in the world have reached the semi finals. And the rest have stayed true to their rankings.

Lesson is to become consistent and not try to take pride in unpredictability. Unpredictability is just an euphemism for inconsistency and Pakistan needs to understand that bits and pieces cricketers like Sarfraz, Shadab and Imad are useless. Imad and Shadab will win you a game once in 25 games but that's not good enough.

Against the top 5 sides, Pakistan have won 6 times out of 31 matches recently prior to the world cup which is ridiculously poor. You cannot expect to win World Cups with that sort of a record. That is borderline minnow-esque.

And in a way it's a good thing that Pakistan is eliminated now as everything would've been masked had the team reached the semis like it did when Pakistan won the champions trophy.

All the talk of England not being able to handle pressure blah blah has turned out to be drivel. They have produce two stellar performances under immense pressure.

Their years of hard work was not going to go down the drain because that is what a few naysayers predicted. Success is a process and it is earned.

Brilliant post as usual.

As an International team , the huge margin by which Pakistan lost against WI shows the lack of situation awareness , its poor thinking

Except the fact that they are actually short of wickets unlike you know who :yk

The last 4 Indian batsmen were Yadav, Chahal, Shami and Bumrah. At most they should be counted as 0.5 normal wickets rather than 4.

We don't have the batsmen for blitzkrieg type chase apart from Fakhar but he's been failing of late.

I really don't know when we got so bad.

Can't think of a weaker SF team in a longtime.

We looked better in the James Franklin days..

saw this on twitter

If New Zealand lose by 150 runs, Pakistan will hv to win by 270 runs against Bangladesh. If New Zealand lose by 100 runs, Pakistan need to win by 325 runs!

Correct ? :inti

Lol. Exactly. People keep saying 5 wickets in the shed but the combined batting IQ and talent of those 4 is 2 runs

Bruh they started playing slow as soon as Dhoni arrived since the Dhoni and Pandya partnership. Even had many wickets in hand. P.S. Its understandable if you are playing slow in the 32nd over instead of 40 overs or so

The asking rate is nearing 10 and there are no signs of any acceleration from the New Zealand batters. Hope we don't see another debate on intent.

They actually scored 35+ runs in the last 5 overs. Exaggeration at its best. - @Referring to the guy who said India score 11 in last 5 overs

Kiwis just double sureing they don't leave any outside chance for Pakistan in the next game.

I would like to think, easier opponents in the first half of the tournament kinda masked their deficiencies and gave an impression of a great team.

IMHO, this is a pretty weak NZ team (especially on batting front) for semis. OZs must feel quite good about their chances for yet another Finals.

Target for NZ is 60 runs in 17 overs with 4 wickets in hand, this will make sure Pak will need a mammoth margin to go past Desh.

West Indies ney itna bhi nahi socha jab koi bhi nahi khelta tha unke saath toh hum khelte hote they...

:((

lets me honest they have been gifted the last 2 games. Teams focusing more on NRR then going for the win. If the last 2 games were meaningful and England won i would agree with you.
