What's new

England (332/7) beat Pakistan (331/9) by three wickets to win the ODI series 3-0

Pakistan probably didn't have enough runs on board. They were too slow initially.

Congratulations, England.

snail like batting at start of inns from imam and babar cost pakistan match. selfish batting got what it deserved.

Pakistan's fielding and bowling in the last 15 overs was a shambles but does anyone feel that on this pitch Pakistan probably were 20-30 short of par?

350 isn't a safe total on flat pitches these days, I feel it's a bit harsh to criticise Pak bowling alone for the loss.

Pakistan need a culture change. There's talent and depth in there, it's just they're playing a game that's decade old. Individual brilliance cannot win you every game.

England surprised everyone not because they have amazing talent but because even their fringe players have bought into the culture of positive cricket come what may and they end up winning more often than not.

Yes...this England B team will give most international team run for their money... undoubtedly best white ball team I have seen in last 20 years..

“Best white ball team?”, seriously?

They beat only Pakistan, not some Ind/NZ/AUS buddy.

I still think Pakistan team is too weak from numbers 5 to 8; after trying Iftikhar, Talat, Khushdil, Asif, to name just four, we have now come to Saud and Maqsood, not sure how long this will last!

As for Shadab, surely Nawaz or Imad are a better option; better bowlers, better batters.

And, now Faheem?..Ok, he is an occasional wicket taker but a terrrible, terrible Odi/T20 batter. I'm sure anyone can contribute as much as he does with a bat at no 8. A better option, in my opinion would be Usman Qadir.

And, a comment on Hasan, Afridi and Haris, unusual for ALL to have a terrible day at the office, all at the same time. A dicipline performance by just one would have taken us over the line.

Challo...next time.

Embarrassed to be a pakistani fan rn, utterly embarrassing loss heads need to roll

Despite a career-best 158 from Babar Azam, Pakistan were unable to take out the third ODI against England.

Sent out to bat, Pakistan finished with what looked a competitive total of 331/9 thanks to Babar's century and fifties from Imam-ul-Haq (56) and Mohammad Rizwan (74).

Unfortunately for the tourists, it did not prove enough as England chased down the target with two overs and three wickets to spare, courtesy of a maiden ODI ton from James Vince and an impressive 77 from Lewis Gregory.

Pakistan's innings got off to a less than ideal start when Saqib Mahmood (3/60) had Fakhar Zaman (6) caught in the cordon for six. A patient 56 off 73 from Imam in a 92-run stand with Babar helped Pakistan build a solid platform, but when the opener fell in the 26th over the tourists were only 113/2, scoring at a slow 4.34 per over.

With Rizwan's arrival, Pakistan went up a gear. The keeper and the skipper put on 179 runs in just 20 overs before Rizwan fell for 74 off 48 to Brydon Carse (5/61) in the 46th over. Having taken 72 balls to score his first 50 runs, Babar only needed another 32 deliveries to bring up his ton, and another 30 from there to race to 150.

By the time he perished in the 50th over to Carse, who finished with figures of 5/61, he had blazed 158 runs off 139 balls, hitting 14 fours and four sixes along the way.

The early fall of Dawid Malan (0) to Hasan Ali (1/69) gave Pakistan plenty of reason to hope and they remained in the contest right until the death, with England seven down when they still needed another 29 runs to win.

Batting with typical aggression, England raced past 50 in the opening six overs thanks to a quickfire 37 off 22 from Phil Salt, who perished to Haris Rauf (4/65). The best of Pakistan's seamers on the day, Rauf picked up a second in the 13th over when he bowled Zak Crawley for 39, but by that stage, England had marched to 104/3.

It was a theme the first half of the innings followed continually, with Pakistan taking regular wickets but England aways ahead of the required run rate. By the 24th over the hosts were 165/5, with Ben Stokes (32) and John Simpson (3) both falling to Shadab Khan (2/61).

However, with Vince in the middle, England's innings still had a source of stability. The right-hander had made his way to 48 off 43 by the time Simpson fell and in Gregory he found a partner for the long haul.

The pair put on 129 runs for England's sixth wicket, with Vince raising his ton off 91 balls, while Gregory raced to 77 off 69, with six fours and three sixes.

With the duo in the middle, the chase looked well and truly under control, but Rauf opened the door for Pakistan in the 43rd over, removing Vince for 102. The 30-year-old departed to warm applause from the crowd having hit 11 fours in a key innings.

Rauf struck again in his next over to dismiss Gregory to leave a Pakistan victory firmly on the cards. Alas, it was not to be as Craig Overton (18*) and Carse (12*) saw the hosts home.

Waqar handed a whitewash from Bangladesh which was a new low back then

Now Misbah handed a whitewash from England C team another new low

Also Misbah has lost games against Zimbabwe home and away + even a test match , how on earth Misbah can be celebrated this big and be appointed as coach cum selector for 3 years.

Look at the ego boosting mindset , he never dropped Asif ali and danish aziz to give chance to Abdullah, haider and Sarfraz back in SA . Here in England same team played 3 matches and being smashed a whitewash. With more matches under this coach , Pakistan will reach more new lows.

Such a ** from Wasim Khan, Mani and Imran Khan to have Misbah-Waqar with zero credentials to take the job..

300 plus used to be a safe total in the 80s and 90s; chasing teams won less than 5% of the time. Not any more. Good batting sides (bat deep) are able to chase down big totals 25% of the time (? more) - boundaries are short and (most) pitches are batting friendly

Bad bowling by the quicks. Too many boundaries conceded by them. Rauf too expensive. Vince along with Gregory turned it around for England

Pakistan were poor in the first 10 overs with the bat. Scored something like 37 runs. The final total however was a competitive one and bowlers should have done a better job

This guy lost his calm when tailender Amir smashed him for a four. He is just not good under pressure.

I agree, he is horrible under pressure. He leaks a lot when teams are on the charge, and does not compensate with wickets at all.

Problem are the fake allrounders who go missing when needed. This inflates our batting and bowling but in reality it's a farce. We need proper batsman and bowler at those positions. Imad should come back. He is far better

:starc u say proper batsman and proper bowlers and the next sentence u say Imad should be back lol. Talking like Shoaib Akthar lol

Defending 330+ against England's main side can be difficult. But is it soo difficult to defend 330 against this rookie English side?
I don't buy it.

Batsmen did their job, 330 should have been defended by bowlers.
Shaheen The Eagle Afridi disappointed the most.

Agreed it was defendable. Most posters believed that 275+ would be a good score and England will fold in 240's.
I saw some really poor fielding and spray gun bowling.

There's no way Pakistan should have lost that game after England were reduced to 160/5. Once again shows their glaring lack of ruthlessness to kill off games after getting into winning positions. Same thing happened in the second ODI where they let England to go from 160/7 to almost 250.

Not to forget the first test vs Eng on last Eng tour when Eng was struggling big time at 117/5 and they let Buttler and Woakes which was the last recognized pair to form 139 runs partnership allowing Eng to chase 277.

From the two W’s and Shoaib Akhtar to the current ordinary lot (Hassan, Shaheen and Rauf). Overhyped by some here but none of them is a true match winner. Foreign teams no longer scared of our bowling.

We have sadly embraced mediocrity!
