What's new

England [386/6] defeat Bangladesh [280] by 106 runs in the 12th match of the 2019 World Cup

Bangladesh need to make sure they lose by as less runs possible. NRR will come into it. BD, WI, PK, NZ are playing for the 4th spot. England, Aus, Ind basically confirmed.

We can consider this match a defeat.. so BD still have to play Aus, India and Pak and have to win 2/3 off these matches, then they also have to ensure victories by massive margins against SL, Afg and WI.

In other words..... time to book the flights back to Dhaka

I think, they backed to chase something around 300-320, but Roy took the game away. England is such a team that can f it clicks for them it’ll be flood. I am travelling today, otherwise that would have been first post at toss that we should bat first.

Prediction? Will they make 300+

Yes if they would have restricted Eng under 320, it would have been really possibly to chase on this wicket. Roy and in the end Plunkett Woakes partnership made the the difference to the total.

Bangladesh needs to invest in some pace bowlers , most first class teams around the world have better pace men currently.
Set up a pace foundation , try and find 1 or 2 guys who bowl 150 kph.

BD didn't give themselves the best chance to stay competitive. First cardinal mistake was to opting to field first. You don't do that against England. Then the second mistake was to overusing spinners on a pitch with some early life. If that was their strategy all along they should not have opted to field first as they were already set on using spinners upfront. Won't say they would have beaten them. But creating chasing pressure in world cup is the best way to go.

While Moen Ali was poor with bat, its pretty surprising that Eng have dropped their best bowler of the last game and that too considering he was an offie and BD has 3 left handers in top 3.

They needed to play Rubel and Liton.

Not sure why they kept the same XI?

This has always been tamims problem. All these dots. It’s why I hated shehzad.

BD chased 210 in a t20 against SL in Lanka but Liton Das made big difference. Without Liton and Sabbir this batting XI of BD lacks extra strength!

They didn't drop him. He is out for personal reasons.

Ather Ali Khan during backend of English innings was so annoying.Always whinening and crying

Absolute minnow thing to do is to not even attempt to chase and play out a maiden

Sarkar out he was the one suppose to charge. Shakib and Tamim best pair in

His wife is giving birth.

Neither forward neither back. Jheez. What hype this guy is. Just freaking go hard man! Play fearless. Down the wicket whack em! Nothing to lose. It’s like as if they never faced 90mph bowler?

Nothing personal but initially I wanted Bangladesh to win but now that there’s no chance of that, I want England to absolutely demolish them so their run rate takes a big hit. Good for Pakistan

What happened to Sabbr. Wasn’t he touted as the next big thing in Asia cup 2016?

Liton Das in next match. Sarkar out. Das goes hard and knows how to play pace well I remember he destroyed Oshane Tomas last series !

I don't think we are competing with BD for the 4th spot.

Stop posting rubbish and post about this match only. There's a reason why it's called a match thread.

No need to spoil every thread with petty arguments.

Nothing happened to Sabbir. If you follow any BD cricket news. Sabbir is in the squad but pathetic management and coach think Disco dancer Mithun is more worthy!

But if they lose which they will then they might as well take a big run rate hit

They still have Australia and India to play, West Indies and Sri Lanka arent forgone conclusion. I don't see Bangladesh getting through.

Beauty from Archer to get Sarkar. Archer is 24 and has bright future ahead. Considering he went for 79 with no wicket in last match shows one, two poor matches dont define you as a bowler especially with current conditions and regulations in ODIs.

I think we were bit harsh on Shaheen not saying he should be playing next match as Hasan, Wahab and Amir are at the moment looking better for the conditions on display. Also he was rightly dropped after poor lines against Afghanistan but I still believe guy has a lot of potential, he is just 19 still learning. Just needs to work on his fitness and fielding and he will be bowler to look out for in the future.

Bangladesh don't have the power to score big 300 scores. It's difficult to see them restricting England here.

BD's Batting Approach is Old Fashioned. They Prefer Technically Correct Accumators & Doesn't Encourage Big Hitting or Players Who Can Play Unorthodox Shots.
One Thing I Have Noticed is That Whenever a Wicket Falls They Get Bogged Down Even If They Are in a Commanding Position at That Point of Time. Style of Batting is Very Defensive,Out of Date(Excluding Soumya & Shakib).
Not Just Batting, Also in Bowling. If You Look at BD's Domestic Cricket Wrist Spinners & Unorthodox Off Spinners Aren't Even Get Picked in 15 Members Squads of Domestic Sides. Bangladesh's Love For Orthodox Finger Spin is Beyond Inexplicable. It's a Myth That Bangladesh Doesn't Have Wrist Spinners or Unorthodox Spinners. There's Plenty of Them But Sadly They Never Get The Chance to Showcase Their Talent.
With This Kind of One Dimensional & Archaic Approach I'm Afraid BD May Not Be Able to Take That Coveted Next Step Forward.

BD can target Adil Rasheed but required rate is too high from start needs to keep that in check since he comes to bowl

153 kph again from Archer. Wow, thats some consistent pace

Is that a labyrinth puzzle on Archer's head?

Dont remember last time I have seen an opening spell form a pacer with so many 150+ deliveries. It might have been Akhtar or Lee before this.

Faster you bowl, faster you go. BD are bot laying good bat onto the ball!

I reckon India batting will destroy Archer. Pak did.

What a contrast with bowling of two sides. Our phaaast bowlers huff puff to bowl one 140 km ball in entire spell whereas opposition bowlers are bowling in for fun.

If you bowl wrong lines and lengths than yes you will go distance but if you can bowl with accuracy with which Arther is bowling till now its going to be difficult for anybody.

BD need to change the mindset next match. Play 3 front line seamers, one pace ALR, maybe even drop Mossa for Sabbir, bring in Das for Mithun.

Joffra Archer doing basics right. Release bowl close to stumps/umpire and pitches it in the tram line, so that it counts when it swings away or in. Absolute charmer, unlike what amir has been lately

Rubel and Taskin can generate decent pace but more than the pace I think its the right areas with pace that make it really difficult. Rubel has increased his accuracy as well but with Saifuddin doing decently even today he bowled OK, BD didnt have any solid reason for change.

Look at the lines he is bowling, so accurate with no room to the batsmen. Amir is finding his rythm back as well.

I have my doubt on tamim age .he is not officially 30 he is around 33 or 34.His reflexes are alarmingly slow

If you can notice such things, why cant our bowling coach?

Not sure. But, i would at least want someone who has passion about playing cricket than being an average medium pace effortless bowling without aggression. Someone like shoaib akhtar, but with more maturity

Bangladesh need a leggie. I heard somewhere, that Nepalese leggie Lamichanne wants to represent Bangladesh in WC. If true, I’d take him in, BCB offer him BD citizenship!

Line is important but the main part of the basics is, the release point. This is where the coach helps. Get the wrist right. Run up easy. Release point right. These things.

I would be glad if Pakistan can snatch him. Class bowler.

I am not sure which other countries hire an all rounder as their bowling coach. Also there was nothing much in Azhar's coaching stints in domestics or anywhere that made him deserve the position.

Rubel is a must on belters like this. Fizz is struggling

Yes Amir's release position along with seam position has been off for almost couple of years now. Even in CT 17 final though he got the swing his release points werent perfect. I think its was maybe in Asia Cup 2016 when his release position was from much closer to the wickets.

It's sad to see these two accomplished batsmen being bullied in the middle of the pitch... horrific!

I love what New Zealand has done for their team. They hired Shane Bond. They could have just gone with Craig McMillain, their current batting coach as bowling coach, who also used to bowl slow medium pace bowling. But they wanted their A game for their bowling and they got it. Before that, they had bowlers like kyle mills, who were just average. Now, their bowlers are pretty lethal with new ball.
