What's new

England (465 & 373/5) cruise to a comfortable 5-wicket win over India (471 & 364) in the opening Test of the series

Non-existent would be a better word.
That's what happens when you have someone like Bumrah batting at no 9. His hyperextension arms aren't built for batting. He's a no 11 batter. The fact that india has 2 worse batters then him paints the sad picture of the tail

Makes me really value Naseem. At least he tries to stick with batters
Naseem is a great no 9, if he actually worked on his test game as a bowler I would love him as a no 9.

Issue is pakistan is pretty medicore in test pace bowling. Its why we went with doctored pitches and chose to spam sajid and noman

Pretty pathetic session of cricket from India. I can understand Gill being too new at his job to confidently ask the batters... especially guys like Nair fighting for their place in the team to play for the win.

What the hell was Gambhir doing though letting the game drift? He's coming off as a pretty poor test coach.

If rain stays away, I think we should have a winner considering England bat aggressively.

371 in 95 overs is nothing for them (if they don't get all out).

Shardul takur is so worthless. My blood is boiling seeing this guy. It’s a joke Karen Nair is fighting for his place. He really lost it badly. This team is pathetic nobody is willing to fight. Only 2 or 3 players are pulling the whole team. Gambhir is the worst coach.

This game is a perfect reason why Test matches don't need to be 4 day long. if they are then we will see a lot many draws, unless curators start making bowling friendly wickets only. Which I don't really want. i like variety.

Even if England lose this Test, I don't expect India to win the series. England should win the series or it should be a drawn series. :inti

India's best opportunity came during last tour. They were at their peak. It ended at 2-2.
I'm not so sure. It's now an absolute road pitch. Its flying.

Look at how good these bazballers are against pace even with seam/swing. Aqib was right preparing spin pitches for them while many were worrying about decline of fast bowlers

With rain around tomorrow I'm expecting a draw.
If it manages to stay away England will probably sink looking to bazz their way to the total.

India took control of the first Test thanks to brilliant centuries from KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant, before Josh Tongue’s explosive spell brought England back into the contest.

Rahul crafted a classical 137, while Pant added a typically flamboyant 118, putting India in a strong position for a fourth-day declaration. However, Tongue’s dramatic burst—claiming three wickets in four balls—sparked a collapse that saw India lose their last six wickets for just 31 runs and bowled out for 364. England were set a challenging target of 371.

By stumps on day four, England had safely reached 21 without loss from six overs, including three bowled by Jasprit Bumrah, keeping all four results on the table and setting the stage for a thrilling final day. Another Headingley classic could be on the cards.

Pant made history by becoming only the second batter to score centuries in both innings of a Test at this ground, and just the second wicketkeeper ever to achieve the feat anywhere.

Rahul was dropped on 58 by Harry Brook at gully, while Pant had slices of luck too, surviving two edges through an empty slip cordon on 31 and 45—both off Tongue. On 75, Pant also pierced past a diving Ben Stokes at cover off Shoaib Bashir, but it would have taken something special to catch it.

Headingley is no stranger to dramatic finishes and big chases, but England must contend with a pitch that’s beginning to show sharp bounce from a good length. Under Ben Stokes’ leadership, England have vowed never to play for a draw, and their attacking approach could be put to the test on Tuesday—especially with an unpredictable weather forecast adding another layer of intrigue.

If England win this Test (which I think they should), it can deflate Indian confidence and make them lose 0-5.

Hopefully England will win it and set the tone for the whole series. :inti

What will be your excuse if india win which is most likely (weather permitting). Keep the excuses ready :kp

England gonna collapse in a heap if rain doesn't take out half the day. Their brain fades will always be there as they can't help themselves and bowl will be hooping off an uneven surface

And people were calling this test boring after watching a few sessions!

Its test cricket and played over 5 days for a reason. No other sport gives you as much thrills and excitement over such a long period of time. Test cricket is such a unique sport, not played anywhere else.

It still is, tests are supposed to even contests between bat and ball. This test without Bumrah is still a snooze fest

TODAY IS THE DAY ENGLAND TAKE THE 1-0 LEAD.

Brooks Bradman will score a super century, root will itch closer to Tenda and Crawley will bazzball galore to victory.

They were tested.Bumrah should also be tested. He looks like a chucker. It is best to have him tested under lab conditions. The technology is very good now.We will know either way.
There's been no official complaint in Bumrah's action. Nobody thinks he chucks except a few frustrated fans.

Such pitches are good for Test cricket.

We got two aggressive batting lineups able to display their full talent and versatile bowlers with X factor and skillsets were also rewarded.

Spinners also did reasonably ok. Bashir controlled scoring in first inns until Pant got after him and despite being savaged in 2nd inns he got Pant out and opened match up.
Jadeja also created couple of chances in first inns and might do so in 2nd as well.

We are now entering a final day where all results are possible.

Hope Eng continue to make such pitches.

2-3 wickets in the first session & England will be playing for a draw.

If England lose only 1 till lunch, they will try to get to the target which looks highly unlikely.

They wont play for a draw ever. Stokes verbatim stated that he will take a loss over a draw as he doesnt wish to be classic timid england.

Even though england declined post 2019 in odi and t20 and declined in tests once anderson retired,

Eoin Morgan defo shaped this new belief in them to fight and attack and play aggressive.

That mentality hasnt faded away

I remember one of the test matches last year in India, England was set a target over 500 & they could only manage 120 in the 4th innings. They were playing for a draw & got bowled out.

I am going by what stokes stated yesterday. Not my fault if he's lying 😆
