What's new

England (465 & 373/5) cruise to a comfortable 5-wicket win over India (471 & 364) in the opening Test of the series

This was 3rd or 4th highest amount of swing that England found in an opening session since 2019 or smth.

But yeah bad decision at the toss.
Indian batsman performed well so far that's why they have to find some excuses without knowing the ground realities .:kp

Yeah I know!! I was honestly expecting the Ind team to struggle and be bowled out for 200 or so. Didn't know sweeper brother was "that" unbeatable for you. 🙂
When have I ever beaten him? In CT i was pleading with him not to make a prediction but he always made one?

There was a stat in the 1st session showing ENG haven't bowled the length to hit top of off enough.

Stokes bowling a spirited spell here. Good pace, bowling good short balls, tried a deadly slower one also that could have got Rishabh.

Already 33/2 for Stokes. He’s been the best so far for England and that’s not a very good sign. The others need to stand up

Yeah . They haven't been accurate enough. That's the issue.
Gotta give you credit. You've been riding the England downfall train since 2023. I remember you were the first person to predict that they'd fail miserably in 2023.

This was back when everyone was riding them high due to 2022 victory.

England should have bowled at least 70 overs by now but they've not bowled even 60 so far.

Virat Kohli and Sharma retired and now England offering flat pitches and a toothless bowling attack. Life is not fair sometimes.

@mominsaigol
I am fine with india winning. I dont hate indian team. Just cause I hate certain posters doesnt mean I despise team India.

I hate the following players

1) Ashwin
2) Jadeja
3) Bavuma
4) Rizwan
5) Babar
6) Laxman
and a few others.

Others like jaiswal, Pant, Harry Brooks etc etc I find overrated and I really like Travis Head.

Apologies if certain posters cant handle it and have this urge to make me a hero worshipper lol.

But when have I ever stated I hate India as a team? I have never rooted against them unless its vs Aus and Pakistan but I am a citizen of both?

So what's wrong with that? Have I ever despite india as a cricket team?

Are you claiming the pitch is a minefield and bowling is top tier? Be honest as ik you're not a trollish poster.
Sometimes cricket is more than pitch, conditions and even opposition. If you concentrate properly you can score big, similarly if you lose your focus you can collapse... How did 2001 Laxman/Dravid happened? Did the pitch suddenly turned super-flat after the way India collapsed in the first innings? And again did it become minefield when Australia batted last? Cricket is more about temperament, technique and discipline... Even to bat well on flat pitches you need to have a good technique and apply yourself... It just needs one delivery to lose your wicket (like it happened to Sai Sudarshan).

With my experience in viewing last 3-4 tours in England, I am pretty sure that England are not going to lay flat pitches to India, also with varying conditions (forecast, sun - appearing in random way), England is always a challenging place to play cricket... Even bowlers need to bowl well to pick wickets and seize the opportunity (Pandya a test-failure - due to fitness issues, could play a decisive role in one of the matches when he bowled well there).

So when the batsmen play well (at least in Test Cricket) we should acknowledge that and appreciate them... Indians have done reasonably well so far... I am sure this pitch is not as super-flat as Pakistani pitches (still Pakistan lose on those anyways!), I guess the match will see a result at least in day 5 OR at least the match will go into 4th innings... Scoreboard pressure (if team batting first in test matches score big in their first innings) is also a big factor and it can impact the match result...

Fair enough but Laxman and dravid played a great innings. Pitch wasnt flat at all. I admit that.

Im going off observation though. Dravid and laxman formed a great partnership whereas except for sai every batsmen is performing easily

This is probably India’s most balanced team to ever tour England; they have covered every area, no passengers and picked the right guys in these conditions.

Bashir has more chance of bagging wickets then others if he keeps on targeting stumps....It is the weakness of Indian battera

Not so much downfall. I was talking about their brand of cricket bring unsustainable against stronger teams/tougher conditions.

I'm aware, but I remember posters like Major and other Pakistani posters claiming you were talking nonsense.

When I first met you, I genuinely was like, seriously? Is this guy bonkers?

But I apologise for doubting you. You are goat poster. Top 3 on PP. (No I am not putting myself at 1 or 2 dw 🤣)

Even bangladesh have better pacers than this sorry state of england attack, you know things are bad when ben stokes is your best bowler who not even bowling regularly couple of years ago...Chris woakes is literally a club level bowler...my prediction india 5-0

Far to kind. I make far too many mistakes to be the GOAT poster. It's just that only ones with a keen eye can catch me :rabada2

Another 4-0 or 5-0 loading for England down under later this year.

This bowling attack is utter tripe.

England's top 4 choice bowlers right now should be Wood, Atkinson , Potts and Ollie Stone.

Dont know why they don't play Reece Topley in home tests.

They're treating this mediocre Bashir with way too much respect.

I loved the way Jaiswal and Jurel tore him a new one last year in India.

One hour left to end of day and 25 overs are still remaining. They are likely to Bowl 80 overs.

Another WTC points are likely to reduce as an penalty for England.

They can say good bye to reach in any WTC final because of overrate itself.

:kp

If Pant is a hack then we need some more hacks in XI like him instead of 'solid' test bats like Rahul.

I see haters have already started belittling our batting effort of today. Keep doing that, makes it all the more sweeter.

3 of them are injured. This is the problem England have. Their pacers break down too often.

500+ most likely.

England have the batting to reach that. They just have to see off Bumrah the "alleged chucker". :inti

The crucial thing is how much time India take to reach that , if you get 500 in five sessions , you can put opposition under pressure by having close fielders and attacking fields.

I just hope Root will score big in this series so that he can get closer to Tendulkar's record.

Would love to see Root break Tendulkar's record. :inti

After winning the toss and conceding so many they are unlikely to make a comeback.

Of course anything can happen but I know this England team and their abilities. They are behind the game now big time.
This England team strength is batting . They can score 550+ runs in 1st innings with High run rate.

India has only score 280 as of now . We may bundled out around 400. Enough cricket left

:kp

1st test in away series has traditionally been a safe opener for us. I can remember many series we opened like this and then the momentum changed during the next few tests.

Pant showing a maturity not seen from him in past. Good signs. Hope this continues. A mentally stable Pant is a menace in test cricket
