What's new

England close on 119/3 on Day 2 of the 2nd Test match at Lord's

India 8 down ,ishant gone . real time i thought impact is outside off

Massive reverse here. England getting desperate with their mints . :yk2 Gotta make sure we pay them back in kind.

As expected Pujara and Rahane are good for nothing. If Shastri and Kohli does not dump them after this performance, I don't know when they will do it. May be Kohli is keeping them so that his own pathetic performances will be masked by Rahane/Pujara performances.

As someone said above, Jaddu is one of our Top 3 batsmen now. He looks far more assured than Kohli too who keeps poking outside off stump. Jaddu also scores aggressively and takes the pressure off of the non-striker.

Jadeja can now bat at Top 6 as proper batsman (in place of one of those out-of-form batsman). India can then look for rest of the combinations.... His bowling will be a bonus (huge one in India). To start with (at domestic level) was actually a batsman! A superior version of Moeen Ali (or even Shakib)

jadeja doing well to scuff up the pitch in time for englands 2nd innings. no way he needs to come that far forward

We are essentially playing with 9 players. Pujara and Rahane are complete waste.

All Indian batsmen have been Anderson's bunny for the last 15 years, it's been a treat to watch.

Anderson is beyond special. What an inspiration.

The best 39 year old pace bowler ever.

WICKET! Jadeja c Anderson b Wood 40 - India 364 all out

Left with just Siraj for company, Jadeja goes on the offensive but skies the first ball of Mark Wood's over. Anderson is underneath it at mid on and pouches the catch. England have come back well on day two.

Still too many runs for England to get to.

I think India will end up with a 100 run lead.

This inning prove why jadeja was not successful in limited over at lower order .he just don't have that game

Pathetic batting by our lower order, yet again!

However when the entire batting lineup itself has only 2-3 functional batsmen then it's futile to blame the tail.

We could've batted England out of this test but we didn't. Thanks Kohli, Pujara and Rahane!

Ishant and Bumrah got out to brutal deliveries. Despite that , Ishant batted around 30 balls which is good enough. The problem is the middle order. Nothing else.

Just 2 boundaries by Jadeja while batting with the tail in this innings. Struggled to up the anti however a decent knock of 40 aside from that

James Anderson has a fifer against India at Lord's in 2007, 2011, 2018 and now 2021.

Yeah, won't blame the tail. It's 3, 4, 5 who are to be blamed. But that's not going to change anything.

These 3 will keep on making merry at the team's cost.

Pitch has flattened out quite a bit. Yet Indian Middle order and tail managed less than 90 runs on Day-2 and got bowled out.

England should be able to score 400 here comfortably in their first innings. Indian pacers should be right on target today or it will be a tiring 2 day slug for them.

how un freakin believable.....our guys bat for two days under leaden overcast conditions....
and here our opening bowler is markiing out his runup up in bright sunny conditions...
Cmon India....knock them over...

should have got burns in ishant's last over....
I feel we always stand a tad back.....a couple of steps forward would help...
and what's the logic with the staggered 1st slip....what a useless waste, the worst scenario is the wicketkeeper or the 2nd slip will get in his way....

India cannot afford to play 4 pacers who cannot hold a bat when playing Rahane & Pujara & Kohli as middle order.
Yeah.

It's idiotic to play 5 bowlers with only 2.5 functional bats in XI. But when you're being led by Kohli then these things are commonplace.

Instead of taking more responsibility himself since he is hell-bent on playing 5 bowlers, Kohli goes missing with bat with such alarming regularity.

And then his pathetic quips to media!

We've squandered an opportunity to bat England out of the game and series.

Now we have to try and win the test in the conventional way.

One would would think that.

But our management has different ideas.

Its not like playing one extra batter or spinner would move mountains but playing 4 number xis with that batting lineup is a crime.

I am not one bit surprised we collapsed.

It's such a defensive decision to play Ishant in the XI. Ashwin would've been so much better.

Root will make merry on this pitch where Kohli was struggling to put bat on ball.

England 23-0 (Burns 11, Sibley 11) - TRAIL BY 341

Tea.

Not sure why both teams didn't play a second spinner stupid move
For England, it's still understandable as they are majorly a pace heavy team and don't have too many good spinners in their ranks.

As for us, well another of those Kohli specials. When he didn't have to pick 2 spinners, he did (circa Lord's 2018 and WTC final 2021). And when he must have (here), he didn't.

England would need partnerships all along here , they would hope 3 - 4 batsmen fire and get big scores.

Haseeb hameed missing a straight one on debut, ball didnt even do much nor was it that quick, in professional terms. Poor comeback for him.

India well on top, england openers making pakistan look consistent.

Good to see Siraj and Shami bowling well, should be first choice for all Indian matches. Siraj just ended Hameed's career, Hameed will do a Chand now :jordan

Exaggerating much? Anybody can get out first ball, its not a big deal.

Two very poor dismissals for the England batters, and unforgivably soft from Sibley who should not even be in the team.

Root or bust yet again.

The fact that, the second change bowler, can come in and offer such intensity, accuracy and wicket taking ability, is really heartening to see. Thats what has been India's real strength in recent past

Once David Bedingham is fully English :stokes he should walk in the team ahead of Hameed, Sibley etc.

Rory Burns and Dom Sibley have got to be the worst openers going around in Test cricket at the moment. Yep, they are even worse than Abid Ali and Imran Butt. Don't know what England see in them. England are much better going with Roy and Bairstow as Test openers and asking them to play like its white ball cricket. They'll score more playing that way than Burns and Sibley's blockathons for sure. I thought Burns career was over when Shaheen reduced him to a laughing stock last year. But here he is still sticking to his place. He'll score 1 century and stay for another 2 home seasons.

I am getting a feeling that Siraj will beat Root's defence and knock the middle stump.

Siraj is slowly becoming indispensable in the Indian bowling lineup. His whippy action and the ability to swing the ball both ways is very useful on any kind of pitch.

I thought only pak has pathetic openers but the more I watch sibley the more I feel Dibley. No footwork
never side on and no strokeplay either. How on earth England managed to match Pak boggles my mind

In terms of consistency, Root is right up there with the best batsman of all-time.

get Hameed to open and Crawley back.

I think Hameed was unlucky to get a good one first up.

Poor Root, continually coming in at 20-2. Like Border in Australia’s bad years.

Where will England find a decent top three? They have not replaced Strauss, let alone Cook.
