What's new

England end Day 2 at 423/8 with a lead of 345 runs over India after Joe Root's 23rd Test century

I was watching average and ranking of virat
I mean man with such a bad or we can say worst slump he still average 50 in both formats and still is in top 5 in all formats this shows what a beast he was during his peak. To be honest he still should be in his peak as he is not too old right now God knows whats going in his life and why cant he focus on his batting and why he is showing fake agression when the real fire in his eyes in missing and i can bet with england leading by 200 runs and still he will celebrate next.wicket like its 0 for 4

Bowl tight and bore them out. This is a good situation for Pujara but the rest will be under massive scoreboard pressure.

Might start turning for Moeen, we shall see.

i was going to say, perfect time for Indias batsmen to pay themselves in, but then JIMMMYYYY

This is quite a thrashing. England have somehow stabilized their top order.
India are missing a swing bowler like bhuvneshwar Kumar

India batting is too weak to bat for a long time.

Eng has this game in the bag.

If England keep scoring at the current rate then the lead will be around 325 by the end of play.

England should look to bat till close of day 3. Maybe get 600 run lead here.

lots of soft runs available against world greatest ever fast bowling attack.

This is excellent going. Malan has been surprisingly good. India are struggling against our 2nd string Team as we are missing so many players.

England D? More like England B because they are only missing Stokes, Woakes, Foakes, Broad, Wood and Archer. :inti

Craig overton is more like c grade atleast. Malan aint played test in how long and hameed is barely starting his career. :)) :))

Thats one heck of a list of missing players though.

Yeah it will be fun to watch and see how India bowling in upcoming test. Bowling so many overs will be tiring

Day 2: Tea Break - England lead by 220 runs

ENG 298/3 (94) CRR: 3.17

Malan out on the stroke of Tea.

A very solid, patient, and consistent performance from the England top order as a unit: 61, 68, 70, 80*. Makes a very welcome change from the usual x3 single figure scores and then maybe a good innings from Root. These collective runs on this occasion should be match-winning.

England’s top four all pass 30 for the first time in an incredible 104 tests.

Re my post above, I knew it had been a long time, but my word that is shocking. Although good news that they have shaken the curse today.

To think that we used to have a top four of Trescothick-Strauss-Vaughan-Bell and then later Strauss-Cook-Trott-KP, and we used to complain about them sometimes and say they weren’t scoring enough runs lol :))

Pant had his gloves taped when he took the catch, umpires asked him to remove the tape when he came out after tea, was that against the laws of the game, therefore making the catch illegal?

I think the keeper is not allowed to have taping. I'm guessing the English team would have made more of an issue about it had they not been 200 ahead......

What a straight drive from Root to move into the 90s. Imperious.

Both bairstow and buttler (later) and moeen (later) have free reign to be as aggresive as they want here.

Looks like flattest pitch among all the tests so far this series and previous tour! I don't think even England batted at this ease in all these matches! Baffled at how India got bowled out so cheaply yesterday! Probably was a mental issue!

This match should be taken seriously and the concerned authorities should not hide it showing us Gabba/Australian triumph or Lord Triumph or Home Tests Triumphs or any other triumphs (IPL?) If things go like this we may see an ALL-TIME-LOW in Indian cricket very soon (may rub even to LOIs) like Pakistan, Sri Lanka, West Indies teams! It is so serious really!

Because we have lost
1) Kohli-the batsman (never bothered about his captaincy), I don't think he will get back his form
2) Rohit - is on his last leg (and we are lucky that he is in some form), but he is aging...
3) Rahul - is the most confused sperm around, we can't rely on him for long
4) Pujara & Rahane are inexistent and the disturbed the transition of Indian Test Batting (Because by now our team should have got filled with some fresh batsmen & had some experience)
5) Pant - is becoming like Rahul 2.0
6) Bowling is great (which is actually the reason for all these glories), but they may suffer being part of the poorest batting unit, like how our batting unit of 90s-00s suffered with poor bowling unit.

The Kohli-Shastri duo may have given us some bright moments, aggressive intent, etc. But on the longer run they might have disturbed the team's stability, integrity & uplifted egoism among individuals. Nobody seems to be bothered about failures & shy of weaknesses, they are only celebrating successes vigorously!

Congrats Root, what a classy knock. Scored 3 centuries in 3 tests against the best bowling attack in the world. Now get to 200

Soft 100 by Root, according to Mamoon logic these runs shouldnt really count.

300 lead would be a massive lead.

England should be aiming to declare just before tea tomorrow with a 500+ lead, giving them over 7 sessions to bowl India out. Weather doesn't look to be an issue. Plus they wear the Indian team out for the next game.

This thread is a ghost town.....

So you mean to tell me playing with 7 tailenders and the 4 pacers didn't work out?

:))

Kept mentioning the knock by Pujara and Rahane last game was one of the most shameful batting I have ever seen in test cricket.

That fluke knock sealed their spots and it shows.

I didn't even tune in Headingly cos I knew we will get screwed sooner or later with this garbage strategy.

Time to get rid of Pujara and Rahane first. Had enough of their spot saving innings. They were not the heroes of Lords win. It was due to our bowlers we won that match. :inti

Going to be pretty hard for Kohli to drop them when he has lesser runs than them for the series.

I mean, how's he going to say to one of them with a straight face "Puji unfortunately we have to drop you for not performing in the series.."

If Ben foakes is not injured there's no reason he shouldn't be playing instead of white ball FTB buttler

bairstow and buttler been dissapointing again in tests as usual.

Only a matter of time before Jadeja's inflated statistics start doing justice to his actual bowling skills.

He used to be a bloody good bowler.

Not he's half the bowler.

But a much better bat.

Which is a shame.

Cos he is talented to be an incredible ATG AR.

Honestly, there is one word for Indian bowlers:

CHAMPIONS.

They deserve better batsman.

They are fighting even from a hopeless situation.

India fighting back, winning the mental battle here :kohli

Too little too late by the Indian bowlers. Matter of fact, hats off to English Top order for doing an excellent job keeping the Indian bowlers at curb.

Indian bowlers can now take all the wickets they want but they already missed the ship.

Indians must be having their hearts in their mouths looking at the scoreboard and the piled up lead.

This game is done.

I was talking in general.

We didn't bowl well yesterday.

Ghatiya selection and captaincy didn't help.

Even the Indian team knows this game is done.

The only question was whether England will pile on 600 to deflate and tire out our bowlers...and that didn't happen.

So damage is done...but not to the extent of what England would have wanted.

They should have scored 600 and pretty much buried our pacers.

In that context, this isn't a massacre.

But its 400/7,

Who knows the tail can wag and do the final massacre.

Dinesh karthik seems to have taken offence to nasser Hussain’s fancy dress comment :)) :)) trying some banter of his own but comes across as cringy glad he’s disappearing of to the ipl soon.

England would bat till they are all out , they will try to tire Indian bowlers as much as possible.
