What's new

England reach 53/3 at Stumps on Day 3, needing 482 runs to win 2nd Test against India

It is a privilege to watch Kohli's batting masterclass on this day 3 pitch. He did it on day 5 in last test match as well. It is pretty incredible that he doesn't sweep the ball.

Imagine the noise lallu experts here would make if Kohli took that review!! Worst review I have ever seen.

What was Kohli arguing with Menon? He was running on the pitch and that's a fact.

So do we declare or bat until we are bowled out?

If we declare, is it 15 overs out from the close of the day's play or after we attain a particular lead?

Obviously 349 is more than enough but Kohli ain't gonna forfeit the chance of hitting a 50/100.

Both are looking fairly okay there atm.

Have you noticed our players really give it to our umpires? Charging at them, appealing in their face etc. doesn't happen with other nations' umpires.

It is 3rd day. Why Ind will think about a declaration. Anyway, 1 wicket here and it will end quickly.

Yeah, I've. Poor from our players especially Kohli who is captain.

No way, we are going to declare!

Man Kohli is a solid player. The only guy who looked comfortable there apart from Foakes (with bat and behind the stumps). Such a talent...

Dude it is day 3 with two sessions left. It would be crazy to declare right now

Dan Lawrence came out to bowl on an unplayable pitch.

"When they make such pitches in England, where cows and buffaloes can come and graze, then no one complaints about it"

- Epic trolling by Sunil Gavaskar Sir on the Hindi show

One of the interesting little battles here is that the Indian batters will be reluctant to charge the England spinners from now on, with a real keeper behind them instead of a backstop.

Indians made a meal of it by playing overly lunging to every ball. Ashwin used the right shot for this pitch.

Keeper has been a delight to watch. Absolutely top class.

Nothing wrong on what he said. As a team or player you are supposed to be tested in every type of pitch and conditions, you will succeed if you are good enough. Every time india didn't do well on grass pitches we always curse our players but didn't complain about pitches.

Ben Foakes is a star, tremendous glovemanship.

Those who diss Kohli for being poor against spin, see how he is negotiating Leach on this pitch.

The way he comes forward, way he smothers spin, way he caresses the ball to different parts of the ground, is a treat to watch.

Great shot from Kohli, an exquisite extra cover drive.

Kohli has reached his fifty , Ashwin strong chance here that he will get his 12 th Test fifty

Showing how watchful Kohli is in this innings as compared to the first innings where he was way too belligerent.

Difference in approach gives you difference in results.

It is a pitch where you will have starting trouble. Once you see the initial phase off you will be batting on a different pitch. The older the ball easier the batting has become.

Who says Kohli is poor against spin doesn't understand cricket and their benchmark player, who shall remain nameless, wouldn't last 5 balls in this pitch.

More than his attacking strokes, it's his water tight defence against spin which is greater to watch.

Exactly, his restraining himself today has been a bigger treat than his strokeplay.
Yeah, Kohli getting his form back is biggest positive for us out of this test, along with result of course!

Was he really out of form? Hadnt he played really well in the Adelaide D/N too before Rahane had run him out?

Just saw Rahane's dismissal. What lame duck he looked like on that delivery?

As LSK was saying, class toppers are adjudged differently than the middle rankers. He hasn't hit a ton for a while, that's his biggest failure.

Most of the dismissals today happened were dumb. Leach looked threatening all the time. But you can leave his deliveries mostly as it turns far too much. If you ask me Foakes was the hero of 3 wickets.

True. Foakes has been immense.

Ashwin now outscored every English bat from the first innings.

So doctored.

I don't understand why are they playing Broad if they had to give him two overs in this inning.

This is not a complete spin bowling shoutout. Broad could have been handy if they have given him 6-7 overs. Ishant and Siraj took 3 wickets too and they didn't even bowled many overs because Ashwin was brilliant.

Averages 58 in India. Needs a Duke ball and clouds to succeed.

Root's captaincy is insipid. Seriously 2 bowlers have bowled 49 out of a total of 60 overs. That is 81%.

England dropping Bess was criminal. He'd have been more lethal than Leach on this pitch.

First 30 overs are hard to play on this pitch with the new ball really offering a lot for the spinners. After that , it doesn't look all that threatening. Declaration is a terrible idea. India should just look to take it session by session.

Except probably your cricketing sense, i found nothing poor in anyones approach - from either side
Lol, at least get whats being discussed! Don't poke your nose in matters you have no idea about!

A guy with 517 test wickets has bowled 2 overs out of total 62 overs that has been bowled.

If you sum the wicket tally of other bowlers that have bowled in the team in this inning, it is half of that.

So basically relatively newish ball offers some help for Spinners. I mean turn is there even with old ball. But it comes off the pitch slowly.

This is very bad from root.

Only giving broad 2 overs even though he was looking threatening. He has overbowled moeen and Leach. Putting Moeen in place of bess may have cost england the pitch.

India won this test as soon as rohit scored his ton on a raging turner

Always great to be back in this beautiful ground, my 4th test at Chepauk. Last time l was there, I wanted to catch a glimpse of the great man for one last time before his retirement, but got to watch Dhoni blast a double ton in a day. This bloke Virat Kohli goes alright I suppose..

England concentrating too much on the whine rather than play good cricket. Crap team selection due to rotation policy, lose deliveries, lack of variation in spin, dropped catches and poor batting. That's what has cost them this match, not the pitch.

Broad is bowling pretty decently- wonder why Root was holding him back till now?
