What's new

England reach 53/3 at Stumps on Day 3, needing 482 runs to win 2nd Test against India

I am sure England are gonna win the next test match as well if they win toss.

Every Vaughan has its day. England's moment came in the first test match.

They'll lose the next two as well easily, toss or no toss.

If they were to win another test it would mean a series victory or a drawn series. England sport ain't used to such unprecedented success because it ain't happening.

Where are cricket pandit who think, this pitch is impossible for batting . Ashwin shut those mouth with century

Such a poor pitch that India scored a partly 615 in 2 innings

Unprecedented?? 2-1 in 2012

For all Indians here belittling Ashwin success to further their cause for the pitch.. Ashwin is a fantastic cricketer despite his physic and in some way have been the main reason for India's success at home even more so than Virat or Rohit.

615 in 2 innings for the home side who batted first? Against one inexperienced spinner and one all rounder? Its going to be enough against England.

Ashwin averages almost 40 against England in test cricket while batting.

Against an over the hill Tendulkar, Sehwag, Zaheer et al. Same reason why they won in Australia in 2011 - an over the hill Ponting, Katich etc.

Take out the South African imports and the cyclical luck and they reverted to their mean before and after those series.

Sibley and Lawrence aren't going to scare anybody.

Let's not demean their victories buddy.

2011 and 2012 was special even if it came against over the hill / transitional teams.

Couldn't cross Rohit's score in the first innings...

Can they cross Ashwin's score in the second? :moha

over the hill Tendulkar? Strange for you to admit he played too long there are people here who argued with me in the past that he never lost his prime.

Have not really followed this series, so very surprised to see crowd when I tuned in.

It's not even social distancing and most of them are not wearing masks.

I am just curious. What is the reason behind this? Any articles to fill me up with?

What's wrong with his "physic"? :inzi

Yes, 615 is still a huge score and not a substandard pitch. Its like scoring 400 in first innings and then 200 to set a target

Sachin's last test century was his 146 in Cape Town in Jan 2011. He retired in Nov 2013.

What a dramatic stance from Burns? No wonder he is crap.

615 would be a good enough score on an under prepared pitch in subcontinent.. other wise you need to score more.

For me he had a clear decline in his ability post around 2009 he still kept his numbers up etc because he was a great player and could cover for his swanning ability but at that point he stopped becoming undisputed number 1 match winner for India.

England have to restore some pride in this team innings. It is an impossible target and they will obviously lose, but it is important to show grit & fight here and not to just fold like a pack of cards. Important both for this match and also psychologically for the 3rd Test, where the day-night playing conditions will give England a chance to come back into the series.

Sibley as much of a no-name as Vihari.

Is it impossible for England to produce a batsman like Matthew Hayden? He would know how to bat here.

Just as I say that he is replaced by Dan Lawrence. Another nobody.

Lawrence looking totally clueless at the moment.

Averages 37.29 after facing dibbly-dobbly county seamers across 77 first class games.

Did the South African imports dry up?

Why have two spinners opened the bowling? and Ishant one the most experienced pace bowler currently playing only bowled 2 overs?

Positive batting from Burns. England would be hoping this is not just for saving his place for next test.

Impressive intent being shown from Lawrence here. Not going to let himself get bogged down again.

This is a problem with rotation policy. If Lawrence scores how can you drop him? But Bairstow has to be in the team because he did well against Sri Lanka and is a good player of spin.

I would play Bairstow over Lawrence but it would he harsh on Lawrence. He stays in the bubble and potentially performs but he is dropped for someone who gets to get out of the bubble.

We don't need anybody hi-fi to dismiss a cricketer who names himself "Rory Burns" and averages 31 after 22 tests. ;)

I would be surprised if england lose this match ... it's a great batting track...

Interesting little battle between Lawrence and Pope for one place with Crawley returning.

The loss grows nearer. I would be happy if our guys can spend time out there in the middle and hit some boundaries to get a bit of confidence back, and can put together 300 as a team. That would at least restore some pride ahead of the crucial 3rd Test.

I don't know how long Jadeja has at test level, but Axar can be a good replacement for him in Asian conditions when he retired.

So now opening with 2 spinners is a crime now!

The worst of the Big-3 are England. These 4/5 test series offered to them are a waste of everybody's time.

New Zealand are way better.

I'll be completely honest. I hate these type of pitches where its spin right from the start. This isnt a criticism against India, Pakistan have done this often in the past too.

However, to say it is a 'poor pitch' because of this is unfair. It's almost an unconscious bias in the favour of fast bowlers. These pitches are as equally valid as any other pitch.

Root outrageously lucky there.

Got to make it count.
