England Men are scheduled to play three ODIs and three IT20s against Bangladesh in March 2023 after the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed the tour dates.

The tourists will return to Bangladesh for the first time since 2016 and will play internationals in Dhaka and Chattogram.

The tour will start with three ODIs, the first two matches taking place at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS), Dhaka on Wednesday 1 March and Friday 3 March.

The final match of the series will take place on Monday 6 March at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium (ZACS), Chattogram.

The three-match IT20 series starts on Thursday 9 March at ZACS in Chattogram. The final two matches are on Sunday 12 March and Tuesday 14 March at SBNCS, Dhaka.

The last time both teams played each other in 2016, England won the ODI series 2-1.

The England party are expected to play two warm-up fixtures ahead of the ODIs. The warm-up schedule will be announced in due course.

England Men’s white-ball tour of Bangladesh Schedule:

Three-Match ODI Series

1st ODI: Bangladesh v England, 1 March, SBNCS, Dhaka
2nd ODI: Bangladesh v England, 3 March, SBNCS, Dhaka
3rd ODI: Bangladesh v England, 6 March, ZACS, Chattogram

Three-Match IT20 Series

1st IT20: Bangladesh v England, 9 March, ZACS, Chattogram
2nd IT20: Bangladesh v England, 12 March, SBNCS, Dhaka
3rd IT20: Bangladesh v England, 14 March, SBNCS, Dhaka

Clare Connor, ECB Interim Chief Executive Officer, said: “It is exciting that the England Men’s white-ball squad will return to Bangladesh for the first time since 2016. The atmosphere generated in Dhaka and Chattogram for this eagerly-anticipated tour will be fantastic.

“There is a great passion for cricket across Bangladesh, and we expect a tough challenge against a side who have an excellent record in home conditions.”

Disappointing that no Test.

Would've loved to see England try Bazball in dust bowl Mirpur.

Good to see England touring Bangladesh as it’s been years since I can remember England playing there.

Think it was 2016 the last time, and before that it was when I was a student at university, which I’m afraid was many years ago! — although for some reason I remember this particular tour quite clearly. :Boycott

This tour will be a useful examination for England’s white ball cricketers ahead of the 50 over World Cup in India, but there should be at least one Test added to the tour as well.

Yes. 2016.

I remember that series quite well. BD actually won one Test and drew the Test series 1-1.

England won the ODI series 2-1. That was the only home ODI series BD lost since 2015.

Bangladesh should dish out the most sluggish pitches possible. It worked against Australia and New Zealand last year.

On flat pitches, England are likely to murder Bangladesh.

England have named 15-member ODI and T20I squads for their tour of Bangladesh next month.

England have named uncapped Somerset batter Tom Abell in their limited-overs squads for the tour of Bangladesh next month. Abell, who will lead the England Lions one-day squad against Sri Lanka, also marked his presence in the SA20 in South Africa recently.

Abell bats in the middle-order and can also contribute with the ball. He led Somerset's batting charts in County Championship 2022 with 1039 runs at an average of 51.95 and also featured in the Lanka Premier League, Sri Lanka's domestic T20 league, in December.

Young leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed also earned a maiden call-up to the white-ball squads. The teenage leg-spinner impressed in his Test debut at Karachi last December, with seven wickets at an average of 19.57.

England pacer Saqib Mahmood, who last featured in the Test side against West Indies last year, earned a recall to the ODI squad. The Lancashire player has 14 ODI wickets at an average of 19.92.

Jofra Archer, who recently made his international comeback against South Africa, also makes it to both squads.

Ben Stokes, Harry Brook and Olly Stone have been left out since they are part of the Test team that plays against New Zealand at the end of February.

Alex Hales, who finished just behind Jos Buttler in the run-scoring chart for England at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2022, was also absent from the T20I squad.

Ben Duckett and Will Jacks have been named in the T20I squad.

ODI Squad:

Jos Buttler (captain), Tom Abell, Rehan Ahmed, Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, Saqib Mahmood, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Jason Roy, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, James Vince, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.

T20I Squad:

Jos Buttler (captain), Tom Abell, Rehan Ahmed, Moeen Ali, Jofra Archer, Sam Curran, Ben Duckett, Will Jacks, Chris Jordan, Dawid Malan, Adil Rashid, Phil Salt, Reece Topley, Chris Woakes, Mark Wood.

England Men’s Tour of Bangladesh schedule

1st ODI: Bangladesh v England - March 1, Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka

2nd ODI: Bangladesh v England – March 3, Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka

3rd ODI: Bangladesh v England – March 6, Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram

1st T20I: Bangladesh v England – March 9, Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram

2nd T20I: Bangladesh v England – March 12, Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka

3nd T20I: Bangladesh v England – March 14, Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka

Looks a decent Eng squad all things considered. They are of course missing Johnny and Root.

Captain Jos Buttler says a limited-overs tour of Bangladesh is "exactly the kind of challenge" England need before October's World Cup in India.

The first of three one-day internationals takes place in Mirpur from 06:00 GMT on Wednesday.

England beat Bangladesh on their last tour in 2016 but have lost their past seven 50-over series, dating back to 2005, in similar conditions in India.

"It will be a great challenge for us," said Buttler.

Bangladesh have won 12 of their past 13 home ODI series since the 2015 World Cup, including beating number-one ranked India in December - with that England series in 2016 their only defeat.

This assignment will be the last limited-overs cricket England play for almost six months, and their final overseas games before they defend their 50-over World Cup title on the subcontinent.

"They are very tough to beat in their home conditions," continued Buttler, who has only won three of 11 completed ODIs since replacing Eoin Morgan as permanent captain in June.

"We only have these matches and then don't play again until September just before the World Cup. All our preparation is geared towards that World Cup and these are the conditions that will probably be the closest that we can get to playing in India.

"This is exactly the kind of challenge we need, with the World Cup not too far away we can test ourselves against conditions that we as a side find the hardest.

"It's going to be a great measure of where we are as a team."

The series - with the ODIs followed by three Twenty20 internationals - will also conclude England's winter schedule, with an 11-week break before a one-off Test against Ireland starts on 1 June.

The first ODI will start just over 24 hours after the two-Test series in New Zealand concludes, meaning a number of players are unavailable for the tour.

Batters Joe Root and Harry Brook and bowlers Olly Stone and Matthew Potts are all part of the Test squad so were not considered for selection.

All-rounder Will Jacks has already left New Zealand to join the white-ball squad in Bangladesh, while left-hander Ben Duckett will join for the T20 leg of the tour, after the second Test finishes.

Jacks has been added to the ODI squad after Somerset all-rounder Tom Abell was ruled out with a side injury.

England could hand a white-ball debut to 18-year-old leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed, who became England's youngest Test player against Pakistan in December, and took 5-48 on debut.

"Rehan's a really exciting talent," said Buttler. "He's still a very young man - just a teenager. We're excited about his development and where we think he can go and it's great to have him in and around the England set-up.

"Someone like Adil Rashid has been such a star performer for us for a long period of time, Rehan getting to spend time with him and discuss bowling and watching each other bowl will be a huge benefit to him and a big step in his development.

"We're really excited to have someone with so much talent, not just with the ball, with the bat as well. We're looking forward to watching him develop and hopefully turning himself into a brilliant international cricketer."

There could also be a return for Lancashire pace bowler Saqib Mahmood, who has played two games for the second-string England Lions after nine months out with a stress fracture of the back.

Fellow quick Mark Wood is in both squads, having been rested for the ODI tour of South Africa in January and the Test series in New Zealand.

Pace bowler Jofra Archer will also continue his comeback after featuring in two games in the South Africa tour, including taking a maiden five-wicket haul.

England are working alongside players to honour their franchise commitments, meaning opener Alex Hales, wicketkeeper Sam Billings, all-rounder Liam Dawson and bowlers Richard Gleeson and Tymal Mills also left out so they can play in the Pakistan Super League.

Some very good looking England squads there.

Hoping to see plenty of Rehan Ahmed and Jofra Archer.

Bangladesh vs England | 1st ODI | Mirpur | 01 March 2023 | Match Discussion

Decent start for BD. England are not outright favourites for the Cup and frankly no team looks exceptional. This England lineup is also only really missing Brook.

Am I imagining things or wasn't England playing with NZ just yesterday?? How did they get there so fast

Morning all.

Watched from start. I don’t miss BD ODI games against top sides. Tamim looked good, needed to get a big score, get bulk of the runs. Liton got a good delivery. Shanto who I criticised a lot recent times looks busy, looking confident, taking on the right shots so far.

Mushfiqur? Absolute Liability now, wasting a spot in the team. Retire now. You’re finished. Cant rotate, cant hit big. Just stick to test till you retire completely.

Ban 103/3 (22/50 ov)

Najmul Hossain Shanto - 39 (44)
Shakib Al Hasan - 6 (10)

Good going from Najmul Hossain Shanto, he had a great BPL season (most runs), always had the talent (like a lot of BD batsmen) but perhaps needed that confidence boost.

Shakib going early. No hope BD now. Need to score big from the top 3, top guns need to score the bulk. When you certain limitations you need to utilise what you have best.

Poor from Shakib, can't be throwing your wicket like that

Mind boggling really. From such an experienced players both Mushy and Shakib threw it away like a newbie starting his career for the first time. No winder why Shakib doesnt get the respect should’ve in many francchise leagues. I mean, even towards the later stages , end of his career,T Dilshan still got bought my teams and played every game almost. Shakib hardly gets into the franchise teams he gets picked by!

Big series at home and the Mirpur Dhaka humans hardly filled the stadium up. If this was Sylhet it be full from hour before the game. Bcb needs to play away from Mirpur at times!

Such a flat atmosphere! No crowd support feels like playing away!

Shakib and Mushy are very careless players at times. They need to understand that they are the Sanga and Mahela of BD. Look what them other two did for their country. Use your experience and knowledge of the game. Played cricket for so long and you see them do such things, just so perplexing!

Need to get 260 minimum!

Poor rotation of singles! Shanto stuck in the late 40s!

Adil Rashid bowling like an absolute maestro on this. Makes me worry about the England run chase :))

Pitch is spinning like mad. Difficult to score off spinners. If BD get 250+ somehow, it’ll be hard to chase it.

Shanto gone! Didn’t looked like hit that hard enough. Ball was short! Been edgy since his 50!

Jees! Another soft dismissal! Wickets lost wrong time through the innings. Mahmudullah come on, on the pads that should’ve been smoked to the boundary. Tentative cricket does this to your game.

Bizzare shot by Afif who is skin and bone and tries to hit some muscle power shot. Wth was that? Over wasnt bad, took singles, last few recognised batsmen left and he did that?. Been ultra poor last T20 world cup and previous ODI series. Just seems a careless player. Wasting a spot in the side. Need to give someone elese a chance now.

All I want to see is how Eng bats. Will they go with their usual see ball hit ball approach or will they try to adapt to the pitches? They are the reigning t20 champions & ofcourse by large the most entertaining test team at the moment. But it feels like their odi performance has lost it's usual shine. I don't remember the last time them winning a series against the SINA teams. Post 2019 wc they lost every major series, didn't they? This series will be an indicator at where they truly stand atm. BD is arguably the biggest HTB in odi.If they lose this series I don't see much hope in the wc.

BD 209 all out 47.2

Didn’t even bat out the 50overs. 240 would have been tricky to chase.

Seniors didn’t get any biggie.

Atmosphere is the deadest I’ve seen in Bangladesh big series against big team. Even during series against lower teams like Afg, Ire, there been better atmosphere and more filled the stadium.

England's ODI attack looks so well balanced now, 3 wicket taking quicks (rather then hold an end up bowlers) there slow bowlers in Asian conditions will do a Job as well.

No idea why Jason Roy keeps getting picked, he is done at the top level.

Take away his performances against Netherlands and Roy's ODI record has been shocking after the World Cup Semifinal. Unlike England to persist with someone constantly failing.

No idea why Jason Roy keeps getting picked, he is done at the top level.

England are always loyal to their white ball cricketers, but at somepoint you sometimes need to drop players

Need to bring Fizz on Tamim. Keep Miraz overs for bit longer, ad there’s another leftie M Ali to come.

Oops. all on Malan and Moeen now.....

Easy enough target, just got to rotate the strike and stay in.

One of the reasons Roy is being persistent with is because none of the English batsmen have scored runs in this format since the last World Cup - Root, Buttler havent scored, Morgan and Stokes are retired and Bairstow injured.

Malan has been England's most consistent ODI batter this World Cup cycle.

Tamim Iqbal is a very proactive captain, always looking at the field position and bringing the right bowling changes when needed. That's the dynamic captaincy you need today.

Also I thought that Shanto slowed down a bit too much (from a SR of +90 to 70 after his half-century) but now in the context of the game his knock was essential.

England doing it easily now.

Tamim needs to do something different. Bring Miraz on to knock Malan over.

No slip for the left arm spinner against right handed batsman. On a spinning track. Bad captaincy there. Could have got another!

England need 98 runs from 132 balls. 5 wickets in hand.

Those spin overs should be key.

England - 112/5.

Maiden over. Tidy over from Mehidy.

England - 113/5 (30 overs; target: 210).

97 runs are needed from 20 overs.

BD need Malan out after this drinks break. No point holding Mehidy back for too end overs, two lefties in, give another over from pace, bring Mehidy in and finish his remaining two overs at these lefties.

50 from Malan. Came from 92 balls.

Pitch is quite sluggish.

Good knock under pressure. Pitch isn’t easy but it’s still 240-250wicket.

If only the BD middle order seniors batted more sensibly 250 could have been achieved.

I agree. They didn't even play the full 50 overs.

240 seems par here.

I don’t know under lights it doesnt turn as much as it does during the day time, is there slight dew? Fizz aint getting any grip for his cutters.

Oh dear, Beard shaved.

Down to Woakes.

Come on Dawid, come on Chris!

Mehidy Hasan strikes off his last ball to dismiss Moeen Ali. Needed that BD, got rid of one of the left handed England batsman. Now right hander comes in, Shakib and Taijul back in action!

Malan is showing Mushfiq and Shakib what it means to put a price on your wicket. Learn something from this innings.

England are favorites now because BD only have 3 overs of spin left, unless they bowl part-timers.

Pace shouldn't trouble England.

Malan is always criticised for how he normally plays on slow and low wickets. But he's done an excellent job here, deserves to get a 100

This is a pitch suitable for batters like Malan.

Malan is not good for flat pitches probably (LOIs).

Shakib bowled average not his best. Needed his arm deliveries firing today!

Dawid Malan plays BPL every year hence knows Bangladesh conditions better than rest of England players.
