England v Pakistan | 2nd Test | Manchester | Jul 23-26, 2016 | Day 3

Rain is here. Thank God.this is our best chance of getting a draw. No way can we bat for 3 days. Batters confidence is gone in this game. Need a fresh game

That may also have been because England lacked Anderson in the previous match perhaps. He's excellent at manipulating such conditions to his advantage

But Woakes did the job, and dude is almost doing the same job in 2nd Test too :(.

Thankfully, rain has arrived.

Are you saying difference in captaincy and planning

Everyone says cook is defensive but he has 4 slips in misbah only kept 3 in for cook. He has a deep long on for Balance which is ridiculous.

Hope Arthur can sort some proper planning out.

The spectators at old Trafford today were entertained by a shaman doing rain dance in the stadium....

However on closer inspection it was Younis having a nets session

I wish there is such a massive thunderstorm that water just clogs up everything on field and a 1 million pigeons poop on the pitch.

Andersons quite alright off pitch and a very soft spoken bloke. Wouldnt think it is the same guy. Met him a couple of times

Adijazz1706, still think Vijay isn't even comparable to Azhar Ali?:srini

Vijay got out for 7 or 8 on the flattest of pitches, Azhar is having a poor run. They are comparable no doubt, I just think Azhar is a tiny bit better.

I don't rate that Rahul and neither do the management if he's dropped for Dhawan.

Why the pigeons, thunderstorm should be enough.

I just don't want us to bat in this test anymore, the pigeons bit would ensure that safe playing conditions can never be achieved in the space of 3 days. !!

A safety precaution at best

Gotta give the devil his due though . 455 test wickets @28 is not bad at all . Best after Steyn in the last 6 years.

Oh of course, I absolutely adore him as a bowler. Anderson in full flight is one of the best scenes in world cricket. Will move the ball like it's attached to a string.

But don't like him as a person.

Lmao so this is a greentop brother?

England just made 590 runs!

Vijay > Kohli + Azhar in Test format.

Let's finish this discussion, should not turn match thread into some comparison thread :)

Cook and Root getting 100s vs Kohli and Ashwin getting 100s, also Pak attack is better than WI attack, so not the flattest of pitches this :srt

How does batsmen getting hundreds change the complexion of the pitch?:murali

This pitch is flat as a highway. Only now it's starting to do something under the clouds..

I think batting first is an advantage these days regardless if where you are playing unless it's a green mamba. Pakistan benefitted from batting first at Lords and there was not much for the bowlers there either .
England could've won at Lord's had they batted better in the 1st inns. There was only 75 runs in it at the end and the fact all results were possible on Day 4 is a sign of a good pitch. I've been critical of Lord's pitches in recent years as since 2006 they've been far too flat but last week we got a slow-ish pitch where it wasn't easy for batsmen to time their shots and there was uneven bounce. Many batsmen made starts but couldn't convert.

Here, there's been no grass, no reverse swing and nothing for the spinners even though we hear how Old Trafford supposedly takes spin.

India_Fan will now lazily accuse me of being partisan and that I'm only complaining because Pakistan are now on the receiving end whilst ignoring the fact I detest UAE pitches. Believe me, I'd love to take an axe to those Abu Dhabi graveyards too.

I just want the most exciting Test cricket possible as a spectator, and for Tests not to be predicated merely on the flip of a coin. Its not about being partisan.

11.45am Ali: "Masood has an average of only 34 after 82 first-class games. He will be turning 27 soon. Is he really the best Pakistan has got to open the innings?"

Staggering stat from cricinfo, don't u guys have any other opener?

I'm not a fan of flat decks without any bounce either and absolutely detest UAE pitches too. However, fact is pitches are slowing down the world over. Even the WACA and Joburg are not as quick as they used to be. Even the Lords track in the last match is not what you ideally want to see in England. It's not the SC after all. I'd have loved to see a track with true bounce which would give batsmen purchase for their shots and bowlers with pace to get something out if it as well.

That's almost the same as Ashwin.

Pakistan have to induct Babar into the team sooner rather than later.

Babar has 2 FC centuries.
Naeemuddin is the best opener in Pakistan, scored 1000+ runs in each of last 3 FC seasons with 10-12 hundreds but his father isn't amongst board of governors in PCB

Personally I think Pakistan missed a trick by not playing a right arm bowler. Reason I'm saying is because Yasir could not take advantage of any footmarks to tie the batsman down from around the wicket. Ball wasn't turning as much as Lords because there, England bowled first and created the footmarks for him.

Management should have considered playing a right arm bowler. I think Wahab should be replaced in next game.

Has it stopped raining ??? Mein Vazifa khechnay ka sooch raha hoon for the Almighty to shower his blessings on Manchester for the next three days :))

Lol the umpires have given their verdict according to cricinfo. Restart in 10 minutes.

More rain throughout the day apparently. Rain in short bursts is bad for us

I thought the skies would open today for long but wasn't to be..

Pakistan are 5 down, didn't see a single spectacular delivery from the English bowlers. Pakistani batsmen gifted their wickets.

Still 263 overs left, these days it's difficult to be saved by rain - one extended hour, better drainage, artificial light & umpires are also more willing to play under gloomy condition.

Don't think it's going to rain for 5-6 sessions. At worst England should need 120 overs.

Shafiq and Babar batting together in full flow would be an absolute treat to watch. Can't wait too see it!

Such a shame that Shafiq has struggled in odis. He has the technique and the shot range, maybe not the power though. Don't understand why he doesn't believe in himself in that format

Pakistan missing Afridi to take the attack to the opponent. Captain and Shafiq allowing B&A settle into a rythm

Lol

Just turned it on, and a wicket fell.

Shafiq

thought we'd make 200, guess we'll have trouble making 150.

Unnecessary shot by Asad. Game over.

Sarfraz may as well try and get us some runs.
