England v Pakistan | Under 19s - 2nd Test | Derby | [10/8/07]

What a heroic performance from our U19s......maybe our seniors can learn a thing or two from them.

Fantastic innings by Ahmed Shahzad and don't underestimate the value of Imad's innings. He came in at a very crucial time and stuck it out right until the end. A proper captain's knock.

PAKISTAN ZINDABAAD!

I wish there was a 3rd Test!

There isn't? Oh man I am crushed...

Congrats pakistan, maybe the team can move on from strength to strength and some young players can maybe become future stars!

The context of the achievement to level series is phenominal. This is a team who last week got thrashed by an inns. Yet they have come back to level series and chase 300+ batting last. That rarely happens in any form of international cricket!

wooh that is a fantastic win by Pakistan. great stuff by the boys, an awesome effort to chase 315 on the last day.. really proud of them. The future superstars of Pakistan cricket!

Great job especially Imad for playing a mature and captain innings. Now doubt Shehzad played an anchor role but it was nice to see a responsible knock from such a young captain. These two kids temperament does deserve special attention. Tendulkar joined indian team at the age of 15 or 16, then whats wrong if PCB try these youngster against some weak opposition in Pakistan. This way could prepare Inzi substitute in next 2-3 years.

does under 19 mean u have to be younger than 19 to play? some of english players including their captain are some dayz short of being 20

Mashallah

Great decission by the PCb to send the boys abroad at such a young age.
Repeat performances in SAF and AUS inshallah

Congratulations to all the players and all those involved in the Under 19 setup.

A fantastic effort to chase down 342 in the 4th innings. Lets hope one or two gems may have been unearted as a result of this tour.

Onwards to the ODI series and best of luck to the youngsters.

Amazing how the attitude of people on this site has changed so quickly. Damning the team after they had lost a game to a VERY GOOD England team with players like Godleman and Harris already performing heroics in First Class County Cricket. The boys had also just got off the boat and had no time to acclimatise.

Interesting to see the series averages with some good performances from the bowlers matching Shoaib Akhtars stats at Pakistan U-19 level lets hope one of them can develop into a supreme fast bowler and terrify the world with his pace in the same manner as Shoaib Akhtar.

Some of the batsmen have had scores but not really been consistent but hopefully they can now get some nets in and contribute in the ODI's.

Well that would be awesome. Lets hope their fitness is a lot better though.

lets hope they are not bedevilled by envious and two faced 'fans' and team-mates
give us sometime. No one even knows these people. All will be treated equally or given the treatment they deserve. Now if the jelousy factor is already in U19 team what can we do? For a week I will type with my right hand only when talking about U19 team to take away my other face

I really would have liked to have seen the Under 19s in action. Sadly though the ODIs all seem to be on weekdays :(

typical pakistan. playing dead for most of the series and than coming up with a remarkable victory. Congrats

Ahmed the hero as Pakistan U19s level series
our correspondent

DERBY: Opener Ahmed Shahzad was the hero as Pakistan Under-19s put up an impressive display of batting while beating England Under-19s on the final day of their second and final, four-day Youth Test match, here at the County Ground on Monday by a narrow margin of three wickets.

Pakistan, who thus levelled the two-match rubber at one-all, had been left with a seemingly impossible task of making 342 runs for victory in the fourth innings. That they managed to do so, and in style, was a testament to their improving batting attitude and strength.

The first Youth Test at Scarborough had ended in an innings and 58 runs victory for the hosts, with Pakistan falling for modest scores twice and the match ending with a full day to spare.

Ahmed Shahzad, who had captained Pakistan Under-19s on their tour of Australia in April this year, doesn’t turn 16 until November. He played the innings of his short cricketing career, with a magnificent knock of 167 that came in just over six hours as he faced 260 balls and hit 16 fours.

Pakistan were off to a brisk 64-run start on Sunday afternoon through vice-captain Shan Masood (34) and Ahmed in a mere 49 minutes. Yesterday, they resumed at their overnight 102-2 and Ahmed and Taimur Ali (22) added 54 runs for the third wicket.

Usman Salahuddin contributed an invaluable 42, off 135 balls with three fours, as the fourth-wicket stand was worth 103 runs. First innings hero Ali Asad followed his 87 with a first-ball duck, but skipper Imad Wasim helped steady the ship.

Ahmed was sixth out at 309, with 33 still required. However, he and the left-handed Imad had scored 66 runs for the sixth-wicket partnership. Imad remained not out till the end, making 36 runs off 113 balls in two hours 21 minutes with three hits to the rope. The two teams now embark upon a five-match Youth One-day Internationals series, with the first match being played at Denis Compton Oval in Shenley on Wednesday (tomorrow).

Yes, a hero indeed. A brilliant, LONG, knock which including an excellent scoring rate.
