SA 422-6 after 146 overs - lead of 219
abcd on 114 off 307

Flintoff bowling his 36th over. 1-65 so far. looking for 2 wickets to get to 200 test wickets

This Harris guy also frustrated Pakistan. on 15 off 63 here. Malik is not doing enough

500 up :123:
SA 501-7 off 170 overs - lead of 298
AB 174. SA probably waiting for AB's 200 or a wicket to fall???

I agree - Prince is rubbish. He's only looking good now because, Freddie apart, he can gorge himself on a poor attack. I'm amazed by how bad our attack is actually now I mention it. Broad looks years away from being good enough, Jimmy is typical Jimmy, Monty looks harmless on pitches that don't offer him something, whereas Pattinson's an Australian. Even Freddie looks short of the ability and pace he offered in his prime. That's not really surprising, but really, what chance do we have if Freddie's lost the spark? Every single member of this attack averages 32 or more, for God's sake.

Anyway, when I see Prince, I think of Paul Collingwood in the mirror actually.

Yeah I agree. To regain the spark, England need to replace Broad with Harmison, and Pattison with Simon Jones.

The ideal bolwing combination in my eyes would be

Anderson/Hoggard
Harmison
Simon Jones/Sidebottom
Flintoff
Panesar

Also, I don't think Hoggard has lost his zip. He just needs to play regular internation cricket. All a bowler like him needs to do is make sure that he doesn't lose his swing. He has always been a 80-83 mph bowler, and I'm sure he can retain this pace until he's 35 years old. I've always rated Hoggard as a good bowler. Besides perorming in England, I've seen some good spells from him in Sri Lanka and India, which shows that he's not a one trick pony who relies only on swing.

Flintoff takes a brilliant catch at first slip. AB De Villiers out on 174 off Broad
SA 511-8 off 171.5 overs

171.5 Broad to de Villiers, OUT, wow, what a catch! Flintoff strikes at first slip with an absolutely stunning one-handed pouch. Full length from Broad, de Villiers drove with hard hands, and a thick edge bisected the gap between the keeper and a wide first slip. So Flintoff stuck out his left mitt, and wrapped his fingers around it!

There was applause as ABcde was walking out. One commentator was saying that he acknowledged one side of the crowd or he didn't acknowledge the west side

At the moment, i have to say that the South African bowling attack is better than the English attack. With Sidebottom out, England dont have a dependable bowler. Broad is not good enough as a bowler for test cricket, Anderson is too inconsistent and cannot do it alone. Flintoff needs more time to settle in, Panesar wont do much on pitches with no spin.
Hoggard should also get a look in as he really makes the most of the new ball.

I think Harmison, Jones need a look in and those guys should be allowed to bowl aggressively. England are lacking a bit in reverseswing, they were so awesome against the Aussies in 2005, what happened to their reverse swing abilities in the last 3 years.

Ntini out swinging ct at point off Panesar
SA 522 all out off 176.2 overs - lead of 319 runs
England needs atleast 2 big centuries and 2-3 batsmen to get 50+

crowd problem. I missed how many have been kicked out. one was kicked out for trying to run on the pitch. one or two maybe for ball/baloon tossing to ground. A warning to west side if a steward askes for a ball you give it to them otherwise face consequences. Radio commentary is so much better. They don't even show these things on TV anymore

Fred and Jones got injured and nobody else can do it!

Harmi will never play for Eng again, after that interview on SkySports yesterday where he not so much shot himself in the foot as blew his own leg off at the knee.

Great move by Malik. Now SA is probably over confident.
SA 3-1 after 3.5 overs - trails by 316

Pitch invasion, it's a beach ball, which is well tackled by Harris who scoops it up and then hits it, like a volleyball serve, into the crowd and he's well applauded. More applause for another pitch invasion, this time from a person, who is fully clothed and draped with a flag should you care to note this. Among the massive cheers, the PA is desperately intoning something about "a £1000 fine". The words "fighting" and "a losing cause" would perhaps be more appropriate

Here's Andrew McGlashan with an update on the non-streaking streaker: "She was followed onto the ground by about a dozen security people with the predictable outcome."

SA's bowlers look far more menacing than the English attack which relied heavily on Freddie and Anderson. Swinging the ball regularly and both Vaughan and Cook dont look too certain out there.

Boycott not happy with drinks interval. He thinks players are spoilt

for tomorrow half the ground presold . 27-48 pound seats available. 48 ones are probably behind the bowlers arm. cash preffered

Who are these disgraceful Pakistan supporters who keep invading the pitch?

And what do the South African bowlers have that England dont?

-Better skills with the ball especially with respect to late movement
-Two 90 mph bowlers in Steyn, Morkel
-An experienced spearhead in Ntini

England really need to do the following

1) Drop Broad, he isnt going to trouble anyone in test cricket atm
2) Get Harmison, Jones back
3) If Anderson remains out of form, replace him with Hoggard
4) Get the batters to shape up and be a bit disciplined against Steyn especially outside offstump.

This would be my England Eleven
1. Strauss
2. Cook
3. Vaughan
4. Pieterson
5. Bell
6. Flintoff
7. Ambrose
8. Sidebottom
9. Harmison
10. Jones/Panesar
11. Hoggard

Isn't this Saj and/or Oxy territory?
some people on east side are leaving. West side the active one is staying

Boycott saying western stand people are here to make some noise and some trouble

the dropped captain of ODI Collingwood hits 6 sixes in Pro40. Harmisson takes 4 wickets in another match

8 overs left today
Eng 39-1

Another one tried to run into the ground. That was the last cheer.

A commentator saying the first might be a diversion for another one to come from the other side. Conspiracy theory :)

Oh No!!! Vaughan ct behind off Ntini
Eng 50-2 after 22.4 overs - trails by 269
one over after this left today

Anderson in

Dont understand what SA were trying to do in the backend of their innings
there was no intent to score runs quickly
Anyways they've got a breakthrough so only 9 to go

Anderson survives a close LBW shout. Bowden says no
Hawkeye says hitting inside of leg stump

Should have been out again really. At least we can delay the fall of the third wicket until tomorrow morning now :))
Anyway, England have been a bit of a joke in this match. Looks like they'll have to come from behind in the series again, which to be fair England are usually quite good at.

looks like england got it all to do and only rain can save them as i dont see them batting out two days or them giving SA a fightable total.

They fell behind against Australia. They lost the series.

They fell behind India. They lost the series.

They fell behind Sri Lanka. They lost the series.

They fell behind New Zealand. They won the series.

Is it any coincidence that New Zealand are ranked barely above the abysmal West Indies...?

WI> NZ in tests.

NZ have been hit really hard by the BCCI circus.

What did he say ? I believe he blew himself when he shot back at Boycott. It's one thing to retaliate when you are doing well, but he retaliated when he was completely down.

something about being asleep when he saw Pattenson bowl.

44.2 Steyn to Anderson, no run, oh, a short delivery, angling in with some hostility at the left hander who had nowhere to go really and has to let it crash on to his upper arm

Anderson just takes a moment or three for composure... oh, and the physio is coming out now. The ball appeared to have rapped him on the hand, in fact. He's swallowing a few painkillers now, while Morkel, Ntini and Steyn are having a bowlers' pow-wow. No sign of Kallis nor Harris. A leg gully coming in now

44.3 Steyn to Anderson, no run, oh, a sickening blow now, Anderson hit on the helmet this time. The physio immediately runs back on the pitch now

Anderson's down a while and there are two memebers of the back-room staff out there as Anderson sits up on the turf, that one rapped him hard on the grille, on the right cheek

Eng 99-2 - trails by 220

a 12 minute over there

Brave knock by Anderson. It always fires up the cockles (well, no, not really, but you see the point) when a tail-ender puts up a good nightwatchman show...
Pietersen off to a flyer, incidentally...Pietersen GONE!!!

Pietersen hits another 4 and is ct behind off Kallis. 13 runs off 5 balls and out
Eng 123-4 after 47.2 overs - trails by 196

'Twas a somewhat poor shot from KP in the circumstances. Especially since lunch was just minutes away.

3 cases of Castle lager were brought to the SA dressing room earlier today. 4 members of the squad don't drink. Just some info from the radio given earlier

Piererson is a irresponsible muppet. England can keep him. He's batted like a total idiot this match and payed for it. He'll never admit it but t's hurting the hell out him to be so outplayed by his own country. hahahahahah...poor little kevie.

4 ? Disgraceful ! Against the spirit of the game in South Africa ...drop them !

Seriously though...Other than Amla and De vlliers who doesn't drink ? Pollock didn't but he's retired.

de Villiers doesn't drink? Didn't know that. Amla I did know. Ntini also doesn't drink, I believe.

Don't know what this malarkey regarding Pietersen is about. He got a good ball. In retrospect, he probably scored 12/13 runs more than he might have done. The best he could probably have hoped for that early in his innings is that he'd miss it. Good bowling by Kallis, slightly indeterminate stroke from Pietersen, but nevertheless a good bit of bowling and an excellent bowling change by Smith. It's always like this though when you're so far ahead in a game - things just go for you, and they deserve to.

Unlucky KP. It was thrilling while it lasted.

Isn't Harmison still theoretically on a central contract that doesn't expire until next month? I'd have thought saying stuff like that would be in breach of it. I did read a few quotes from that interview, and he apparently questioned whether Pattinson deserved his cap.

Well, I've seen Pattinson now, and he hasn't noticeably bowled any worse than Harmison did repeatedly when being picked for England purely on the basis of reputation. It's extremely inappropriate for someone in Harmison's position to be making comments like that. Especially since the selectors kept on picking him long after most England fans would have sent him packing off back to Durham if they had the chance.

The Cheater takes a brilliant catch - a fair one this time, for a change.

Bell gone.

a brilliant catch in gully by AB De Villiers. Bell out off Morkel
Eng 140-5 after 55 overs - trails by 179

Perhaps now may not be the point to note that Yorkshire have reduced the prices for tickets today. From 2.30pm they will be £15 for adults, £10 concessions, £5 for children - cricinfo

they were 27 pounds for the whole day today.

£15 to watch the tailenders bat for a few hours, what is the point :raja

Rambo avatar added! I like it
They should have atleast made children free.

Radio was happy that the crowd is more behaved today, especially in the western side but

A delay now, which is apparently something to do with a bloke shining a mirror in the stands. A bit of a comedy pursuit from the stewards in the stands, but here we go again - cricinfo

Cook 60 out ct at cover by Amla off Kallis
Eng 152-6 after 59.3 overs - trails by 167

I held up a Glamorgan v Essex game up once....was watching the game in the stands, whilst listening to the radio which I was holding - it was a shiny silver one.

Umpires held up play - were trying to get my attention....I was in my own world....then the crowd started to jeer me....then I realised...and I covered up the radio...and everyone cheered.

Very embarrasing

Kallis bowling around 85-87 mph, quite impressive line & length aswell. Good to see him making up for the failure in his batting.

England goneski I reckon. The world's greatest pace bowling attack actually did reasonably well this time.

Stray and inventive cries of "Yorkshire! Yorkshire! Yorkshire!" from some men in the crowd for the Lancashire and Warwickshire players out there

Great come back by the Saffa quicks after the 1st Test.
Credit should also go to their batsmen for doing well in the 1st innings !!

Pollock saying when Ambrose came to bat there was some chat going around that there are some other wicket keepers making runs in county cricket. The other commentator said well there are some rules about sledging and Pollock said something like well they were discussing news and they didn't know if Ambrose heard about it and then laughs :)

Pollock (Durham) playing against Glamorgan tomorrow in T20. Winner plays Middlesex on Saturday semifinal
Owais Shah (Middlesex ) on line now
Owais has a benefit County championship match starting tomrrow

Essex and Middlesex - 2 counties with no ICL players are in semis. Kent is the 3rd team in semis who play Essex in semis

49 pounds for Satuday??? at some Oval. Could be Brit as it is in Britain. They said 3 matches for the price so it is probably Saturday
ticket hotline - 08702430291 - number might have a typo

I agree with you. Harmisson has always struck me as an immature cry baby to be perfectly honest with you. Here is the full quite that was attributed to Harmisson according to cricinfo...

"The amount of money the ECB have pushed into young bowlers, taking them to Chennai and the Academy - are we saying the young bowlers aren't good enough?," Harmison said. "I haven't seen him [Pattinson] bowl - I was asleep when we played them. But good luck to him, he has taken his chance. If he deserves it I'm not sure, but good luck to him."

He needs to grow up and take a long hard look at himself. But to be honest I don't think he really wants to play for England that badly any more.
