Bethell killed the momentum of the chase, Runs had to be scored from both end but he was just mistiming everything till he was dismissed and Root followed.

Im sure root is upset at india giving him another century and allowing him to score 537 runs this series
It was a terrible shot. He just cracked under pressure. Had multiple LBW shouts after Brook went. So long as Brook was around, Root was confortable. Just accept it. He has a great average in run chases. Will need to take a closer look at who was helping him maybe there :srt

Keep telling yourself that. Delusion doesnt have a limit

too many half cock shots by Eng lately due to lack of confidence. The ball has been moving quite a bit in the last 30 minutes

This TV Umpire should be educated that you do not take a million minutes to make a decision
Agree, this is also what slows the game down.

Obviously take your time to make the correct decision at a crucial junction in the game but no need to take an eternity on simple decisions.

You are needlessly getting worked up in your wild attempts to troll :srt
I am incapable of trolling. Indians call me a troll when I smack the living daylights out of them 24/7.

Ironic since devad and rajdeep and anyone who supports them are considered the biggest and most cornie trolls on the forumn lol

I have great hopes from you to not be a troll brother :kp

When sanghis call someone offensive name, it doesn't mean anything. They have no credibility. :inti

I have never trolled in my life, why would I? You troll someone to trigger a reaction. That's not really hard to achieve against indians when me simply breathing in this planet gets them riled up by default.

When the ball was talking earlier Root was batting outside of his crease to negate it
I guess pressure got to him after tea and he forgot to stay outside the crease again

This will be a day of entertainment and thrilling action
Keen to see the thoughts here of Indian posters @Vikram1989 @Hellion @Human786 @harshjoshi87 etc can you guys do it?

The English fans like @James @Rajdeep must be less confident of their side doing it.
Terrific game, super advertisement for test cricket.

Don't care even if India loses, they can hold their heads high. Gambhir needs to sort out his mistakes, not playing Kuldeep & Arshdeep in any match have cost India.

As for England, hope they bazball their way to win the Ashes finally after 15 years.

Heavy rain apparently :( This has been a great chase by Brook with Root playing a supporting actor worthy of a nomination but not the award :srt

So they deserve a chance at a win.

India have done brilliantly to come back into this game apart from being so good throughout the series despite a stupid coach and a young inexperienced captain. They too deserve a shot at drawing the series.

This game is gone. Tomorrow the momentum will be back with England as they will use heavy roller and its impact will be there for 35 runs that England will score. Probably most of those runs coming from one of the greatest batsman of all time , Steve Smith. Sorry my bad, Jamie Smith :lol :inti

Ohhhh forgot today is the 4th day.

Should be an easy win then tomorrow for England.

Absolutely top-class Test series—one of the best in recent times.

All five matches went to the fifth day, with momentum constantly shifting back and forth. The drama, the tension, the quality....uffff it had everything you'd want in a great Test series.

I do feel a bit sorry for Pakistan fans here who were hoping for a one-sided mauling so they could celebrate freely. But every time they started celebrating, India found a way to claw back into the game.

:kp

2-2 can make Indians arrogant. They may start to call it a series win. :inti

I would rather see a 2-1 than 2-2. Anyway, hoping for 3-1.
You’re thinking with a Bangladeshi cricket mindset—always looking for the easier way out, even if it means chickening out via rain.

But Englishmen? They’re made of tougher stuff. They’d rather fight it out on the field than let the game be dampened by the weather. As Winston Churchill once famously said - We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender.

This has been a fantastic series, and both England and India should be proud. In fact, they should celebrate together tomorrow at a Brick Lane curry house—with a spicy Vindaloo and an ice-cold beer in hand with a Bangladeshi waiter serving them.

England need just 35 more runs with four wickets in hand to clinch a thrilling victory over India in the dramatic final Test, after a chaotic fourth day at The Oval was cut short by bad light and rain.

In an electric atmosphere, England reached 339-6 in pursuit of a record target of 374 before weather brought play to a premature end with just an hour left.

Magnificent centuries from Harry Brook and Joe Root had seemingly put England in full control, but India’s relentless seam attack brought the match to life with a tense late burst.

Brook was dismissed for 111 after losing his bat while mistiming a shot off Akash Deep to mid-off. Jacob Bethell was bowled attempting a reckless swing, and Root fell for 105 after edging behind.

With 37 runs still needed, Jamie Overton joined fellow Surrey player Jamie Smith at the crease, while Chris Woakes – absent since day one due to a suspected dislocated shoulder – awaited his turn to bat.

Smith and Overton found it hard to make contact against a fired-up Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna, and the scoreboard barely ticked over. Overton narrowly survived a review for a catch behind off Krishna before the umpires halted play due to poor light, quickly followed by rain.

The Test – and the series – now hangs in the balance, with the final morning set to decide all. A win for England would seal the series 3-1, while India could level it 2-2 with a dramatic comeback.

There will be a heavy roller tomorrow in the morning ? Which means it should be easy for England.

Should have finished it today.

He isn't bengali, a sri Lankan hiding behind bengali identity.

Theres 150 years of History behind the Ashes though. For England and Australia fans, there's no series like it.
Every test series England play outside of the Ashes is an Ashes warm up yet they've only won 1 of the last 5 Ashes series .insane arrogance.
History has nothing to do with quality of cricket. West Indies team has more cricketing legacy than most of the teams yet no one is interested in watching them anymore due to low quality.

I am surprised England came this close to the chase. What an innings by Brook. Just fabulous. I thought 2-2 would've been fair result, but the way Brook and Root batted, Eng deserves to win the last match. Let's see what this FTB Jaimie Smith is made out of. Aksh Deep runs + Sundar's lusty blows at the end could be the difference.

England get a huge break and momentum break with the rain.

Sundar is still a proper batsman...but akash deep 66 would be a deadly blow to England....

Brook is more of a FTB than Jamie Smith. Jamie made 80 odd in the last day of the edgebaston test where akashdeep looked like McGrath.

His ton vs sl and 80 odd on a turner in Rawalpindi came in tough situations.

Bobble heads think they have a chance. England will walk the chase tomorrow morning.

India only have themselves to blame. Absolutely rubbish bowling apart from the last 20-25 mins.

How do you know that? They bat deep.

Jamie Smith is also capable of scoring big.

Then again, this type of loser-ish excuse is expected from Indian fans. :inti
Jacob bethel can't put bat to ball so 5 down and smith would have done some hacking and get out....root alone cant do anything then....

No way in hell England tailenders gonna score 30 odd runs on this spicy wicket....akash deep 66 would be difference in the end....

Oh absolutely, the entire universe wakes up every morning plotting India’s downfall. Planets, stars, and galaxies… all conspiring just to stack the odds against them!

Rain kinda saved England today. All the momentum was with India. Tomorrow will be a new day and batters will start fresh
Yeah that's my view too. But the esteemed Sanjay Bangar on the broadcast here (actually Bangar was pretty good for his limited abilities. Think he opened once in England and scored well when we didn't have any opener who could bat). Anyway he was saying sleeping on it will make them more nervous and the bowlers will have a good night's rest.
