After a gripping fourth Test at Old Trafford, where India staged a remarkable fightback to secure a draw, the series heads to The Oval for a thrilling finale. England, leading 2-1, were denied a series win in Manchester as Ravindra Jadeja (107*) and Washington Sundar (101*) batted heroically on the final day, refusing Ben Stokes' early handshake to reach their centuries 2612. The tension spilled over with heated exchanges, setting the stage for a high-stakes decider.

With both teams battling fatigue and niggles—Stokes' shoulder concerns and India's questions over Jasprit Bumrah's fitness—the fifth Test promises fireworks. Can India level the series, or will England clinch the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy?

Bumrah will chicken out and cry about the fact that he got mauled for 100+ runs. Watch this man abandon his team in a virtual series decider (draw or loss for india)

Hopefully Root scores one more century.

Can Temu root finally won a Series against India at home after 7 years ? He didn't win a series against India away from home since a decades. Softy statpadder :kp

Look like 4 years Rest is not enough for overhyped Archer so likely to chicken out from this match just after playing 2 test.

India should play Kuldeep, arshdeep , akashdeep instead Thakur , Siraj etc.

We need to play all Fully fit bowlers for this test even we need to rest Bumrah if he is not fully fit .

:kp

India ponder Bumrah call as sore Stokes vows to play decider

India coach Gautam Gambhir has declared pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and his entire pace bowling attack fit for the final Test against England that commences at The Oval on Thursday.

India face a selection dilemma of sorts ahead of the fifth and final Test against England at The Oval as they attempt to square the five-match series and remain in touch with the early pacesetters in the new ICC World Test Championship cycle.

This means Bumrah may be included for the series decider in south London, despite the fact the No.1 ranked bowler on the ICC Men's Test Bowling Rankings has already featured in three Tests across the series and met the desired workloads the team set for him prior to the series.

It also means injured duo Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh are fit and available for the contest, with Gambhir revealing after the draw in the fourth Test in Manchester that India will have a full quota of quicks to choose from in London.

"All the fast bowlers are fit," Gambhir said.

"There are no injury concerns.

"We haven't had any conversation around the combination for the last Test.

"No decision has been made on whether Jasprit Bumrah will play or not. Ultimately, whoever plays, they will try and do the job for the country."

India skipper Shubman Gill was also quizzed on whether Bumrah would play at The Oval and the young captain suggested the right-armer would be considered for the series finale.

"If he (Bumrah) feels like he's fully fit and available for us, I think it would be a great deal for us," Gill told the BBC.

"If he's not playing, I still think we have the right kind of bowling attack."

India may be tempted to include Bumrah in their XI for the Oval Test, with a victory at the iconic London venue meaning the five-match series would end 2-2 and would also keep the team in touch with the leaders on the World Test Championship standings.

The side will also be keen to collect some more points in the new World Test Championship cycle, with Gill's team currently sitting in fourth place on the standings with a percentage of just 33.33 percent through four matches.

India have already announced keeper Rishabh Pant will miss the fifth Test due to a foot injury, with uncapped back-up Narayan Jagadeesan added to the squad and in contention to feature in the series finale.

England too will be tossing up whether to tinker with their XI for The Oval Test, with Gus Atkinson, Sam Cook, Jamie Overton and Josh Tongue all a chance to be included should the side decide to rest star pacer Jofra Archer or first-choice duo Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse.

Skipper Ben Stokes has been England's best bowler across the first four matches of the series despite some ongoing injury ailments, but the inspirational captain suggested he would be fit to take the field in the series decider with the side's next Test after the London showdown not until the opening clash of the Ashes series against Australia in November.

"It's been a pretty big workload so far in the series," Stokes admitted.

"I had a big week last week at Lord's, with time spent out in the middle with bat in hand and obviously overs bowled, and then same again this week. I said it a few times to the guys out there: 'Pain is just an emotion.' It's just one of those things.

"It is actually my bicep tendon. It obviously had quite a lot of workload through it, just been creeping around. But yeah, (I have spent) a lot of time out in the middle doing my job as an all-rounder this week and (it) just got a little bit flared up. It didn't get any worse throughout the day, just stayed the same, so that's why I kept on going.

"Hopefully, it settles down and we'll be good as gold for the last game...I don't want to eat my words, but the likelihood that I won't play is very unlikely."

ICC

Statpadder puppet should ask his master to play Kuldeep & Arshdeep(if not injured) if he harbours any hope of drawing level at the Oval.

England add Jamie Overton to squad for fifth Test against India

England team is tensed at the moment, just like India was tensed during Lords match... So hopefully India cat pull off a win... It will be intersting to see if a case arises where India are in a position to win and England are in a position to draw, will England go for a draw (to win the series) OR maintain their bazball reputation?

No Pant, Eng has to win this match, this is a very weak, young Indian side. if Eng lose then test cricket as a whole is in trouble, shows the terrible lack of talent an international side like Eng puts on the field..

Terrible lack of talent? Excluding Crawley all of their batters are massively > India in test cricket atm.

India, Pakistan and Bangladesh have proven they can only win on doctored spin galore pitches.

The only reason people didnt mind this in Kohli's era is because kohli dominated away but that away dominant era is over once kohli's captaincy stint ended and ghambir came onto the scene.

For some reason though Sri Lanka doctores odi pitches but doesnt do so for test where they get stomped into oblivion by any touring side.

I dont know why, maybe cause Sri Lanka doesn't care about test anymore.

Not a weak side but missing pant is huge

Bowling is not at full strength though.

Akashdeep bumrah Rana would be our best trio partnered with sundar and jaddu

If spicy then put yudhvir Singh

But he is not picked obviously.

We can go with akashdeep Arshdeep and bumrah if fit next test. Or maybe drop bumrah and play siraj again although he must be dead tired

Post of the week by momin bro this is the reality which we should agree on great analysis.

Well Jamie Smith is the greatest bat though, so Eng should win the last match easy peezy kid .. 🤡..

But

If Eng lost the next match against this Indian side lol...

😂😂😂😂😂
Anything can happen in cricket, india in 2017 was objectively superior to pakistan yet lost by 180 runs.

I'm talking about who is genuinely superior on paper. Open your eyes for once and Use your brain to understand why an inexperienced 23 year old who is avg 35 this series, FTB Gill, Jurei now that Pant is injured, Sai and karun who both are avg under 30, and a temporary purple patch batting jadeja isnt superior

Then root, Crawley, Jamie Smith or Harry Brooks × Brydon Carse, Liam Dawson, Ollie Pope etc etc who are all 30 to 50+ avg Batters atm.

The lineup is too deep and some batters like Brooks, Root, duckett and Jamie smith are extremly good in South Africa, England and New Zealand and only realistically would struggle in Australia.

That's right kid, so Eng should win the next match easy without any issues 😇..

Playing at home, Bazball flat phatta wicket, greatest bat to ever play on a flat phatta when there is zero pressure, Root...

Eng must NOT lose this match even if they dont win, I repeat must NOT lose this match under any circumstances at the very least.....

England will score 1000 runs. Wait and watch ( for next 100 years)

Don't worry brother @Rajdeep draw is still on 🥳, and India has best record in this venue

Ofcourse it is on as India played their skin out. TBH the draw in Manchester felt almost like a win...only losing 4 wickets in last 5 sessions of a test match is monumental effort. So much so that Stokes and co went out frustrated in the end waving the white flag. I know your bias will not allow you to praise India but dnt understand the excitement you are displaying here.

They can't even beat West Indies or Bangladesh at home, currently :dw

That's why these threads by Bald bhai are getting weirder and weirder :rabada2

Decent chance for India to level up the series here
===

India's Test cricket record at The Oval in England comprises 15 matches played between 1936 and 2023. Out of these, India has won 2 matches, lost 6, and drawn 7. India's two victories at The Oval came in 1971 and 2021.

India cannot win the series now. Also, a draw can ensure an English series win.

May England win it. :dav

England is the best team in the world at London. Game is in the oval.

Impossible for India to beat them.

England have so many quality batsmen. But India still should have been up 2-1 with a rookie side. Shows you the fighting spirit in this side.

This England side is one of the best ever English teams of all time. They would smash 90s Pakistan side and make mince meat out of even the so called pretend goat Aus side of 2000 to 2006 on these bazzball pitches.

How dare people compare that Aus side to the real goat team of West Indies from 1980 to 1993. They are the goat test team of all time. No one comes close. Nobody.

They may have overstepped an bowled plenty of no balls as there was no drs etc but in their peak they were untouchable

Punter would be treated like a tulla by modern quicks such as carse archer etc.

Expecting both Overton and Atkinson to play as it's their home ground.
This bazbballinf English side would destroy any peak version of Wasim Waqar and past greats of 90s

Pak of 90s don’t stand a chance

This India side is a rookie team. Credit to them for fighting hard vs these marauding bazzballing monsters.

Have you ever heard of batting till number 10

How can someone even beat them?

Root is better than every batsman of 90s and 2000era though. Only sacchu is equal or slightly better.

Root will cross Sachin and their is absolutely nothing you can do about. End of

Yes.he will, Root will do it shortly he will get atleast 4 to 5 tours on flat phattas so the record will be his.

The greatest test bat on flat phattas I have ever seen.

🤡

India have the momentum , aiming to level the series on the closest to a sub continent pitch. If England choose to bowl first again or India bat first, the two batting hero’s of day 5 Manchester could also do something great to bowl India to victory. England lack spin , with their bowlers tired it’s an opportunity for Indian batsmen to take control. If I was an Indian fan I’d be confident going into the final test . A drawn series away is always a decent outing

In 2020, Pakistan was on course to win the first test only to lose the final session against Buttler and Woakes.

The last test series win India enjoyed in England was in 2007 but since then Pakistan and India have had similar records in England. Not sure what India is gloating about, Pakistan has won more series in England than India and it is India which has comfortably has had the better players than Pakistan in the last 20 plus years but their out put is not really different in England in comparison to Pakistan. If anything, Indians ko sharam se doob ke mar jana chaiye for terribly under achieving in India of late.

There should be asterisk next to Root's record because of the bazball era flat phattas that have greatly helped his recent output. :)

Biggest joke of the century. Wasim, Waqar will have an easier time getting through Harry Brook's defense for fun. They will make Stokes cry and throw a tantrum in retirement owning him

It is worth noting that Pakistan's bowling legacy diminished after the rest of world learnt about reverse swing.
That 1992 and 96 Eng series was all about reverse swing which the poms were clueless about; a unfair advantage tbh.

Pakistan bamboozled this so called best every England side at home 2-1 the moment they laid out dry spin pitches. This England batting unit is very one dimensional and cannot play on every pitch. Australians and South African's will brutally expose their bazball approach by preparing spicy pitches against them. Even Rohit tortured England with his captaincy in India and exposed England's bazball approach by placing fielders in the right areas which prevented the likes of stokes from hitting their way out of trouble against Bhumrah, Kuldeep and co. Not every opposition captain is a dumb paindu captain like Babar who will surrender the moment the opposition gets on top.

England used the same reverse swing to bamboozle the Aussies to win their first ashes in ages in 2005. Reverse swing was either illegal in 1992, 1996 or also in 2005. The brits cannot selectively hypocritically decide that reverse swing is haram for the opposition but Halal for them when convenient.

No, I am saying reverse swing was an unknown art in the 1990s, something which only the Pakistanis knew about .. to their credit. And it did give them an advantage.

But I agree the Brits were salty in the 1992 and 1996 tours, especially their media.

As the bro sweepy weepingly put his octopus prediction again, I am very happy now. I was worried that he kept quiet as a strategy.

ON flat wickets with no real aberration you won't get reverse unless you use external elements. You can't throw the ball vigorously into dirt these days. Zak crawley tried to do that in the 4th test for reverse. Ironically Pakistan umpire hasan caught that immediately and warned him. There is no better reverse swing bowlers than Shami and Umesh in the last 10 years. Even they could do that only in India not in England. Ground surface plays a part. They do scuff up vigorously on one side. THat is not enough. These days surfaces don't deteriorate for 10 days. So you need something else.

I don’t think so hey. Not on these flat pitches. I have seen them all play at their peak

No more bottle caps.

On bazzball flat pitches specifically they are goat I mean

India already won a series in 2021

So now against the best team in flat pitches, it’s a miracle that we still have the opportunity to make a come back in 5th test to atleast draw given we dropped so many catches and missed opportunities in the first 2 tests.

What external elements were used ?
Bottle caps, blade, pocket knife in some cases internal elements like nail, teeth. Coach says "You have to fight tooth and nail". Afridi misunderstood. Here he is dancing on the middle of the pitch lol Kevin pietersen immediately spotted it.

Brother, Eng can't lose to this Indian side next match, if Eng does, that is not good for test cricket as a whole.

From an Indian perspective ofcourse would want an Indian win but Eng losing to this inexperienced Indian side is bad for Test cricket...

This is precisely why it is slippery slope comparing players across era. My biggest issue is noball monitoring. These days they even monitor cutting the crease when they bowl wide. Those were frequently violated by players and they got away.

Asterisk will always be there. I have always said Root is the greatest batsmen I have seen when the conditions are perfect for batting..

England really does not have much changes to make.... They might bring Gus maybe

Yeah its the only thing that puts tenda > root otherwise root is > tenda in virtually every condition. Not to mention root has actually scored 500 runs in a series before :vk2

22 test matches in South Africa and Aus

A whopping 1 x 100.

Ladies and gentlemen the greatest bat of all time when conditions are ideal for batting.

None other than Joe the Asterisk Root.

I must say Root > Ricky ponting/Steve smith ;)
Root is defo > Ponting now but not Steve Smith.

You guys don't understand cricket. End of.

Let's win this one and end England's mysery.
What misery? India can either draw or lose? And they busted each and every myth while giving india 2 gut punches with 2 back to back root centuries?

India look more relaxed going into this test, they have the upper hand.

But England will dish out a flat road so they can break Sri Lakna's record of 952 & ensure another draw while India with the young puppet & his master will prefer 1-2.

England don't have a good bowling attack. I expect India to post 500 and England to post 500. Game should be a draw. :inti
England is the strongest team in flat wickets. Like best ever.

India will have to be at their absolute best to stand a chance.

if root performs in Aus then he is above sachin

Lol

No he is not, 3 ashes series with poor returns in Oz and all of a sudden if he has one decent series he is above SRT..

Ok 😇

If he does perform in Oz then he gets more credibility, that's for sure.

Lee Fortis, the head groundsman at The Oval, has been involved in multiple disputes with visiting teams over the years.

This is the same curator who also was involved in a spat during a match involving the Indian women’s cricket team at The Oval. There were reports of unprofessional conduct by Fortis, which led to a row between him and members of the Indian team.

This idiots should stay in his limits

In 2020, Pakistan was on course to win the first test only to lose the final session against Buttler and Woakes.

India's last few test series in England

1-0 in 1990
1-0 in 1996
1-1 in 2002
0-1 in 2007 (last Indian win in England)
4-0 in 2011
3-1 in 2014
3-1 in 2018
2-2 in 2021-22
2-1 in 2025

The last test series win India enjoyed in England was in 2007 but since then Pakistan and India have had similar records in England. Not sure what India is gloating about, Pakistan has won more series in England than India and it is India which has comfortably has had the better players than Pakistan in the last 20 plus years but their out put is not really different in England in comparison to Pakistan. If anything, Indians ko sharam se doob ke mar jana chaiye for terribly under achieving in India of late.
& In the southern hemisphere countries ?
