Who has been England most valuable player in last 15 years according to you?

Alastair Cook
Kevin Pieterson
Joe Root
Ben Stokes
James Anderson
Stuart Broad
Any other

I would say Cook, he was their most influential and best player in their two biggest wins of the last 15 years - Australia 2010/2011 and India 2012. He has been a rock for them for nearly 12 years, in a position that has given them plenty of headaches over the years. He has had more than dozen different opening partners.

Some would argue Pietersen, since he was devastating and a game-changer, but in spite of his genius, England would not have won those two series without Cook's consistency.

Anderson runs him close though, he has been the leader of the attack since 2008 and has won England many games. He has been a more reliable consistent performer than Pietersen.

Cook
Anderson
Pietersen
Root/Broad
Stokes

However, if we go back 15 years, then Nasser Hussain, Vaughan and Flintoff deserve a mention. Both played a big role - especially Nasser Hussain - in the revival of English cricket in the early 2000s, after they hit rock bottom in the late 90's.

Vaughan took over from Nasser and carried on from there, his leadership was a big part of the success that England enjoyed in the 2000s.

Agreed here. I would say, KP is a better bat but Cook had been a more valuable player for England over the years.

In bowling department , it is Anderson although I have my likings for Broad more but the recent performance in Ashes really sealed the deal. Not many fast bowlers have been able to maintain the standard as Jimmy has done at this age.

Think Swann could have been mentioned as well.

KP and JA

No doubt KP has been pivotal in some really big series wins, but feel Cook's value has been higher to England than it is for KP.

Cook deserves respect for leading the team through the 2012-2013 crisis and taking the team away from that phase. It wasn't all that plain-sailing ride for him but feel he deserves credit for that.

Swann all the way.

Consistent wicket taker who could also block an end up when he wasn't taking wickets, gadfly to the oppo with the bat - nobody was safe from a quickfire 35 when they thought they were through to the tail -plus excellent slip fielder, and brains trust to his skippers.

England never recovered from his loss. Should have played a lot more tests, but the hierarchy at the time didn't like him and kept picking people like Giles instead.

Swanny was certainly underrated. At the very least among the top three most valuable players.

Yes, amazing that Swann being a non Asian spinner has 17 5-fers in 60 tests. An all-condition bowler as well.
