Hard to believe its already been so much time but its been exactly 11 months since I arrived in Germany and embarked on this fantastic journey. The ERASMUS programme for those who arent aware is an EU funded initiative which allows tens of thousands of students every year study abroad for either 1 or 2 semesters (I did 2).

Through this programme I personally have made some great friends from all over the world including Macedonia, Jordan, Romania, Morocco and countless other locations, and have had so many magnificent memories. I did my studies here in Bochum and personally absolutely loved it, with the many many student benefits NordRhein Westphalia offers to students making the year even more memorable. As well as that I have managed to significantly improve my German language proficiency through interactions with locals and studying the language in college, with the EU OLS programme grading me at C1 level (realistically I believe im more B2 but still a big improvement on before)

I've created this thread as the initiative is over 20 years old now and every year becomes more and more popular, and no doubt some posters here either have or will do an Erasmus semester at some stage in the future. For the former I'd like to know where they went and how it was, and for the latter I guess this thread can be a very useful spot to post questions and ask for advice and tips and help and so on.

A truly magnificent aspect of the EU it must be said. Cant believe my time is already over!

we live in a country that is the final destination lol. if you are studying in usa you don't need to go any where else. be thankful!

Perhaps not for any academic benefit, even though that too is debatable. But cultural exchange of this sort would do kids in the US a world of good.

So what will happen to UK students now

We need something like that in America.

Well most colleges do have study abroad options which is sth similar to this

Perhaps my only regret of my college life is not going study abroad for a semester to Spain when I had the chance

American insularity writ large. Travel broadens the mind.

Donal Cozzie I am glad that you have benefitted from this excellent scheme. The Brexiteers have ended it for the Britons, sadly.

Yeah but it's not state funded, me and my friends do plan to do a semester but it's kinda pricey and I don't Europe is safe to travel right now.

Don't lose hope yet. I met plenty of non EU nationals who were part of the programme if I'm not mistaken, or at least were accompanied by us in classes and modules and stuff e.g Turks

Did my Erasmus in Sweden. It was a magnificent experience. Didn't bother to learn Swedish tho, as everyone speaks English there.

If you are a student in EU, I highly recommend this program. Our education ministry paid us around 300euros/month in "scholarship" for this program.

Here is an important link for different EU programs: http://oapee.es/oapee/inicio.html (Spanish)
