OK so many of you have probably seen the legend that is Pavel Florin being initially mocked - and then praised - by Twitter for his terrible bowling action.

But this is a guy who hadn't heard of cricket 8 years ago, is the first born and bred Romanian playing cricket and is now repping his country in an international club tournament. He's also become the president of his cricket club and is now giving back to a game he didn't know existed until he was a thirty-something old father.

It's guy like this that keep grassroots cricket alive.

7. When have you been the hero for your team and what did you do?

I would not call it a hero act, but it is the match that gave me confidence that I can be a good cricket player, I drove 500km during night time for 9 straight hours just to reach for the match in the morning. I stayed 14 overs on the ground and scored 34 runs not out.

:salute

Anyway, why am I making this thread? It's because this diddy little euro club tourney is actually being broadcast live on youtube with pretty good production values so sod it. We all pretend to be cricket lovers so let's give it a watch.

Oh and I can confirm that Pavel Florin is ten times the bowler that shaz619 is :))

It was on the Free Sports channel on Sky yesterday. I only saw a couple of deliveries while switching channels. They were bigging up some guy who plays for Catalunya and then he got out first ball!!
According to the commentators apparently over 14 million people in Russia are interested in cricket, which seems a bit dubious to be honest....

I guess Russian bot farm workers need something to watch in the background while they're destabilising Western democracy.

The German team throwing away wickets here, Spaniards on top at the moment unless Findorff can find some boundaries.

That Khalid chap just tonked a massive six back down the ground :))

3 overs left, the Germans need 14 an over. It's not impossible:murali

Teams from how many countries are playing in this league and are there any indigenous players?

oh my, this over might have won the game for Findorff.

61664b6

25 runs and the Germans need just 13 from the last two overs. Winner of this game makes the semi finals

I had literally never even heard of this tournament two hours ago :))

Pavel Florin is definitely native Romanian, you can check the teams on the tournament website to check the other sides.

:))) The guy thought he had won the game and celebrated when the scores were still level :)))

I'm looking at the squads now and the Swedish team has a couple of Henriksens, the Dutch side has some Dutch names, Russian team has a couple of Aleksandrs and the Romanian side has a few local sounding names including everybody's new hero Pavel Florin

I never said that :danish

Used to play with friends in the neighbourhood during teenage years. Had a bat in Egypt too, but eventually lost it after a few years.

Haven't played much since coming back, though.

Always great to see associate/semi professional level cricket, breath of fresh air were you can always expect the unexpected.. his action does look a bit suspect mind

It's not associate or semi pro level. It's club cricketers and he isn't a bowler. He only got a chance to bowl because everybody else getting smashed.

If you look at the video the batting team were going at 17rpo and he only conceded 13 so he did pretty well if you think about it :))

Ooh wow didn’t realise, even better for the club cricketers to get the exposure. Just seen the video properly, definitely something I can get behind

The final is live now and the Rotterdam side are absolutely destroying the German boys, holy crap.

In the 10th and final over and they've scored 200.

Scott Edwards has scored 124 from 36 balls and he's hit 5 sixes in a row here and there's one ball left!

:sendoff

He could only get a single from the last ball :mv

137 from 39 balls :O:O:O

Wicket off the first ball and then Ammar Khalid goes six and out. I don't think this will last too long :))

You know what, that's brilliant fielding for a mortal.

Pavel is a fantastic guy. However, he shouldn't play if he is injured. He is probably costing his team games.
