A PIA pilot on Thursday refused to fly an ATR plane from Karachi to Mohenjo-daro citing the reason of engine failure.

The chartered flight was scheduled to take employees of a foreign company to the archeological site in Sindh province, a private TV channel reported citing its sources in Civil Aviation.

Authorities say there was some problem with the instrument that restarts the plane’s engine, hence the ATR could not be allowed to take off.

The passengers will be taken to Mohenjo-Daro through another flight, the airline said in a statement.

The refusal of pilot, unnamed yet, comes a day after the colossal crash in Havelian region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which claimed 47 lives, including iconic singer turned preacher Junaid Jamshed and his family.

The airline says Captain Saleh Janjua, the pilot of the crashed ATR 42-500 that crashed on Wednesday, had made a mayday call and reported the failure of an engine before the turboprop lost contact with air traffic control.

PIA operates ATR 42-500 to connect Mohenjo-daro with scheduled passenger non-stop flights to/from Karachi and Sukkur.

These ATRs and Fokkers are always going down. Any sensible organization would have retired these planes. But then again this is the PIA we are talking about.

If donkey-karts could fly PIA would have those in her fleet as well.

Things unraveling for PIA.

Some shoddy management to say the least for such a large company.

AqalMund.

Anyone remembers Princess's Tweets after PM Launched the New PIA Premier Service with assistance of Srilankan Airline ?

#Brand Nawaz Sharif and stuff like PM has revived PIA etc etc.

PIA and GOP have been exposed.

Keep giving chance to this type of so called democracy inplace due to fraudulent corrupt Elections and keep suffering till Qayamatt. This so called democracy will never mature into real democracy and gov institutes will never be revived or reformed.

The ATR's are very much in service all over the globe. The ATR that crashed was the 42-500 which was a late 90s model and very much in service all over the globe. A reliable aircraft it's preferred by most low cost carriers since its lower service costs. I do not think the make or model is to blame here.

PIA is poorly managed and is disregarded by all parties involved. Even the staff have a lacklustre attitude towards their jobs or company. It's highly inefficient and poorly managed. No investor or International airline would invest in such a incompetent behemoth.

The management cannot cut fat and reduce expenses as the staff would create an uproar. The working culture is non existent. It's a money pit like every other subcontinent Asian national carrier. Its a Govt. naukri where people pass time till retirement!

Yes they are even unable to pay the rent of the planes.

Is this the experience and planning ?

I was told that the starboard engine flamed out and the plane banked towards the populated areas. The pilot tried to turn towards the other side and climb over the hill but there wasn't enough thrust and thus, hit the hill.

This suggests pilot error, although the gentleman in this case had 12,000 hours of flying experience. These planes are supposedly capable of flying on one engine. However, I suppose it is also convenient to brush it under the carpet as 'pilot error', since he is no longer there to tell his side of the story. After all, 'dead men tell no tales'.

I dont think its ATR fault. ATR is under service of Pakistani navy and in good condition. ....
its fault of Govt and PIA maintance and ther negligence.....

Wasn't PIA acquired by Etihad airlines recently?

Even the arabs aren't that dumb.

Etihad have been on a purchasing spree and have bought into Alitalia (Italy), Jet Airways (India), Air Berlin, Air Serbia and Air Seychelles.

Etihad have a code sharing agreement with PIA. This is a very popular transaction in the airlines industry. As a passenger say PIA cancel a flight, if an Etihad alternative is available then they can easily transfer you onto that flight.

No one in their right minds will buy into the likes of PIA!

Sadly, everyone in pakistan is always looking for a shortcut. Be it cricket, politics, or business, we always look to take the easy way out, and the results are rampant corruption and substandard management. There is no substitute for hard work and honesty. Maybe the coming generation will actually understand this and things will change for the better in 15-20 years.

I remember going to Pakistan many years back and one guy told

'In Pakistan there are two things you never know about 1.when the lights are about to go off 2. If you go out, no one knows if you will come back home alive'

That is the state of the country right now, you never know what will happen, getting on a train, going to the bazaar, getting on a plane or just going around the corner to pick up grocery's'

This sounds like life to me.

It's not just a Pakistan only nothing. None of the national carriers in the subcontinent are efficient. It's cultural thing!

They employ far too many people, the employees take there Govt' employee status for granted, management is hapless with the an inefficient workforce, lack of investment, changing Govt. are clueless as to how turn this disease around.

They suck so much of the tax payers money, nobody wants to buy them!!

Yet to see one political leader who has the balls t simply shut down the operation and sell the flying license/agreements for much needed money! Will save a huge amount of money, time and effort for the Governments.
