Five Pakistani Hindus get Indian citizenship

MUMBAI: Five Hindu Pakistani nationals who had sought Indian citizenship were granted their wish at a formal ceremony at the home ministry office in Mantralaya Friday. Three of the applicants were from Amravati- Ranibai Vaswani (26), Shantibai Keswani (73) and Anita Keswani (46). The others were Ritabai Sindhi (32) from Jalgaon and Prayana Mulchandani from Kolhapur.

Additional chief secretary (home) Sanjay Kumar and principal secretary Amitabh Gupta were present along with Jalgaon former MLC Gurumukh Jagwani who pursued the matter and liaised with the central government. Some of those who received their certificates Friday had waited as long as 20 years, said Jagwani, who had facilitated the citizenship of 13 Pakistanis in 2018.

Section officer Deepak Kharat said the applications were expedited in the wake of the Centre's 2016 notification to award citizenship to Hindu minorities from Pakistan. "Five district collectors-Mumbai city and suburban, Thane, Pune and Nagp- ur-have been given the power to grant citizenship to Pakistani Hindus, while those from other cities apply to the government," he said.

In Pakistan these guys will be treated badly for their religion, in India they will be mocked for being Pakistanis before. Should rather try moving to the west.

I don't know if you are following the news, but western countries are overthrowing govts in order to stop immigration from third world countries, no govt would open their doors to unlimited immigrants flooding in because 'they don't feel safe'. Even genuine war refugees are held in camps to assert their claims.

If India is allowing unlimited Pakistani Hindus to emigrate to India, then that is the route out for them.

And this isnt "unlimited" immigrants, its a small minority. My point was a Pakistani Hindu migrating to India would not be well received in India and Im sure he/she has had problems in Pakistan as well which is why they have decided to migrate.

Haha at handing PR like candy. My cousin just got his PR in Canada after almost 4 years of struggle. Before that it took him years just to get a visa. And this is a top professional who worked at IBM. What is this guy on about? My wife is Canadian and even for me with UK citizenship I won't get the PR like candy, never mind people from Pakistan with Pakistani passports.

They will rightfully seek nationality elsewhere if treated poorly at home. Can't blame them for that.

Sad we cannot take care of our minorities but are always looking for opportunities to talk about how Muslims are poorly treated in other countries.

Sad for them, they must have left Pakistan over genuine reasons because why else would someone want to migrate to a 3rd world hellhole like India? They won't find life easier in India, people will always suspect them because of the Pakistan tag. I hope their children get good education so that they can start life afresh. This also reflects poorly on Pakistan, it should sting the conscience of the Pakistani society.
