Former intelligence chief Faiz Hameed has been taken into military custody and the process for his court martial has been initiated in connection with the Top City housing scheme scandal, the army’s media wing said on Monday.

The development is a first in the country’s history where a court martial has been initiated against a former spymaster.

“Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry, was undertaken by Pakistan Army, to ascertain correctness of complaints in Top City case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd),” said a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).

It added: “Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of Pakistan Army Act.”

“In addition, multiple instances of violation of Pakistan Army Act post-retirement have also been established. The process of Field General Court Martial has been initiated and Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd) has been taken into military custody,” the ISPR further said.

The military had reportedly formed an inquiry committee in April to investigate allegations of misuse of authority against the former head of the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI).

Media reports had said the committee was formed by the military as a gesture of self-accountability and would be headed by a serving major general.

They had said the committee was formed in the light of directives of the Supreme Court and the Ministry of Defence.

In its written order issued on November 14, the apex court had said that allegations of an “extremely serious nature” against ex-spymaster retired Lt-Gen Faiz Hameed “cannot be left unattended” as they would undermine the reputation of the country’s institutions if they were proven to be true.

The written order had said: “The allegations are of an extremely serious nature, and if true, undoubtedly would undermine the reputation of the federal government, the armed forces, ISI and Pakistan Rangers, therefore, they cannot be left unattended.”

The management of Top City, a private housing scheme, had levelled grave allegations against the former ISI chief, claiming that he had orchestrated a raid on the offices and residence of its owner, Moeez Khan.

In November 2023, the Supreme Court had asked the owner of the housing society to approach the relevant quarters, including the defence ministry, for the redressal of his grievances against the former spymaster and his aides.

The newly constituted inquiry committee will prepare its report in the light of its findings and present it to the relevant authorities, the reports had said.

In March 2023, then-interior minister Rana Sanaullah said that a probe was underway against the ex-ISI boss and his brother over alleged corruption and accumulating assets beyond means.

In March 2024, a Rawalpindi court had sent retired naib tehsildar Najaf Hameed, brother of the former spymaster, to Adiala jail on a 14-day judicial remand. Najaf, along with co-accused persons, had sought pre-arrest bail in the FIR registered with the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) in Rawalpindi. The FIR had alleged that former minister for mineral resources Hafiz Ammar Yasir acquired properties worth billions of rupees in the name of benamidars.

Retirement and controversial past
Gen Hameed had opted to seek early retirement and sent his resignation to the high command in November 2022, according to unnamed sources. He was made the ISI chief in June 2019.

He was among the six senior-most generals whose name was included by General Headquarters in the list of potential candidates for the two top military offices, sent to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for approval in November 2022.

Before assuming charge as Bahawalpur corps commander, Gen Hameed had worked in the same position in Peshawar.

The former spymaster has been the subject of many controversies in the country’s political landscape for the past decade.

Gen Hameed’s name first caught the public eye when he helped end the Faizabad dharna by the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan in November 2017 through an agreement.

In a suo motu notice of the incident, the Supreme Court in February 2019 had ruled that the ISI, the Intelligence Bureau, Military Intelligence and the Inter-Services Public Relations “must not exceed their respective mandates”.

He had been the target of strong criticism from PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz for allegedly having a role in their convictions and for backing the previous set-up under PTI.

Petition
As per the petition, on May 12, 2017, the Pakistan Rangers and officials of the ISI raided the office of Top City and Moeez’s residence and took away valuables, including gold and diamond ornaments and money, in connection with a purported terrorism case.

The petition further stated that Gen Hameed’s brother Sardar Najaf mediated and tried to resolve the issue. After his acquittal, the petition claimed, Gen Hameed contacted Moeez through the latter’s cousin — a brigadier in the army — to arrange a meeting.

The petition claimed that during the meeting, Gen Hameed told the petitioner that he would return some of the items taken away during the raid except for 400 tola gold and cash.

The petition claimed that retired brigadier Naeem Fakhar and retired brigadier Ghaffar of the ISI allegedly “forced” the petitioner to “pay 4 crores in cash” and “sponsor a private AAP TV network for a few months”.

As per the petition, former ISI officials Irtaza Haroon, Sardar Najaf, Wasim Tabish, Zahid Mehmood Malik, and Mohammad Munir were also “involved in the illegal takeover of the housing society”.

Why arrested him now? may be his conscious has become alived too...or revenge fo his past services?

It seems like something is brewing in the background. With Qazi Faiz Isa propping up Election Commission in his verdict today to change election results with no repercussions and army playing mind games with arresting Faiz Hameed.

I guess this is a pressure tactic to let people know that the plan of 2/3 majority will be given to current government and Army + QFI intends to rule for the next 3-5 years with no pressure. Let's see what comes out of it now.

So stupid of them anyways a recipe for Bangladesh 2.0

Faiz should face the allegations but as we saw with MR and the raid at Bahria, it could be drama and Faiz turns witness against IK. If Faiz was advising PTI and created the media cells, surely it's not difficult for the mafia to Copy and also become popular. The fact is that whether it's now or later, PK will get civilian rule. I just hope the mafia guys pay for the murder and evil they committed.

Clear pressure tactics against PTI and IK to bow down.

I am surprised the establishment is happy with this. There is one golden rule inside the army do what you want but no retired general should be humiliated and made to stand trial. Even when the army decided to pull the strings on Musharraf in 2008, they worked actively to get guarantees he would not be touched and humiliated after wards.

Faiz Hameed cultivated strong ties with the Taliban, and the timeline of the deterioration of Afghan - Pak relations reveals a clear correlation with him being cornered by the establishment. The establishments inherent ability to shoot at the nation's feet is impeccable. They not only went after him, but also targeted his family; his brother was wrongfully implicated in a graft case related to a land acquisition scandal involving government officials long after retiring as a Tehsildar. Despite other senior co-accused receiving bail promptly, his brother faced unjust detention on unfounded claims of non-attendance in court, even though he was present.

His connections extended to the Haqqani family, and he played a pivotal role in mediating peace within the Taliban during critical moments, earning him significant respect within Afghanistan.

It is but in the bigger picture Faiz and The Generals have all be corrupt. And knowing how much these guys love blackmailing each other, don't be surprised that some anonymous account alleges stuff about Munir and Bajwa. In the long term this system has to go and IA brick by brick.

Appears to be a tactic to suppress PTI and IK. Also so foolish too as its not an accountability drive but topi drama

At some point, people in the institution will ask themselves, how long will we allow one madman at the helm of affairs and a personal servant to a political family drag down the institution to the point of no return?

We’ve seen major generals facing disciplinary hearings, corps commander getting sacked after the current coas removed the security from his residence to allow protesters to attack him.

We’ve seen Malik Riaz’s office being raided.

And, now the former DG ISI is in custody.

You’d think this would be enough to create an internal coup within the establishment, but the end result will remain the same.

Patriots don’t run away to London when they can’t face their time in jail.

IK has shown PMLN who the sher is. The one that still stands up against the establishment even after they tried to take him out.

Nawaz and PML-N were humiliated in the recent elections. The people overwhelmingly rejected the “patriots”, and when the time comes they’ll be chased out of the country.

So smashing the constitution and locking up the people without trial is patriot? Killing innocent people is patriotic? Conspiring with criminal politician is patriotic? Your definition of patriotism falls at the 1st hurdle

Yeah obviously it's just an attempt to put extra pressure on IK to make him surrender to this mafia but I am sure this move will be the final nail in their coffin as an uprising is likely to start very soon within the army.

Politicians react to court martial proceedings against Faiz Hameed

Several politicians reacted to former Director General (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed’s custody by the military and court-martial proceedings against him.

Punjab Governor

In a statement issued here, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider welcomed the decision. He said that accountability should not be limited to individuals, but rather be a universal principle applied to all, including generals, judges, politicians, and bureaucrats for ‘misusing’ the powers.

Sardar Saleem Haider said that there is no alternative to accountability for the country’s progress and prosperity. “It is welcoming that the army initiated the accountability process within its own ranks,” the Punjab governor added.

Javed Latif

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Javed Latif said that the mastermind behind the May 9incidents was not just the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan but an entire team was ‘involved’.

Javed Latif said that the May 9 riots were a result of a collective effort, and it would be unfair to blame a single individual. The PML-N leader expressed regret over delay in the action.

“It would have been better, had the action was taken way earlier,” he added.

Faisal Vawda

Separately, former Federal Minister and Independent Senator Faisal Vawda said that the Pakistan Army sent a clear message of accountability that it does not differentiate between individuals when it comes to accountability.

Speaking to ARY News, Faisal Vawda also praised the current army leadership, saying they are honest and have sent a message that no one is above the law.

“Those who were once considered powerful are now facing accountability,” the Senator said.

Atta Tarar

Federal Minister for Information Atta Tarar urged that the issue of Faiz Hameed should not be linked with the government, saying that the ISPR has already issued a ‘clear’ press release.

Atta Tarar said that the army has its own inquiry system of accountability and is a merit-based organisation.

“Some irregularities related to the Top City scandal were found against Faiz Hameed, of course, the investigation must have gone on for several months and what has come to light has come only after that,” said Atta Tarar.

Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui

Muttahida Qaumi Movement Pakistan (MQM-P) Chairman and Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui said that the case of former ISI chief, Faiz Hameed, is beyond their knowledge or control.

Earlier in the day, Faiz Hameed has been taken into military custody, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

According to the Pakistan Army’s media wing, court-martial proceedings have also been initiated against former DG ISI Faiz Hameed.

“Complying with the orders of Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry was undertaken by the Pakistan Army, to ascertain the correctness of complaints in the Top City Case made against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd). Consequently, appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against Lt Gen Faiz Hameed (Retd), under provisions of Pakistan Army Act,” the ISPR said.

‘Faiz Hameed was interfering in political matters even after retirement’

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif claimed that Former Director General (DG) Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed was involved in political ‘maneuvering’ even after his retirement, ARY News reported.

Speaking to a private news channel, the defence minister said that the former ISI chief was ‘interfering’ in politics for several years and that he had been working on a plan since 2013.

Khawaja Asif also revealed that he had met with the former ISI chief at the residence of an army officer, claiming that during the meeting Faiz Hameed had expressed his desire to become the Army Chief.

“Former Amry Chief Qamar Javed Najwa and Faiz Hameed were very close to each other and conspiracies were hatched by them in 2013. Qamar Javed Bajwa took office in 2016 and after his assumption of office, the implementation of conspiracies was started,” Khawaja Asif added.

He also claimed that the former ISI chief had been sidelined by Qamar Javed Bajwa during the last three or four days of his tenure.

So Bajwa is under house arrest by the sounds of it?
If Hameed does not accept the deal and choose to spend the remainder of his life under house arrest, then Bajwa will inevitably be the next target.

This new development may have the intended consequence of casting the Chief Justice in a somewhat more favorable light.

Qamar Zaman Kaira, a leader of the Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP), has remarked on the recent situation regarding Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed, the former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (DG ISI), who has been detained by the Pakistan Army for a Field General Court Martial (FGCM).

The former DG ISI has been taken into military custody and the Pakistan Army initiated a Field General Court Martial.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), following the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Pakistan Army conducted a detailed investigation into the complaints against Hameed, particularly in connection with the Top City case.

The inquiry confirmed multiple violations by Hameed, prompting the initiation of disciplinary proceedings under the Pakistan Army Act.

Kaira emphasized the significance of the military’s internal accountability measures, noting that the initiation of a court martial for a senior officer like Faiz Hameed suggests the gravity of the alleged violations.

He also remarked on the Supreme Court’s role in ensuring that both the government and military establishment adhere to the rule of law.

The PPP leader underscored the seriousness of the situation, stating that if the military has decided to proceed with such measures against a high-ranking officer, it indicates the severity of the offenses in question.

Saddam Hussain had a tight security arrangement and intelligence apparatus during his rule. No one would dare to lead a coup or dissent against him. Any who even dreamt of it was swiftly executed or if they were unreachable, their families would get targetted. AM has employed the same tactics and has gone after the immediate and distant family members of overseas Pakistani's and important individuals currently living outside Pakistan.

Mind you if took a super power armed intervention and invasion to finally remove Saddam Hussain from power and control of Iraq. Only changes in the Whitehouse will make a difference and even then AM has boasted to his senior army leadership he is prepared to defy the US if need be on PTI and IK.

PTI declares action against Faiz Hameed an internal military matter

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has labeled the action taken against Lieutenant General (R) Faiz Hameed as an internal matter of the Pakistan Army.

The former Director General of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Faiz Hameed, was recently taken into military custody, and a field court martial process has been initiated against him.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistan Army conducted a detailed inquiry into complaints against Hameed, following orders from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.

The investigation, related to the Top City case, led to the initiation of disciplinary proceedings under the Pakistan Army Act.

In response, PTI Chairman's legal representative, Barrister Gohar, emphasized that the military’s actions are strictly internal. He stated that the Pakistan Army is a disciplined and organised institution with its own procedures for dealing with both serving and retired officers.

He further added that the army's internal actions cannot be questioned by external entities.

It is only a matter of time.

I have come across a rumor suggesting that Nawaz Sharif may be restricted from traveling outside of Pakistan.

It’s hard to understand who is right and who is wrong. AM is certainly no saint and has blood on his hands, who will hold him accountable?

This has set a precedent where army officers going forward will be prosecuted and harrassed for being sympathetic to certain political parties. What happens in the future under a PTI government? The establishment gets purged off all PML N and PPP sympathizers?

I hope so but I don't see. I think the mafia are in full control and will stay so at all cost. Unless a random event happens, this will take years to undo. Munir isn't here to play 2nd fiddle and PK has lost and will lose.

I see you have lost your nerve. Is Khwaja right or wrong?

No one cares about the musical chair politics in pakistan and the big daddy which is the establishment it's been going on for decades one prime minister was even hanged.

The main question is may 9th , repeat Banglabashi 1971 drama, bringing back ttp and love affair with afghanistan and Afghans and their free corrupt access to pakistan from fake citizenship and passports .

Question how much involved was messiah and his favourite general the spymaster.

Please don't run off and answer the question. Because in a court case recently the only evidence provided by the mafia was the evidence of a Policeman who claimed he hid under the desk as the PTI held a meeting. I am sure you would agree with me that you have to particularly stupid to believe that story.

Faisal Vawda has claimed that Hameed was behind IK'S attempted assassination and the killing of Arshad Sharif. So my question is why have the current Generals blocked any investigations. And what happened to trial of the alleged Assasin?

Faiz was corrupt. And he was the one that gave TLP empowerment.

Good stuff by the army, he needs to be hanged

Former ISI chief Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed’s arrest army’s internal matter: Khan

Former prime minister Imran Khan has that the arrest of former Inter-Services Intelligence director general Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hameed was an internal matter of the military and the PTI had nothing to do with the development.

“Khan sahib said just this that ‘it is the army’s internal matter’ and that whatever action the army has taken has nothing to do with the PTI or Khan sahib,” PTI lawyer Intezar Panjutha told reporters after having a meeting with the incarcerated party founder in Adiala Jail on Tuesday.

PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan spoke on a similar wavelength after the development, saying that the army has its structure and the institution can take action against anyone it wants, as per “its own will”.

In a shocking development on Monday, the military’s media wing said that Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed has been taken into military custody and the process of field general court martial has been initiated against him about the Top City housing scheme scandal.

“Appropriate disciplinary action has been initiated against the former spymaster under provisions of the Pakistan Army Act,” the Inter-Services Public Relations said in a statement.

According to the ISPR, the action was taken following the Supreme Court orders into the case.

When asked, Panjutha said Khan was “clear on the matter and has said: ‘We never had a political relationship with Gen Faiz or anyone. My relationship with him was till October 2021 when he was changed [as ISI chief]’.”

The PTI lawyer added that Imran alleged that former army chief Gen (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa “changed him [Gen Hameed as ISI chief] for the sake of his extension in a deal with Nawaz Sharif”.

Panjutha said: “Khan sahib said just one thing ‘if these developments are connected with May 9 then it is a very good opportunity.’”

Kaptaan gave a straight bat to a curve ball. Hameed must face his charges and as Kaptaan said we welcome a full Judicial commission into 9th May. This will never happen because the whole thing was a false flag carried out by Naqvi, Munir et Al.

The current situation seems to be a strategic maneuver by the system to scapegoat an individual, creating the illusion of a stance against corruption and a defense of democratic values.

Ultimately, this appears to be nothing more than a precursor to a negotiated settlement.
umm no its not.

You can read stories of how Faiz was giving away money to people. Guy was corrupt to the core.

His boss was Bajwa. Are you saying he disobeyed his boss. Don't they call that a mutiny? The problem with you guys is that you can't accept that the people you claimed were neutral were the ones that ended up with 12bn in their accounts and destroyed every institution. And now you will disappear from the thread like you do🤣🤣🤣🥰

What is Top City controversy behind Faiz Hameed's court martial?

Former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed is facing potential court-martial following an investigation into his alleged misconduct in the Top City Case, the military announced on Monday.

In a statement, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) revealed that the Pakistan Army had conducted a thorough inquiry based on the Supreme Court's orders.

The investigation uncovered significant violations of the Army Act, which has led to disciplinary action against Hameed and the initiation of a Field General Court Martial (FGCM).

The Top City Case

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed an investigation into the alleged misconduct of Lieutenant General (R) Faiz Hameed in connection with the Top City housing scheme case.

The case centres on accusations against Lt-Gen (retd) Faiz Hameed and his associates involving the raid of Top City Housing Scheme. In 2023, Moeez Ahmed Khan, the owner of the housing scheme, petitioned Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa’s bench, alleging a severe breach of legal conduct.

Khan contended that in May 2017, Rangers personnel and ISI agents conducted an unauthorized raid on the Top City office and the residence of Kunwar Khan, a key figure associated with the scheme.

According to the petition, the security forces seized valuable items including gold, diamonds, and cash, claiming they were part of a terrorism investigation.

Subsequently, Sardar Najaf, Hameed's brother, allegedly contacted Kunwar Khan with a brigadier to arrange a meeting. During this meeting, Hameed purportedly promised to return some of the confiscated items but reportedly withheld 400 tolas of gold and a significant sum of cash.

Kunwar Khan has accused Hameed of malicious prosecution and alleged that retired ISI brigadiers Naeem Fakhar and Ghaffar exerted undue pressure on him to pay 4 crores in cash and support a private television network. The petition also highlights that several former ISI officials were allegedly involved in an unlawful takeover of the Top City Housing Society.

Charity begins at home. If the institution is serious about accountability then there are many guys like Faiz roaming out there freely. They should be punished too.

Three retired personnel in military custody related to case against ex-ISI chief Gen Faiz Hameed: ISPR

Three retired military personnel were taken into military custody in connection with court martial proceedings against former spymaster Faiz Hameed for his alleged involvement in victimising the owner of a private housing society, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a press release on Thursday.

According to the statement, three retired officers were under military custody for “actions prejudicial to military discipline”.

“In connection with the FGCM proceedings of Lt Gen (Retd) Faiz Hameed, three retired officers are also in military custody for their actions prejudicial to military discipline,” the military’s media affairs wing said.

“Further investigations of certain retired officers and their accomplices for fomenting instability at the behest of and in collusion with vested political interests are continuing.”

In an unprecedented step, the army on Monday announced Gen Hameed’s arrest, the previous head of the premier Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) agency, on allegations of violating the Army Act. According to a source, Gen Hameed was taken into custody from Rawalpindi when he was summoned for a meeting by a senior military official.

The move, prompted by allegations of misconduct levelled by the owner of a private housing society, shattered the long-standing perception that spy chiefs were untouchable in the country where generals have long wielded unparalleled influence.

The army cited a November 2023 directive from the Supreme Court of Pakistan, which instructed Kanwar Moeez Khan, owner of Islamabad’s Top City housing society, to seek redressal of grievances against Gen Hameed through relevant channels, including the Ministry of Defence, as the basis for initiating action against the former spymaster.

‘Very unusual event’

Reacting to the development, former interior minister and PML-N leader Rana Sanaullah told Geo News that it was a “very unusual event and I don’t think there is any example of this present before at this level.”

He said the government was aware that an inquiry was underway against the former spy chief and his name cropped up regarding other affairs as well, which, Sanaullah said, could have impacted today’s development as well.

“People had very little hope or the idea that action would be taken at this level,” he said, adding that the move would add to the military’s repute and confidence in having a system of accountability “no matter the position”.

Meanwhile, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said while speaking during Geo News show ‘Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath’: “Gen Faiz has definitely had a hand in the events on the political scene since his retirement. Knowing him a little bit, he could not abstain and had to muddle the waters.”

He further said: “For a person who exercised immense and unlimited power to take a backseat causes ulcers to them.”

Asif reiterated that Gen Hameed had a “directly more” role in events since his retirement. He also claimed the former spymaster “could have had a role in what happened on May 9”, referring to the nationwide riots that broke out last year on PTI founder Imran Khan’s arrest.

“I can’t say with certainty but events do point the finger towards him.”

The case against Gen Hameed

The military had reportedly formed an inquiry committee in April to investigate allegations of misuse of authority against the former head of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

The written order had said: “The allegations are of an extremely serious nature, and if true, undoubtedly would undermine the reputation of the federal government, the armed forces, ISI, and Pakistan Rangers, therefore, they cannot be left unattended.”

He was the eye of the storm in an alleged standoff between the military and the PTI government over the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum as the new chief of the ISI in the last quarter of 2021.

The army had announced on October 6, 2021, that Gen Hameed was appointed the Peshawar corps commander, while Lt Gen Anjum was appointed in his place. But the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) had not issued an official notification of Lt Gen Anjum’s appointment until three weeks later, leading to frenzied speculation of strains in civil-military relations.

After delays, the PMO had eventually notified the appointment of Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum as the new ISI chief on Oct 26, 2021. Imran had later said he never wanted to “bring his own army chief” and that he “never meddled” in Pakistan Army’s affairs.

Gen Hameed was among the six senior-most generals whose name was included by General Headquarters in the list of potential candidates for the two top military offices, sent to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for approval in November 2022.

In a suo motu notice of the incident, the Supreme Court in February 2019 had ruled that the ISI, the Intelligence Bureau, Military Intelligence, and the Inter-Services Public Relations “must not exceed their respective mandates”.

He had been the target of strong criticism from PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz for allegedly having a role in their convictions and for backing the previous set-up under PTI.

In July 2018, former Islamabad High Court (IHC) judge Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui had made serious allegations against personnel of a security agency, claiming that they were manipulating judicial proceedings. He also claimed the agencies approached the IHC chief justice to ensure Nawaz and Maryam remained behind bars for the elections. The judge was subsequently sacked.

However, in December 2023, he had named several retired army generals, as well as some former judges, as parties in the case against his removal.

Senior counsel Hamid Khan, on behalf of the ex-judge, had moved an amended application before the Supreme Court to name as respondents in his petition former army chief Qamar Javed Bajwa, Gen Hameed, three retired brigadiers — Irfan Ramay, Faisal Marwat and Tahir Wafai — as well as a former chief justice of the IHC, Anwar Khan Kasi, and a former registrar of the Supreme Court, Arbab Muhammad Arif.

Gen Hameed rejected the allegations of his involvement in the constitution of the IHC benches to prolong the detention of Nawaz and Maryam in his response to the petition, claiming that the judge had dragged him into the case for no reason.

Furthermore, then-human rights minister Riaz Pirzada claimed in February 2023 that Gen Hameed wanted to bring the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) back to the country.

In May 2023, former federal minister Faisal Vawda accused Gen Hameed of being the “architect, mastermind, and biggest beneficiary” of the Al-Qadir Trust case.

The case alleges that former prime minister Imran Khan and his wife obtained billions of rupees and land worth hundreds of kanals from Bahria Town Ltd for legalising Rs50 billion, which was later identified and returned to the country by the UK during the tenure of the PTI government.

Gen Faiz arrest military's internal matter, says Imran Khan

Distancing himself from the former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lieutenant General (retd) Faiz Hamid, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) founder Imran Khan has said the arrest of the retired general is an internal matter of the Pakistan Army.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on August 12 announced the arrest of the former ISI chief, saying that he was "taken into custody" over allegations of land grabbing and snatching valuables from the owner of a private housing society.

"Complying with the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, a detailed court of inquiry was undertaken by the Pakistan Army to ascertain the correctness of complaints in the Top City Case made against Lt Gen (retd) Faiz Hamid," the army's media wing said earlier this week.

"I have no connection with General (retd) Faiz," the incarcerated PTI leader said on Thursday while talking to journalists at Adiala Jail.

"If the military wants the accountability of General Faiz [then] it should proceed and do it," Khan said, asserting that it is the army's internal matter.

Welcoming the development, the former premier said it was good that army has launched the process of internal accountability, he noted. However, he urged the military to ensure that the process of accountability should be across the board.

Responding to a question relating to his past engagement with the former spymaster, the 72-year-old cricketer-turned-politician said that while he was the premier he did not want to remove General Faiz from his office amid regime change in Afghanistan.

At the time, General Faiz was engaged with the Afghanistan government and Taliban, the PTI founder said, adding that the former army officer arranged his meeting with then US envoy on Afghanistan’s peace process Zalmay Khalilzad and Taliban representatives.

well they are, they are startring with Faiz
This comment is reminiscent of the claims made during Imran Khan's tenure that the military and the Pakistani government were aligned. However, it has become painfully clear that the current PML-N and PPP never truly diverged from the military’s agenda.

Meanwhile, Faiz is being made a scapegoat, the internet is being systematically shut down, Pakistanis are fleeing the country in droves, and journalists are being kidnapped and killed with impunity. If anyone believes this travesty is what accountability looks like, then by all means, enjoy the delusion.

Minister Tarar predicts more arrests to ensure 'national stability'

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has indicated that the recent wave of arrests will not be confined to a single institution, signaling a broader crackdown on attempts to destabilize the country.

Addressing a press conference on Thursday, Tarar emphasized that maintaining peace and order remains a top priority for the government.

Tarar revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will soon announce relief measures for electricity bills in his address to the nation. This move is part of the government's broader economic reforms, which Tarar assured will soon benefit the public.

"The Prime Minister is set to present a comprehensive five-year economic plan in his upcoming address," Tarar said. "Despite ongoing economic challenges, the government is committed to providing maximum relief to the people."

On the topic of accountability, Tarar confirmed that the government supports ongoing investigations and welcomed the recent press release from the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The statement revealed that three additional officers had been detained following the arrest of General (retd) Faiz Hameed.

Tarar alleged that a political party leader with links to Hameed is involved in efforts to undermine national integrity. He described the current situation as part of a broader conspiracy against the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), asserting that ongoing arrests are shedding light on these schemes.

"The country is experiencing destabilization linked to PTI's founder, Emma," Tarar stated. "These are not new issues; conspiracies are gradually being unveiled, and more revelations are expected."

The Minister stressed that maintaining national stability is imperative, and anyone found compromising this stability will face consequences. The ongoing process of accountability, he said, will extend beyond individual institutions, reinforcing the government's commitment to addressing and rectifying these issues.

Pak establishment giving the Punjab Police a run for its money. The Sharif family dream project was to get the establishment under its grip like the Punjab Police.

According to Moed Pirzada, this whole drama is to pressurize IK and PTI to compromise and accept the establishment's demands i.e. abolishment of the present assemblies, setting up another technocrat caretaker government for the next 4-5 months in the centre and provinces, to let go of the demand to restore the Feb 8, 2024 mandate, and to agree to a new election where the establishment will learn from their Feb 8, 2024 and manage the Form 45's better to ensure it reconciles better with Form 47's and to give the PDM a two thirds majority.

IK is holding firm for now and hence these pressure tactics of military courts.

Audio call between Faiz Hameed and Absar Alam leaked

An audio clip allegedly containing a conversation between former Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) chief General (Retd) Faiz Hameed and renowned journalist and former Chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Absar Alam has been leaked.

The audio was released on social media by private TV channel Samaa.

In the alleged phone call, General (Retd) Faiz Hameed reportedly complains to Absar Alam about not being given a lift. He then asks him to do a favor.

The phone call also mentions Brigadier Ghaffar, who was recently arrested.

The audio reveals Hameed complaining that Alam has not been paying much heed to him, with the latter replying ‘saari liftein aap kay liye hain’.

The general goes on to say that a brigadier will be arriving to talk to Alam regarding the licenses of two channels that are ‘stuck’ instead of proceeding.

Hameed can be heard asking Alam to grant him a favour.

He adds that he had decided to call Alam himself after the brigadier complained that his issues were not being resolved despite repeated requests.

The audio clip is 1 minute and 32 seconds long in total.

The audio suggests that Absar Alam was serving as Chairman of PEMRA at the time of the call. However, it is unclear if General Faiz Hameed was already appointed as ISI chief during that period.

It is worth noting that Absar Alam is currently associated with Samaa TV.

Assuming neither of us is moonlighting as a government official, let’s give our audience some credit. They're savvy enough to get their facts from sources beyond the state-controlled Pakistani media, yes, even with the government and DHA mafia pulling the strings.
