Eric Trappier, the chairman and chief executive officer of Dassault Aviation which makes Rafale fighter jets, has again rejected Pakistan’s claims and clarified that India lost one Rafale during Operation Sindoor and revealed the reason for the loss.

Eric Trappier, the chairman and chief executive officer (CEO) of Dassault Aviation which makes Rafale fighter jets, has again rejected Pakistan’s claims and clarified that India lost one Rafale during Operation Sindoor and revealed the reason was a technical failure at a high altitude. Pakistan has repeatedly claimed that its military shot down five fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF), including three Rafales. Trappier said in a statement that Pakistan's claims were "inaccurate and unfounded."

What did Trappier say?
According to the French website Avion Chasse, Trappier admitted to the loss of one aircraft during the operation but added the incident occurred without contact with the enemy. The Dassault CEO further stated that their Spectra electronic warfare systems did not record any hostile engagements during the India-Pakistan conflict. He said that flight logs transmitted to Dassault also did not indicate any losses in combat, adding his company had never hidden losses of its aircraft.

Is Rafale being targeted?
Authorities in France have said that a "disinformation campaign" was being run against Dassault's Rafale fighter jets. The vast campaign "sought to promote the superiority of alternative equipment, notably of Chinese design," according to a statement from France's defence ministry. "The Rafale was also targeted because it represents a strategic French offering. By attacking the aircraft, certain actors sought to undermine the credibility of France and its defense industrial and technological base," the statement added.

India-Pakistan conflict
India launched coordinated precision strikes on numerous terrorist bases in Pakistan on May 7, two weeks after a brazen terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, as New Delhi said the involved terrorists were associated with outfits operating from Pakistan. In retaliation, Pakistan launched a series of attacks using drones and missiles, most of which were intercepted mid-air by Indian air defense systems. A ceasefire between the two nations was announced following four days of hostilities, on May 10.

Opposition member asks Modi govt to do a parade of all Rafale fighter jets to show the world that India didn't lose any Rafale jets against Pakistan.

The Indian opposition mounted a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government during a heated Lok Sabha session, following claims by a Member of Parliament that a Rafale fighter jet was shot down during the May engagement with Pakistan.

Amarinder Singh Raja, a Lok Sabha member, stunned the Lower House by revealing images of the Rafale jet’s wreckage, which he claimed had fallen near the Bhisiana Air Force Station in Punjab. He cited the serial number on the aircraft’s tail as evidence, further asserting that an Indian air marshal had confirmed the downing of the French-made jet.

Amritsar MP Gurjit Singh Aujla escalated pressure on the Modi-led government, demanding that all 35 Rafale aircraft acquired by India be paraded before the media to verify their operational status.

Opposition slams Operation Mahadev, calls it diversion

Adding fuel to the fire, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav raised serious questions about the so-called “Operation Mahadev”, in which Home Minister Amit Shah claimed that three perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack were killed. Yadav questioned the timing of the encounter, saying, “Why did this encounter happen just yesterday? Why was the vehicle carrying RDX in the Pulwama attack never found?”

The MP called the Pahalgam incident the result of intelligence failure. “What action has been taken so far on the serious intelligence failure?” he questioned.

Yadav also questioned the government’s silence on China’s alleged incursion into Indian territory: “How much of our land has China taken? Why has it never been disclosed to the nation?”

He even mocked the ceremonial rituals performed on Rafale jets when they were inducted into the Indian Air Force, asking how many of them had since been damaged.

Priyanka Gandhi criticizes Modi’s leadership
Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi joined the opposition’s chorus, accusing Modi of avoiding accountability while being eager to claim credit for any positive development.

“Be it Operation Sindoor or an Olympic gold medal — Modi ji always pats himself on the back. He takes credit, but never responsibility,” she said during her address in the Lok Sabha.

The Indian PM, who was not present in the session, faced criticism for avoiding parliamentary accountability amidst growing questions over national security failures and alleged cover-ups.

India has reportedly launched a new clandestine military campaign, ‘Operation Mahadev’, aimed at masking the failure of its earlier plan, Operation Sindoor, by orchestrating a wave of fake encounters involving illegally detained Pakistanis and Kashmiris, security sources revealed.

According to details, the sinister plan allegedly involves declaring prisoners already in Indian custody as cross-border infiltrators or terrorists from Pakistan before executing them in staged operations. The ultimate aim, observers say, is to suppress the freedom movement in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and regain political credibility domestically for the Modi-led BJP government.
