LONDON: The Gaza war is causing young British Muslims to become disillusioned and isolated, the head of the Muslim World League has said, urging the UK government to consider integration as a national security issue.

Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa told The Times that division between Muslims and non-Muslims has been “exacerbated” by the conflict, allowing extremism to develop on both sides.

“A political situation outside (the UK) should not interfere with integration inside,” he added, calling on both sides to focus on domestic issues of mutual concern.

Al-Issa previously warned that rising Islamophobia was a threat to peaceful coexistence in the UK.

The MWL is one of the most powerful Islamic organizations in the world, and in 2023 Al-Issa became the first prominent Muslim figure to be received by the UK’s King Charles at Buckingham Palace.

Al-Issa’s warning came amid new polling by the MWL that found stark differences in values and perceptions between Muslims and non-Muslims, especially among young people.

Younger Muslims in Britain are more isolated from mainstream politics and less likely to view integration as an important duty, the poll found, based on a sample size of more than 5,000 people including more than 450 Muslims.

Almost two-thirds of Muslims described their relationship with non-Muslims as “positive” or “mostly positive,” while less than a quarter of non-Muslims felt the same.

Only 5 percent of non-Muslims felt that religion should play a role in politics, compared to almost 20 percent of Muslims.

More than 70 percent of Muslims labeled increased diversity as “positive,” compared to about 40 percent of non-Muslims.

Less than 10 percent of Muslims aged 18-24 viewed the UK as a tolerant country, and said British concerns over Islam were illegitimate or based on sensationalist media reporting.

About half of the UK’s Muslim population is younger than 25, Al-Issa said, highlighting the importance of the poll and the effect of British foreign policy in the Middle East.

The MWL “believes that this distance creates divides and extremists — both Muslim and non-Muslim — flourish where there are divides,” he added, warning that both sides are “living separate lives.”

Al-Issa said: “Without integration there is isolation, fear of the other. That can cause a vacuum that the evildoers will try to fill.”

The MWL announced a £100,000 ($128,000) donation to develop a social fund that will build bridges between Muslims and non-Muslims in Britain.

Integration must be at the heart of UK government policy or national security will be threatened, Al-Issa said.

“The problem of integration has been exacerbated by the conflict in Gaza and the politics in the Middle East,” he added.

The MWL “calls on Muslims and non-Muslims in the UK instead to focus on domestic issues where there are shared concerns, such as policy areas that unite rather than divide.”

Never heard of this Sheikh before but I respectfully disagree. Many young Muslims are becoming more politically active and cultivating friendships and affiliations with groups they would not have encountered before - all on the basis of opposition to the Gaza genocide.

Hope so bro...even I dont want any division in UK as we leave peacefully here. Just dont want another post 9/11 kinda situation for normal muslims.

Actually, it’s support for Israel that’s been in freefall, especially in the US. It’s dropped so hard that the government is now scrambling to censor social media just to control the narrative.

And it’s not just in the US, the global tide is shifting. People are done being gaslit.

I don't specifically know about UK but in the West in general the issue of Palestine (and atrocities against them) are finding traction and general population is sympathetic towards Palestinians and growing increasingly hostile towards Israel and its genocide.

The Media & Governments backed and financed by Zionists are painting a different picture and increasingly passing hostile law particularly in US but the people are clearly and increasingly favoring Palestine.

I think this Shaykh is mistaken and I also disagree with his opinion on isolation and division between Muslims and non-Muslims, I think they are closer due to the Palestinian issue.

Even if the UK gov was to take this very seriously, they wouldn’t do anything about it due to their trade ties with Saudi Arabia. However, more recently, I feel KSA have focussed their ideological investment resources away from UK and more towards selling their country as an alternative to Dubai. Their friendliness with the west and their indirect support for various genocides against Muslim isn’t so opaque anymore either. Anyhow, I feel the opposing view to the Sheikh is more true and the average aware individual is more inclined to support Gaza, we can’t go by social media and as you know, it doesn’t reflect national opinion in general, since Musk has taken over they’ve been propagating the far right sentiment and attempting to incite more divide that way, if anything, that’s more of a threat and the riots not too long ago were driven by misinformation online.

Very obvious this.

When any anti-hamas statement is labelled as being anti-muslim; and the commentor as non-muslim.

Good thing is the pro-hamas contingent is held under lock and key. With a single threat of deportation. From judeo-christian lands.

British people don't care as much about Israel as they did USA.

If there was such a thing as judeo-christian lands we would have no holocaust nor would the creation of Israel have been necessary.

You have a point brother. I think if some of these guys care so much about Gaza, rather than showing solidarity from UK which sometimes turn violent, they would be better actually going to Gaza and fight alongside Hamas. However, looks like they want to shed crocodile tears from comforts of Bradford.

Brother i am also starting to feel our Jewish brothers are probably overdoing it now.

The protesters that are showing solidarity are doing it to lobby their government. They are protesting Israel per se they are protesting the lack of action from their government.

I would suggest you edit your posts as you are inciting peaceful people who are exercising their democratic right to protest to join a proscribed terrorist organization.

I can bet most of them don't consider Hamas as terrorist organization. If that was the case they would be lobbying their govt to appeal Hamas to release the hostages and get over with this war. We were not born yesterday bro.

British government isnt able to lobby Hamas. It has no direct ties or links. Israel is an important ally and we have several links including the supply of arms with them. We can lobby them especially given that we are signatories to the international criminal courts that has also condemned Israelis actions and the fact that the British government is against the expansion of illegal settlements.

The designation of a "Terrorist organization" is political. Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Sirajuddin Haqqani, Gerry Adams, Ahmed al-Sharaa were all Terrorists or belonged to Terrorist organizations or imprisoned and then times changed and same people were negotiated with or became legitimate leaders

The designation of "Terrorist Organization" is done under the law and similarly to remove them or attempts to remove them is also legal.

The following is a good book for people to read on the topic to understand what I am saying

It is the duty of the Brit Muslims to get integrated with the rest of the population. Not the other way around.

Once again, Muslims leading the way in showing tolerance for non-Muslims, while on the other side it is the non-Muslims displaying suspicion and hostility. Truly only Islam appears to be all-inclusive.

Disagreement with the state's domestic and/or foreign policy has nothing to do with "Integration". This is a dog whistle xenophobic argument. All British citizens (Muslims or otherwise) have a fundamental right to disagree with the policies of the Government (Brexit, Palestine, Climate change etc) and to demonstrate their disapproval of the policies within the confines of the law. That is how "civilized societies" the world over work and function, dissent is allowed within the confines of the law.

Since your our global foreign policy Geek.

What do you think of this.

Exactly.

Either way, I don't think we have to prove our integrations to any Hindutva clown. :inti

Good post but not so long you liked one of his posts where he described Muslims as barbaric. Guys like you are also part of the problem.

Hands down, one of the most genius replies ever. No further questions.

I have never seen you replied anyone with a logical response...honestly. Not once. In the tariff thread also, brother @deltexas was asking valid questions like why did China go to WTO? Your response was to get Chinese takeway. Maybe you think you look cool with these kind of silly responses but in reality they sound fool. Here's Rajdeep hoping you will mend your way and post more maturely going forward. Any help needed, I am there.

I might be part of the problem but I highly doubt I liked any of Rajdeep's posts. I think you might have some crossed wires there.

You did like that post of mine bro which even took me to surprise. Not bcoz my posts are unlikable as generally there is a saying here that when Rajdeep speaks one listens but considering you and I never seen eye to eye so that like was surprising. Please clarify your stance to brother @topspin ....nation wants to know.

No problem, provide the quote and I can clarify. I am not an unfair person, I will like a post if I see truth regardless of who speaks it, but I would need to see the context.

Why did China go to the WTO?, how about you answer that.

I didn’t even bother replying because that question was so desperate it practically gasped for air. A flailing attempt to sound clever while missing the most basic logic: Why wouldn’t China go to the WTO, especially during a trade war? That’s literally what it's there for.

Now sit with that. You don't answer dumb questions, you expose them.

As for your “help,” if it was genuine, it sure came wrapped in wounded ego and a heroic defense of someone whose only argument for Trump’s failed tariff policy is that he’s secretly playing 4D chess. Spoiler, He’s not. And neither are you.

@Cpt. Rishwat how is the situation of muslims in your area? Are they getting isolated yet like this Seikh sahab is saying?

I don't live in a Muslim area, I have said this on quite a few occasions in the past. I live in a high income area and people mostly keep themselves to themselves, it is very quiet, although the residents might well vote for Nigel Farage for all I know.

I have considered moving to a Muslim area but probably not in England if I do ever make the move.

This violent chasm of muslim vs. others is organic.

Specially when others include jews and christians.

zorastians/aethiests/buddhists/hindus etc do not get a mention as "wrongdoer" enemy of islam. In quran. Just these two.

"O believers! Take neither Jews nor Christians as guardians—they are guardians of each other. Whoever does so will be counted as one of them. Surely Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people."

I was liking the part about Hindus not eating beef and treating it like their mother. I do respect vegetarians or Hindus who hold a belief on principle generally, it shows they have a moral compass regardless whether it is the same as mine.

I missed the last line "Hindus are not as barbaric as you guys" because quite honestly, I am so used to reading these type of comments I just gloss over them. Let me reaffirm, I do not condone or agree with such sentiments. I was liking the earlier part which I already explained.

Their cheap insults are comical.

Anyway, I don't think Muslims need certifications of approvals from these Hindutva bhakts. Engaging with them is like consuming French fries; it has very little benefit.

to be honest its not a big deal. Veg will find non-veg people as barbaric. Non-Hindus find Hindus worshiping rats and stuff as crazy. At some point you need to accept the other side will find what you do to be comical or wrong, if they didn't then they would believe what you did.

You have a point.

Anyway, beef is eaten by people all over the world. Nothing barbaric about it. Americans eat it. Mexicans eat it. Chinese eat it. Japanese eat it. Muslims eat it. Europeans eat it.

Exactly. This is why the remark calling us barbarians went straight over my head. You get so used to it that you no longer find it offensive after a point, and from their point of view, maybe that is how we appear. From our point of view, what is the point of not eating meat as an act of compassion, then going on rampages through neighbourhoods like Gujarat or Myanmar torching homes and people in an act of rage and destruction?
