I can sense MQM siding with him. They don't have anyplace else to go and Mush still has some support in Karachi.

He has every right to come back and contest elections. But I won't be surprised if he gets less than 10% of the vote and has his bail forfeited :yk

^^ He can win at least his seat but I agree that it's too late and he won't win the elections. As far as MQM, I am not sure about him but Nabil Gabol of PPP has announced today that he is joining MQM.

Why is he coming now when it is time for election ?

If he is concerned about Pakistan and Pakistanis, he should have been in country much before. This shows he is just trying to get into the power circle (through some alliance) only.

Of course. So-called 'patriots' like him and Tahir ul Qadri only show up when they sense they can also get a piece of the cake.
The Army is backing him. He wouldn't have dared come back unless he had their guarantee.

@Runner Up. Gabol has joined MQM? That's interesting.......

IIRC, Pakistan had an arrest warrant against him and they had asked interpol for his arrest. Isn't it?

What will happen if he comes back ? How is he going to contest election when there is an arrest warrant in his name?

Imran Khan said today on Dawn News that he is not coming so don't want to talk about him :(

What a time for a sold out Anti-Army/Security agencies and pro Taliban agent to hold such a program..reminds me of his program that he did against Shiekh Rasheed a day before elections..this guy is a cheap.

Pervez Musharraf gets bail ahead of planned return

Pakistan's former military ruler Pervez Musharraf was Friday granted protective bail in a series of legal cases, paving the way for his return from exile without the risk of immediate arrest.

Musharraf, who seized power in 1999 and left the country after stepping down in 2008,

Interpol rejects Pak's request to arrest Musharraf
Musharraf assets to remain frozen, says Pak court has vowed to
return Sunday to contest the May 11 general election, but is wanted in Pakistan for conspiracy to murder and illegally arresting judges.

To preclude the prospect of his arrest on arrival, his daughter, Ayla Raza, petitioned a court in Karachi on his behalf for protective bail in three cases, including the 2007 assassination of former prime minister Benazir Bhutto.

"He has been given pre-arrival, protective bail in all three cases," Musharraf's lawyer Ahmad Raza Kasuri said.

Judge Sajjad Ali Shah posted bail at 300,000 rupees ($3,000) over the 2007 sacking of judges, the 2006 death of Akbar Bugti, a Baluch rebel leader in the southwest, and the murder of Bhutto in a gun and suicide attack.

The decision prevents Musharraf being arrested for 10 days in connection with the judges' arrests and for 14 days in connection with the other two cases. Technically, Pakistan's Supreme Court could intervene to reverse the order.

"He has full protection now and he cannot be arrested in these cases upon his arrival in Pakistan," Salman Safdar, another Musharraf lawyer, said.

At the Sindh high court, a handful of activists from Musharraf's All Pakistan Muslim League (APML) party flashed victory signs and chanted "Long Live Musharraf" and "Musharraf will come back, he will bring prosperity".

The outgoing government led by Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) always insisted that Musharraf would be
arrested should be return to the country and last year he delayed a planned homecoming after being threatened with detention.

A parliamentary committee could later Friday agree on a candidate to head up an interim government which will rule during the election campaign.

Bhutto's son, Bilawal Bhutto, who is co-chairman of the PPP with his father, President Asif Ali Zardari, has accused Musharraf of murdering his mother.

She was killed after an election rally in Rawalpindi, the headquarters of the army, on December 27, 2007.

In 2010, a UN report said the murder could have been prevented and accused Musharraf's government of failing to provide Bhutto with adequate protection.

Musharraf's government blamed the assassination on Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud, who was killed in a US drone attack in August 2009.

Musharraf, who has divided his time between London and Dubai since stepping down in August 2008, has lost much of his power base in Pakistan.

Okay. This time he is coming. Will be arriving at Karachi Airport in one and half hour time.

I wish he wouldn't come, he is dead man walking.
I don't see him alive for very long in Pak without presidential security which he won't get.
Saw a pic of him on face book leaving his house with his wife holding the Quran over his head , sad.

Another Qadri in making to take an attempt at breaking the PTI's momentum.

I don't think anybody would want to be anywhere near him even if they support him.

ARY News giving him full coverage. Looks like they are in his favour. He is at Airport and finally we can see a few thousand supporters.

A person who ruled over Pakistan for ten years and claimed to have won the hearts of the people, some support he is getting :))

I predict he'll be on the plane back by the time elections results start pouring in.

if pakistan is on this path today its because of this idiot, bankrupt economy, war on terror, load shedding, corrupt lota league/shortcut aziz, lal masjid, drone attacks , bomb blasts were all musharrafs legacy, nro and ppp goverment was his involvement and 5yrs of ppp they just carried on from where musharraf left to appease the foreign masters

Former Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf has arrived back in Pakistan, ending four years of self-imposed exile and defying death threats.

A protection detail of heavily armed commandos met him after his plane from Dubai touched down in Karachi airport. A mass rally in the city was cancelled.

General Musharraf plans to lead his party in the May general election.

Meanwhile, 17 soldiers were killed by a suicide bomber in the north-west of Pakistan overnight.

They were attacked at a security checkpoint in the tribal region of North Waziristan, close to the Afghan border and a known stronghold of the Taliban and al-Qaeda-linked militants.

A recent Taliban video threatened Gen Musharraf with snipers and suicide bombers.

He faces a string of charges including conspiracy to murder, but on Friday the Pakistani authorities granted him protective bail in several outstanding cases, freeing him from immediate arrest once he sets foot in Pakistan.

One of the charges is that he failed to provide adequate security for opposition leader Benazir Bhutto after she returned from exile in 2007.

Two deadly explosions, in which nearly 140 people died, greeted her arrival in Karachi on 19 October. She was killed that December at a rally in Rawalpindi.

A few hundred supporters have gathered near the airport, the BBC's Orla Guerin reports.

Earlier, the former leader, 69, tweeted a photo of himself aboard the plane, writing: "Settled in my seat on the plane to begin my journey home. Pakistan First!"

In Dubai, the smiling general told our correspondent the event felt like a wedding party.

A group of about 200 supporters and journalists saw off the former military ruler - including party members from the UK, Canada, Switzerland and the US.

Some of the general's supporters wore white armbands saying they were ready to give their lives for him.

The planned mass rally in Karachi was called off because the authorities had withdrawn permission.

The former military leader has lived in London and Dubai since stepping down five years ago. He left Pakistan in 2009.

He has vowed to return several times in the past, but those previous attempts have been abandoned.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack in North Waziristan, in which 34 soldiers were reportedly also injured.

A car packed with explosives blew up next to a pair of fuel tankers at the check post, intelligence officials told AP news agency on condition of anonymity.

The blast set the tankers on fire and nearby military living areas were destroyed, they said.

Janan Dawar, an eyewitness who lives about 14km (nine miles) away from the checkpoint, said he had heard a huge explosion and had seen flames leap into the air.

Three civilians were also injured.

It appears that most of the soldiers targeted had been working in road construction, part of the army's strategy for winning hearts and minds locally.

During his time in 'exile' he used to give lots of interviews where he stated 'America should stay in Afghanistan longer as it's in the best interests of the region'.

Is this still his view? If it is then the timing of his return is interesting given the yanks are currently negotiating to keep up to 20k troops in the region post 2014.

I hate him but hope he is safe. Politicians of ours can get really dirty.

america itself cant afford the war let alone seeking musharraf support for their agenda, also obama has made promise of that and the soldiers have already started vacating which will formalling end in 2014

Sorry but it's not a complete withdrawal.

The war may formally end in 2014 but thousands of troops, CIA staff and the drones will stay back.

Musharraf has a lot of support believe me or not especially in middle class.

But I think it's too late because to win the election he needs good candidates from all over the Pakistan that is impossible. He may however try to win the next election not this one.

Come on Man. Even BB used to wear the Jacket. I won't be surprised if Imran Khan does too.

Thats unfair Insaftak. If he wears a bullet proof jacket it doesnt make him a coward. I believe the Prophet (S) and his companions (RA) also wore body armour, did that mean the feared the enemy more than Allah?

^^

He is wearing this in airport not out on a campaign trail...

In my defense, All is fair in love, War, and Politics :P

After his retirement he was bound to stay away from the politics for two years. He did make his party but he made mistake and stayed away from Pakistan. As far as allowing the crooks coming back, even he apologized that NRO was his big mistake.

NRO is not just a mistake... He bent over for West/Saudis and he is doing that again. read more on the express story about the latest deal.

No to NRO 2 forced on us by foreign countries.

^^

Imran Khan's supporters believe in truth and nothing but truth. If I posted that for a political reason then I should just acknowledge that :)

what a decietful crook, i hope he gets tried and hanged, otherwise some mentally unstable person will try and take the law into their own hands

No to NRO 2 forced on us by foreign countries.

why did you make a guy vice chairman when he was clearly part of NRO deal?

there is nothing wrong in wearing a bullet proof jacket. Musharraf is just a clown for other reasons

APML representative says that there were 25,000 people came to greet musharraf outside airport. lol

LOL!!

The latest I am hearing is Commando sahab went to see Jamima Khan to ask her for help and asking Imran Khan to have a meeting with him.

:))

I don't believe you because most of the news you tell are based on "Rumors"

PIR JO GOTH: Shahzain Bugti, a grandson of slain Bugti chieftain Nawab Akbar Bugti, on Sunday announced head money for former military ruler Pervez Musharraf.

..............“We will give Rs1 million in cash and a bungalow worth Rs100 million to anybody who kills Musharraf. And we’ll also provide him full security,” Shahzain Bugti said ........

That "Rs 100 million bungalow with full security" isn't the Central Jail in Rawalpindi is it? Imagine the look on the face of the guy who turns up to claim his prize... :))

Shoe thrown at Musharraf amid bail extension

A lawyer on Friday threw a shoe at ex-dictator Pervez Musharraf as he walked to a court room to extend his bail on charges of conspiracy to murder and sacking judges.

A group of around 20 lawyers protested against the former military ruler at the Sindh High Court, shouting "he's a dictator and he should be hanged" before one of them hurled the shoe, witnesses told AFP.

In the Muslim world, it is considered a particularly insulting gesture. The shoe did not hit Musharraf, TV footage showed. Witnesses said the perpetrator was taken away by plain-clothed security officials.

Musharraf, who returned home from four years in self-imposed exile on Sunday, was in court to extend bail granted to him last week over the 2007 killing of Benazir Bhutto, the 2007 sacking of judges and the 2006 of a Baluch rebel leader.

Court officials said Musharraf's bail in the judges' case had been extended for another two weeks. A member of his All Pakistan Muslim League party said he had been granted a 21-day extension in the two other cases.

The ex-dictator remains hugely controversial nearly five years after he resigned in the face of impeachment proceedings and is not thought to be a serious contender at elections in May, which he has vowed to contest.

In office, he was a key US ally in the "war on terror", an alliance that became deeply controversial in Pakistan, and escaped at least three Al-Qaeda assassination attempts.
Bhutto's son, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who is chairman of the outgoing Pakistan People's Party, has accused Musharraf of her murder.

In 2010 a UN report said Bhutto's death could have been prevented and accused Musharraf's government of failing to give her adequate protection.

Musharaf should go back.

Bechara waisay he beizaat ho ga roz roz... Just too many enemies.

I feel sorry for the man. At least BB and NS had huge support which made their comeback seem meaningful.
Who's there for Musharraf? Everyone is after his throat these days.

Delusions of grandeur...man is a certified narcissist and an arrogant buffoon of the highest order, one who also happens to be a big time coward....

His arrogance coupled with unmatched cowardice got the country in the mess that is in now...

Should be held responsible for the fiascos of lal masjid (which should have been negotiated months before it reached the tipping point) and Bugti's murder (which resulted in an uprising).

Only once Pakistan punishes its generals will coup become part of history (ex: turkey).

Fauj knows how to take care of their own.

They will never let an ex Army Chief to be humiliated/killed.

I know for a fact that a lot of celebrities, upper middle class people, NRI's miss Musharraf's rule but he has no real connection with the lower middle class, rural population, masses and therefore he can't reach IK's level of popularity and support.

But i would love for him to come back and create a 4th option. The more political options a country has, the better it is.

ISLAMABAD: A special court seized with a high treason case against retired Gen Pervez Musharraf directed the interior ministry on Thursday to take steps for the arrest and extradition of the former military dictator to Pakistan.

The court comprising Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Yahya Afridi, Lahore High Court Chief Justice Yawar Ali and Justice Tahira Safdar, senior puisne judge of the Balochistan High Court, also directed the joint secretary of the interior ministry to attach Mr Musharraf’s properties in the United Kingdom and the United Arab Emirates.

The interior ministry informed the court that it was difficult to attach even local properties of the accused as four out of seven properties were owned by the former army chief. And even these properties are disputed since spouse of the former dictator Sehba Musharraf, his daughter Ayla Raza and another relative Hidayatullah Kheshgi have claimed co-ownership of them.

During the hearing, Justice Afridi asked head of prosecution Mohammad Akram Sheikh to suggest the way forward since Mr Musharraf is abroad and the court has declared him a proclaimed offender.

Chief prosecutor informs special court there are precedents in which high-profile personalities were tried in absentia

The chief prosecutor said that since the prosecution had laid the entire evidence in September 2014 and Mr Musharraf was required to either appear in person to testify under Section 342 of the Criminal Procedure Code or submit a written statement so that the court could conclude the trial pending for about four and a half years.

Justice Afridi remarked that the special court had already held that the trial could only be resumed after the arrest or surrender of Mr Musharraf.

Advocate Sheikh pointed out that there were precedents that some high-profile personalities were tried in absentia.

The chief prosecutor said that the federal government did not want to grab the properties of Mr Musharraf, but the complaint was filed since he held the Constitution in abeyance on Nov 3, 2007, when he imposed an emergency.

He said if the court issued the direction the government would initiate the process to extradite the former army chief from the UAE. He pointed out that several people, including the former chairman of the Evacuee Trust Properties Board and former president of the Bank of Punjab Hamesh Khan, have been brought to Pakistan under the orders of the court.

Advocate Sheikh suggested that the court might also direct the interior ministry to block the computerised national identity card and passport of Mr Musharraf. He said that in the past the government in some cases had withdrawn the decoration (military medals) from the convicted or accused officers.

When Justice Afridi asked Advocate Sheikh to explain why Mr Musharraf had gone abroad and why the federal government failed to bring him back, he replied that after filing of the complaint in December 2013, the special court granted the accused bail, hence his custody was being regulated by the special court which observed at least three different times that there was no need either to take him into custody or place his name on the Exit Control List (ECL).

He said Mr Musharraf’s name was on the ECL, but the special court allowed him to travel abroad and the Sindh High Court (SHC) also struck down the interior ministry’s memorandum which placed him the ECL. The Supreme Court, however, left it to the special court or the federal government to regulate the custody of the accused since the trial court had already summoned him for recording of statement on March 31, 2016. It effectively fell within the domain of the special court to take action rather than leave it for any other entity like the federal government.

Advocate Sheikh said the prosecution repeatedly informed the special court which had allowed Mr Musharraf to travel abroad for medical reasons, while the accused was in the Armed Forces Institute of Cardiology (AFIC) from January to March 2013 he was not given even a single tablet of Disprin.

Advocate Sheikh said that a former prime minister was not allowed to travel to the UK to inquire after the health of his spouse who was suffering from cancer.

The head of the prosecution argued that instead of conducting trial after short intervals, the special court gave months-long adjournments contrary to the Special Courts Act.

Retired Major Akhtar Shah, counsel for Mr Musharraf, informed the court that his client was planning to come back to the country to face the pending trial before the special court and other courts. He said Mr Musharraf was ready to return if the special court gave an assurance that he would be given security by the defence ministry and would be allowed to travel abroad.

Justice Afridi reminded the counsel that the head of prosecution had already stated that upon his arrival Mr Musharraf would be given the protocol of a former president.

The learned judge, however, said that the court would address concerns of Mr Musharraf once he surrendered himself.

The court adjourned the hearing till March 21.
