LAHORE: After choosing to leave the constituencies where Ch Nisar is contesting from unguarded primary list, the PML-N decided to field candidates against him in the supplementary list of its ticket-holders from both NA-59 and NA-63.

The supplementary list too, however, failed in declaring the candidates contesting on the provincial assembly seats from Lahore, majority of them are still officially undecided while candidates were campaigning in confusion and uncertainty.

Experts believe that it could be a smart move to double the campaign intensity; others say it can backfire, once the finalists are announced and rejected ones decide to play the spoilers’ role.

MULTAN: Veteran politician Javed Hashmi says he will not contest elections after the PML-N did not award him ticket.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Hashmi said he had already informed the party leadership that he would not contest the election; however, he submitted nomination papers for NA-155 and NA-158 on the suggestion of the party leadership.

“Nawaz Sharif has promised not to award party ticket to anyone against me. However, I informed him that I will accept the party decision regarding the award of ticket. My priority was to rejoin the PML-N rather than getting the party ticket,” he said.

Hashmi said he had also informed Governor Rafique Rajwana who wanted to field his son for NA-155 besides Shaikh Tariq Rasheed, a former PML-N MNA, that he would not come in their way if the party awarded them tickets.

Says he will continue to work for parliamentary supremacy; accuses Khan of selling tickets

“Similarly I also assured Javed Ali Shah, the last time PML-N candidate for NA-158 (formerly NA-148) , that I will not ask for party ticket.”The veteran politician said that he had won 11 NA seats in the past but he never applied for the party ticket.

Hashmi said that it was his wish to contest election against former PM Yousaf Raza Gilani from NA-158 and Shah Mehmood Qureshi from NA-156. :However, I accept the party decision as I want to work as a worker for the PML-N. I will participate in the election campaign of PML-N candidates not only in Multan but wherever I am needed,” he said. “My mission was the parliament should complete its tenure and I have succeeded in my mission. I will be on the forefront in future as well for the sake of democracy and supremacy of parliament,” he said.

Hashmi who joined the PTI before 2013 election and left it during the Islamabad sit-in, accused its chairman Imran Khan of selling tickets.

“Khan had awarded party ticket to a Patwari for Rs400 million in Rawalpindi for a provincial assembly seat against whom the NAB was investigating different cases. When I told Khan that he (Patwari) will not be able to win the election rather he will bring a bad name to the party, Khan said he needed money to contest election.”

He said people involved in corruption are now with Imran Khan.

Answering a question, Hashmi said that he did not think that Shahbaz Sharif had opposed party ticket to him.

He had sympathy for Zaeem Qadri, saying injustice had been done in his case but he should have shown patience.

Regarding his recent interaction with the chief Justice of Pakistan in the Asghar Khan case, Hashmi said when the CJP asked him to respect institutions, “I told him that I know judiciary very well as the judges did not take action against the persons responsible for the division of the country, always supported the dictators, hanged Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and became helping hands in victimising politicians,” he said.Hashmi said he was not against accountability but it should be done across the board and not to get political gains.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) formally kicked off its campaign for the 2018 general elections with its chief Shehbaz Sharif promising to cure the city of lights of all ills.

Addressing members of the business community at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) on Monday, Shehbaz hailed Karachi as the city that generated the highest revenue.

“Karachi is the biggest port city – it is the financial hub, the nerve of exports; yet [previous] political and military governments have failed to give the city its due status.” He added that were the PML-N to be elected to power again, they would transform Karachi into the most developed city in South Asia.

“When we came to power [in 2013], Karachi was facing challenges of terrorism, extortion and targeted killings,” he said. “We have resolved at least 90% of the problem. There’s no denying that there are street crimes, but those can only be controlled by creating jobs.”

The former Punjab chief minister pledged to resolve the city’s water crisis within the next three years. He gave an even shorter timeline for the resolution of sanitation issues, promising to fix it within six months, besides developing a reliable public transport system and infrastructure for the citizens.

Amid the promises and political rhetoric, one participant took a jibe at the PML-N supremo regarding his party’s earlier slogan of ‘breaking the begging bowl’ and not going to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in the run-up to the last general elections. Sharif reasoned that the begging bowl couldn’t be broken when there were several loss-making enterprises in the public sector that drained billions of rupees each year. The business community is wary of the government knocking on the IMF’s door, which besides giving extensions to loans also enforces several conditions including increased taxation.

Another businessman criticised the PML-N for investing in roads instead of building small dams, when the biggest impending crisis was water scarcity.
Shehbaz Sharif to start election campaign from Karachi

Shehbaz said the immediate solution for water shortage was Bhasha Dam. “The government invested Rs1 billion in the project,” he claimed. The former chief minister added that his party would not compromise on “national unity” over Kalabagh Dam.

Chiding Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its “politics of sit-ins”, Shehbaz said the Imran Khan-led party had derailed democratic dispensation through its demonstrations. “Our agenda is to develop the country while PTI seeks to destablise the economy to appease hidden forces.”

The PML-N chief, who is contesting from Karachi’s NA-249 seat, said he wanted to contest the polls based on performance and would develop the whole province just like Punjab. “Water is the next biggest challenge,” he said. “I do not want to make tall claims but we will develop the city’s infrastructure and resolve civic issues.”

Rally in Baldia Town

The PML-N chief, in his maiden address to a rally in the NA-249 constituency, announced to build a 500-bed hospital and a technical training centre in the area as well as bring the metro bus and orange train to Karachi.

Addressing a packed Football Ground in Baldia Town, the PML-N chief said his party had fulfilled all the promises made before the last general elections. “We have resolved the energy crises and brought the law and order situation under control,” he said, adding that they would not rest until they made Pakistan a welfare state as envisioned by the founder of the nation.

He referred to his statement in 1997 when he had announced to turn Lahore into Paris and said, “I ask the people of Sindh to visit Lahore. I have lived up to my promise. Now it is time to make Karachi the most beautiful city of South Asia – no less than Paris,” he pledged.

ISLAMABAD: An Election Tribunal on Wednesday sustained an appeal against former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi’s candidature in NA-57 (Murree), disqualifying him from contesting elections from the constituency.

The appellant tribunal chaired by Justice Ibadul Rehman Lodhi of the Lahore High Court (LHC) also rejected nomination papers of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Fawad Chaudhry for NA-67 (Jhelum-II), Amir Kiyani and Sardar Ghulam Abbas for NA-64 (Chakwal-I).

The decision came on appeals filed by the candidates’ opponents, challenging returning officers’ (ROs) decision to accept the nomination papers.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) heavyweights including former premier Abbasi, former foreign minister Khawaja Asif and Sardar Mehtab Abbasi were cleared for the upcoming general elections on Tuesday.

An election tribunal allowed Abbasi and senior leader Sardar Mehtab Abbasi to contest from the constituency of NA-53 Islamabad.

On Monday, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kiyani of Islamabad’s appellate tribunal adjourned the hearing pertaining to the RO’s rejection of Abbasi and Sardar Mehtab’s candidature in NA-53.

During the hearing, Justice Kiyani remarked that a huge number of nomination papers were rejected due to incomplete bank accounts details and inquired whether the candidates were unable to comprehend the questions.

Maryam Nawaz moved to safer constituency

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) on Wednesday decided to shift Maryam Nawaz from an area that till 2013 was considered to be a stronghold of the party to a politically safer constituency of the provincial capital.

Maryam Nawaz had initially applied from both NA-125 (previously known as NA-120) and NA-127 (previously NA-123) to contest the elections.

The initial understanding in the party was that she would contest the elections from NA-125 where she had run successful election campaigns for her father — Nawaz Sharif — in 2103 and for her mother in 2017.

Given her familiarity with the constituency, the party awarded her the party ticket for NA-125. Surprisingly, a day before the party announced the tickets from Punjab in which she was a candidate from NA-125, her own team announced that she was running elections from NA-127 which after the announcement of tickets created a bit of a confusion.

Four days into the announcement of the tickets, the party allotted her the ticket from NA-127 instead of NA-125, ending the confusion.

The ticket of NA-127 was initially allotted to the party’s Lahore chapter president Malik Pervaiz, who had won twice from the constituency and his latest victory in 2013 was with a sizable margin.

Given the huge lead that the party bagged in 2013, the constituency was considered to be a easy win.

Malik, however, has not been given the party ticket for NA-127 as reported in the media.

According to sources, Malik has been pushing for either NA-123 (previously NA-118) or NA-133 (previously NA-127).

The sources revealed that Malik has differences with the local leadership of the party in NA-125 so he himself would not prefer the constituency.

It was further disclosed that the party would consider moving either Malik Riaz or Waheed Alam Khan from their constituencies to NA-125.

Both the candidates, according to the sources, were aspirant of party ticket from NA-125 as well as other constituencies, initially.

Maryam likely to contest polls from NA-125

It is pertinent to mention here that Malik Riaz had faced quite a resistance from within party circles against the allotment of ticket from NA-123 from where he twice won.

According to the sources, the decision was taken in view of Maryam’s inability to run an active election campaign due to her mother’s deteriorating health.

They revealed that the party had realised that NA-125 was a tough constituency for the PML-N and required active campaigning.

The party feared that Maryam might end up losing the seat which would cause quite an embarrassment for it.

He said the PML-N lead from roughly 40,000 votes in 2013 came to merely 14,000 votes which was worrisome.

According to party spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb, the decision was taken by the parliamentary board on Wednesday.

She said it was the party’s prerogative to make any amendments till June 29 in the list of aspirants, adding the party would announce its final list of candidate on Thursday.

The party has yet to make a decision on 16 National Assembly seats and several dozen provincial assembly seats from Punjab.

Firebrand PML-N leader Daniyal Aziz held in contempt of court: reports

The Supreme Court of Pakistan on Thursday held outspoken PML-N leader and former privatisation minister Daniyal Aziz in contempt of court, and sentenced him till the rising of the court, which renders him disqualified to contest elections for a period of five years under article 63 (1) (g) of the Constitution, DawnNewsTV reported.

Aziz's counsel announced that this client would file a review petition against the Supreme Court's ruling.

On February 7, the apex court had issued to Aziz a notice for contempt of court for an "anti-judiciary" speech made by him.

On March 13, the SC had indicted Aziz in the contempt case. The proceedings were held under the Contempt of the Court Ordinance 2003, read with Article 204 of the Constitution, against Aziz for making derogatory and contemptuous speeches and statements against the apex court which were also telecast by different television channels.

The SC bench had observed that Aziz was "committed to scandalising the court". Aziz had, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The charges against him were that Aziz, a federal minister at the time, while addressing a press conference on Sept 8 last year, had accused Justice Ijazul Ahsan of summoning NAB authorities in Lahore for preparing corruption references against ousted prime minister Nawaz Sharif, his family members and Ishaq Dar.

Similarly, on Dec 21 last year, Aziz had hurled accusations against Justice Ahsan by demanding that he tells the nation who confided in him about the Capital FZE.

LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) allowed on Friday former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi to contest from his home constituency of NA-57, Murree.

A two-member bench headed by Justice Mazahir Ali Naqvi accepted Abbasi's appeal against the appellate tribunal's decision of rejecting his nomination papers and disqualifying him for life.

The divisional bench of the LHC dismissed the tribunal's order against Abbasi.

On Thursday, the appellate tribunal had found Abbasi guilty of "concealing facts and withholding information from voters" in his nomination forms submitted for the constituency.

The written verdict said that Abbasi does not meet the requirements under Article 62(1)(f) of the Constitution of Pakistan.

The former premier, in a statement to the media, had vowed to challenge the verdict.

Soon after the verdict, Abbasi had said that the appellate court did not have the authority to disqualify a person for life. Noting that he was disqualified on the issue of the market value of his assets, the former premier explained that his father had purchased their house in 1974 and he had mentioned the purchase price in his nomination forms.

Later in the evening, Abbasi appeared on Geo News' programme 'Aaj Shahzeb Khanzada Kay Sath'. He stressed that he would use his right to appeal and contest the election from the same constituency. He had questioned the law under which the verdict had been announced.

"Election commission and Supreme Judicial Council should take notice of making the election controversial," Abbasi had remarked.

PML-N's troubles continue as lawmakers from Rajanpur, Muzaffargarh return party tickets

In another setback for the PML-N, five of the party's ticket-holders from south Punjab on Saturday announced they would be contesting as independent candidates.

Four of the five candidates belong to the Rajanpur 'electables' group under former provincial deputy speaker Sher Ali Gorchani, who is a candidate for NA-193 and PP-293. Besides Sher Ali, his father Pervez Gorchani (PP-295), Ather Gorchani (PP-294) and Yousuf Khan Dareshak (PP-296) have returned their tickets to the party. Yousuf Khan's brother, Dr Hafeez Dareshak, has also returned his NA-194 PML-N ticket.

All lawmakers have now been allotted the 'jeep' symbol to contest the general elections.

Former PML-N MPA Atif Mazari and his nephew Khizar Mazari will continue to contest on the PML-N ticket from PP-297 and NA-195, respectively.

Sultan Mehmood Hanjra, PML-N ticket-holder from NA-181 (Muzaffargarh) also announced he would contest as an independent, requesting the 'jeep' symbol to be allotted to him. Hanjra is contesting against former Punjab governor Ghulam Mustufa Khar, who has Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf's (PTI) ticket.

Hanjra's nephews — Ahmed Yar (PP-279) and Qasim (PP-268) — will, however, continue to contest as PML-N candidates.

Earlier, PML-N dissident and former interior minister Chaudhry Nisar was also allotted the 'jeep' symbol on his own request in all four constituencies of Rawalpindi district — NA-59, NA-63, PP-10 and PP-12 —that he is contesting from.

Muslim hai to Muslim League main aa - PMLN's Anthem for Election 2018

Was surprised to see Hamza Shahbaz sharing this new anthem of PMLN for GE2018 on his page. So first PMLN was limited to Punjabis and now to Muslims?

From Punjabi only to Muslim only party? or they are doing it to cover the Khatam e Nabuwat blunder?

The same slogan (muslim hai to muslim league mein aa) was used during the 1946 elections by our Quaid's muslim league. I guess they are trying to draw a parallel with that. Not a fan of this though as this phrase has very different connotations in the current political climate in Pakistan.

Interestlngly, the song does explicitly state all Pakistanis are equal regardless or religion or province.

At partition it was a different story is there any Hindu Muslim referendum in 2018? Here these PMLN guys first raised jaag Punjabi jaag slogan for years and now they are doing this kabhi yeh liberal ban jaate hen kabhi maulvi whatever suits them to gain votes and our desi liberals defend them 24/7 on media and social media

A real Muslim would never vote for "Muslim league" nawaz. I really think they should remove the Muslim league and just call it Pakistan nawaz league because there is nothing Muslim about a corrupt political party who's goals are only to loot our beloved nation which has been gifted to us by Allah.

Song isnt too bad but PTI songs are miles better. Songs mean nothing though as a non noora would never vote noon league over a song and the same for other parties.

Security agencies forcing PML-N candidates to switch loyalties, claims Nawaz

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif, while talking to media persons in London on Saturday, levelled allegations against the security agencies and blamed them of threatening and harassing the PML-N candidates back home.

Nawaz said that the PML-N candidate in Multan, Iqbal Siraj, was manhandled and threatened of dire consequences allegedly by officials of a security agency. The former premier lamented that their party candidates were being humiliated.

The PML-N supremo said that raids were carried out at the godown of the PML-N leader and that he was forced to switch loyalties.

The statement came after a video went viral on the internet in which the said PML-N candidate could be seen levelling allegations on the security officials of raiding his godown and harassing his men.

However, soon after Nawaz Sharif spoke in favour of his party candidate and against the state institutions, Iqbal Siraj uploaded a video statement in which he backtracked from his earlier claims.

Siraj tried to explain that there had been some confusion and it was the officials of agriculture department who raided his godown earlier in the day, and not the security personnel.

Voting for a woman is haram: PML-N candidate

Former provincial minister and PML-N candidate Haroon Sultan Bukhari said that voting for a woman candidate is haram is Islam, SAMAA TV reported.

Apparently, Bukhari has made this statement to hurt his opponent Syeda Zohra Bukari’s chances of winning the election. Zohra Bukhari is the sister-in-law of the PML-N candidate. She is contesting on PTI’s ticket from the constituency.

Talking to SAMAA TV, Mufti Naeem, a prominent religious scholar, said Islam does not forbid voting for a woman candidate.

Reacting to Bukhari’s statement, a voter from the constituency said Bukhari is saying this only because his sister-in-law is contesting against him. While another voter questioned why Bukhari did not have a problem with it when his own sister was a District Nazim.

PMLN leader Haroon Sultan who is contesting from THREE NA seats in Muzaffargarh today said "Aurat ko vote dena HARAAM hai, shariat k mutabiq chalon ga", his opponent is his own female family member contesting on PTI ticket. Imagine if even a PTI Councillor had said this, these people would ask "Ye hai tabdeeli" "Ye hai naya Pakistan" etc etc

Pakistanis liberals find it okay to worship political parties or leaders if they give a hint of secularism or anti-establishment. All their crimes, corruption and murders are forgiven by these lifafas. Awful!

Almost every liberal active on twitter mocks Imran's wife calling her "Pinki peerni" 'Jadoogarni" etc etc which is disgusting and ridiculous because she is a woman and haven't really hurt anyone ever so why so much hatred by so called enlightened liberals?? I personally would never prefer my wife to dress like Bushra bibi does but how can i abuse her for her choice??

I don't call Bilawal "Billo" or anything like this but these hypocrites would cry rivers when some people use such words for Bilawal only because they agree with him politically.

Exactly. Sabir Nazar also mocked Bushra Bibi’s outfit. He advocates liberalism.

Nawaz, Maryam decide to return for accountability court hearing

SLAMABAD: An accountability court on Monday turned down an application, seeking a seven-day exemption for deposed premier Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam from personal appearance in the Avenfield properties reference.

The court however, allowed them a two-day relief, directing them to appear before the court on Wednesday. Sources said the two are expected to return from London by the next hearing.

Earlier, counsel for Maryam and her husband Captain (retd) Mohammed Safdar told an accountability court on Monday that the noted UK-based forensic expert Robert W Radley is not a truthful and impartial witness rather he is an ‘interested witness’ against the couple facing trial in line with apex court July 28, 2017 verdict.

While presenting his final arguments on the third consecutive day in connection with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference on Sharif’s London properties, the counsel, Amjad Pervaiz, said Radley did not make statement about his education, qualification and skills on oath before the court and he only said he has been working since 1976.

“Radley is not a skilled person in font identification matter and has no qualification in this regard. His expertise and grounds for opinion are not admissible. Neither is he a computer expert nor a font identification expert. The CV of Radley’s daughter, Ellen Radley, attached in the JIT [joint investigation report] reveals her expertise in ‘font identification’ but she is not the witness before the court,” he said.

During cross-examination, he said, Radley admitted that he himself downloaded the Calibri font in 2005 and in the light of that possibility, the availability of the font could not be ruled out.

“Prosecution’s case is that font was not commercially available but the availability of font is not disputed,” Pervaiz said. He questioned why a foreign expert was hired when such experts are available in Pakistan.

He reiterated that Radley was neither hired directly nor through the Foreign Office. He added that two witnesses – JIT head Wajid Zia and his cousin Akhtar Riaz Raja of Quist Solicitor – admitted before the court that his services could be hired directly or through Foreign Office.

“Radley is neither truthful nor impartial witness rather he is an interested witness,” Pervaiz said.

During the arguments, Pervaiz informed the court that Radley submitted two reports on July 4, 2017 and July 8, 2017 before the JIT. “Interestingly, there is nothing in his first report about the Calibri font,” he said.

“How can an expert’s eye miss the font identification in his first report,” Pervaiz said, adding that Radley’s second report talks about the font but does not mention how and why the font issue escaped his attention in the first report.

Besides, he said, the first report is based on photocopies. In his statement, Radley admitted that documents were presented in copy form and it did restrict examination from a number of angles.

In addition, he said, Radley has not given any opinion about overwriting in the year 2006 mentioned on the trust deed and left it up to the court to determine if 4 overwrites 6 or 6 overwrites 4.

While reading from the JIT report, Pervaiz said the JIT based its opinion on Radley’s report and concluded that the trust deeds were fabricated. “Uncorroborated evidence is weak evidence and the JIT based its opinion on a weak report,” he added.

None of the signatories have denied signatures on the trust deeds. Apart from Maryam, Safdar and Hussain, one signatory Waqar Ahmed was also not associated as his statement could have favoured the accused, according to the counsel.

None of the Supreme Court’s 13 questions mentioned trust deeds despite the fact that trust deeds were present before the court, he said, adding that the apex court has not even ordered including Maryam and Safdar in investigation.

“Wajid Zia was not competent of proving contents of the CMAs,” he said, adding no case diary was maintained and it is admitted by Zia that 30 to 40 experts were assisting the JIT. He said their names and qualifications were kept secret on the pretext of security but there is no such order of the SC to support the same.

“It is also a possibility that these 40 people prepared the JIT report and got signatures of the JIT members,” he said, adding that none of the 40 people were produced in the court as witnesses.

Pervaiz said Zia admitted he does not know who procured opinion of UK based expert Gilead Cooper, but Cooper has stated in his first line that he prepared his opinion on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s instructions and it was based on photocopied documents provided by Khan.

By the time Maryam was summoned, Zia admitted during cross-examination that no incriminatory material was available before the JIT. There is no justification of calling someone without any material against him or her, he said.

Thus must be from PML-N's wish list, not a real survey. In southern Punjab, PML-N is what PPP in central Punjab.

Your wishes can be accomplished only by Badmoashee of political wing of ISI whereby they detach more PML N ticket holders and force them to run independently.

Check out not one but three surveys of today.

Let People vote dictate Pakistan and not agencies anti-constitution engineering. Let people decide freely.

* Dharnas are right... Until not given by PTI
* Electables are halaal ... Until not taken by PTI
* Surveys are legit ... Until PTI is not winning

Pakistan's politics these days :)) :)))

After NAB, Supreme court, Pti dramas and allegations masterminded by ISI's sickness PML N has been slightly jolted. Still strong.

Respect People Vote. Bow down infront of Civilian Supremacy.

Enough games.
