Police said the woman had been married for nearly eight years. Based on a complaint, a case has been registered against her in-laws for allegedly burning her alive. Her husband, Vipin, has already been taken into custody.

Greater Noida police have launched a probe after a woman was allegedly set on fire by her in-laws. The incident came to light on 21 August when Kasna Police Station received a memo from a private hospital about a woman admitted with critical burn injuries. She was later referred to Delhi for treatment but could not survive.

Police said the woman had been married for nearly eight years. Based on a complaint, a case has been registered against her in-laws for allegedly burning her alive.

Her husband, Vipin, has been taken into police custody. A special police team has been formed to ensure the arrest of the remaining accused at the earliest.

"...Everyone is with us... What investigation is being done?... The in-laws used to demand vehicles and cash in dowry and assault my daughter... Her husband used to abuse my daughter as well as us (the victim's family)... We want a death sentence for the accused...", the mother of the victim who was burnt to death in Greater Noida told news agency ANI

In a separate news, a 47-year-old man in Delhi's Mehrauli allegedly killed his 30-year-old wife over suspicions of infidelity and buried her body with the help of his associates, officials said on Tuesday. Police have arrested the accused along with two of his associates and have launched a manhunt to trace a fourth suspect who remains at large. The woman’s body was recovered from a graveyard (kabristan) in Chandanholla area 11 days after it was buried, and has been sent for further investigation.
